PLUS: why 'electability' is the determining factor for my decision to vote for Jason Esteves & what happened to "Tulsi: 2020?"Atlanta Journal Constitution columnist Bill Torpy wrote of a recent anti-Muslim AI-generated video state Senator Greg Dolezal shared on social media - not just to pile on with the immense disgust for it (which came not just from Democrats), but also to pinpoint this being the moment former state Senator Nabila Parkes opted to pivot from running for insurance commissioner to joining Senator Josh McLaurin to seek the nomination for lieutenant governor in the Democratic primary instead. That exposed rifts within the party, too, but also left Democrats with one less Senate vote to fend off GOP bills the remainder of the general assembly session. Speaking of in-party division, the routine examination of ideology within the Democratic party has come about again, with yet another study on how likely primary voters are identifying themselves to be, ideologically. Now, bear in mind the poll's being done by the centrist thinktank, Third Way, but let's chew on their findings, nonetheless. Their determination is that the party's electorate is less progressive and more moderate, to which I point out that they also say they're less moderate than liberal, and that it wasn't that long ago folks were afraid to use the "L-word" to describe themselves out of fear of being demonized for it. That was a societal norm in the "Rush Limbaugh" era of discourse, and now we see a lot of that aimed at the word "progressive," too. Read into that what you will, but my hunch is there's a good bit of "progressive" in the "liberal" portion of the base, and it vastly outnumbers self-identified moderates and conservatives. It's that sort of divisiveness within the party - I'd argue made worse by outside forces and a lack of self-awareness within, too, that concerns me heading into a 2026 election cycle where Democrats - if they can unite - stand to gain much. I see way too much social media declarations exhorting an unwillingness to vote for any of the seven Georgia gubernatorial candidates, for example, when each of the seven in the race are vastly superior to Burt Jones or Rick Jackson (apologies to Carr and Raffensperger, neither standing a chance on the right). It's also why I made an example of myself and shared that I've landed at voting for Jason Esteves but won't need to "hold my nose" to vote for whomever the nominee will be after May 19th and the likely run-off. I explain why Esteves is the most electable and why I believe that should matter to primary voters but also reveal that it was RIck Jackson's (way too early) attack mailer aimed at Keisha Lance Bottoms that settled it for me.Speaking of Esteves, he revealed earlier this week that his mother is in the end-of-life chapter, having Alzheimer's and being cared for via home hospice. He also reminded followers the importance of having an advance health directive prepared. His "sandwich generation" status is relatable, and for me, brought up an important reminder that far too many of us in this country don't even have the safety net of not being a fiscal burden for our loved ones; that the economic toll our seniors place on our kids and grandkids is avoidable with more from government invested in "us" and less in wars of choice. Finally, Senator Jon Ossoff's grilling of Tulsi Gabbard was a thing of beauty, but it also triggered my recollection of who Tulsi Gabbard used to be - notably when she sought the Democratic party's nomination for President in 2020. Hear as I take a trip back into time (thanks to her unblemished Youtube page) when Tulsi loathed Donald Trump and our country's insatiable appetite for war.
The Iran War is not very popular with Americans – and the Trump Administration seems to think it knows why: the media is being too mean about the President's war of choice. On Saturday, FCC Chairman Brendan Carr reposted a Trump Truth Social screed against The New York Times and Wall Street Journal on Twitter — adding, “The law is clear. Broadcasters must operate in the public interest, and they will lose their licenses if they do not.” Carr has real power in his role as FCC Chairman – power he wants to use on behalf of President Trump. So to talk more about the FCC under Brendan Carr, we spoke with Matt Gertz. He's a senior fellow at the progressive media watchdog, Media Matters. And in headlines, the gloves came off during Oklahoma Republican Senator Markwayne Mullin's confirmation hearing, the government's top intelligence officials testify about worldwide threats before the Senate, and The New York Times publishes a multiyear investigation revealing labor activist Cesar Chavez's sexual abuse of women and girls.Show Notes: Check out Matt's work – www.mediamatters.org/author/matt-gertz Call Congress – 202-224-3121 Subscribe to the What A Day Newsletter – https://tinyurl.com/y4y2e9jy What A Day – YouTube – https://www.youtube.com/@whatadaypodcast Follow us on Instagram – https://www.instagram.com/crookedmedia/ For a transcript of this episode, please visit crooked.com/whataday
