I wish we could have went on for another hour with Miyo but she had some people she needed to strangle on the mats. We had a great time and it's a great episode to get your heads thinking if you are doing everything you can to prepare yourself incase of an attacker. Miyo is not only a bad ass on the mats but she is a becoming one of Utah's advocate for women self defense and women's jiujitsu by not just self defense but I think just her sharing her own experiences to others helps a lot too! Kristin shared her story of her journey fighting breast cancer and the challenges she faced from her diagnosis, her chemo sessions, and surgeries to being in remission. Kristin shared about her deployment to Baghdad, Iraq while serving in the Army and her convoy being hit with an IED attack and how she coped with her transition after her deployment. Kristin is a Brazilian Jiujitsu Brown Belt under Professor Paul Silva from Carlson Gracie San Diego, CA she is also an Army Combat Veteran and a breast cancer survivor and currently trains at Carlson Gracie Gilbert, AZ.
We had the opportunity to sit down with not just one of the best competitors in the brown belt division but one of the funnest guys around. Ryan and I had such a great time listening to him share his story of how his childhood helped shape him be the great man he is becoming.
