Genesis 24 v1 - v26 - Part 1 New Testament
The story of Abraham's servant seeking a wife for Isaac serves as a beautiful model of how God works behind the scenes, orchestrating events and guiding our paths. We're reminded that even when we don't see visible signs or angelic interventions, God is still moving, allowing 'happenings to happen' that align with His divine purpose. This narrative challenges us to recognize God's subtle guidance in our own lives, encouraging us to trust in His providence and to be open to His leading. As we reflect on our own journeys, we're invited to see the seemingly coincidental moments as potential divine appointments, strengthening our faith and deepening our relationship with God.
At 67 verses, Genesis 24 is the longest chapter in Genesis. But it's important because it signals a kind of changing of the guard from Abraham to Isaac. It's the love story between the chosen son and his faithful bride, Rebekah. In this story, we have laid before us a beautiful type and shadow of God's pursuit of His Church—the Bride for His only Son, whom He loves. In this message, we learn that God's determination to gather a people for Himself demands that we trust His leading prayerfully.
When concluded our last reading, we found ourselves in the middle of an account concerning Abraham's servant and Isaac's future wife Rebekah. Abraham didn't want Isaac marrying a Canaanite woman, so he sent a messenger to find a wife for his son from among his own people. The servant recounts what happened in the last episode almost verbatim, so if you get a bit of déjà vu, don't worry. We'll see that the apple doesn't fall too far from the tree as we read about Isaac and Rebekah. Later, we'll be introduced to Isaac's sons: Esau & Jacob.Genesis 24:29-67 - 1:06 . Genesis 25 - 8:39 . Big Idea: Humbly recognize Yahweh's astounding provision for the promised offspring.

In Genesis 24 an old and faithful Abraham sends his faithful steward Eliezer to Haran in search of a lifelong covenant wife for his son, Isaac. Eliezer is bound by a covenant Abraham makes with him to diligently fulfill the obligation of finding a true believer, who will be a help meet for Isaac on the journey to God's kingdom. So Eliezer left Abraham accompanied by a large retinue of servants and many camels; and vast wealthy gifts. Upon arrival in Haran Eliezer makes his responsibilities a matter of prayer and asks of the Almighty a very specific sign. No sooner had he finished his prayer than Rebekah arrives and says the very words of his prayer. Eliezer is amazed at the power of his God and bows his head in reverence. The 10 camels are watered by Rebekah – an immense task – and the company taken to Laban's house; where Laban notices the wealthy jewels given to Rebekah by Eliezer. Laban's words, “Come in thou blessed of Yahweh”, indicates both some knowledge of God, and the familiar use of the LORD's divine name of Yahweh, the use of which goes back to the beginning of Creation (Genesis 4 verses 1, 25 and 26). Rebekah had reported the circumstances of meeting Eliezer prior to Laban's remarks. From verses 31and 49 Eliezer tells Laban of the mission he has undertaken and its importance. Note it is not just another task Eliezer was given, but the entrusted responsibility of securing a bride who will ensure the faithful continuance of maintaining the truth promised to Abraham and his seed. In verse 51 Laban asserts his agreement with Rebekah going to the household of Abraham. Once again Eliezer responds to his Sovereign reverently. Many valuable gifts were given to Laban, by way of a bride price. After all of this has happened Rebekah's thoughts are requested. She assented and is sent away the next day with her family's blessing. Isaac went out in the evening to pray (“meditate” verse 63); and after her enquiry as to the man meeting the homecoming troop, Rebekah shows Isaac respect and is taken into Isaac's tent as his God chosen bride. And Isaac loved Rebekah dearly. Psalm 29 ascribed to Yahweh the glory and majesty due to His awesome Name. The powerful and frightening displays in nature are attributed to “the voice of Yahweh”. This is of course consistent with what Genesis 1 said, Yahweh spake and it was done – ie it came into being. All things exist and are maintained and sustained by the Word of Yahweh. What magnificent poetic language the Psalm sets before us. Verse 6 for example describes figuratively an earthquake. The Psalm concludes with Yahweh enthroned in the heavens exercising dominion over all His creation. “The voice of Yahweh” is used in this Psalm seven times and is perhaps symbolic of the “seven thunders” in Revelation 10 verse 4. Praise and extol His Name for