Our egos think they are so smart. After all, they've been trying to protect us all our lives. Look what they've done for the economy and the environment. Our individual ego works hard at dodging the bullets and keeping our heads above water. What if there's a better way? Jonathan Parker thinks so and has written the book "Your Enlightened Soul". He believes (and I agree) that our souls are so much smarter but we have to learn to trust them because they don't worry and second guess themselves as much as our egos.

Directed by Marlo McKenzie and Jonathan Parker, Carol Doda: Topless at the Condor transports the viewer back to San Francisco in the 1960s. Here, we meet Carol Doda, the first dancer to go topless in the booming nightclub scene. In doing so, Doda became an overnight sensation and struck a blow for gender equality (both legally and culturally) that still resonates today. In this 1on1, we speak to McKenzie and Parker about combatting the male gaze & the politicization of fashion.
On the Saturday April 5, 2024 edition of the Richard Crouse Show we'll meet Marlo Mckenzie and Jonathan Parker, the filmmakers behind a cool new documentary called “Carol Doda Topless at the Condor.” The documentary, now playing in theatres, paints a picture of an accidental trailblazer whose provocative performances transformed not only San Francisco's North Bay neighborhood, but the national nightclub business. Then, we get to know Holly Gramazio. She is a writer, game designer and curator from Adelaide, currently based in London. Today we'll talk about her debut novel, The Husbands, which is poised to be a best seller. It's the story of Lauren, who returns home to her apartment one evening and finds her husband there. Problem is she is not married. While she is trying to figure out who this person is, he goes to the attic to change the light bulb. But what comes down is ANOTHER HUSBAND .

