Rapamycin is changing what's possible in fertility treatment, and in this episode, I'm breaking down exactly how. Originally discovered in the soil of Easter Island and long used by the longevity community to extend healthspan, rapamycin is now showing real promise for improving egg quality, increasing blastocyst formation rates, and helping women over 40 (even over 45) get pregnant.  Joining me is Dr. Steve Palter, founder and medical and scientific director of Gold Coast IVF in Woodbury, New York. We cover the science of how it works at the cellular level, the landmark placebo-controlled trial out of China that gave us published data for the first time, my own case series accepted to PCRS, and how I'm now using Rapamycin for egg freezing patients, not just last-resort IVF cases. We also get discuss the Vibrant Trial on ovarian aging, dosing protocols, and why resistance training and protein intake matter for fertility and longevity.  In this episode, we cover: • What rapamycin is, where it comes from, and why it's become the darling of the longevity world • How rapamycin may improve egg quality by regulating protein synthesis and cellular repair in aging ovarian cells • The landmark placebo-controlled trial out of China showing significantly higher pregnancy rates in poor-prognosis patients • My own case series (including patients over 45 getting pregnant) accepted to PCRS • Who is (and isn't) a good candidate, and how to have that conversation with your doctor • Why dosing protocols are still evolving and what current regimens look like • The underrated role of resistance training and protein intake for fertility, PCOS, and longevity Read the full show notes, and find the full length episode here. Jarom Woodbury is a professional MMA fighter turned physical therapist, regional director at OSR Physical Therapy, and a father of three. In this episode he breaks down how he built a "Warrior Code," a set of seven family values lived out through weekly meetings, daily habits, and hard conversations. Will and Jarom unpack the Point Story Lesson behind real values. The point: a value is not a word on a wall, it is what you do daily. The story: Jarom's pro fight where he got caught in a chokehold, heard his "inner coward" tell him to tap out, and chose to fight back instead. The lesson: the only true failure is quitting, and every leader, parent, or business owner can build a system that turns belief into action. They cover the inverted U principle and managing arousal under pressure, why accountability means clarity not just pressure, how to run a weekly values meeting with kids or a team, and why admitting imperfection builds more trust than pretending to have none.Key Takeaways:Values are actions, not words. A value only counts if it shows up in daily habits. The Woodbury Warrior Code. Jarom's family lives by seven values: Integrity, Honesty, Honor, Compassion, Courage, Loyalty, and Respect.Repetition makes values stick. Jarom calls it paramount. You can't set a value once and expect people to internalize it. The inverted U principle. Performance rises with arousal up to a point, then declines. Too relaxed and you underperform, too keyed up and you make costly mistakes. Accountability means clarity, not just pressure. It's not only checking someone's numbers. It's making sure expectations are clear, realistic, and understood, then helping people hit them. The inner coward. Mid-fight, choked from behind, Jarom heard a voice telling him to tap out and that no one would blame him. He calls that voice the inner coward, the part of all of us that wants the easy way out.The only true failure is quitting. Quitting is the only outcome that closes the door for good.Lead by example or it doesn't count. Waking up early, doing the hard thing, showing up consistently is the real teaching.Admitting imperfection builds trust. What matters is owning it, apologizing, and showing them how to ask for forgiveness.Gratitude rewires your mindset. A short nightly gratitude journal, just two to five minutes, helps program the subconscious toward noticing and seeking more success.Send us Fan MailVirtual Rockstars specialize in helping support or replace all non-clinical roles.Learn how a Virtual Rockstar can help scale your physical therapy practice.Subscribe here to our completely free Stress-Free PT Newsletter for your weekly dose of joy.

