Bible teaching, chapter-by-chapter, verse-by-verse, through the whole Bible. Recorded live from Calvary Chapel of Anne Arundel County Maryland

Summary: We see in our passage today the word “dispensation, (Greek: oikonomia ), it is where we get our word “Economy” . A lot of people struggle with this word, and theologians come up with books upon books to explain it, but it simply means a “set order of how things work.” God saying I'm setting the order of how things are going to work and nothing can change it. Satan, evilness, terrorism, prosperity, will not change my plan, or how I run my plan, and it will all happen in the “fullness of time, on my timetable (remember 1:10). Paul will show in these verses that the fullness of time has come, and the church is now in the period “of the grace of God.”

Summary: You are the dwelling place of God! The Holy God, dwells in you, and if you are wondering what all the means listen on as we study what that means. As we have said in a prior study, there are only 3 things that matter in real estate, and every real estate agent confirms….. location, location, location. When looking for a place to live, dwell, the number one thing is always location…… this is where I want to live. Whether it is one reason or a thousand reasons, we come to the place of….. this is where I want to live. God, the creator of the universe, He who sits upon the throne, wants to live with you and in you.How does just that thought make you feel today? How long has it been since you “remembered that”? When we find the perfect house, we say I want this house, I am willing to buy this house, because I really want this house. God wants you. Maybe you don't feel wanted, maybe you feel second in everyone's life, maybe it isn't even a felling but a demonstrated fact, that you are second, or a demonstrated fact that you are unwanted. BUT GOD….. says to you today in this passage, I want you!

Summary: Surely, we have reached the summit of the New Testament here in this passage. Our passage today summarizes the greatest gift (everlasting salvation), from the greatest lover (God's own heart), and God's greatest thoughts of you (His masterpiece). When, if we, can fully comprehend what is declared to us in these verses, we will live in power, we will live in peace, we will be secure in our salvation, and secure in our identity (not just in the life to come, but the life here now), we will walk a walk that nothing in this world can move or diminish. Oh, what a passage that is before us today.

Summary: From dead in sin to seated with Christ in heavenly places—what a transformation! This Sunday we explored Ephesians 2:1-7 and discovered the breathtaking reality of our past, present, and future in Christ. We were once dead in trespasses and sins, walking according to the world's standards. But God—those two powerful words change everything! Rich in mercy and great in love, He made us alive together with Christ. Not only alive, but raised up and seated with Him in heavenly places. You are God's trophy of grace, His inheritance, loved before the foundation of the world. Here's the beautiful truth: His kindness leads us to repentance, not our dwelling on failures. God is patting the seat next to Him, saying "Come sit here with Me." For all eternity, He wants to show you the exceeding riches of His grace. That's not just your future—that's your reality today.Change the way you think. Live like you're called. You've been made alive!

Summary: The Book of Ephesians is about all the spiritual riches available to the believer. Ephesians 1:3 the theme of the whole book says, Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ: For the first fourteen verses the Apostle Paul talks about how we are "born spiritually rich" when we trusted Christ. But he says that being born spiritually rich is not enough, for we must grow in our understanding of our riches if we are ever going to use them to the glory of God. God desired that the Christians in Ephesus understood what great spiritual wealth they had in Christ. After talking about Knowledge is Power through the first 14 verses, Paul goes and starts to pray for them that they would seize this Knowledge and have the Power to use in their daily walk. Two thousand years later, God desires the same for us today.

Summary: God Seals Us when we believe. Why does this passage of scripture matter to you today? Well quite simply, if a person continually struggles with what is their purpose and worth in life, and if they continually struggle with their eternal security, they will never be able to move on and live in the victorious Christian life that God purposes for them, and promises for them to have for the taking. And notice, I say for the taking, because although God purposes it and secures it for the Believer, the believer still must take it by their own freewill choosing.

Summary: Life has a way of leaving us in pieces. Relationships fracture. Dreams shatter. Sin separates. From the moment humanity fell in the Garden of Eden, the story of our existence has been one of things falling apart—man separated from God, brother against brother, nation against nation. Yet woven throughout Scripture is a counter-narrative, a divine promise that what has been broken will be made whole again. This is the heart of redemption.