Jonathan Parker writes, directs and produces films which blend together the aspects of art he gravitates toward, including architecture, music, storytelling and intricate attention to detail. The Northern California native grew up in an artistic family, and studied English at Stanford. It was when he joined a New Wave band, and directed their first music video that he discovered film's nature of acting as a matrix for his artistic interests. After directing several short films, Jonathan wrote and directed his first feature film — Bartleby —an adaptation of Herman Melville's short story: Bartleby, the Scrivener: A Story of Wall Street. The film marked the first of several feature film collaborations with Catherine DiNapoli, with whom he co-wrote the screenplay. He included a satirical bent relevant to his time and place (just as Melville did in the 1850s) in his adaptation, which starred David Paymer, Glenne Headly, and Crispin Glover playing the eponymous character. He continued this philosophy as he embarked on his next film — The Californians — an adaptation of Henry James's The Bostonians. The film, which starred Noah Wyle, Ileana Douglas, Kate Mara and Keith Carradine, premiered on Showtime and surveyed the conflicted love-triangle between an idealistic real estate developer (Wyle); his environmentalist sister (Douglas); and the protest folk singer who comes into their lives (Mara). Jonathan's own experience as a real estate developer informed the film's scenic undertone, the characters' diverse perspectives and their motivations. This theme of incorporating personal experience into narrative film carried into his next project — (Untitled) — which starred Adam Goldberg, and followed an experimental musician's plight into the New York City art scene; and in The Architect, starring Parker Posey, Eric McCormack and James Frain, which explores the confluence of a couple who's vision of “the perfect home” is in diametric opposition and an eager, theoretically-motivated architect as he attempts to construct their dream home. The former was scored by David Lang, who won the 2008 Pulitzer Prize for Music. His latest work is the documentary film Carol Doda Topless at the Condor, which premiered at the Telluride Film Festival in 2023 and navigates the rise to fame of an influential San Franciscan topless dancer in 1964. Jonathan co-directed the film with Marlo McKenzie, while Lars Ulrich serves as a producer. The film analyzes Doda's impact on the sociocultural narrative of feminism, free speech, fashion and politics in the United States. In our conversation, we discussed Jonathan's journey into music and film; imbuing each of his projects with his own personal experiences; and the unique story of Carol Doda's plight in San Francisco.Opening Credits: 1st Contact - Cavemen I Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0); The New Mystikal Troubadours - A Cinematic Influence I Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 3.0 United States (CC BY-NC-SA 3.0 US). The truth is that most people who have sleep problems don't really need to see a doctor about it; they just need to understand the problem, understand the challenges they're having, and understand sleep, and then be given some ways to resolve it without using medications or medical devices or surgery,” says Jonathan Parker, who has worked as a dentist for over 36 years. For the past seven years, he's been collaborating with a sleep physician by the name of Mike Howell. With their combined experience of nearly four decades and a mutual interest in reaching large numbers of people who sleep poorly but don't know why or what to do about it, Dr. Howell and Dr. Parker started the Sleep Performance Institute, which helps enable people with simple, fun, and engaging methods of resolving their sleep issues. This is Stephen Schmidt from the Gazette Digital News Desk, and I'm here with your update for Wednesday, March 1.The first day of March will feel like spring is coming soon, but we'll see what happens. According to the National Weather Service the day will start mostly cloudy in the Cedar Rapids area, before becoming gradually sunnier. The high is predicted to be near 53 degrees with a low of around 30 degrees. It could be a bit breezy, with the wind increasing during the day, but wind gusts will not exceed 25 mph.Two women were found dead Tuesday morning after deputies responded to reports of a shooting at a home on Jordans Grove Road, west of Springville, according to the Linn County Sheriff's Office.Deputies were called at 9:28 a.m. to the house at 2561 Jordans Grove Rd., where they found two adult women dead from gunshot wounds. A witness was interviewed at the scene, and the Sheriffs Office said “there is no danger to the public.”The Sheriff's Office did not say what led to the shooting and did not announce that any arrests had been made in relation to it.The names of the deceased have not been released yet, pending notification of family. Both bodies have been transported to the State Medical Examiner's Office in Ankeny for autopsies.Fifty years after Iowa began collecting and analyzing data on residents diagnosed with cancer through its Iowa Cancer Registry, statistics reveal Iowa has the second-highest cancer incidence rate in the nation and is the only state with a rising rate of cancer.Kentucky has the highest cancer rate, lining up with its high smoking rate, while Iowa has a high rate of just about every major cancer type across the board. As the Iowa Cancer Registry celebrates its 50th anniversary, the 2023 report notes the spike in cases is tied, in part, to Iowa's aging population, “as advancing age is the leading risk factor for cancer.”The rise in cases also ties to Iowa's larger population — growing from 2.9 million in 1973 to 3.2 this year — and the improvement and corresponding increase in cancer detection among Iowans. The study also notes body mass index, inadequate physical activity, binge drinking and smoking as risk factors. The former Hawkeye football players who in 2020 sued the University of Iowa athletics operation for racial discrimination and harassment have dropped their claims against head coach Kirk Ferentz, offensive coordinator Brian Ferentz, Athletic Director Gary Barta and former strength coach Chris Doyle. Those dismissals leave the university and the state Board of Regents as the only defendants in the federal case, which last week also dropped claims against linebackers coach Seth Wallace. The case had been set for a jury trial in May 2023, but a U.S. District Court judge earlier this month postponed a pretrial conference and trial until further notice “in light of pending motions in this case.”The former players — Akrum Wadley, Jonathan Parker, Marcel Joly, Aaron Mends, Darian Cooper, Brandon Simon, Javon Foy and several others later removed from the lawsuit — sued the Hawkeye football program and its coaches in November 2020 following outcry from former players on social media and years of internal and external investigations into accusations of discrimination.
This is our final episode of 2022 and we have covered a lot of topics this year and heard from a few of you as well. However, this topic is an important one to understand as we all keep our therapy options open. Neuromodulation, which mostly means neurosurgery and includes Deep Brain Stimulation, may be a perfectly normal option either in the short term or longer time frame. Neuromodulation is the technology that delivers treatment directly to the affected nerves. So, this may include gene therapy or stem cells in the future. It's exciting to think about. Let's find out more from our expert neurosurgeon, Dr. Jonathan Parker who is the Epilepsy and Functional Neurosugeon at Mayo Clinic, about the what's available presently and what is on the horizon. Warning – this episode is a bit longer than normal but well worth listening to the end. https://www.mayoclinic.org/biographies/parker-jonathon-j-m-d-ph-d/bio-20537491 https://stanmed.stanford.edu/vibrating-glove-reorganize-neurons-parkinsons/

Governments’ desire to control investments by businesses from purportedly hostile nations has led to more investments being stalled or blocked in recent years. Recent moves to tighten FDI screening rules during the COVID-19 crisis accelerated this trend. While more and more countries are introducing or expanding their FDI screening regimes, well-established regimes (such as that operating in the US) are maturing and offering exemptions that may prove helpful to some private equity investors — while also creating new complexities. In this episode of Connected With Latham, London private equity partner Tom Evans discusses the obstacles and opportunities created by these changes in FDI regimes with London antitrust and competition partner Jonathan Parker, author of UK Merger Control and a leading authority on global FDI issues. Believe it or not, a lot of our success boils down to the relationships we have with others. It's dependant on the type of environment we set up around ourselves. In the book Outliers Malcolm Gladwell observes: "When we see the tallest tree in a forest, we know that it has come from a good seed. But we must also take into account that it has been planted in good soil, and that its leaves have been able to reach the sunlight unimpeded, that it was not shadowed by some larger tree. The tree’s good seed is its “innate” ability, but the combination of its circumstances have allowed it to achieve great heights." Malcom Gladwell - Outliers The same can be said for when you consider personal growth. The people we surround ourselves with will have a large impact on the person we become. Even further, the quality of the relationships we have with those around us will impact the level of effectiveness those interactions have. On October 6th, 2019 The Modern Man Panel and I sat down to discuss the importance of relationships and how they can positively or negatively affect us. We all know that one person that sucks the room dry once they arrive. Or the life of the party who is sure to get the energy going. Just like these two extremes can shape a room, the mild middle can slowly and affectedly alter your life. Cultivate the relationship you want to have with other people. Invite people to see the real issues you face. Finally, use vulnerability as a tool of strength, not a shield of weakness. Take a listen as Tyler Harris, Charles Russ, Tim Pecoraro, Jonathan Parker and I unpack what it means for men to improve the relationships in their lives. 1989's Shocker is a teenage boy pleaser, with its heavy metal soundtrack and bad ass baddie, Horace Pinker. A lot of Wes Craven trademarks in this film, and parallels to A Nightmare on Elm Street, with Peter Berg picking up the lead role as Jonathan Parker, a young man whose dreams might just be the key to finding the killer.Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/HorrorMovieSurvivalGuide)

