Not only are endurance athlete John Cooper and professional athlete Jacquie Godbe dating, they also both happen to be 6-time Chicago Triathlon competitors (plus many other events), AND are candidates in the MD-PhD program at Northwestern, NBD. They both met while cultivating a mutual love of medical science and endurance racing. Endurance athlete John Cooper is a decorated triathlete who has won titles at the Chicago Triathlon, New York Triathlon and more. He is working on his PhD in neuroscience, and wants to focus on specialties such as spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury and paralysis. Professional triathlete Jacquie Godbe has also become highly decorated, including winning 4th place overall in the Chicago Triathlon this past year (beating out 3 other males) and has been competing professionally domestically and internationally. She is working on her PhD in chemistry, with a specialization in the design side and research focused on Parkinson’s disease. Both share how they got to where they are, how they balance their studies with sports, and what some of their favorite post-race foods and desserts are!
Chris Mosier is a professional triathlete, All-American duathlete & 5-time member of Team USA. In this episode, he shares insights on what it’s like to be the first transgender athlete to make the men’s US National team, to be in the ESPN Body Issue and the first transgender athlete sponsored by Nike.Through his efforts, he has been able to catalyst change for the International Olympic Committee policy on transgender athletes. He also acts as a leader and mentor for those in the transgender sports community, and has helped all types of different organizations around the globe create gender-inclusive policies.