Summary: A special study where we open up the newspaper and the Bible, and see prophecy coming together before our very eyes. Prophecy isn't just about future predictions; it's about knowing God better, living intentionally now, and being prepared for Christ's return, making it a practical and essential part of Christian faith.

Summary: This week's sermon from Ephesians 1:3-4 explores the incredible truth that we have been chosen by God and blessed with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ. We discover that our identity as saints is not something we earn through our efforts, but rather a position we occupy because of God's perfect love. The sermon challenges us to move from earthly thinking to heavenly thinking - to stop living like spiritual paupers when we have unlimited riches available to us in Christ. Just as God moved the fence to bring us into His presence, He has secured our position once and for all, declaring us holy and without blame before Him in love.

Summary: We can rest in God's Love…. Because God is resting in His Love for us! Our passage today brings that straight from the heart of God.

Summary: The book of Genesis opens with the magnificent words, "Let there be light." It closes with a coffin in Egypt. From the glory of God's creation to the darkness of death—this is the trajectory of humanity's story after the fall. Yet within this descent lies an incredible thread of hope, woven through generations of imperfect people who clung to an unshakeable promise from God!

Summary: There's something profoundly moving about a father's final words to his children. When Jacob gathered his twelve sons around his deathbed in Egypt, he didn't simply say goodbye. He spoke prophetically over each one, revealing their character, their destiny, and the future of the nation that would spring from their lineage. This moment, recorded in Genesis 49, is far more than an ancient family gathering. It's a window into God's sovereign plan—a plan that stretches from paradise lost to paradise restored, from the garden of Eden to the coming Messiah.

Summary: There's something profoundly beautiful about visiting someone who is sick or struggling. You arrive thinking you're the one bringing comfort, only to discover that you're the one who leaves transformed. This divine paradox appears throughout Scripture, and nowhere is it more evident than in the story of Jacob's final days in Genesis 48.

Summary: Jacob's story is one of transformation. The deceiver became Israel, the prince with God. The schemer became the blesser. His final years in Egypt were marked by faith, maturity, and anticipation of God's promises. Your best chapter is yet to come. God is still working, still refining, still conforming you to the image of His Son. Be confident of this: He who began a good work in you will complete it (Philippians 1:6). So go into the world as Jacob went into Pharaoh's court. Speak blessing over the powerful and the powerless alike. Place God's name upon everyone you meet. And watch as He transforms both them and you in the process. You are a stranger and pilgrim here—but you carry the authority of heaven. Use it to bless.

Summary: Life often brings us to crossroads where the path forward seems uncertain. We stand at the border between what we know and what lies ahead, torn between the pull of our hearts and the wisdom of waiting. In these moments, we need more than good intentions—we need divine direction. Jacob (Israel) will be given Divine direction in our passage today as he takes the whole family down to Egypt; and along the way the Lord will give us insights on how to seek His Divine direction when we are making our life decisions.

Summary: In our passage Joseph reveals himself to his brothers who had sold him into slavery some 22-year prior. They are shocked, and of course fearful for their sin has found them out, and they stand before Joseph who has the power to punish them to death if he so choses. But Joseph will say to them, don't be grieved. Don't be troubled. In essence he is saying, I forgive you, I love you, I don't hold anything against you; so be free in these words that I give you so that we can have a relationship, be a family again, and be one. In this study we will see what a man/woman, who walks with God, does. This is who a man/woman... who sees themselves in light of who God is….. and what and how they respond…… they respond like God.

Summary: Our passage culminates with the brothers of Joseph have come to the end of their end, and all they have left is to cry out for mercy. Mercy…. ever want it? When you do want it, it will cry from the depth of your heart to receive it, nothing else in life will seem to matter at that moment. Mercy….. ever receive it? When you do receive it, it will be as a kiss of God, for mercy is the heart of God. Mercy…. ever give it? When you do, it will be the very heart of God to the brokenhearted.

