(Luke 2:7-15) On the night of Christ's birth the first words announced were: "Fear not." Christ came to cast out sin and all of the fear that is connected to it. The Lord Jesus came to bring peace. In this final message of the Rejoice series, Pastor Jim teaches from Luke 2 and explores the angelic announcement to the shepherds, showing how the glory of God should evoke great fear—yet through Jesus, that fear gives way to great joy and peace on earth. He reminds us that God's holiness is overwhelming and unapproachable, like lightning that should consume us, but in Jesus, that immense power is made near and safe, wrapped in flesh and laid in a manger. Jim challenges listeners not to grow numb to the miracle of God's presence, but to respond with awe, rejoicing, and renewed peace. Just as the shepherds were invited into joy and Mary treasured all these things in her heart, we are invited to behold the Savior, prepare room for Him, and let our hearts melt before the one who brings peace to those on whom His favor rests.
Merry Christmas! The Christmas story from Luke 2 may be a story that is new to some of us and to others it may be very familiar. We are going to look at the part of the story that is about the shepherds. Luke 2:8-9 we read, "And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified." Did you know that being a shepherd in Jesus' day was one of the lowliest jobs one could have? They were in the fields all the time, they smelled like sheep and were treated like sheep. But isn't it interesting that they are the first ones to hear the announcement that the Savior has come! What was their first reaction to the first Christmas? FEAR! Luke 2:10-11 go on to tells us, "But the angel said to them, "Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord." What we see happen is that the shepherds absolute fear is turned to overwhelming JOY! But let's not stop there. Let's look at what the angel says, "I bring you good news (Gospel!) that will cause great joy for all people!" And today when the GOSPEL breaks into a person's life it brings JOY! Because Jesus would go to the cross and rise from the grave, He brings JOY! Gospel Joy centers around one person. In vs 11 we read that a Savior has been born; He is the Messiah, the Lord. This good news brings the news of a Savior. The Old Testament is very clear about who the Savior is: ⁃ Isaiah 43:11 "I, even I, am the Lord and apart from me there is no savior." ⁃ Hosea 13:4 "You shall acknowledge no God but me, no Savior except me." The Savior is none other than God Himself! Messiah, Savior, Lord! God has come down to earth exactly as the Old Testament prophets predicted and what the New Testament declares. The One who created the universe took on human flesh. The Living Word of God dwelt among us. He saved us by offering Himself as the sacrifice for our rebellion. He did it because we were helpless and bound to sin and destined to judgement. But HE is the Savior, the Lord, and He comes for ALL people. He wants all to be saved! That's the good news! THAT'S THE GOSPEL MESSAGE! And thus, how great our joy! 1 Peter 1:8-9 says, "… you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy, for you are receiving the end result of your faith, the salvation of your souls." The Christmas story is about far more than peace on earth. The Christmas story is about the fact that God has stepped in and He offers to all of us, who repent and believe, forgiveness and life forever. THAT'S the Gospel story, that's the story of Christmas, that's the Good News of our Lord Jesus Christ! May each and everyone of us experience that Gospel Joy this Christmas and forever! Now What? A Christmas Message MESSAGE SUMMARY: The real meaning of Christmas is to celebrate the birth of Jesus the Christ – the Messiah, who is the Savior of the World. Christians emphasize Christmas and Jesus' birth because His birth: 1) fulfills many Biblical prophesies, especially n terms of the time and location of Jesus' birth; 2) points the fact that Jesus was more than just a man; 3) and life saw Jesus claim the right to forgive sins; 4) led Jesus to call God His “Father”, which indicated that Jesus was God; 5) resulted in Jesus' Resurrection, which validated Jesus' claims and made Him different; and 6) was God, through Jesus' birth, still trying to get our attention. God, through His Grace and through the birth of Jesus, did for us what we could not do for ourselves – save ourselves from our sins and our death that would result from our sins. God, through the birth of Jesus -- the God-Man, entered into our earthly mess to save us because, after God's Grace and Jesus' birth, all our sin now resides on Jesus. God's Grace through the birth of Jesus, demonstrates God's love for us. God wants us to know that Jesus was born for us out of His love for us. Therefore, we need to consider that God, the Creator of the Universe, entered the world, through the baby Jesus for us so that we might have a personal relationship with Him. Have you yielded to God so that your mind's consideration of God's Grace, love, and Jesus' birth can move