Most people think spiritual danger looks like rebellion. But Jesus warned about something far more subtle — and far more dangerous. This video explores what the Bible says about lukewarm faith, spiritual drift, and how believers slowly lose passion for God without realizing it.In Revelation 3, Jesus delivers one of His strongest warnings to the church — a warning about becoming spiritually lukewarm. But what does lukewarm Christianity really mean? And why is spiritual indifference often more dangerous than outright rebellion? In this message, we talk about:• The slow fade of faith• How believers drift from God without noticing• The warning signs of spiritual complacency• Why lukewarm faith is so dangerous• How Jesus lovingly calls drifting hearts back to HimIf you've ever felt spiritually dry, distracted, or stuck going through religious routines without passion, this message will help you recognize the warning signs and rediscover spiritual fire.⸻

The church at Laodicea was rich and in a rich city. Money was important to them. They were self sufficient. Worldly wealth was their measuring rod for success while spiritual values were ignored. Find out how Jesus described them (it's not pretty) and take to heart His charge to turn back to Him and get on fire for God.
An onsite visit to the church in Laodicea explains why Jesus had only condemnation for this church. “Lukewarm” described their water system and their compromised devotion of Him. How could they be so half-hearted towards Jesus, the Alpha and Omega, the Faithful Witness, the Amen Himself? Listen with your whole heart to discover how not to lose your fervor for God.

In this study of Revelation 3, Dr. J. Vernon McGee tells us about a church that was true to the Word of God. The church of Philadelphia represents all churches the world over that remain true to preaching and living out God's Word. Dr. McGee loved one verse in this passage so much it became Thru the Bible's theme verse.
As we look at the 5th church in the book of Revelation we come to the church in the city of Sardis. Very interesting Church, they were not in similar surrounding threats or sinful influences as other churches, but they had lacked what I came to agreement with when Matthew Henry categorize this church as “hypocrites” and I share further on that. I also share some insight on “one's name being blocked out from the book of life.” This term can scare believers when they first read it, but I share some commentary and some insight to help us understand when this term is used.Josiahmovius12@yahoo.comBible Portal website for free commentary and great resources:https://www.bibleportal.com/commentaries
If you visited the church of Sardis in the first century, you could only get in the city by one entrance. The city itself was on the top of a mountain, secure unless the guards fell asleep. To this church, the Lord says, “Wake up and watch out! Don't you go to sleep!” If you feel a little drowsy, dive into this study of Revelation 3 with Dr. J. Vernon McGee.

What does Jesus do with lukewarm faith? The heart of this message calls us to see ourselves clearly, repent of spiritual complacency, and respond to God with zealous love instead of lukewarm religion. Jesus stands at the door and knocks, not to condemn, but to invite us back into passionate, wholehearted relationship with Him. Thank you for listening to the Truth for Today Podcast! n chapters 29 and 30 Job summarised his defence to his friends; before making his final appeal in chapter 31. In the opening verses of chapter 29 Job reflected on former years when everything was well and then all blessed him, including the Almighty. He reminisces about his lost family. As well as the message, let us enjoy the majestic and poetic language in this part of Scripture. At that time all strata within his society were in awe of him, and showed their respect in his presence. The poor and the disabled blessed his care and charity. He was the protector of the oppressed and the vanquisher of all those who sought self-advancement at the cost of the downtrodden. People waited for his words of wisdom and acted upon his counsel. Chapter 30 muses on the sad and sorry state he was in now. The young, who were not suitable enough to look after Job's dogs, disdained and scorned him. The lazy sloths of the past now looked down on Job. That rabble made up hurtful ditties and songs about the once respected elder. In addition, the mental torment from which Job suffered was made worse by his intense physical struggles. Any cry for support was met by ignoring him, or, even worse, by turning their backs on him. Job tells of his pain and exclusion from human company. The wild animals were his companions and their doleful cries his music.

Send me a Text Message!I used to pray, God put me in the place where you can use me the best, but these last few years, my prayer has changed, now it's God put me in the place where you can love me the best. And isn't this what Jesus is saying is the reward of those who have little strength and keep his word and love his name? Yes, sure this is an open door to make a difference. This is the church that will feed a hungry world and love their neighbors all the way to Jesus. But don't miss this. If we don't have intimacy with Christ, we won't make an impact for Christ. As you listen to this episode, I hope a point comes where you pause and ask yourself, "What if that's Jesus knocking on my door?"
Send me a Text Message! So in this episode and the next we are going to hit the last two letters, but I'm going to deal with them together…because they go well together. They go well together because they both reference a door. The church of Philadelphia has an open door. The church of Laodecia has a closed door. Will this Christmas bring you an open door, or a closed door?

Revelation 3:7-13 | Pastor Rick Packinghouse's Sunday morning worship service from December 14, 2025. Jesus' letter to Philadelphia reminds a small, pressured church that He is holy, true, and in charge—the One with the key of David who opens doors no one can shut and shuts doors no one can open. He sees their faithfulness, sets an “open door” before them (whether fresh ministry or sure entrance to His Kingdom), and promises that persecutors won't have the last word. The “synagogue of Satan” line targets a specific hostile group in their day, not the Jewish people as a whole; the real battle is spiritual, and Christ will vindicate His people. Because they've kept His word, Jesus will keep them—assuring protection from a coming global trial—and urges them to “hold fast” so they don't lose rewards (crowns), while their salvation remains secure. He promises overcomers a place like a pillar—stable, honored, never shaken—and a new name in God's New Jerusalem. The takeaway is simple: when life feels small or shaky, cling to the faithful Jesus who keeps His promises, opens the right doors, and anchors His people in love until He comes. - Rick Cornejo - Sunday, December 14, 2025