Summary: The Lord continues to break and remake these 10 brothers into the men of God they need to be, as they will be the foundation of the great Nation Israel. God is forging them, and fashioning them, so He may do something great with them and in them. God does the same today, for every one of us, and it is a high calling, but worth it all…… so that God may be glorified! Join us as we study a passage that is not just about the sons of Jacob, but each and every one of us.

Summary: For the people, it has been 7 years of plenty, hey let the good times roll, never knowing a famine was coming. How long into the famine before they realized this is serious. And little did they know, but it was 20 years prior that God had been preparing for this famine, and raising up Joseph to lead them through it. I wonder what God is doing today in my life, in your life, that is preparing for something 20 years down the road. What a chapter of comfort and confidence in our God whose hand is always upon us, working all things together for good!

Summary: After 13 years of slavery and imprisonment, Joseph will not only be free, but be made second in command of all or Egypt. Joseph was seventeen years old when he was lifted from the pit and taken to Egypt. Now he's thirty and he's reached the palace. In between were thirteen long, troubling years. There were many paths God could've used to get Joseph from the pit to the palace, but destination was not the point. By doing it His way, God not only made a way, He made a man. Join us as we are encouraged and strengthened as God does the same in our lives.

Summary: Joseph is in imprisoned, even though he did what was right. Choosing to do what is right doesn't mean that everything will initially turn out wonderful. We choose a do what is right because God is holy, and these are the standard that He sets for the people that He sets apart. We have been bought with a price; living with that mindset, sets us apart from the world, and sets us above the world into the eternal perspective. Choose to do what is right and ultimately everything turns out for His glory, because you've honored the Lord and any time the Lord is honored in and through you, you know He is pleased.

Summary: A truly remarkable chapter in the Bible, as we see this young man Joseph give glory to God through his life by being a living sacrifice and witness as he withstands temptations and trials. Join us as we glean strength and lessons for our trials and temptations in life.

Summary: Another strange, but true story that God reveals in the Scriptures for us the story of Judah and Tamar. As strange and as sordid as this story is, God reveals a tapestry of love and forgiveness that weaves all the way to the birth of Jesus; and the story reveals that try as Satan will to destroy the plans of God, his efforts are futile, and that would mean his efforts against you as well. You don't want to miss this study.

Summary: The story of Joseph in the book of Genesis is a powerful narrative that encompasses nearly 25% of this foundational text. While only one chapter is devoted to the creation of the universe, God chose to dedicate a significant portion to Joseph's life. This emphasis begs the question: Why? The answer lies in the profound truth that God desires us to know the Creator more than the creation itself. Through Joseph's life, we see a vivid picture of Jesus Christ, offering us deep spiritual insights and a call to unwavering faith.

Summary: God puts these words before us, this genealogy of Esau, so we can see that the works of the flesh all end in nothing. In the end the flesh ends up with nothing, the flesh fades and withers. Esau's lineage had the kingdom, the power, and the glory. The three things man in his flesh want, yet in the end, ends with nothing.

Summary: We will be looking at Jacob stopping short of God's will of where he should be, and he will reap the consequences and his whole family as well in one of the most disastrous stories of the Bible with the violation of his daughter, Dinah. But Jacob will use that horrible circumstance to get himself up and get going to where God had called him to go and be, and get things right between him, his family, and the Lord. A great passage for all of us, especially when we think God's grace has an expiration date on it.

Summary: In Genesis 32, Jacob faces a moment of deep fear and crisis as he prepares to meet his brother Esau, whom he had wronged years earlier. Overwhelmed by anxiety, Jacob prays humbly, acknowledging his unworthiness and pleading for God's deliverance. That night, alone and desperate, Jacob wrestles with a mysterious man—God Himself in human form. In this struggle, Jacob is physically broken, his hip put out of joint, yet he clings in faith, refusing to let go without a blessing. God renames him Israel (which means “Governed by God”), marking the transformation of Jacob from a self-reliant schemer to a man dependent on God's grace.

