Queridos hermanos y hermanas en Cristo Jesús,Les doy la bienvenida a "LA BUENA PALABRA", nuestro podcast diario en el que los Misioneros Redentoristas de la Provincia de Baltimore comparten la Buena Nueva de Jesús. Soy el Padre Manuel Rodríguez, redentorista, de la Basílica de Nuestra Señora del Perpetuo Socorro en Brooklyn, Nueva York. El evangelio de hoy, viernes 9 de enero de 2026, nos presenta a un leproso que se acerca a Jesús con una súplica humilde y profunda: "Señor, si quieres, puedes limpiarme.”Este hombre no pide explicaciones por su enfermedad, no reclama derechos. Reconoce su sufrimiento, pero también reconoce el poder y la misericordia de Jesús. El ciego no duda de que Jesús puede sanarlo; deja en sus manos el querer. Ahí está el corazón de la fe.La lepra, en tiempos de Jesús, no era solo una enfermedad física. Era una condena social, religiosa y espiritual. El leproso vivía aislado, excluido del culto, separado de la comunidad. En cierto modo, estaba “muerto en vida”. Es como una película que trataba de un condenado a la muerte en la silla eléctrica y lo llamaron, “hombre muerte caminando”, en inglés, “dead man walking”. Así eran los leprosos.  Por eso, su acercamiento a Jesús era un acto de valentía, pero, sobre todo, de esperanza.Y Jesús hace algo escandaloso: extiende la mano y lo toca. Jesús no se limita a hablar desde lejos. Toca lo impuro, se acerca a quien nadie se acercaba. Con ese gesto, Jesús no solo sana el cuerpo del leproso; le devuelve la dignidad, lo reintegra en la comunidad y le devuelve la vida.Luego Jesús dice: “Quiero, queda limpio.” No es una sanación fría o automática. Es la expresión clara de la voluntad de Dios: Dios quiere la vida, la sanación y la restauración del ser humano.Este evangelio nos invita a reconocer nuestras propias enfermedades, nuestras “lepra”: heridas interiores, pecados, resentimientos, miedos, situaciones que nos aíslan de los demás y de Dios. A veces, nos sentimos indignos, alejados, y no podemos acercarnos a nadie. Pero el leproso nos enseña el camino: ir a Jesús tal como estamos, con humildad y confianza.Jesús sigue tocando hoy, especialmente en los sacramentos: la Eucaristía y la Reconciliación. Y sigue diciendo: “Quiero”. Él quiere perdonar, quiere sanar y quiere restaurar. ¿Por qué? Porque nos ama y donde hay amor, hay perdón. Los dos van de la mano: el amor y el perdón. No puede haber perdón sin amor, ni amor sin perdón.Pidamos hoy la gracia de acercarnos a Jesús con fe sincera, de dejarnos tocar por su misericordia y de ser también instrumentos de su compasión para tantos “leprosos” de nuestro tiempo.Amén.

Todo un equipo de sacerdotes atiende espiritualmente la Basílica de la Virgen de los Desamparados. Uno de ellos es D. Álvaro Almenar Picallo —vicerrector de la Basílica— que, en comunión con el rector, D. Jaime Sancho, se encarga de coordinar las obras de evangelización y caridad que realizan desde la Basílica y al equipo de capellanes que se encarga de la acción litúrgica. Desde que se abre hasta que se cierra, cuidan de la atención del sacramento de la Penitencia, sostienen el culto eucarístico y, dentro de las obras de caridad, colaboran con diferentes entidades, como explica D. Álvaro.