We've never had more access to information or more tools to make work faster and easier. But according to Nicholas Carr, author of The Shallows and Superbloom, speed and efficiency come with trade-offs we rarely stop to examine. In this episode, Michael and Megan talk with Carr about the paradox of modern productivity: the very systems that help us scale our work can fragment our attention and erode the depth that makes that work meaningful. If you've felt stretched thin or subtly less present than you want to be, this conversation will help you re-evaluate your technology—and the life you're building with it.Memorable Quotes“Many people have this sense that as everything speeds up, we seem to be able to do more. But actually our attention gets fragmented and we're not thinking as straight as we used to…The basic mistake at a personal level is the assumption that human attention, human thought, human communication always gets better as it gets more efficient.”“At a certain point, we simply overload our natural mental and psychological capacity to communicate, to process information, to make coherent thoughts. And at that point, a reversal takes place in faster communication: faster flow of information actually undermines understanding, undermines productivity, and in the worst case scenario, can start undermining relationships as well.”“As we use the tools, they also shape us. And I think that's particularly true of information technologies, communication technologies, media technologies.”“One of the big problems is that [social media platforms] take all friction out of socializing. You think, ‘Oh, we don't want friction.' But actually, it's… making an effort, having to do some work, maybe even having to pay a little money for a stamp to put on an envelope—all of these things deepen our connection to what we're doing. Getting rid of all the friction makes everything very fast, but it also makes everything superficial.”“We're encouraged to take the path of least resistance all the time. And if people can just step back and say, ‘When is efficiency good? When is getting something done as quickly as possible the best way to accomplish it? And when is the product going to be better if I actually put more effort into it, if I work at it?'”“The way we master a skill, any skill, is by actually practicing it. Getting in there, coming up against friction, coming up against barriers and overcoming them. That's the only way to raise your level of mastery or expertise… If you just go the path of least resistance at the very beginning, then you never get that deep learning and you never get the joy of becoming talented.”“One of the dangers of this screen-based life that we haven't talked about is that it steals from us certain levels of sensory engagement with the world… there's a lot of joy in connecting to the world with all our senses that, if we constantly have this little rectangle of glass in front of us, we're losing.”Key TakeawaysFaster Isn't Always Better. At a certain point, efficiency overloads our cognitive and emotional capacity. More communication can undermine understanding, productivity, and even relationships.Tools Shape Their Users. We create technology, but over time, it reshapes how we think, communicate, and experience the world. Texting, scrolling, and AI-assisted writing subtly influence depth and nuance.Friction Fuels Mastery. Deep learning requires struggle. When we automate the hard parts—like reading closely, writing clearly, thinking critically—we sacrifice growth for convenience.AI Is a Fork in the Road. Used wisely, AI can sharpen ideas and support thinking. Used carelessly, it can replace the very mental practices that build wisdom and skill.Replacement Beats Removal. Simply cutting back on technology often leaves a vacuum. Replacing screen time with embodied, social, or sensory-rich experiences creates lasting change.Local Community Is a Powerful Antidote. Book clubs, gardening groups, shared meals and other face-to-face interactions restore depth in ways screens cannot replicate.Resources“Live a Quiet Life and Work with Your Hands” (Substack Article)Superbloom by Nicholas CarrThe Shallows by Nicholas Carrnicholascarr.comWatch on YouTube at: https://youtu.be/9afbaUcmvYQThis episode was produced by Sarah Vorhees Wendel of VW Sound

