Kerry Lutz and David Erfle discuss the current state of the gold and silver markets, with Erfle predicting a 15% correction in gold after its strong 18-month rally. He expects gold to stabilize between $2,700 and $3,000, while silver, showing resilience, may be poised to catch up due to its undervaluation relative to gold. They explore how geopolitical tensions, rising corporate debt, and the shift of China and Japan from buyers to sellers of U.S. debt are fueling uncertainty, ultimately benefiting precious metals. Erfle also highlights increased merger activity in the silver mining sector, such as Pan American's acquisition of MagSilver, and expresses optimism for junior mining stocks. The conversation wraps up with insights into the U.S. credit situation's impact on Canada and the acceleration of mining projects in British Columbia amid global instability. Compass, episode 15Our previous episode: https://www.cruxinvestor.com/posts/exploration-financing-and-consolidation-fuel-mining-sector-optimismRecording date: 14th May 2025Recent developments in the mining sector show increasing M&A activity alongside robust Q1 performance, according to Olive Resource Capital executives Samuel Pelaez and Derek Macpherson.Pan-American Silver's $2.1 billion acquisition of MAG Silver represents a modest 27% premium but trades at approximately 16-17 times earnings compared to Pan-American's 12 times multiple. The executives indicated they've increased their MAG position following the announcement, speculating that Fresnillo—MAG's joint venture partner at the Juanicipio mine—could potentially make a competing offer given their $1.3 billion cash position. In another consolidation move, Silver47 and Summa Silver are merging in what the executives describe as a "creative transaction" that will create better scale and improve access to passive fund flows, with year-round exploration capabilities.Q1 reporting from major gold producers shows strong cash generation, with gold prices increasing approximately 12% from Q1 to Q2. This price improvement could translate to 30-35% growth in free cash flow for efficient operators. The executives highlighted AngloGold Ashanti as potentially undervalued, producing 720,000 ounces in Q1 with all-in sustaining costs of $1,640 per ounce. Despite generating roughly 30-50% less free cash flow than Agnico Eagle, AngloGold has only about half the market capitalization.K92 Mining was singled out as an exceptional growth opportunity, with funded expansion plans to increase production from 180,000 to approximately 400,000 gold equivalent ounces annually. At its current $2 billion market cap, K92 could potentially generate a 35% cash flow yield once Phase 4 is complete. The executives emphasize free cash flow (CFO + CFI) as the most reliable metric for evaluating mining companies, providing investors with a framework for analyzing companies in the current environment of elevated metal prices.Sign up for Crux Investor: https://cruxinvestor.com

Interview with Paul Andre Huet, CEO, and Oliver Turner, Corporate Development of Americas Gold & SilverOur previous interview: https://www.cruxinvestor.com/posts/americas-gold-silver-eric-sprotts-silver-camp-reboot-6965Recording date: 12th May 2025Americas Gold & Silver (TSX:USA) is experiencing a dramatic transformation under new leadership, positioning itself as a premier turnaround opportunity in an increasingly consolidated silver sector. Since December 2024, CEO Paul Huet and his management team have implemented strategic reforms that have already attracted significant institutional interest. The company's institutional ownership has surged from just 8% to 58% in under six months, reflecting growing investor confidence in the new direction. This dramatic shift coincides with the company's recent addition to the SIL index, providing automatic exposure to major funds like BlackRock and T. Rowe Price, with GDXJ inclusion targeted for September 2025.At the heart of this revival is the historic Galena Complex in Idaho, which once produced 5 million ounces of silver annually but has averaged only 1.3 million ounces over the past decade. Management is implementing modern mining methods, including reintroducing long hole stoping for the first time in ten years, aimed at restoring production to previous peak levels.Recent drilling results have reinforced this optimism, with a newly discovered "34 Vein" returning impressive grades of 983 g/t silver over 3.4 meters. To capitalize on these opportunities, the company is pursuing debt financing for critical infrastructure improvements, including a pastefill plant, remote control equipment, and shaft upgrades to more than double hourly capacity. The investment thesis is further strengthened by the dwindling number of pure-play silver producers available to investors. Following recent acquisitions like Pan American's $2.1 billion purchase of Mag Silver at 1.6x NAV, fewer than 10 significant silver-focused companies remain, creating potential scarcity value.Huet, who previously led a successful turnaround at Kurora where production increased fivefold, has personally invested significantly alongside other executives. The team emphasizes that Americas Gold & Silver offers both operational improvement potential and leverage to silver prices, which they believe could reach $35-40 per ounce. With a 100-day track record showing tangible operational improvements and strong technical progress underground, the company is executing a proven playbook in a sector where consolidation continues to reduce investment options, making Americas Gold & Silver an increasingly rare opportunity in the silver mining space.View Americas Gold and Silver's company profile: https://www.cruxinvestor.com/companies/americas-gold-silver-corporationSign up for Crux Investor: https://cruxinvestor.com