Summary: It is time, as God has appointed the time for Jacob to move on from his Uncle Laban, and back to the Promised Land, and start God's work on what will be the Land, and the Messiah to come and provide Himself the sacrifice for sin. Even with a great calling upon his life it appears that Jacob is getting comfortable in his good life, so God has to stir things up to get him moving in the right direction. Maybe that is where you are at, and God is stirring your life through some hard or uncomfortable circumstances; Good word for all of us in this passage. Join Us!

Subject: The passage begins by saying that “So Jacob went on his journey”. Jacob's journey, is so much like our journey in this world with high and lows, hopes and dreams, joys and sorrows. Jacob is going to find some of all these in this chapter; but most importantly, God is going to show him himself, so God can do something about the things that need changed in him. God will do the same for all of us. Join Us.

Summary: In our passage today, we read of one of e greatest accounts of grace and Jacob is on the run from his brother Esau for deceiving him and his father Issac regarding the family blessing; yet God shows up and pours grace out upon him. We don't understand grace and that's the point, for if we could, it wouldn't be grace. We can only stand on the promise of grace, and receive it, though never fully understanding it. Maybe you need some grace, or need to give some grace, join us God pours out His grace.

Summary: In our study we will see Jacob and Rebekah deceive Isaac to pass the spiritual blessing unto Jacon rather than Esau. Each of us can be one of these four, so the question before the study, which one are you, and what can you do about it? Are You:· Isaac – Who spiritually went from on-fire, to slow-fade, to a vapor?· Esau – Who chose the things of the world and flesh, over the things of the Spirit?· Jacob – Who recognized the things of the Spirit, but tried to obtain through the flesh?· Rebekah – Who went from person of prayer, to I will do it my way?

Summary: Famines in our spiritual lives come from time to time. The question for us is, “where do You go, what do You do when they come?” In our passage today we will see Isaac enter a famine, and God will give us many great spiritual lessons from his life to apply to our lives in our time of need. Join Us!

Summary: In our passage today, we say goodbye to a dear friend (Abraham). We get to know Isaac his son in a deeper way, and are introduced to Jacob, who will become the Father of Israel. We will also come to know Issac's brother Ishmael in a deeper way and introduced to Jacob's brother Esau. All these men will live life, but not all will live “full satisfying” lives. Join us as we study….. “how to live and have a full and satisfying life”.

Summary: This chapter is the longest chapter in the Book of Genesis, and that is not surprising considering the whole chapter is a picture of God's Bride…… you! Join us as the Lord says to us…… to take a good, long, lingering look at how I feel about you.

Summary: In our chapter today, we will read of the death of Sarah (Abraham's wife), whose name means “princess”. As Abraham weeps, we will see the heart of God who says He catches and keeps all our tears in a bottle. And through all the tears, the passage gives a beautiful picture, and promise, of the resurrection.

Summary: 2,000 years ago, the greatest three words in the history of mankind were spoken. What do theymean to you, and how do you apply them to your life today. Join us for a special message from the heart ofGod.

Summary: My hope is always hopeful because my God always has an ….”after these things” for me. Always a tomorrow, always a day after, whether after a failure or fault, a mountain high or a valley low, there is always an… “after these things” because there is a cross, a resurrection, by the God who provided all these things, including Himself upon the cross for me. And He is always on the move in my life and your life!

Summary: It is 25-years later, but here is the promise given to Abraham and Sarah fulfilled with the birth of Issac. The child of promise is Issac, and his name means laughter. Surely people laughed at the impossibility of having a child at such an age; but now we will read they laugh with them, in the amazement of what only God can do. He is the same God today…. And people may be laughing at what you say God is going to do in your life, but someday they will be laughing with you in amazement saying ….. He did it!

Summary: In our study Abraham will repeat the same failing of faith that he did almost 25 years prior. We can poke at the Father-of-Faith and ask how could you? But the Lord reminds us that these Old Testament stories were written as examples for us. So here we find several examples “for us”, and in each of them we will explore if we too are repeating the same failings time and time again….. and maybe not even realize that we are.