This week's In Class With Carr comes from Montgomery Alabama, site of the Second Annual National Fred D. Gray Symposium. We return to Alabama to reflect on how human and civil rights struggles waged here force us to consider contemporary questions of transitioning US and global Social Structures and Africana Ways of Knowing. Anchored by reflections from the Symposium and along the Selma-to-Montgomery trail, the Black Hospital Movement, and figures from Fred Gray and JoAnn Bland to the students of HBHS Tuskegee High School and many others, we continue the work of Africana Studies as “Intellectual CSI.” U.S. Reconstruction's unfinished promises demand a renegotiation anchored in Africana Governance logics in order to resist exclusion and collectively re-center our common humanity in a post-Western world. Are you a member of Knarrative? We've never done an episode quite like this before. We sat down with writer and creative Allie Carr—twice. In October 2025, she was just beginning to emerge from a really difficult chapter. When we spoke again in February 2026, her spark for life was fully back, and the seeds she had planted were unfolding in real time. In the months between, Allie moved through a Saturn return, career pivots, financial uncertainty, and a deep shedding of who she used to be. What looked like falling apart was actually falling into place. This conversation is a reminder that manifestation often has a full arc: the breakdown, the becoming, and the moment it all clicks. As Donald Trump and Benjamin Netanyahu's war against the world enhances regional and global threats to the planet, this week's session of In Class With Carr centers community self-determination as a strategy for both resisting oppression and changing the deteriorating Social Structure of the Modern World System. Drawing on the momentum of memory rooted in living movement institutions, we pose a central question: How do we free our minds so that we can liberate our spaces? Answering that question requires challenging the illusion of inevitability under a dying empire. It means building independent institutions while also reimagining shared spaces in order to remake them, infusing them with our Governance protocols and Ways of Knowing, all in our collective interest. Central to this work is the power of storytelling to restore collective memory, cultivate disciplined political clarity and strengthen global solidarity—transforming hope into collective positive action. Are you a member of Knarrative? With NFL free agency about to begin and the legal tampering period right around the corner, Evan and Tiki break out one of their favorite traditions: Quarterback Bingo. The guys predict landing spots for the most intriguing quarterbacks expected to hit the market, including Aaron Rodgers, Derek Carr, Kyler Murray, Russell Wilson, Kirk Cousins, Tua Tagovailoa, Anthony Richardson, Malik Willis, and Zach Wilson. Tim Shipman sits down with thriller author James Wolff who worked as a British intelligence officer for over ten years. They unpack his latest spy novel Spies and Other Gods. Wolff shares how a single line in a UK parliamentary oversight report (the Intelligence and Security Committee) sparked the novel's core idea. An anonymous whistleblower sends British Intelligence into a frenzy, threatening to reveal secrets that could bring the establishment to its knees. Wolff also reveals why it took government censors 16 months to approve his book—and shares some of the truly absurd references they insisted he remove. He then turns the tables on Shipman, asking whether he uses spy-like tradecraft in his own work as a political journalist who relies on sources, assets and insiders to uncover stories. If you love le Carré-style moral tension, Slough House office politics, and spy fiction that feels real, Spies and Other Gods is for you. So what is Spies And Other Gods by James Wolff all about, Shane? In this cat-and-mouse spy thriller, an anonymous whistleblower sends British Intelligence into a frenzy, threatening to reveal secrets that could bring the establishment to its knees. The Head of British Intelligence is having a bad day. Only six months off retirement and Sir William Rentoul is wondering if he'll make it that far, what with the sudden descent of a brain fog dense enough to turn every day into a series of small humiliations. To make matters worse, when parliamentary researcher Aphra McQueen is brought in to investigate an internal complaint, she discovers something horrifying: the murder of nine Iranian dissidents. The elusive assassin, nicknamed CASPIAN, kills across borders, forcing intelligence services throughout Europe into an alliance. Their only lead? An unsuspecting dentist in the UK. Aphra McQueen seems to know more about the operation than she is letting on. What will she uncover? What is she really up to? And can she survive the unexpected events that will bounce her from London to Birmingham to Paris to Lausanne? In the exhilarating chase that follows, Spies and Other Gods offers a vibrant, fresh and darkly funny take on the spy thriller that lays bare the human cost of secrecy.