What does it take to bring ballet to a place where it doesn't exist yet? Today's guest, Lauren, found herself living in Islamabad, Pakistan — a city of over a million people with no ballet studio — and decided to build one herself. In this episode, Lauren shares how a love story brought her from Fargo, North Dakota to the capital of Pakistan, and how her lifelong connection to ballet eventually led her to found the Islamabad School of Ballet. We talk about how she got started teaching out of a converted storage room, the seminar she put together to introduce ballet to an unfamiliar audience (and the overwhelming response she didn't expect), the logistical challenges of building a school without the infrastructure most of us take for granted, and how she navigated it all with creativity, persistence, and a willingness to start imperfectly. We also talk about her school's very first performance — a 30-minute adaptation of Swan Lake — the moment her students stepped onstage, and the way ballet is transforming confidence in dancers who are discovering it for the very first time.In this episode, we cover:Her non-linear ballet journey: from childhood classes in North Dakota to returning as an adultThe spark that led her to start the Islamabad School of BalletHow she introduced ballet in a community where it doesn't really existThe logistical challenges of building a studio without existing infrastructureHow word of mouth and Instagram grew the school to 45–50 students in less than a year! The school's first performance: a 30-minute adaptation of Swan LakeHow ballet is impacting students who are discovering it for the first timeHow she adapted classical ballets to suit her studentsWhat she would tell anyone who wants to start something new but is held back by imposter syndromeHow she's giving back through monthly donations to children's organizations in Pakistan

Keen On Democracy
Why Dario Amodei Might Be the 21st Century's First Real Leader

Keen On Democracy

“Whether you like Amodei or not, at least he's a leader.” — Andrew KeenDario Amodei is the most interesting man in America right now. Not because he runs a $500 billion company or because he's suing the Trump administration or because Anthropic's Claude topped the iPhone charts. But because he's doing something nobody else in Silicon Valley has the balls to do: he's acting like a human being in public. He has principles, he states them, and he accepts the consequences. That's leadership. It shouldn't be remarkable. In 2026, it is.This week's That Was The Week is about how America both loves and hates AI. An NBC poll found 60–70% of Americans are concerned about AI — making it even less popular than the Democratic Party (quite an achievement). A hundred planned data centers have been cancelled because of local protests. 10,000 authors published an anti AI manifesto at the London Book Fair this week. Each week, in contrast, a billion people used ChatGPT, but these users often seem oblivious to its weaknesses. So Keith's AI-generated video for the show was, by universal agreement (including his own), not going to win an Oscar tomorrow. Except for Most Sloppy AI generated video.Every road this week led back to Amodei who is anything but sloppy. He's become a Rorschach test for the entire industry. Tech progressives Kara Swisher and Scott Galloway are lauding him. The MAGA crowd — including David Sacks, Trump's AI czar — on the All In podcast are doing the opposite. Keith thinks Dario is a naive CEO making bad business decisions — comparing him to his own doomed battle in the late Nineties against Microsoft's Steve Ballmer. It's a fair point. Should a tech CEO really be setting AI policy? Keith's answer is no — that's for people like David Sacks appointed by executive, legislative, and judicial branches. I'm not so sure. In an America defined by its dysfunctional political system, we need leaders like Amodei to take ethical stands. If not, then who?The IPO race this year between Anthropic, OpenAI and xAI makes this particularly interesting. I wonder whether Amodei might use the IPO itself to force a public debate that nobody in government is willing to have. Not just about guardrails or weapons — but about what kind of society AI is building and who gets to decide what does and doesn't get used. Musk, by publicly embracing white racists and other groups of hate, is making his politics clear. Sam Altman, as always, is wearing every hat simultaneously. Amodei, in contrast, knows his hat. Rather than MAGA, it should say: The Most Interesting Man in America. He's got my vote. Even if he's not running for office. Five Takeaways•       AI Is Less Popular Than the Democrats: An NBC poll found 60–70% of Americans are concerned about AI. A hundred data centres have been cancelled due to local protests. 10,000 authors published an anti-AI manifesto at the London Book Fair. Close to a billion people use ChatGPT each week — but the haters are the non-users, and they outnumber the lovers by a wide margin.•       Amodei Is the 21st Century's First Real Leader: He's suing the Trump administration. He's refusing to let Claude be used for autonomous weapons. He's accepting the business consequences. Keith thinks he's naive. I think he's the only person in Silicon Valley acting like a human being in public. The debate between us is the show.