What is my planning process for a new year? It's a question I get asked so often in the weeks leading up to New Years, and today I want to share my personal method with you. The first step is to dive deep into the data and then ask myself: has this service or offering given me joy, or has it stolen my joy? Any service that robs me of joy is is one I should probably get rid of. After all, if I don't adore what I'm doing, how can I provide the best experience for my clients? The next step is to dive into my finances with a critical eye, so I can work out if I need to tweak my marketing or leverage our mailing list more effectively. The third stage involves a series of questions linked to joy, energy, and time. It's about deciding what to continue, discard, or initiate. So, grab a moment to review your progress over the year. Shed what doesn't serve you and embrace collaborations, new ideas, and growth. If you want to have an amazing year, then you have to have a big vision for what is going to drive your success. This episode explores the big questions that you should ask yourselves in order for you to be able to have that perfect vision for your new year.An area that can help you put your vision together easily is reflection. Reflection is the pathway to progress and understanding and reflecting on last year's success can help you to develop this year's vision. This means you must look back in order for you to look ahead. Then you will be able to define your vision for the next year. The challenge is that if you continue to keep things status quo then you're not growing, you're not taking risk and you are staying stagnant. And the whole goal of creating a vision and having defined actions in place to meet your goals is for you to push yourself forward, always be learning, always be growing, always be expanding.I hope that this podcast helps you to develop your vision quickly and start to think of the goals that are going to be creating that pathway for your success in the new year.Links and ResourcesPlan Your Year WorkshopThank you so much for listening, until next time, stay on purpose!Support the show

What is it about a new year that sends me deep into my productivity feels? ‘Tis the (well-marketed) season for shiny new projects over thoughtful annual assessment. For tidal waves of bigger! better! concepts vs. gentler tides of introspection. So, who else besides me needs a life vest to keep from drowning under a productivity deluge? Truth: I have a complicated relationship with productivity. Sarah Steckler feels our pain. She's a productivity strategist and educator who helps folks bring more intention and awareness to their personal, professional, and creative mindsets via courses, planners, and weekly newsletters. Sarah's also the host of the Mindful Productivity Podcast, on which she breaks down proven productivity skills and entrepreneurial organization strategies into totally doable, sustainable habits. Sarah reminds us to take the smaller steps when we're feeling overwhelmed by productivity adrenaline, especially the tasks that have seemingly little direct impact on our larger aspirations. Eventually, they will. Being more productive doesn't necessarily mean doing more stuff, says Sarah. “It's doing less, more effectively, right?” MENTIONED IN THIS EPISODE PE079: Better goal setting for podcasters with Kelly Covert CONNECT WITH SARAH STECKLER Website Podcast Instagram Twitter Facebook *** Get the full show notes including links to shows and episodes referenced at: https://www.podcastenvy.com I'd love to hear your thoughts and questions! Happy new year, y'all! We're excited to be back for 2023 with a great lineup. This episode we've got two amazing guests talking to us about being healthy, and finding happiness in the new year. First, we check in with the fabulous Ms. Patricia Greenberg AKA The Fitness Gourmet. She's the author of four healthy-eating cookbooks including "Eat Well, Live Well, Age Well," and she's here to talk to us about the importance of staying active as we mature. We talk about how to be healthy beyond just trying to lose weight, we cover some really delicious salad and veggie soup recipes, and we discuss what the heck a microbiome is and why it's so important to stay hydrated as we age. Then we talk about something Papa knows nothing about, but is all too interested in; Cosplay! We talk to Bill Burns, the man y'all probably know as the uncanny Walt Disney cosplayer from his 2022 viral video, where he dressed up as Walt himself and went around the Disney parks bringing joy to everyone around him. We chat about what inspired him to don the Disney garb and go meet Mickey, who filmed the video that has now been viewed millions of times, what cosplay conventions we can go to, and what it was like for Bill to go from an unknown cosplayer to having people cry with joy seeing him as Walt.Thank you to our family of amazing sponsors! What do you want to accomplish this year? Where