Kate Trefry is a key creative force behind Stranger Things. Joining the show as a writer in Season 2, she's been with the series for over seven years, and her work has helped shape the mythology, tone, and lore of the town of Hawkins — and all of its beloved (and haunted) inhabitants. Her latest venture takes the franchise into uncharted territory: the stage. Kate wrote Stranger Things: The First Shadow, a theatrical prequel set in 1959 Hawkins that blends psychological horror with jaw-dropping effects. The First Shadow is one of the most incredible theater experiences I've ever had — its a mind-blowing fusion of stagecraft, horror, and storytelling that feels like witnessing real magic unfold in real time. So if you're in New York City or London's West End, run — don't walk. This show absolutely blew me away.In this episode, Kate gets into her career history, including her ten-year struggle in Hollywood after which she was making snowcones before landing the writing gig of a lifetime on Stranger Things. She also dives into her collaborative process with the Duffer Brothers and the extremely challenging, grueling, and fascinating experience of adapting Stranger Things to the stage. On today's episode of The Nick Taylor Horror Show, here — without further ado — is Kate Trefry.Key TakeawaysIgnorance is bliss.Despite having written for Stranger Things for over five years, Kate had never written a play before — and that turned out to be an advantage. Unburdened by the typical constraints of stagecraft, she approached The First Shadow like she would an episode or film: big set pieces, impossible visuals, cinematic pacing. Instead of limiting her vision, the creative team encouraged it — telling her to write whatever she wanted and leave it to them to figure out how to make it work live. The result is a show that doesn't just adapt Stranger Things for the stage — it redefines what live theatre can do.There is no writing, only rewriting.Throughout the development of The First Shadow, Trefry wrote hundreds of drafts. During the workshop and preview process, she sat with live audiences, watching for moments when people shifted, coughed, or lost focus — then made adjustments accordingly. Kate believes the magic starts to happen around draft six — when emotion, structure, and theme finally begin to align. Her process always involves discovery through multiple rewrites, often transforming scenes completely from their original form. For her, the key is getting to the end of your first draft as quickly as possible — so you can start rewriting. And then rewrite again. And again.Authenticity opens doors.Kate's path to Stranger Things began not with a polished pitch, but with brutal, unfiltered honesty. After years grinding in Hollywood, she took a call with the Duffer Brothers and told them point-blank that “Hollywood is a cesspool” and “writing is a nightmare” — not exactly go-to lines for landing a job. But to her surprise, they loved her candor. That authenticity — combined with clear talent — landed her in the Stranger Things writers' room the following week. The takeaway: showing up as your real self, especially in an industry full of rehearsed personalities, can resonate more than trying to be what you think others want.Show NotesMovies DiscussedStranger Things (Netflix)Stranger Things: The First Shadow (West End & Broadway)Behind the Curtain: Stranger Things The First Shadow (Documentary)Game of ThronesThe ShiningHarry PotterLord of the RingsBooks & ProjectsSave the...

MEI Senior Fellow Charles Lister joins hosts Alistair Taylor and Matthew Czekaj to discuss the Trump administration's dramatic reversal of four decades of US policy toward Syria. Following President Trump's May 2025 meeting with Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa and the issuance of a new general license and 180-day waiver of Caesar Act sanctions, the episode explores the implications of this policy shift. What does this mean for Syria's recovery and reconstruction? How are regional actors like Turkey, Israel, and the Gulf states responding? And what are the risks and opportunities ahead for US-Syria relations? Lister unpacks the diplomatic, economic, and security dimensions of this major policy development and what it signals for Syria's evolving role in the region. This episode was recorded on May 27, 2025.