Stop us if you’ve heard this one before, but the NFL offseason is about to kick off and the New York Jets will be in search of a quarterback. Yes, for what feels like the 100th consecutive offseason, quarterback sits atop the Jets list of needs. https://api.spreaker.com/v2/episodes/70458127/download.mp3 This time around, with an extraordinarily thin quarterback market, the Jets will essentially have two choices at quarterback. They can go with a proven veteran who has shown their ceiling to be six or seven wins. Then there are the unproven QB’s who are young, who have flashed and may get better with increased opportunities. And of course, there are a few names that Jets reportedly have, or at least should, rule out entirely. Sam Howell: Howell has started just 17 career games, but has had some impressive outings. In seven of his 17 starts he has thrown for at least 290 yards while racking up 300 yards on the ground. This isn’t to say the Jets should look to add Howell and hand him a starting job, but he should certainly be an option to come in and compete. Will Levis: Chosen with the first pick in round 2 (33rd overall) in the 2023 draft, Levis is now nailed to the bench in Tennessee with Cam Ward holding the starting job. There are plenty of questions surrounding Levis who has gone 5-16 as a starter thus far. But with an actual QB guru in the building in Frank Reich, Levis may be worth bringing in for a look. Tyson Bagent: Bagent stood out at the 2023 senior bowl and got on the field as a rookie for the Bears, going 2-2 and showing excellent poise. He’s unlikely to become a high level starter, but getting a look at him would bring more value than getting a look at many of the longer tenured veterans being mentioned. Take for example…. Carson Wentz: A former first-round pick and MVP candidate, Wentz’s best days are a distant memory. His familiarity with Frank Reich’s offense have led to some mentioning his name, but at this point in his career he’s a beaten up veteran who has a difficult time staying on the field and will likely win you no more than five or six games. Jacoby Brissett: Another veteran who has already played for Frank Reich, Brissett owns a career record of 20-45 and has never won more than seven games in a season and that was back in 2019. Another veteran who likely tops out at six wins and leaves you no better off next offseason than you are today. Marcus Mariota: Mariota won a career high nine games but that was the better part of a decade ago. He was last a starting QB back in 2022 when he went 5-8 which is about where his ceiling is. If the Jets can win five games with a dead end veteran, why not look in another direction. Now there is another category of QB but these are true long shots for the Jets. There are a pair of veterans who will offer great bang for buck or production that could make you competitive, but there are issues. Derek Carr: There have been whispers that the Jets like Carr and believe he can be had if they want him badly enough. Problem is, as of right now he’s still retired. Should he opt to come to the Jets in the coming weeks though, that would give the Jets a proven veteran who has been a pro bowler and has some years left in him. Kyler Murray: There are a million reasons not to sigh Murray, but there’s one very good one why they should. Malik Willis may be the best free agent on the market, but Rich Cimini of ESPN New York says Gang Green won’t look to make a big splash. If Cimini is right, the next best QB on the market will be Murray, whose contract calls for him to make the veteran minimum in 2026. You won’t find better value anywhere. The post With Free Agency Coming, Jets Have two Ways to Approach QB appeared first on JetNation.com - New York Jets Blog & Forum. As we close the final day of Blackest History Month, the governments of the United States and Israel have declared war on Iran, an action that casts both countries as pariah states and threatens the lives and security of everyone in those three countries and beyond. At the same time, doomed efforts by predatory monied interests to shape and control mass media narratives and images are intensifying. Filmmaker Haile Gerima has described narratives as scalpels that cut into the center of our minds and consciousness. The struggle of liberation-oriented Governance formations against an increasingly fragile contemporary global Social Structure, then, is first and foremost, a clash between forces determined to reduce humanity to servitude and people who refuse to submit. What happens when increasingly desperate would-be masters can no longer control those they seek to dominate? Are you a member of Knarrative? What if your spirit team has been communicating with you your whole life, and in the exact way you are most able to receive? In this episode of Soul Elevation, I sit down with Lorenda Carr, an evidential medium, psychic, trance channel, and practitioner of past life regression and QHHT. We explore how psychic and mediumistic abilities develop over time, how spirit teams are constructed, and why ethics matter so much in psychic mediumship. Lorenda shares the wild series of "signs" that pushed her to finally embrace this path, including a moment involving John Edward that changed everything. We also talk about energetic hygiene, boundaries, and how spirit will meet you exactly where you are, even if you think you are not psychic at all. Plus, you will hear about Lorenda's work with Camp Chesterfield and what platform mediumship is really like. If you have ever wondered how to trust what you receive, how to discern responsibly, or how to deepen your connection with your guides, this conversation will support you. Irish Sports Daily's Jamie Uyeyama joins to discuss some questions that could be at least partially answered by the end of spring practice. Included: How does C.J. Carr perform when there's no competition and also no Jeremiyah Love? Who steps in at the skill position slots? What's the only position with potential depth concerns? Do any freshmen force their way onto the field? Then we close (46:45) by gathering in the Baratheon pavilion for a discussion about the delightful A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. On February 17, 2026, Jesse Louis Jackson made transition at 84, marking a watershed chapter in four generations of African struggle for US and global power. Emerging from Africana Governance formations, Jackson leveraged two currencies—voter power and consumer power—to push US domestic and global Social Structures to have to negotiate with the organized oppressed. From Operations Breadbasket and PUSH to Rainbow Coalition Presidential campaigns of 1984 and 1988, Jackson utilized and tested every tactic available to oppressed people confronting entrenched Social Structures. In Class With Carr 311 interprets the meaning of Jackson's life and work as a case study in the possibilities and limits of Black self-determination, asking what it reveals about today's fragile and reshaping political order and what understanding him, it and ourselves demands of us now.Are you a member of Knarrative?