To Sardis, He warns that they have a reputation for being alive but are actually spiritually dead. He calls them to wake up, strengthen what remains, and repent before He comes like a thief. To Philadelphia, He offers no rebuke but encourages them to hold fast, promising protection and honor for their faithfulness. He places before them an open door of opportunity for service that no one can shut. To Laodicea, He issues a stern warning, rebuking their lukewarm faith. He urges them to become zealous and repent. Though He stands at the door and knocks, He will only come in if invited. Each message ends with a promise to those who overcome, listening to the Spirit's wisdom. We are called to examine the true state of our hearts. It is possible to appear strong in faith while drifting far from God. Jesus sees beyond our reputation and invites us to wake up, repent, and return to what is lasting. We must not settle for a lukewarm life. He desires that we walk in full devotion, not half-hearted belief. When we remain faithful, even with little strength, He opens doors that no one can close. We do not earn these promises, but we are invited to respond with faith and endurance. Jesus stands at the door, ready to come in. We must choose to listen, respond with humility, and walk in renewed fellowship with Him each day. All-powerful God, You see us as we truly are. You know when we are strong, and You know when we have grown cold or distant. Thank You for sharing the power of Jesus and calling us to serve Him more faithfully. Wake us up when we become complacent. Give us courage to repent and strength to follow through. Help us not to live for appearances but to walk in genuine faith and devotion. When we feel weak, remind us that You are with us. May our hearts remain open to Your correction. Come close to us as we turn to You. Thought Questions: What does it say to Jesus to want white garments in glory, but soil your garments in this life? Why must you choose holiness now? If your deeds are faithful, how might God open a door for you that no one can close? What does that mean, and has He already done so? What is “lukewarm”? Why does Jesus advise such a one to buy gold, garments, and eye salve from Him? What does He mean by that?
When our eyes are fixed on our problems, it doesn't do as much good. The answer isn't inside our problems. Pastor Ray Bentley says, don't focus there. And where are we to have our eyes on the one who is sitting upon the throne? A throne center's authority. What is God saying? He's saying, I'm in charge. I rule. I'm still on the throne.
In this enlightening sermon from our series, "The Wonderful World of the Apocalypse," we dive into the meaningful discussion of holiness and devotion as depicted in Revelation 3. This message sheds light on Jesus' prophetic message to the church in Philadelphia, redefining holiness as an intimate invitation into God's presence rather than just moral perfection.Explore how Jesus emphasizes true devotion over worldly measures of success and how choosing holiness opens doors to lasting hope and divine blessing. Through stories of unwavering faith, discover the incredible power of a life devoted to Jesus Christ and how it transforms personal and communal experiences. This sermon not only provides deeper scriptural insights but also invites you to a life of unshakeable faith and true significance. Seven Letters from the King - Revelation 3:7-13
The rapture will come upon us quickly. The Bible says in the twinkling of an eye. Pastor Ray Bentley says that's not the time to get ready. I have met people that will say, when it all is happening, then I'll come to the Lord. When the rapture happens, whenever it happens, it will happen so fast that you could blink and the time you blinked and open your eyes again.
Pastor Ray Bentley on Jesus warnings to the lukewarm church. It lay out a sin. Here's what Jesus is saying. Just to say you're okay doesn't mean that in reality you are okay. It's possible to be religious and think you are the greatest thing since sliced bread. We're awesome. Look at all the things that we do. And yet the reality is that you are miserable inside.
Today, pastor Ray Bentley explains why the church at lay on Laodicea was lukewarm. If we believe that Jesus is God manifest in the flesh, and he's in us and in our hearts and lives as a community, there should be evidence of something supernatural, which ultimately means changed lives. What it means is that earlier this year was a church that kept meeting, but nobody.

Today. Pastor Ray Bentley on Jesus words to the church at Laodicea. I wish that you were either hot, passionate, on fire, in love with me, or I wish that you were like Colossae, where the mountain waters are so fresh and they're cold. I want my church to either be cold and refreshing or hot and healing. But you are neither.
Pastor Ray Bentley says we shouldn't wait too long to make our hearts right with the Lord. There's too much at stake. Jesus often gave this promise I am coming, and when I come, it'll happen like that. It'll happen in a moment. It'll happen like a thief in the night. You don't have time to adjust. There are many people that say, well, I'm going to wait until this happens, and then I'm going to get right with God and I'll be ready for the end.

Pastor Ray Bentley on Jesus message to one of the churches of revelation. I believe that Jesus not only spoke to the local church of Philadelphia, 2000 years ago, but he was also looking far into the future before the Second coming of Christ. That there would be a Church of Philadelphia with an open door of opportunity and and literally being able to bring the whole gospel to the whole world and fulfill the Great Commission.
This Hebrew Israelite claimed to shut down our Christian apologetics conference with one question. It's a question that he says no Christian has ever been able to give a concrete answer to. So, how does Jesus saying "my God" in Revelation 3:12 fit in a framework of co-equal and co-eternal persons? Join me, Eric Hernandez, and Vocab Malone, as we respond to this claim and show how this "gotcha" question doesn't work.

Pastor Ray Bentley points out, Jesus had some words of observation about the Church of Philadelphia. Jesus also praised this church for being faithful to his Word. They were discipling in the word. They were evangelizing the word. They were sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ. This church not only knew the word and the truth, but they were seeking to live it to the best of their ability.