this.Psalm 30 is a Psalm focussing on the joy the Almighty can bring to His children. This can be true even when our foes rise against us bringing despair. Jesus found the same at the time of his greatest extremity and encouraged his disciples with the same message: compare withJohn 14 verses1 to 3 and 27 to 29. Despite being downtrodden the psalmist finds the joy and support from his Sovereign uplifting. God will never forsake His children (Hebrews 13 verse 5 and 6). In Him, even to some extent in our present life, our mourning can become dancing; and our sackcloth exchanged for clothes of joy. This will be so much more the case when the kingdom of our Lord Jesus Christ arrives and the clothing of our mortal sorrow is swapped for joyful immortal life. Slowly read aloud Psalm 45 verse 7and 8 and deeply reflect on those words. cont reading here https://christadelphianvideo.org/thoughts-on-the-bible-readings-for-january-13th-genesis-24-psalms-29-and-30-and-matthew-15/

The events of the Tower of Babel story are more applicable to us today than we may have imagined. It is probably something we have not been taught or even considered. For one thing, the people did not just build a tower. They also built a city. They built a city and a tower. This is huge and must be taken into account. What's this all saying? Also, as the events unfold there is no mention of God. These people probably are not evil. The Bible does not say they are evil. But, these people do not seem to be one's who believe in God. Verses 1-4 they seem to be godless. God shows up finally in verse 5 when He came and saw not just the tower, but the tower and the city. God sees both. The tower is not the focus but the city and the tower. Some Bible teachers will say God was angry with the people and what they did. Huh? There is no mention of God being angry. But God sees that they have one language and they are one people and they will not easily be stopped from doing whatever they wish if this continues. God is saying this is dangerous. Huh? Why? Why is is dangerous. Perhaps it has something to do with the fact that humankind never changed after the flood. In Gen. 6:5 and again after the flood in Gen. 8:21, God tells us through Moses' pen that the imagination of men's hearts is to do evil continually. This idea is seemingly repeated here. Is God warning us that mankind as one people with one language and one worldview without God will lead to uncontrolled evil? Is this perhaps and prediction of the end of days when many will be without God and united as one people and one godless worldview? Let's go see. Rev. Ferret - who is this guy? What's his background? Genesis 24 is a rich narrative in the Bible that recounts the story of Abraham's servant finding a wife for Isaac, Abraham's son. This chapter unfolds as Abraham, now advanced in age, calls upon his trusted servant to journey back to his homeland to find a suitable bride for Isaac, rather than allowing him to marry a local Canaanite woman. Abraham's servant is entrusted with the task of ensuring that Isaac's wife comes from Abraham's own kin, reflecting Abraham's desire to keep his family faithful to the God they worship and follow. The servant, obedient to Abraham's request, departs on the journey, taking with him a variety of gifts. Upon arriving at the city of Nahor, the servant prays for guidance, asking God for a sign to identify the right woman for Isaac. He prays that the woman who offers him water and also voluntarily offers to draw water for his camels will be the one God has chosen. As he finishes praying, Rebekah, a relative of Abraham, arrives at the well and fulfills the sign exactly as the servant had asked. Rebekah's kindness and hospitality confirm to the servant that she is indeed God's chosen wife for Isaac. He offers her family gifts and explains his mission to her brother, Laban, who agrees to let Rebekah go. When Rebekah herself is consulted, she willingly consents to go with the servant to become Isaac's wife. Upon their return, Isaac sees Rebekah from a distance and is immediately struck by her beauty and grace. The chapter concludes with a tender moment as Isaac and Rebekah are married, bringing comfort to Isaac after the death of his mother, Sarah. Genesis 24 is significant because it highlights themes of faith, obedience, and divine guidance. Abraham's trust in God to provide for Isaac, the servant's faithful commitment to his master's wishes, and Rebekah's willingness to leave her home all reflect deep faith. This story emphasizes that God is involved in the lives of His people and is guiding them according to His purposes.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/sendme-radio--732966/support.