from your mind into a commitment of both your mind and your heart to your faith in Jesus as your Savior and into God's service? Until we yield to God's lordship over our lives, we are saying to God that “we don't need your love”. Is Jesus your Lord and, therefore, your Savior? God has given you the greatest Christmas gift that you will ever receive. Have you accepted His Gift and opened His gift into your life? If not, then why not? With your hands open, you can accept God's Christmas gift by saying: “I am sorry; thank you; and please”. TODAY'S PRAYER: Keeping the Sabbath, Lord, will require a lot of changes in the way I am living life. Teach me, Lord, how to take the next step with this in a way that fits my unique personality and situation. Help me to trust you with all that will remain unfinished and to enjoy my humble place in your very large world. In Jesus' name, amen. Scazzero, Peter. Emotionally Healthy Spirituality Day by Day (p. 129). Zondervan. Kindle Edition. TODAY'S AFFIRMATION: I affirm that because of what God has done for me in His Son, Jesus, I AM RIGHTEOUS IN GOD'S EYES. God made Him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in Him we might become the righteousness of God. (2 Corinthians 5:21). Justin Bieber BioSnap a weekly updated Biography.Justin Bieber has been keeping a low profile over the holidays but made waves with a poignant Christmas message on identity and faith, declaring to Billboard via JubileeCast, "I'm not a product," as he reflected on industry pressures, healing through forgiveness, and hoping for a more compassionate music world that values artists as people. AOL reports he and Hailey cozied up for Christmas 2025, countering unverified rumors from less reliable outlets like emec.org.uk claiming he wanted a quiet holiday alone without her—no credible sources confirm any marital strain. In Tokyo earlier this month, Setlist.fm confirms Bieber performed a rare live set at the SKYLRK afterparty on December 5 at 1 OAK, tying into his fashion brand's five-day popup shop from December 4 to 8, which 3Dnatives and 3D Printing Industry hailed for debuting the innovative 3D-printed Earth Bender sneaker under his Skylrk label co-founded with Neima Khaila and design input from Hailey. The Hollywood Gossip notes he lost about 270,000 Instagram followers around December 3, prompting a defiant middle-finger selfie post with no explanation, while he vented frustration over Apple's iPhone dictation glitch interrupting his music, earning thousands of likes and an OpenAI invite. Business buzz persists from Hailey's Rhode sale to e.l.f. Beauty for one billion dollars in May, which Parade and AOL say boosted their combined net worth to around 500 million, with Justin publicly praising her hustle. Musically, The Honey Pop crowns his Swag album—his first in four years—a 2025 Spotify Wrapped triumph with R&B hits like Yukon and Devotion, signaling a mature comeback ahead of his confirmed Coachella 2026 headline slot, though no full tour is planned per insiders. These moves underscore Bieber's pivot to controlled ventures, health focus, and empire-building, far outweighing fleeting social media noise in biographical weight. Thanks for tuning in, come back next week for more. Justin Bieber BioSnap a weekly updated Biography.According to Billboard and JubileeCast, the most biographically significant Justin Bieber development of the past few days is not a party shot but a post. In a widely shared Christmas season message, he wrote candidly about the personal cost of fame and declared bluntly I am not a product, criticizing how the music industry treats artists as commodities. He described feeling shaped, rushed, and used in his earlier career, but framed this as a story of healing, saying he has been restored through confronting pain rather than numbing it, and tying that process to his Christian faith, forgiveness, and a new sense of worth beyond chart positions. Commentators at JubileeCast say the remarks have resonated across the industry, positioning Justin less as a teen idol and more as a veteran voice in the broader mental health and artist rights conversation, a shift that could shape his legacy long after any single record. On the lighter side of the holiday news cycle, AOLs Christmas roundups placed Justin and Hailey Bieber on the cozy celebrity list, noting that the couple spent the holiday season together and looked very much a united front amid a year of constant speculation about their marriage. Entertainment outlets continue to recycle older December pap shots and travel sightings, but no major new public appearance or red carpet moment has been confirmed in just the past few days, and there are no verified updates on new business signings, tours, or deals in that same narrow window. In music and business context that is still driving headlines, The Honey Pop and Vogue Singapore both continue to spotlight his 2025 double albums Swag and Swag II as defining pop releases of the year, with more than forty tracks that reframe him as an R and B leaning adult artist rather than a nostalgia act, while earlier coverage from Music Business Worldwide and Parade underscores how his catalog sale and expanding fashion ventures have turned him into a full scale asset and brand. Looking ahead, fan and blog chatter about a 2026 Coachella headline slot, expanded Twitch livestreams, and new SKYLRK drops remains speculative only, with no formal confirmation from Justin or his team.Get the best deals https://amzn.to/3ODvOtaThis content was created in partnership and with the help of Artificial Intelligence AI

