Professor Liz Morris is a glaciologist whose work in some of the earth's most inhospitable environments has broadened humanity's understanding of climate change and polar science. Her accolades include the prestigious Polar Medal and an OBE for services to Polar Science.Liz was born in London in 1946 and family legend has it that she fell in love with snow and ice the following year during what was known as the Big Freeze - one of the most severe and punishing winters in British history. She studied physics at Bristol University and applied for a role at the British Antarctic Survey in the early Seventies. At that time the institute did not have any female scientists working in the field and her application was rejected.Liz bided her time and eventually did get to work at the BAS, becoming head of the Ice and Climate Division in 1986. The following year she became the first British woman to undertake tent-based research in Antarctica, arriving just as the ozone hole discovery was breaking. Liz completed her last field trip in 2014. In 2020 the Antarctic Place-Names Committee named a glacier in her honour. Liz divides her time between the Cotswolds and Scotland. The goal wasn't only to upgrade a system—it was to rethink how a major retailer with many different banners should work across all of them. Jamie didn't write user stories; the BAs did that. What he did was communicate, in a super-clear way, the value expected at every step. He didn't attend every daily Scrum, but he was there whenever the team wanted him, allocating his time on demand. He cared about user experience and lived for the feedback loop—"this sprint I want to deliver this part and see how it goes." And he invited the proper stakeholders to each sprint review: a small, deliberately varied group chosen by what had been delivered and whose feedback the team actually needed. As Danil and Vasco agree, it sounds obvious—and that's exactly why it's worth celebrating. Obvious and common are not the same thing.   Self-reflection Question: Does your Product Owner communicate expected value at every step—or just hand over user stories and disappear? But you don't have a Product Owner." - Danil Chernyshev   The most common—and worst—anti-pattern Danil sees is the MIA, or "missing in action," Product Owner: a person with the title who doesn't actually own the product. Sometimes it's a BA or a tech lead wearing the label; sometimes it's someone who simply can't make decisions, or doesn't understand what they're responsible for because they're busy doing another job. The fix starts with clarity: first understand what the product even is, then put in place a Product Owner who makes decisions, owns the end-user experience, and maximizes value. Danil also flags a structural trap—one Product Owner per product, not one per team. He stretches the idea with vivid examples: an Agile coach leading a transformation is effectively the Product Owner of the process, with Scrum Masters as the developers; and Steve Jobs was the Product Owner of the iPhone while also being a customer for other Product Owners building pieces of it. Imaginez-vous en train de déambuler dans les rues de Rome durant l'Antiquité, dans une tranchée lors de la Première Guerre mondiale ou dans une forêt à l'époque des dinosaures. Voici le genre de voyage temporel que proposent ces vidéos artificielles diffusées sur les réseaux sociaux. Ce que vous venez d'entendre, c'est Chloé, une jeune femme entièrement générée par IA. On peut la voir assister à différents événements qui ont marqué l'histoire : la Révolution française, le naufrage du Titanic ou encore l'éruption du Vésuve. Aucune période historique n'est épargnée. Les vidéos de ce compte cumulent des dizaines de millions de vues sur les réseaux sociaux. Erreurs et anachronismes Visuellement, l'illusion est presque totale, à tel point que des internautes se demandent en commentaire s'il s'agit d'un clip synthétique ou d'une reconstitution historique réalisée avec de vrais acteurs. La qualité des images, le son et l'esthétique générale donnent l'impression de visionner un contenu pédagogique, pensé pour se documenter sur une période ou un événement de notre histoire. Sauf que, en réalité, c'est tout le contraire. En effet, ces vidéos comportent énormément d'erreurs factuelles et d'anachronismes : un drapeau bleu-blanc-rouge trois cent cinquante ans avant sa création, un Moyen-Âge sinistre, sombre et très sale, la France sacrée lors de la première Coupe du monde en Uruguay, etc. Déformer notre vision du passé Ces vidéos, souvent courtes, enchaînent les infox mais aussi les anachronismes. Basées non pas sur le travail d'historiens reconnus, mais sur un ensemble de sources abstraites, elles véhiculent aussi de nombreux stéréotypes. S'y ajoutent, parfois, des