In this episode, Jonathan Parker, creator of the Art of Conversation Leadership Training, stops by to have a conversation... on conversations.
Listen as we discuss vocal art and the power of our words in this great conversation with Jonathan Parker. He believes there is artwork in curiosity, asking great questions, listening and sharing. Show Notes: We are all artists + conversations are our artwork What would happen, how could we change the world, if we took our words more seriously? Curiosity is the canvas of all of our artwork We must define what we believe about ourselves and stay accountable to those beliefs. Our lives are filled with others telling us what we believe – we end up being “counterfeit artists.” We are not defined by our work. The work exists because of us. Self-reflection can be scary. One must grow in self-awareness: seek to understand why they do the things they do You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with – are these the right people? Prescribed authenticity versus true authenticity Everyone desires the opportunity to communicate + the respect to be heard (no matter your age, gender, race or heritage) Important for YPs to create margin (space + time) to discover what they truly want, what they believe, not what you were raised to want and believe. Social media is a powerful tool but gives a false impression of connection and conversation Need to shift from actively responding to actively listening Millennials grow up being told what they should be, then come to a point where they are lost – they’ve never stopped to think what they WANT to be, themselves No conversation is a throwaway – people remember you based on every individual interaction Don’t miss the opportunity to refine your art, to constantly improve Guest Bio: Jonathan Parker is a creative thought-leader and influencer who has a captivating story about why the Art of the Conversation became important to him. Originally from New England, Jonathan did not speak until almost five years old; and then became an adult who is known for engaging conversations and powerful public speaking. His own journey led him to research and value the incredible power of intentional conversations resulting in a compelling training around this topic that he takes to businesses and nonprofit organizations with great success. His own journey led him to research and value the incredible power of intentional conversations resulting in a compelling training around this topic that he takes to businesses and nonprofit organizations with great success. Show Notes: We are all artists and our conversations are our artwork Need to once again give people the permission to be curious An artist is first accountable to themselves, not the viewer We’ve become so used to others telling us what we believe, that we become counterfeit artists What you do comes from who you are, it doesn’t make you who you are We are so hard on ourselves that self-reflection can be scary In order to grow self-awareness, seek to understand why you do the things you do You need a to build an inner circle who can be brutally honest Prescribed authenticity versus true authenticity Jonathan believes there are two universal things all people want: The opportunity to communicate The respect to be heard Importance of creating margin and self-discovery Social media is a powerful tool, but gives a false impression of connection and conversation Need to learn how to truly communicate and actively listen instead of actively responding Busyness versus productivity “If you tell the truth, you don’t have remember anything” – Mark Twain Leaders must model the behaviors they desire: you can only multiply what you model No one can consistently act in a way that is inconsistent with how they view themselves Jonathan’s desire to create a space for fellowship and connection outside of church for believers Surprise and reward in stepping out and pursuing your passion Optimism that we will come together for more conversations and that relationships will get deeper because of differences, not in spite of them Connect with Jonathan: LinkedIn: jonathanrparker Facebook: @artoftheconversation Twitter: @createvocalart Email: artoftheconversation@gmail.com YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n94qN28vHKE&t=26s Instagram: @hymnsandhops Facebook: @hymnsandhops Website: gospelontap.com Resources: Fellowship Greenville Diversity & Inclusion Summit INTRO AND OUTRO MUSIC (Used by permission): Dreams Groove (© 2017 Tim...

Jonathan Parker and Catherine Di Napoli wrote and produced Bartleby, The Californians, and (Untitled). Bartleby is a quirky twist on a classic story by Herman Melville starring Crispin Glover. The Californians is loosely based on The Bostonians by Henry James and stars Illeana Douglas. (Untitled) is about a fashionable contemporary art gallerist in NYC, a brooding music composer, and the state of the contemporary art world. In (Untitled), Adam Goldberg plays the composer, whose work calls for paper crumpling, glass breaking and bucket kicking and Marley Shelton plays the chic Chelsea gallerist, whose latest show features an artist who employs taxidermy and household objects. The composer's brother, played by Eion Bailey, successfully sells his art to corporate clients and wants to be taken more seriously by his peers.