In keeping with the season, I offer a little political anecdote about Christmas.More specifically, it's about the moral teachings of the biblical Jesus, which formed the ethical foundation of Christmas and gives Christianity itself its true gravity. The story is about a political clash some 60 years ago in Houston, when a boorish right-winger accosted the feisty mother of a renowned progressive populist lawmaker, US Rep. Bob Eckhardt. Bob, whom I later got to know and learn from, was a fierce battler for racial equality in a time when not all Texans were singing in Kumbaya harmony.Sure enough, at a public forum where Bob's mom was representing him, this bonehead loudly demanded to know why her son was trying to make “them [Black people] equal to whites.” Ms. Eckhardt cut off the fellow's ugly diatribe by, of all things, offering an apology! Her son's advocacy, she said, was not his fault, but hers: “You see, I raised him to be a Christian.”Today, however, Mother Eckhardt's put down might lack the clarity it had back then. This is a strange Christmas – concluding a year in which far right extremists have relentlessly perverted the profound and love-based Christianity of Jesus into a partisan ethic promising brutish rule. As we've seen, their “beatitudes” include repression of the poor, worship of Mammon, turning away strangers, hatred of thy neighbor… and so awful much more that rejects the values of Jesus – all in the name of establishing something they call “Christian Nationalism.”This is Jim Hightower saying… God bless America. And please hurry! But remember, God helps those who help themselves. That means you and me. So, let's work together to create a merrier, truer Christmas next year.Jim Hightower's Lowdown is a reader-supported publication. In his Christmas message, King Charles the Third invoked wartime spirit and urged communities to pull together in an increasingly divided world, saying, “With the great diversity of our communities we can find the strength to ensure that right triumphs over wrong.”The address was recorded in Westminster Abbey, marking the second consecutive year the King has delivered his message away from a royal residence. Speaking from the medieval Lady Chapel, he reflected on the 80th anniversaries of VE Day and VJ Day and praised the courage and sacrifice of the wartime generation. The King also highlighted acts of “spontaneous bravery” in recent emergencies, including the Bondi Beach attack in Australia, and spoke of the importance of faith leaders working together, referencing his prayer alongside Pope Leo during a Vatican visit. A Ukrainian choir performed a carol during the broadcast, underscoring the King's continued support for Ukraine.Quoting T. S. Eliot, the King called for calm and reflection as “our world seems to spin ever faster,” with aides suggesting the message alluded to the impact of new technologies and the idea of a digital detox. The broadcast avoided personal matters, including the King's health and his brother Andrew. Instead, it focused on the working royals, with footage of Prince William and Catherine, and images of Prince George visiting a homelessness charity for the first time. The message concluded with a reflection on the Christmas story as one of peace, reconciliation, and compassion, which the King described as “a prayer for our times.”Hear our new show "Crown and Controversy: Prince Andrew" here.Check out "Palace Intrigue Presents: King WIlliam" here.
Are we living in a computer simulation, or are our lives more meaningful? In this Christmas Eve sermon from Grace Cathedral in San Francisco, Malcolm Clemens Young explores how the Christmas story offers a powerful counter-narrative to our technological age. Drawing on philosophy, literature, and personal experience, this sermon addresses: The difference between digital consciousness and embodied spirituality How God speaks through silence, ordinary moments, and even tragedy Finding meaning beyond the "American dream" narrative Experiencing God's presence rather than just proving God's existence The Christmas message: "You are loved by God" Featuring insights from Nick Bostrom's simulation theory, The Matrix, Aldous Huxley's Brave New World, and reflections on grief, joy, and the peace that surpasses understanding. Perfect for anyone questioning meaning in modern life, seeking spiritual depth during the holidays, or exploring how ancient wisdom speaks to contemporary challenges.

It's Episode 400. A milestone. And while the rest of the world is checking out for the holidays, the machinery of war is heating up.