motivations politiques voire une forme de révisionnisme. Résultat, ces clips bouleversent notre vision du passé et participent aussi à invisibiliser les sources fiables et les documents historiques. C'est notamment le cas pour la Shoah avec des vidéos artificielles mettant en scène des victimes de l'Holocauste. À lire aussiLes IA génératives et le risque d'une réécriture de l'histoire de la Shoah La quête du buzz Derrière ces vidéos historiques artificielles, on retrouve une pluralité d'acteurs, allant des passionnés d'histoire peu soucieux de la réalité des faits aux internautes en quête de profit. Ces vidéos, souvent virales sur les réseaux sociaux, peuvent se transformer en une véritable source de revenus. La concurrence grandissante entre les créateurs de vidéos historiques artificielles aboutit à une surenchère, avec des contenus toujours plus sensationnalistes et donc toujours plus mensongers. Souvent présentées comme des contenus synthétiques, ces vidéos ne sont pas supprimées par les plateformes. Au contraire, les algorithmes les mettent en avant. Le phénomène n'est donc probablement pas près de s'arrêter.

Het OM heeft drie arrestaties gedaan naar aanleiding van een onderzoek naar terrorisme. In Alkmaar, Eindhoven en Rotterdam zijn drie jonge terreurverdachten van hun bed gelicht. Er wordt daarmee gelijk een link gelegd met de Pride in Amsterdam, wat aanstaande zaterdag plaatsvindt, en de aanslag in Berlijn van een paar dagen geleden. "Is er een connectie? Daar probeer je duiding aan te geven", stelt Bas van Sluis, onderzoeksjournalist bij Dagblad van het Noorden. Tot nu toe gaat het om speculatie, aangezien er nog niet genoeg bekend is over de zaken in Nederland. "Het OM geeft nu aan dat die twee dingen niet met elkaar te linken zijn, maar het is een opvallend moment." Volgens schrijver Haroon Ali is er een "behoefte" om het aan elkaar te linken, maar moeten we daar "waakzaam" voor zijn. "Er is al veel stigma en angst rondom de Islam. In de volksgeest gaat het al snel een eigen leven leiden, juist door dat stigma dat ze allemaal in hetzelfde complot zitten tegen het Westen." A subcontractor's developers—people who had always worked isolated from the business, with no plans and no communication—were brought back inside the "mother firm" as part of a digital transformation. Overnight they faced new teams, Scrum, SDLC, CI/CD, and full transparency. The developers and QAs trusted each other completely and trusted no one else: not the Scrum Master, not the Product Owner, not the BAs. Forced to estimate with story points, every story came back as a 3 or a 5, with no conversation. When Danil asked why, the answer was always "we'll discuss internally and tell you tomorrow"—he suspected a second, hidden daily Scrum without him. As he and Vasco unpack it, the real issue is transparency itself: a team used to hiding now feels exposed and doesn't know the consequences of being open. Vasco offers an experiment—build a "trio" of the Product Owner, the Scrum Master, and one friendly insider from the team to prepare refinements together. The Product Owner is always the outsider; pairing them with a trusted insider lets ideas and experiments spread faster. Vor elf Jahren lernte die Bernerin Priska Waijers ihren heutigen Mann Bas in einer spirituellen Facebook-Gruppe kennen. Wenige Monate später zog sie für die Liebe in die historische Hafenstadt Hoorn in den Niederlanden. Priska Waijers aus Mittelhäusern (BE) war Kindergärtnerin, Lehrerin, Schauspielerin und arbeitet heute als Life-Coach. In einer internationalen Facebook-Gruppe traf sie auf den Niederländer Bas. Die beiden verstanden sich auf Anhieb. Aus langen Gesprächen wurde eine Partnerschaft fürs Leben und veränderte ihr Leben. Schon sechs Monate später entschied sich Priska Waijers einen Neuanfang in den Niederlanden zu wagen: «Wir sind zwei Seelenverwandte.» Mit Bas kamen auch seine beiden Kinder in ihr Leben. Als Priska zu ihm zog, waren sie acht und zehn Jahre alt: «Die neue Rolle als Stiefmutter stellte mich vor ungewohnte Aufgaben und war für mich Neuland.» Trotzdem wuchs die Patchwork Familie mit viel Liebe zusammen. Priska und Bas arbeiten heute gemeinsam im Coaching-Bereich und beraten Menschen bei Veränderungsprozessen und Lebensfragen: «Aus eigener Erfahrung wissen wir, wie viel Mut es manchmal braucht, neue Wege einzuschlagen.» Zurück zu den Wurzeln Nach zehn Jahren in Holland wartet das nächste Abenteuer. Priska und Bas Waijers planen die Rückkehr in die Schweiz: «Wir wollen zu meinen Eltern in Mittelhäuser (BE) und können uns so gegenseitig unterstützen.» Das Haus mit viel Land rundherum soll künftig mehrere Generationen verbinden. Für Priska und Bas Waijers schliesst sich damit ein Kreis dort, wo ihre gemeinsame Zukunft ein neues Kapitel beginnt.