Fear of the unfamiliar is a powerful force. And when it comes to autism, we don't only have a knowledge problem, we have a courage problem. We've all seen or experienced the harm that comes with labels, bullying, and social exclusion. But reflexively protecting ourselves keeps us locked in a cycle of ignoring the need for real education beyond tropes or inspiration porn and keeps us from normalizing the varied needs and supports for autistics instead of perpetuating these supports as burdens or flaws. So, how can we, as leaders, challenge ourselves to create a world where everyone is welcome—even those who don't fit the mold? We invite autistic voices to the table and platform them in the spaces we live, work, and lead. And we face our fears and discomforts, without getting bogged down with perfectionism and focusing on simply doing the next right thing. When our director of Health and Human Services is using his position to spread narratives about autistic people that are not only inaccurate, but dangerous, we have to embrace and speak up for inclusion. Inclusion isn't always easy or efficient, but it makes us more prosperous as a community, and courage grows becomes a contagion.Today's conversation will help you consider how we can move past toxic, dehumanizing views about autistic people and start leading with more compassion and understanding.Eric Garcia is the senior Washington correspondent for The Independent who authors its Inside Washington newsletter. He is also a columnist for MSNBC and the author of We're Not Broken: Changing the Autism Conversation. Have you ever wondered what's actually holding you back from changing your most frustrating habits? As a natural problem-solver and detective at heart, I've discovered that our most persistent habits aren't just behaviors to be modified, they're symptoms of deeper burdens our internal parts are carrying. Today, I'm sharing a powerful framework that offers genuine hope for lasting change. The concept of the Unburdened System, beautifully illustrated by Mariel Pastor, provides a north star for what's possible when we heal the root causes of our habits. This isn't about quick fixes or surface-level strategies—it's about understanding how our internal parts can transform when freed from the emotional burdens they've been carrying. Have you ever thought of how much energy it takes to be resentful? And all the emotions that are connected with resentment--the shock, hurt, shame, guilt, and many other feelings that are so draining! It may seem harder to face what's going on in our relationship with someone else in the moment, and it's easier to allow the situation to fester, allowing resentment to be created and grow. We can actually learn how to choose discomfort instead of resentment and benefit from that choice! Suze Gadol Anderson lives in Eugene, Oregon. The stakes are always high for procurement, but at mission-driven non-profits like the American Cancer Society, procurement is working to – quite literally – help save lives. In this powerful fourth episode of “Buy: The Way…To Purposeful Procurement,” co-hosts Philip Ideson, Founder of Art of Procurement, and Rich Ham, CEO of Fine Tune, speak with Brian Kyle, Vice President of Supply Chain and Accounts Payable at the American Cancer Society, to explore what enterprise procurement can learn from mission-first organizations like ACS. Brian shares the kind of transformative mindset shift that happens when you transition to a nonprofit environment where every donor dollar is stretched as far as it can possibly go to directly impact the cause – in this case, the fight against cancer. He also explains how mission-driven environments create a kind of gravitational pull across the entire organization – suppliers included – where everyone is laser focused on the same set of goals and success metrics. Brian breaks down how this coalescence around a shared mission to help save millions of lives creates unprecedented levels of collaboration and collaborative decision making, engagement, trust, relationship building, and value beyond savings. The procurement team at ACS represents the essence of purposeful procurement and offers a tangible example of practices and perspectives that even private businesses can adopt to elevate their impact and find purpose in their work. The Christian race is not won by looking back. In Philippians 3:13-14, Paul urges us to forget what is behind and press on toward the prize—a life fully focused on Christ. While remembering God's past faithfulness brings gratitude and growth, dwelling on past failures, sins, or regrets can hinder our progress. Jesus warned against looking back, as seen in Lot's wife and the Israelites longing for Egypt. Holding onto bitterness, unforgiveness, or shame keeps us stuck, but Christ calls us to move forward in His grace. Fixing our eyes on Jesus, the champion of our faith, we run with endurance, knowing that He alone is our ultimate prize.