Summary: Although the focus of the chapter is on Sodom and Gomorrah, the chapter in whole tells a broader story that goes beyond just what the chapter is known for. It speaks of the warning to believers that even the righteous can compromise. But God knew where to find Lot, and us, and He comes, and He speaks to us (any and all who are willing to hear). Join us as we study this story that is both historical, and personally applicable.

Summary: In our chapter today, the Lord will “dine” with Abraham because He's a God of intimacy and fellowship with His people. God will “delight” Sarah as He tells her of the promise of the child she will have even when she's having a hard time believing. And thirdly, the Lord “declares” to Abraham what's on His heart because God tells those that care. The question for all of us today, “what can God tell us”?

Summary: When Abram was 99 God appeared to him telling him I am “God Almighty” (Heb. El Shaddai). Shaddai comes from an old word meaning “mountain” and refers to His mighty power that is high and unshakable. And, if Abram wanted to know God's power, he had to walk, that is live, close to the Lord. So too the passage before us speaks the same unto us. How can we do it? Join us for Genesis 17 to for the “how to”.

Summary: Time has a way of erasing the promises of God that He has given us but have yet to come to pass. And Abraham and Sarah have forgotten His promise, so they try to put human logic into the middle of faith, and it just never works out, other than a mess in the flesh. But the story in this chapter comes one of the greatest stories in the Bible as we see that God sees Hagar who is mistreated and cast off and in a place of hurting, and the Lord comes to her an Egyptian bondwoman and reveals Himself in a special way; and so the Lord seeks all the outcast and hurting today for He is the same yesterday today and forever.

Summary: Abram is fearful, a great high moment comes with a new reality that there are things outside his control. In the midst of his fear a beautiful phase appears for the first time in the Bible, “The word of the LORD came to Abram”, and it becomes the foundation not just for his fear, but his faith as well. Whether it is fear or faith, the Lord has a “Word” for you in all your questions. Join us for a “Word” from the very heart of God.

Summary: What a golden nugget of a chapter as we will read that after Abram rescues his nephew Lot who was taking captive; that on his return Abram will meet the King of Salem (whose name is Melchizedek), who very well could have been the appearance of Jesus in the Old Testament. Absolutely an amazing passage as it will speak volumes of not just tying the Old Testament to the New Testament (as we read of Melchizedek again in the Book of Hebrews), but an amazing account about how God meets with each and every one of us.

Summary: Even after Abram's failing of faith down in Egypt, God meets him at the altar he had built in the Promised Land before the failing. God is so gracious, kind, and longsuffering with us; and is always ready to meet us to fellowship and commune together with Him in love. Maybe you need to come back to the altar of His promises today for a fresh reunion and restoration. Join us as we see the heart of God to us even after a failing of faith.

Summary: The title of this study is “nothing”, and when asked what we studied, we will say “nothing”. And the “nothing” that we will study and apply to our lives personally is that Abraham did “nothing” to be chosen and called by God. There was “nothing” in or about Abraham that made him chosen; it was all God's grace to call him. Therefore, as we study the life of Abraham in the chapters to come, and we see time of great faith, along with times of great failings, we can remember that “nothing” can keep us from the love of God, because “nothing” was the reason God called us to Himself except His great love.

Summary: In our passage at the Tower of Babel, we see a whole world with one language and one speech, and they totally misspend it on self and self-serving purposes, all of which crumbles and goes off into confusion. For us as believers in Christ, we have a chapter filled with great application to abundant life, with clear focus and direction. Join us!

Summary: Although often skipped over because this chapter seems like a long list of names, this chapter is foundational and critical to understanding prophecies in the Bible, and the root of all false religions, while at the same time it gives every individual follower of Christ the challenge of how they want to be known as disciples of Christ.

Summary: God not only makes a covenant with mankind with words (never to flood the earth again with water), but He gives the rainbow to be the sign to remind us of His covenant. He does the same with the “New Covenant”, that our sins will be forgiven and washed away never to be remembered by Him, and He gives us a sign to remember His promised covenant, and that is the fellowship of Communion with Him and each other. Join us as we walk through this great passage, verse-by-verse.