El 25 de Julio se celebra la fiesta de Santiago Apóstol, patrón de España. El apóstol Santiago, primer apóstol mártir, viajó desde Jerusalén hasta Cádiz (España). Sus predicaciones no fueron bien recibidas, por lo que se trasladó posteriormente a Zaragoza. Aquí se convirtieron muchos habitantes de la zona. Estuvo predicando también en Granada, ciudad en la que fue hecho prisionero junto con todos sus discípulos y convertidos. Santiago llamó en su ayuda a la Virgen María, que entonces vivía aún en Jerusalén, rogándole lo ayudase. La Virgen le concedió el favor de liberarlo y le pidió que se trasladara a Galicia a predicar la fe, y que luego volviese a Zaragoza. El apóstol cumplió su misión en Galicia y regresó a Zaragoza, donde corrió muchos peligros. Una noche, el apóstol estuvo rezando intensamente con algunos discípulos junto al río Ebro, cerca de los muros de la ciudad, pidiendo luz para saber si debía quedarse o huir. Él pensaba en María Santísima y le pedía que rogara con él para pedir consejo y ayuda a su divino Hijo Jesús, que nada podía entonces negarle. De pronto, se vio venir un resplandor del cielo sobre el apóstol y aparecieron sobre él los ángeles que entonaban un canto muy armonioso mientras traían una columna de luz, cuyo pie, en medio de un rayo luminoso, señalaba un lugar, a pocos pasos del apóstol, como indicando un sitio determinado. Sobre la columna, se le apareció la Virgen María. Santiago se levantó del lugar donde estaba rezando de rodillas, y recibió internamente el aviso de María de que debía erigir de inmediato una iglesia allí; que la intercesión de María debía crecer como una raíz y expandirse. María le indicó que, una vez terminada la iglesia, debía volver a Jerusalén. Santiago se levantó, llamó a los discípulos que lo acompañaban, que habían oído la música y visto el resplandor; les narró lo demás, y presenciaron luego todos cómo se iba desvaneciendo el resplandor de la aparición. En el lugar de la aparición, se levantó lo que hoy es la Basílica de Nuestra Señora del Pilar, un lugar de peregrinación famoso en el mundo entero que no fue destruido en la guerra civil española (1936-1939), puesto que las bombas que se lanzaron no explotaron, pudiéndose hoy en día verse expuestas en el interior de la Basílica. Santiago partió de España, para trasladarse a Jerusalén, como María le había ordenado. En este viaje visitó a María en Éfeso. María le predijo la proximidad de su muerte en Jerusalén, y lo consoló y lo confortó en gran manera. Santiago se despidió de María y de su hermano Juan, y se dirigió a Jerusalén, donde al poco tiempo fue hecho prisionero. Durante el recorrido, estuvo predicando y aún fue capaz de convertir a algunas personas. Cuando le ataron las manos, dijo: «Vosotros podéis atar mis manos, pero no mi bendición y mi lengua. Un tullido que se encontraba a la vera del camino, clamó al apóstol que le diera la mano y lo sanase. El apóstol le contestó: «Ven tú hacia mí y dame tu mano». El tullido fue hacia Santiago, tocó las manos atadas del apóstol e inmediatamente sanó. Josías, la persona que había entregado a Santiago, fue corriendo hacia él para implorar su perdón. Este hombre se convirtió a Cristo. Santiago le preguntó si deseaba ser bautizado. Él dijo que sí, por lo que el apóstol lo abrazó y le dijo: «Tú serás bautizado en tu propia sangre». Y así se cumplió más adelante, siendo Josías asesinado posteriormente por su fe. En otro tramo del recorrido, una mujer se acercó a Santiago con su hijo ciego para alcanzar de él la curación para su hijo, obteniéndola de inmediato. Una vez llegado al Monte Calvario, el mismo lugar donde años antes fue crucificado nuestro Señor, Santiago