•       Keith Compares Amodei to His Own Doomed Battle Against Ballmer: In the late Nineties, Keith fought Microsoft with RealNames and lost. He sees Amodei on the same trajectory — noble, principled, already finished. I compared Keith to Pete Hegseth declaring the Iranian regime defeated. The MAGA crowd on All In, including Trump's AI czar David Sacks, agree with Keith. That alone should give him pause.•       The IPO Race Will Force the Debate: Anthropic, OpenAI and xAI are all expected to go public this year. Amodei could use the IPO to force a conversation about what kind of society AI is building — a conversation nobody in government is willing to have. Musk is making his politics clear by embracing white racists. Altman is wearing every hat. Amodei knows his.•       In the Absence of Leadership, Fear Thrives: Keith's best point of the week. Nobody is setting AI policy. The politicians are clowns. The tech CEOs are children. In the vacuum, fear wins. Amodei is trying to fill it. Whether he succeeds or not, at least he's trying. That's more than anyone else can say. About the GuestKeith Teare is the publisher of That Was The Week and co-founder of SignalRank. Today, Leah speaks with David Amitrano, the owner of Midwest All-Star Wrestling, a Minnesota-based, Native-owned independent wrestling organization in Woodbury. He is originally from Ely, Minnesota and is a citizen of the Bois Forte Band of Chippewa. He and wife Brittney have four kids at home. He got into wrestling as the CFO of Women of Nations, a women and children's domestic violence and sexual assault shelter. He's been there for over a decade. It's a 44-bed shelter for Native women and children but also women and children of all nations. It was founded in 1982. Located in St. Paul, it is one of the largest shelters of its kind not on reservation land.  In 2017, David was at work when he got a call from Jesse Ventura. He had seen a video about Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women. The shelter had been mentioned in the program. Jesse suggested doing a fundraiser and put him in contact with an owner of Midwest All Star Wrestling. David didn't know much about wrestling at the time, but they held their first wrestling fundraiser at the American Indian Center in 2017. It was a success and ever since they've done it every year. After the fundraiser, he became an owner of Midwest All-Star Wrestling, which distinguishes itself as one of the organizations to highlight women's wrestling. His daughter is a huge wrestling fan. And one day she said, "How come there are no girl wrestlers?" So, he did something about it.-----Hosts / Producers: Leah Lemm, Cole Premo Editor: Britt Aamodt Editorial support: Emily Krumberger Mixing & mastering: Chris Harwood -----For the latest episode drops and updates, follow us on social media. instagram.com/ampersradioinstagram.com/mnnativenewsfacebook.com/MNNativeNewsNever miss a beat. In this episode of The Pediatric Pharmacist Review, we explore the phenomenon of seasonal affective disorder (SAD) and its relevance to children, adolescents, and families. Our guest, Tim Horton, is a seasoned psychiatric nurse‑practitioner (APRN, CNP) and founder of PeopleFirst Clinic in Woodbury, Minnesota, where he specializes in holistic, medication‑management and therapy‑integrated care for youth and adults. With his unique background in pediatric mental health, patient‑centered approaches, and collaborative provider work, Tim brings deep insight into how biological and environmental factors converge in seasonal depression—and what practical actions caregivers and clinicians can take to mitigate its impact. Key Discussion Points: Biological & Environmental Contributors: We unpack how changes in daylight exposure, circadian rhythm shifts, neurotransmitter variations (serotonin, melatonin), and geographic/seasonal factors contribute to SAD in children and teens. Lifestyle & Environmental Interventions: Tim and I discuss actionable strategies such as structured light‑exposure (dawn simulators, 10,000 lux boxes), daily outdoor activity, consistent sleep schedules, and nutritional supports (timing of meals, nutrient‑dense foods, healthy fats) to reduce symptom severity. Treatment Options & Efficacy: We review standard of care for SAD—starting with behavioral and lifestyle measures, then progressing to light therapy and pharmacologic treatment (SSRIs, SNRIs, augmentation) when needed, including considerations unique to pediatric populations. Vitamin D and Seasonal Depression: We examine the evidence linking vitamin D deficiency with increased SAD risk, discuss screening thresholds in younger patients, supplementation strategies, and how this fits into a broader preventive mindset. Preventive Measures Ahead of Winter: Tim outlines a pre‑winter readiness plan—adjusting indoor lighting, optimizing outdoor daylight exposure, establishing routine exercise, reinforcing healthy diet patterns, and monitoring early warning signs for a proactive response. Misconceptions and Under‑Recognition: We address common myths—such as SAD only occurring in extreme northern latitudes, or that “it's just the blues” and will self‑resolve—highlighting how under‑recognition in pediatric settings can delay helpful intervention.