Today we open with our usual start to Friday, a run through Tara's Top 10 News Stories the Legacy/mainstream media likely didn't cover this week, or didn't cover properly. We immediately jump to the mid-air collision and how it's easy to jump to conclusions. However, when we look at the DEI component of this story, we keep leaning pretty firmly in that direction. We remind you that there are still bad FBI agents out there, including a name we discussed many time, Timothy Thibault. Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-NE) and Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI) reveal new documents showing, again, how biased some in the FBI were against Donald Trump. This also reminds us that Agent Brian Auten was another bad force in the FBI. While on the subject of the FBI, they continue to drag their feet on the murder of DNC operative Seth Rich. So, I pull another sound bite from Kash Patel to remind us what he plans to do to reform and reinvigorate the FBI. The soundbite of the day for Tulsi Gabbard is when Sen. Mark Kelly (D-AZ) tried to make it look like she prefers to trust Russian intelligence rather than that of the United States. What follows is a Master Class where she shows you why she is the perfect candidate for DNI. And, Sen. Eric Schmitt (R-MO) explains why Patel is perfect for Director of the FBI. They say Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned. Nicole Shanahan has openly called out Sen. Raphael Warnock (D-GA) for saying he will vote against RFK, Jr. CBS is in settlement talks with the Trump team for it's part in editing the Kamala Harris interview on 60 Minutes and interfering in the 2024 election cycle. Finally, we close with the VP's White House page being taken down, but a funny message left in it's place. Please take a moment to rate and review the show and then share the episode on social media. Pastor Craig reflects on the burdens we unwittingly carry in our lives, paralleling it to a childhood prank involving adding rocks to a friend's backpack. He emphasizes the importance of releasing these burdens to God, who is ready to carry them for us, and introduces a worship song to reinforce this message.Worship Leader Desi Whorton leads us into a song called Rest for Your Soul written and performed by Austin French
In this episode I chat with Jeanne Catanzaro, an IFS therapist, educator, and author of Unburdened Eating: Healing Relationships with Food and Body. We talk diet culture, internal critics, and the societal pressure to view our bodies as projects. Legacy burdens, cultural messaging, and our protectors shape our relationship with food and body image. Jeanne explains how healing these parts with IFS can lead to a more compassionate and Self-Led approach to eating and wellbeing. Key Takeaways: Diet culture is deeply rooted in legacy burdens; how can we begin to unburden parts influenced by societal expectations? Many of us start the day with critical voices driving us—learning to identify and soothe these critics is a key first step. Healing our relationship with food begins with curiosity, not judgment. Self-led eating involves negotiating with parts and focusing on what your body needs in the present moment. Unburdened eating is not a diet—it's about building trust with our parts and moving away from perfectionism. About Jeanne Catanzaro: Jeanne Catanzaro is an IFS therapist, educator, and author specializing in helping individuals heal their relationships with food and body. Her new book, Unburdened Eating: Healing Relationships with Food and Body, offers a compassionate guide to transforming these dynamics through an Internal Family Systems lens. In addition to her role in helping to lead the IFS Institute, she offers workshops and retreats on Unburdened Eating and IFS. www.jeannecatanzaro.com Thank you to Pisgah Coaching Institute for sponsoring this episode. _______________________________________________________________________________ Watch video Clips from select episodes on The One Inside on YouTube Follow Tammy on Instagram @ifstammy and on Facebook at The One Inside with Tammy Sollenberger. In this episode we discuss the role of Black liberalism in the US political landscape, particularly its relationship with the Democratic Party. And how Black liberalism often neglects the interests of the black working poor in service of the ruling class. We contemplate the influence of social media on political discourse and the Black elite's capturing and commodification of Black cultural expressions in service of empire at the expense of the global working-poor. We touch on Black apathy towards internationalism and passive or active support for imperialism and how this behavior of betraying the interests of the oppressed is learned domestically before being applied internationally. We touch on the petit-bourgeois character of electoral politics and how the poor are largely disappeared