fue atado a unas piedras. Le vendaron los ojos y le decapitaron. El cuerpo de Santiago estuvo un tiempo en las cercanías de Jerusalén. Cuando se desencadenó una nueva persecución, lo llevaron a Galicia (España) algunos discípulos. En siglos posteriores y hasta el momento actual, numerosos fieles, principalmente de Europa, recorren parcialmente el «Camino de Santiago» que les conduce a la tumba del Santo, con el fin de pedir perdón por sus pecados. Watch the Devotion Based on Colossians 3:1,2 Greater Wealth   I read a recent news article that outlined the discussions between the Senate Armed Services Committee, House Appropriations Committee and Congress and how they are looking at a proposed tiered military pay raise. In my honest opinion I don’t think you are paid enough for what you do, especially knowing how food insecurity can be an issue especially among junior enlisted, barracks conditions, housing affordability, issues with BAH and BAS, costs with PCS moves and quality of life challenges. I know that Congress has been trying to address these issues. The current disagreement is whether pay increases should focus on those facing the greatest financial challenges—which are junior enlisted—or should be distributed evenly. I don’t know the answer.   What I do know is that a lot of you did not join our nation’s military to become wealthy. Some of you joined because you want to serve. Others joined for the ability to pay for continuing education later in life. Still others joined to learn skills in a vocation that would transition well into the civilian world. Even though you didn’t join the military to become wealthy, you can still fall into one of these two ditches when it comes to money and wealth. The one ditch is that you trust too much in your wealth, when you look to your wealth as your security. The other ditch is despair when it appears that you are not receiving your daily bread.   This is why Jesus gave us the Lord's Prayer, specifically the fourth petition. When we pray, “Give us today our daily bread,” we trust our Father to do just that: Father, give us what you promise! And we will rest content with what he so graciously provides us. Part of that petition includes prayers for your government, which provides your housing and food, and so we pray for wisdom for our leaders.   Out of all the temptations Jesus warns us about, he focuses the most on wealth and money, because he knows what a trap the love of money can be for his people.   Today, he calls us to repent, and then to look to Christ who never fell into either ditch. He rested perfectly contented in his Father's ability to provide. This is your true treasure, your true wealth: Christ Jesus. Earthly wealth comes and goes, but forgiveness—the cancellation of all your debt to God—the resurrection from the dead, life eternal, the strength to continue here on this earth until that day comes, that is priceless.   Listen to the Apostle Paul's encouragement in Colossians 3:1,2, “Since, then, you have been raised with Christ. . . set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.”    Keep Christ in your hearts as your most prized possession.   Prayer: Father, you provide all that we need for our bodies. Help us to trust you to do what you promise us. Move us to seek the greater treasures you pour out on us in your Word, our baptisms, your Holy Supper, so that we might obtain Christ, our greatest wealth. Provide for our service members so that they are never in want. Grant wisdom to our Congress and our president as they work on a budget that will adequately support all ranks of war fighters in our nation's military. We trust in you, through Jesus.