Navigating the complex terrain of taekwondo politics requires more than just technical skill—it demands resilience against systems that sometimes work against their own athletes. In this revealing conversation, Coach Lee joins the Warehouse 15 podcast to share his perspective as both an Olympic coach and someone who's experienced the double standards prevalent in USA Taekwondo. The episode uncovers the controversial selection process for the upcoming Grand Prix Challenge in North Carolina, originally designed for athletes ranked outside the top 70 but now opened to everyone—yet mysteriously capped at just 50 participants. This limitation has forced countries to implement their own selection criteria, resulting in questionable decisions that appear to favor certain athletes through carefully timed qualification periods and subjective standards. Most troubling is how these politics trickle down to affect junior athletes. Coach Jennings shares a heartbreaking story of a parent who declined his coaching assistance for fear that association might harm their child's standing with USA Taekwondo—evidence of a culture where technical expertise takes a backseat to political alignments. Meanwhile, certain officials face no consequences for behavior that would result in severe punishment for others. The hosts compare American taekwondo's struggles with Europe's thriving programs, highlighting how geographical and funding challenges in the Pan American region have contributed to declining participation while European camps continue to grow. Yet despite these obstacles, success stories emerge from alternative development pathways like the TOPS program, which has produced athletes now qualifying for national teams and international competitions. What shines through this candid discussion is the unwavering passion these coaches maintain despite the challenges. As they put it: "We're still here, we're still giving, we're still mentoring." Their commitment to developing athletes and improving the sport transcends the politics that threaten to overshadow what makes taekwondo great—the opportunity to cultivate excellence regardless of who you know or which political lines you toe.

Ain't no stoppin' us now this week as we lay down the indoor soccer turf and roll out the red carpet for one of the Major Indoor Soccer League's steeliest defenders and long-time St. Louis Steamers fan favorite Carl Rose. Known best for his seven stellar seasons (1979-86) with the MISL's most commercially successful franchise, Rose actually began his pro indoor career along with the debut of the league itself (1978-79) as a member of the inaugural title-winning New York Arrows.   A two-time indoor All-Star, Rose earlier plied his soccer trade outdoors with the Canadian National Soccer League's Toronto Emerald - including call ups for the nation's 1975 Pan-American and 1976 Olympic squads, alongside future NASL & MISL teammates Jack Brand, Bob Bolitho, Peter Roe, Tino Lettieri, Wes McLeod, and Jimmy McLoughlin. We tackle all of that and lots more - including Rose's challenges overcoming a serious career-ending injury and becoming a standout youth coach in St. Louis - as well as his hot takes on the state of the game in the US. His new memoir "A Resilient Spirit" is a great read, and is available wherever good books are found (or the link below!). + + +  SUPPORT THE SHOW:  Buy Us a Coffee: https://ko-fi.com/goodseatsstillavailable "Good Seats" Merch: https://www.teepublic.com/?ref_id=35106 SPONSOR THANKS (AND SUPPORT THE SHOW!): Old School Shirts.com (10% off promo code: GOODSEATS) https://oldschoolshirts.com/goodseats Royal Retros (10% off promo code: SEATS): https://www.503-sports.com?aff=2 Yinzylvania (20% off promo code: GOODSEATSSTILLAVAILABLE): https://yinzylvania.com/GOODSEATSSTILLAVAILABLE   BUY THE BOOK (AND SUPPORT THE SHOW!): "A Resilient Spirit" (2024): https://amzn.to/4guvJDI FIND AND FOLLOW: Website: https://goodseatsstillavailable.com/ Bluesky: https://bsky.app/profile/goodseatsstillavailable.com X/Twitter: https://twitter.com/GoodSeatsStill YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@goodseatsstillavailable Threads: https://www.threads.net/@goodseatsstillavailable Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/goodseatsstillavailable/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/GoodSeatsStillAvailable/

