As we are drawn in, we are afforded opportunities to question and refine the Convictions of our own unique experience.Preached by Kevin Makins and Nina Schuurman-Drenth on May 25 2025, in the Eucharist Church Sanctuary.

The Good Life in Babylon concludes on the other end of the Biblical cannon: The Book of Revelation, like the Book of Genesis, offers us a peek behind the curtain at the patterns that shape reality. There was another sermon recording failure this week but, honestly, sometimes it's best to let the sermon be the sermon and the podcast be the podcast. We enter into the back third of our sermon series "The Good Life in Babylon" with the other half of the coin. Yes, God makes space for faithful compromise, but there is also faithful suffering. Both are necessary. How do we live faithfully in the City? We hold the line. Recorded in the Eucharist Study, November 13 2024.

This Sunday our podcast recording failed (which was so thematically fitting) and so we've had to once again fling this sermon into the heavens, with the hope it will be caught by a high place and sent back down towards the earth where you can listen to it, on your device, whenever it is convenient to you. All that to say, this week we're exploring the Tower of Babel, a story that reveals much to us about the shape of a city, the power that comes with height, and the cost of that power. Hopefully it will offer you a helpful framework for discerning our own times. Preached by Kevin Makins in the Eucharist Sanctuary, September 25 2024.

Our Fall sermon sermon series "The Good Life in Babylon" will walk through the idea of "the City" in the Biblical imagination. These nine teachings will take us from Genesis to Revelation and offer us plenty to chew on as we seek to live faithfully in these strange times. "The First City" tells the story of Cain, who murders his brother and is banished from his homeland. It is an epic myth that lays at the foundation of the Biblical story, and one that offers us a powerful pattern through which we can understand the City in it's many manifestations. We hope you'll listen along to all nine sermons, and find yourself inspired to live a good life in your own place.