in mainstream political discussions and processes. Kamala Harris is a famous word salad chef, but something about this "unburdened by what has been" phrase has always bothered me. It aspires to the dumb. To those who can ignore a more accurate maxim: Past Performance is the best predictor of future results. Today's podcast will discuss the "Gen Z vote," some polling, and another lie the modern Left sells: recycling. ______________________________________________________________ Check out BETWEEN THE LINES on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@CatholicVote JOIN OUR LOCALS: https://thekyleseraphinshow.locals.com/subscribe PREPARE or REPAIR: http://PrepareLikeKyle.com (MyPatriotSupply Food Prep) Use PROMO CODE "KYLE" at these sites: http://PatriotCoolers.com/ (Tumblers & Coolers) http://MyPillow.com/Kyle (Pillows/Towels/Bedding) https://matthatjerky.com/kyle (premium Beef Jerky) http://The-Suspendables.com (Show Merch) http://ShieldArms.com - maker of the S10 and S15 magazines (Montana build firearms and accessories)
We have a VP!! In this special bonus episode Sami & V go over the background and long list of accomplishments of Harris' pick for VP, Governor of Minnesota, Tim Walz. Is he the radical that the right wants to paint him as, or just a regular guy who doesn't want to monitor your pregnancy? From his 24 years of service in Army National Guard, to being a vocal supporter of IVF and reproductive rights, we're excited to have someone so.... not weird on the ticket. It would be funny if it wasn't so damn serious, but there is a less-than-zero chance that Kamala Harris could be the President of the United States of America at literally any minute, and perhaps for four full years. The clown show and soft coup currently happening inside 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue is befitting for one of the worst presidential administrations in American political history. Kamala Harris is staggeringly unqualified to be the president, but the mainstream media is doing what they do best by rewriting history by erasing her as Biden's Border Czar, to borrow a term from the Marxist, Barack Obama, a man who understands that she has no path to the White House. It is also worth mentioning that she has had a 92% turnover rate inside her office, making it is clear that there are already major issues and everyone knows who is to blame.

Let this breath wash over you, Silencing the noise, calming the storm within. LONG PAUSE And as you continue to breathe, A silence envelops you, Cradling you into a state Where serenity is renewed. LONG PAUSE So, dwell in this quiet, With each inhale and exhale, Feel your thoughts slow down, As tranquility prevails. LONG PAUSE Now, imagine, if you will, A soft, white feather floating down towards you. It lands softly at your feet, Bringing with it purity and peace anew. PAUSE In moments, The feather lifts and touches your toes, Softening your stance, And in a tender sweep, It cools and calms. PAUSE Now, your feet and toes, Sink deeper into rest. Your connection to the earth Is softening, stress-free at best. PAUSE The feather floats gently, Reaching your shins and knees, Where it brushes away tightness, Flowing with an effortless ease. PAUSE Now, feel the feather lightly rest, In the folds of your knees, Easing any discomfort, So they flex with simplicity. PAUSE Slowly, the feather rises, To your thighs, carrying lightness, Infusing them with calm, And reducing any tightness. PAUSE Next, the feather rests Gently upon your hips, Dissolving any heaviness, With its soft, healing tips. PAUSE The feather then dances, Across your abdomen, Spreading stillness and silence, Restoring peace again. PAUSE To your core, this feather brushes, Softening the inner noise, Calming self-doubt and inner turmoil, With a quiet, soothing poise. PAUSE You pause here, Breathing in the softness, The feather's silent whispers, Comfort your body's fortress. PAUSE Now to your chest the feather floats, Easing the heart, opening wide, Healing old wounds gently, Allowing peace to reside. PAUSE The feather drifts to your shoulders and neck, Releasing burdens with its touch, So they feel light and free, Unburdened by too much. PAUSE Ascending to your throat, The feather nestles softly, Healing your voice and expressions, With tranquility and modesty. PAUSE Now, your face feels the caress Of the feather's gentle grace, Softening your gaze, And bringing peace to this space. PAUSE Lastly, the feather rises, To the crown of your head, Spreading its calm far and wide, As you lie in your bed. PAUSE And now, your whole being is like the feather, Light, floating, and bright, Hold this calm, share its silence, Into the day and throughout the night. PAUSE Sweet dreams, beautiful.

Unburdened by anything, that contentless Consciousness, that's what you are! Seeing it, realizing it, one is free, one is freedom, one is joy, one is Bliss.
