To Sardis, He warns that they have a reputation for being alive but are actually spiritually dead. He calls them to wake up, strengthen what remains, and repent before He comes like a thief. To Philadelphia, He offers no rebuke but encourages them to hold fast, promising protection and honor for their faithfulness. He places before them an open door of opportunity for service that no one can shut. To Laodicea, He issues a stern warning, rebuking their lukewarm faith. He urges them to become zealous and repent. Though He stands at the door and knocks, He will only come in if invited. Each message ends with a promise to those who overcome, listening to the Spirit's wisdom. We are called to examine the true state of our hearts. It is possible to appear strong in faith while drifting far from God. Jesus sees beyond our reputation and invites us to wake up, repent, and return to what is lasting. We must not settle for a lukewarm life. He desires that we walk in full devotion, not half-hearted belief. When we remain faithful, even with little strength, He opens doors that no one can close. We do not earn these promises, but we are invited to respond with faith and endurance. Jesus stands at the door, ready to come in. We must choose to listen, respond with humility, and walk in renewed fellowship with Him each day. All-powerful God, You see us as we truly are. You know when we are strong, and You know when we have grown cold or distant. Thank You for sharing the power of Jesus and calling us to serve Him more faithfully. Wake us up when we become complacent. Give us courage to repent and strength to follow through. Help us not to live for appearances but to walk in genuine faith and devotion. When we feel weak, remind us that You are with us. May our hearts remain open to Your correction. Come close to us as we turn to You. Thought Questions: What does it say to Jesus to want white garments in glory, but soil your garments in this life? Why must you choose holiness now? If your deeds are faithful, how might God open a door for you that no one can close? What does that mean, and has He already done so? What is “lukewarm”? Why does Jesus advise such a one to buy gold, garments, and eye salve from Him? What does He mean by that?
When our eyes are fixed on our problems, it doesn't do as much good. The answer isn't inside our problems. Pastor Ray Bentley says, don't focus there. And where are we to have our eyes on the one who is sitting upon the throne? A throne center's authority. What is God saying? He's saying, I'm in charge. I rule. I'm still on the throne.
In this enlightening sermon from our series, "The Wonderful World of the Apocalypse," we dive into the meaningful discussion of holiness and devotion as depicted in Revelation 3. Seven Letters from the King - Revelation 3:7-13
The rapture will come upon us quickly. The Bible says in the twinkling of an eye. Pastor Ray Bentley says that's not the time to get ready. I have met people that will say, when it all is happening, then I'll come to the Lord. When the rapture happens, whenever it happens, it will happen so fast that you could blink and the time you blinked and open your eyes again.
Pastor Ray Bentley on Jesus warnings to the lukewarm church. It lay out a sin. Here's what Jesus is saying. Just to say you're okay doesn't mean that in reality you are okay. It's possible to be religious and think you are the greatest thing since sliced bread. We're awesome. Look at all the things that we do. And yet the reality is that you are miserable inside.
Today, pastor Ray Bentley explains why the church at lay on Laodicea was lukewarm. If we believe that Jesus is God manifest in the flesh, and he's in us and in our hearts and lives as a community, there should be evidence of something supernatural, which ultimately means changed lives. What it means is that earlier this year was a church that kept meeting, but nobody.

John is receiving direct revelation from Jesus Christ concerning what he should write to seven churches of his day. In our last episode we covered the churches at Ephesus, Smyrna, Pergamum, and Thyatira. Today we'll cover the churches of Sardis, Philadelphia, and Laodicea. Sardis was known for being alive in Christ, but in reality they were dead. The Lord discerns between those who have kept their way pure and those who have defiled themselves. The church in Philadelphia is commended for enduring in faithfulness even though they has but little power; to them belong the promise of a new Jerusalem. The church in Laodicea is compared to the luke-warm water that was piped into the city: neither cold and refreshing nor hot and therapeutic. Their riches had deceived them into thinking they didn't need to rely on the Lord. :::Christian Standard Bible translation. All music written and produced by John Burgess Ross.Co-produced by the Christian Standard Biblefacebook.com/commuterbibleinstagram.com/commuter_bibletwitter.com/CommuterPodpatreon.com/commuterbibleadmin@commuterbible.org

Today. Pastor Ray Bentley on Jesus words to the church at Laodicea. I wish that you were either hot, passionate, on fire, in love with me, or I wish that you were like Colossae, where the mountain waters are so fresh and they're cold. I want my church to either be cold and refreshing or hot and healing. But you are neither.
Pastor Ray Bentley says we shouldn't wait too long to make our hearts right with the Lord. There's too much at stake. Jesus often gave this promise I am coming, and when I come, it'll happen like that. It'll happen in a moment. It'll happen like a thief in the night. You don't have time to adjust. There are many people that say, well, I'm going to wait until this happens, and then I'm going to get right with God and I'll be ready for the end.