do you want to be a year from now? For many of us, as soon as we say: "Happy New Year!" we feel the pressure to set resolutions for this year related to our health, personal or professional life. But simply saying: "I want to lose weight this year," notes Host Annette Hines, sets us up for failure because we have not created a specific, attainable objectives to make this desire a reality. In this episode, Hines guides listeners through the process of setting and achieving SMART goals. The acronym SMART stands for: specific, measurable, achievable, realistic, timely. If your goal has all five of these elements, then your ability to achieve the goal dramatically increases. Listeners will be able to relate to Hines' personal journey of learning how to find the goals that really resonate personally when struggling with the day-to-day life routines that can make visioning for the future challenging. She shares strategies to ensure that you will be able to predict progress, prioritize efforts, and attain what is realistic for you. So, what are you waiting for? Grab a notebook as you listen to write some notes about the types of specific, measurable, achievable, realistic, and timely goals you will achieve in 2023. One of Hines' goals that she has been making a reality is her Special Needs Academy, which is a combination of online courses and coaching programs. Her signature program, Special Needs Advocacy and Planning (SNAP) offers a group coaching program that starts on January 18! Check it out online: enroll.specialneedsfamilyservices.com

“If I could turn back time!” (a little Cher moment, lol) Unfortunately we can't, and probably wouldn't be good if we could. What we can do is try to stay more connected with our family in this new year, and we can do that through planning. As a blended family, we can have a lot of people we need to keep in the “know”. If we don't, it leaves room for miscommunication, which in return can cause frustration, hurt, and being upset with each other. If our goal is to keep our family close and not apart, then good planning strategies can help us do that. We share what that can look like for yourself, with your spouse, and with the whole family. “If you aim at nothing, you'll always hit nothing.” -Zig Ziglar Good planning strategies give us that ability to aim at keeping our family together. What intentions did you fulfill in 2019? Where did you fall short? Did unexpected circumstances change your plans? As driven, high achievers, we want to be in control of life's outcomes. But life doesn't always go according to plan. In fact, the most rewarding parts of life are often the most unpredictable. So, how do we plan for a new year knowing we can't know everything? How can we set intentions without getting attached to a particular outcome? Today, we are walking you through our process for reflecting on 2019 and creating a vision for 2020. We look back at the last 12 months, sharing what we learned about tapping into a new level of commitment and welcoming the cycles of life—even when it's painful. And we get real about the challenges we faced in this year's planning process. We introduce you to the Life Purpose Reading that informed our process and discuss our personal intentions for the new year, describing how unknowns (like becoming a mom!) shift the way we plan and why it's crucial to appreciate action in ALL its forms. Listen in for insight around focusing on who you want to BE versus what you want to DO and learn our framework for setting intentions in a way that embraces the unexpected. Themes explored in this week's episode: The distinction between intentions and resolutions How Tegan's intention to be all-in in 2019 helped her tap into another level of commitment Katie's transformative and painful year of rest, reflection and healing + what it taught her about welcoming the cycles of life The Life Purpose Readings we used in the reflection and planning process How being an expectant mother shifted the way Tegan thought about planning + the challenge she faces in freeing herself from attachments The temptation to judge or rank your actions and why it's crucial to appreciate action in all its forms Focusing on who you want to BE versus what you want to DO Katie's big intentions for becoming a next-level speaker and author in 2020 Tegan's intentions around postpartum healing, practicing mindfulness and fostering joy and fun in her marriage The power in reflecting on why you didn't fulfill certain intentions Overcoming destructive historical patterns of limitation Resources from this episode: Look behind the curtain at the Life & Leadership YouTube Channel Learn more about life cycles with Martha Beck Access Dr. Robert Waldon's Life Purpose Readings Read Tegan's blog re: questions for reflection Discover Tegan's year-end guided meditation Revisit previous years' episodes: Do Less and Be More in 2019 and How to Reflect on 2017 and Plan For 2018 We would love to hear from you!