Send us a textIn this episode we learn about the life of "Star Trek" creator Gene Roddenberry, who was a pilot for Pan Am from 1945 to 1948. Then we will be joined by a very special guest, George Takei, a legendary actor, NY Times Best Selling author, and activist. He knew “Star Trek” creator and Pan Am pilot Gene Roddenberry well for over 25 years playing Mr. Sulu in the 1966 television show “Star Trek” and six subsequent feature films. George will share his personal insights into the Roddenberry philosophy, memories of living in a Japanese American internment camp during World War II, working in Hollywood as an actor, and how he became a pop culture icon. His latest book, Rhymes With Takei, will be released on June 17, 2025 and can be pre-ordered. In the early hours of June 19, 1947, Pan Am Clipper Eclipse, a Lockheed L-049 Constellation, crashed in the Syrian desert killing 15 people. Third Officer Gene Roddenberry was traveling as a passenger and became the senior officer after the flight crew was killed. He took charge of the crash site, organized and helped survivors, and sought help. After they were rescued, he decided he didn't want to fly anymore and resigned from Pan Am almost a year later on May 15, 1948 to pursue his dream of writing, particularly for the new medium of television. For more information on Roddenberry's life, we encourage you to read Star Trek Creator: The Authorized Biography of Gene Roddenberry by David Alexander. From Flying Boats to Jumbo Jets after listening to this installment. On March 29, 1939, the Yankee Clipper made history and took off from Baltimore to Europe under the command of Captain Harold Gray. On this inspection flight, the clipper traveled to the Azores, Lisbon, Marseilles, Southampton, and Foynes and back. On June 17, 1939, Pan American arranged for a special flight for 16 members of the press departing from Port Washington on the Atlantic Clipper; a brilliant marketing and public relations strategy for the airline. This press flight is historically and culturally significant because the radio reporters on board reported live at an altitude of 10,000 feet over the Atlantic Ocean to listeners all over the country tuned into their radio sets with great interest. The cost for a one-way ticket to Europe was $375 (that's about $8,500 in 2024 money adjusted for inflation) or $675 roundtrip (which is over $15,000 today). There are no original Boeing 314 flying boats in existence today. However, the Foynes Flying Boat Museum in Foynes, Ireland ahs an impressive full-scale replica of the Yankee Clipper you can tour with every detail accurately recreated. The Records of Pan American World Airways Inc. are part of the Special Collections of the Richter Library of the University of Miami. Jim Abbott is an University of Michigan Baseball Hall of Famer and veteran MLB pitcher known for being born with one hand. His parents never treated him any differently and taught him to live independently and joyfully. Growing up, Jim played multiple sports and joined his high school football team as quarterback, but he ultimately chose baseball when he went to University of Michigan. As a kid, Jim's dad worked with him to improve on speed and technique, perfecting what's now known as the Abbott switch. While pitching, Jim would balance his glove on his right wrist, where the arm ends, pitching with his left arm. When fielding, he'd quickly switch the glove to his left hand. Despite having offers to play professionally out of high school, Jim opted to attend University of Michigan where he earned the Golden Spikes Award. 1988, Jim's junior year at University of Michigan, proved to be an exciting one as he won Big Ten Athlete of the Year, signed with the Angels, played in the Pan American games, defeating Cuba in the finals, AND helped lead the US Olympic baseball team to gold at  the summer games in Seoul, South Korea. After playing with the Angels for four seasons, he was traded to the Yankees, where he and his wife navigated big city life as a young couple. In 1993, Jim famously threw a no-hitter against the Cleveland Indians, and the season was halted the following year due to the MLB strike. He eventually signed with the White Sox as a free agent and then re-signed with the Angels in 1996. Jim discusses his struggles through his professional career and how he had to meet some deeply-buried fears head-on to realize and appreciate that there's much more to him as a person than playing in the MLB. Jim retired from baseball in '97 and unlocked his passion for sharing his story to encourage others to persevere and overcome seemingly impossible challenges. mentordna.ioLinkedIn

On the latest episode of Voice of the Mountains, Steve is joined by one of the most accomplished young climbers on the planet, Sasha DiGiulian. Sasha fell in love with the sport at her older brother's birthday party at a climbing gym when she was six years old. Within a year, she was competing and by the time she graduated from high school, she was red, pointing 5.14. She continued climbing while a student at Columbia University and rattled off several U.S. and Pan-American sport climbing championships, adding a world championship gold medal in the all around in 2011. Sasha has dozens of first free ascents around the world to her name and however impressive Sasha is on the rock, she may be even more impressive off of it. She's a filmmaker, an activist and an author. Like so many climbers, Sasha has firsthand knowledge of the sport's inherent dangers and tragedies, which she bravely shares. And like too many women in our sport, Sasha has had unfortunate firsthand experiences with some of the chauvinistic gatekeeping, which sadly is still prevalent in climbing as well as in our wider culture. Steve and Sasha explore Sasha's unique role in the climbing world and the dualities she has discovered throughout her career. If you'd like to learn more about Voice of the Mountains, check out the website: https://uphillathlete.com/voiceofthemountains/Or visit us at uphillathlete.com