Old Testament Reading Isaiah 55 (P. 615)New Testament Reading Colossians 1:9-23 (P. 983)
Are you spiritually alive or just going through the motions? Jesus told a busy, active church that they had a reputation for being alive but were actually dead. In our world of endless spiritual options, it's easy to treat Jesus as just another choice rather than the risen Lord. What's the difference between spiritual dryness and spiritual death? How can you tell if you're truly alive to the Gospel or just culturally Christian? The answer might surprise you and could change everything about how you live your faith.
Pastor Ray Bentley on Jesus message to one of the churches of revelation. I believe that Jesus not only spoke to the local church of Philadelphia, 2000 years ago, but he was also looking far into the future before the Second coming of Christ. That there would be a Church of Philadelphia with an open door of opportunity and and literally being able to bring the whole gospel to the whole world and fulfill the Great Commission.
This Hebrew Israelite claimed to shut down our Christian apologetics conference with one question. It's a question that he says no Christian has ever been able to give a concrete answer to. So, how does Jesus saying "my God" in Revelation 3:12 fit in a framework of co-equal and co-eternal persons? Join me, Eric Hernandez, and Vocab Malone, as we respond to this claim and show how this "gotcha" question doesn't work.

Pastor Ray Bentley points out, Jesus had some words of observation about the Church of Philadelphia. Jesus also praised this church for being faithful to his Word. They were discipling in the word. They were evangelizing the word. They were sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ. This church not only knew the word and the truth, but they were seeking to live it to the best of their ability.

Pastor Ray Bentley reminds us where to love our brothers and sisters in Christ. But there is another thing that distinguishes us from every other group Jesus said, you also must love your white enemies. How can we use all of our time, energy, money, resources, emotion, heart, passion, creativity to love those who are our enemies and love one another?
Pastor Ray Bentley. Every day is a gift from God. A day that we can rejoice. And may I add your setting. The patterns of your own life and nature character that will flow right into your first day in the Kingdom of God. No man knows the day that eternity will invade his or her life. Saint Augustine said the last day is a secret and that every day must then be washed.
The most famous letter in Revelation gives the most stark image: Jesus spitting lukewarm Christians out of his mouth. But is that really what the letter is all about? The letter to the church in Laodicea is a stark reminder that Jesus isn't moved by wealth, status, or comfort, but by simply abiding with him.
Pastor Ray Bentley with insight on repentance. Is there a place, or are there situations or circumstances or even old relationships that need to be severed in order that you might be totally, completely given to the Lord Jesus Christ? Have you destroyed the Old Kingdom? You're totally sold out to him. That's what repentance really means. Does it mean to turn around and go in the opposite direction?
In this powerful message, we dive into the fifth letter of Revelation, addressing the church in Sardis. Drawing lessons from the ancient city's tragic history, Pastor delves into the prophetic words of Jesus, urging us to awaken and recognize our spiritual vulnerabilities. Discover how Sardis' false sense of security led to downfall, not due to known weakness but because of ignored strengths. Unpack the importance of humility, submission, and community in navigating our spiritual journeys. Explore how pride and neglected vulnerabilities can lead us away from Jesus' path of righteousness. Through scripture and historical reflection, learn how to strengthen what remains by relying on the Holy Spirit and embracing the transformative power of confession and repentance. This sermon challenges us to revisit our assumptions, protect our spiritual lives, and maintain a living, active relationship with Jesus. Join us as we uncover ways to guard against the unseen cliffs that threaten to undermine our faith and watchfulness.
To the church in Laodicea, Jesus presents himself as the only true source that guarantees the good life. He then calls out his church for attempting to secure the good life with their own resources. As such, Jesus exhorts his church to receive from him the resources they need for the good life. Lastly, Jesus reassures his church that they will truly live the good life as they enjoy rich fellowship with him.

Today, pastor Ray Bentley highlights Jesus message to the church of Sardis, a warning that could well apply to some of today's churches. This church was not attacked from the outside. There was no persecution. Why? She wasn't a threat to the enemy. She was so lifeless she wasn't even worth attacking. The church was more interested in appearances than they were interested in faithfulness to the Word of God, more interested in what people thought than what God thought spread disease.
Today, pastor Ray Bentley points out how the Lord reserved some strong words of critique for the church of Sardis as recorded in revelation. Jesus wants the church of Sardis, and he wants every church to know that he desires to lead and guide his church by making the Word of God come alive and fitting into our lives and into our church life and community, to be led by the Holy Spirit.
Pastor Erina reflects on the letter to Laodicea and the trappings of wealth and power in our life with Jesus. How might material prosperity lead us to forsake our own spiritual poverty? How might Jesus want to free us from self-deception in order to pursue faithful and uncompromised witness?

Jesus has opened the door of salvation to any and all who will come in. Disciples are called to keep the door open, even on those who oppose the way of Jesus, in hopes that they might enter through the door as well. Keep the door open.
To the church in Philadelphia, Jesus presents himself as the faithful doorkeeper to God's kingdom. He then commends his church for their active faithfulness despite their apparent weakness. As such, Jesus exhorts his church to remain faithful until he returns. Lastly, Jesus reassures his church that they have a permanent place of honor in God's kingdom.
"The Church That Grew Lukewarm" (Revelation 3:14-22)
The church at Laodicea had become so ineffective and powerless that Jesus compared them to a tepid beverage. Jesus declares himself as one with full power and authority and declares that the church in Sardis, though having the reputation of being alive, was actually dead. It had become a church where it was just going through the motions with no fight left in them. They had no significance to God's Kingdom, no threat to Satan and the enemy, and no signs of life. But yet, Jesus still does not give up on them and exhorts them to wake up, repent, and remember the truth of God's words. Even in a dire condition as this, Jesus recognizes that there will be some who will remain faithful. He promises swift judgment upon those who remain in their deadened state. But for those who remain faithful, Jesus gives the assurance of recognition and eternal life.
