Send us Fan MailThe Supreme Court is currently considering two major cases brought by West Virginia and Idaho which address state-level bans on transgender female students playing on girls' school sports teams. Together, these cases could determine whether states can legally exclude trans athletes from school sports nationwide. Politicians and pundits argue about fairness, biology, and the future of women's sports, but far too often the voices of transgender athletes themselves get lost in the noise. That's exactly what Anna Baeth, Ellie Roscher, and Chris Mosier are trying to change. Ellie and Chris join Sarato discuss their new and groundbreaking book Fair Game, which breaks down the myths being told through personal interviews with trans athletes and includes an informative look at the research, history, and politics of gender in sports. They explore the deeper question underneath it all: what do we really mean when we talk about fairness, and why does sports participation matter—not just for elite athletes, but for every kid who simply wants to play on a team, move their body, and belong.Special Guest: Ellie RoscherEllie Roscher is the author of Fair Game, Remarkable Rose, The Embodied Path, 12 Tiny Things, Play Like a Girl and How Coffee Saved My Life. Ellie teaches writing and yoga in Minneapolis. She was a two-sport college athlete, competing in gymnastics and softball, and went on to coach both at the rec, club, and high school level. Ellie holds an MFA in Writing from Sarah Lawrence College and an MA in Theology from Luther Seminary. Special Guest: Chris MosierChris Mosier is a trailblazing athlete, coach, and founder of TransAthlete.com, the go-to resource on transgender inclusion in sports. Many people in real estate think being a generalist is the fastest path to greatness. That couldn't be further from the truth. We see it constantly with the agents we feature on this show. Some of the biggest and most successful names in this business are the ones specializing in the smallest niches. The more you can dominate your own corner of a market, the longer you'll survive and thrive through industry shifts. In a real estate market that's filtering out the weakest agents, strength comes from specialization, not spreading yourself too thin. There are many ways to niche yourself - you can go for a specific type of property. You can choose to invest more money in marketing when everyone else is backing away, or you can focus on the platforms you use. Whatever path you take, narrowing down your focus pays off massively in this industry. In this special episode, we're highlighting 3 real estate professionals who've been winning through unique business models and niches. Rob Ellerman, Mike Smallegan and Chris Mosier share what they are doing to set themselves apart in today's real estate landscape. You'll learn: Why the lakefront living niche will always demand agents The smartest way to expand your real estate footprint How to stop hating on Zillow and use it to your advantage About Your Host Remington Ramsey is a dynamic keynote speaker, entrepreneur, and visionary in the world of real estate. I've learned that when you become everything to what a need is out there, there's no denying that people are going to magnetize towards that. -Chris Mosier The real estate landscape is competitive, and without a clear niche, it's easy to get lost in the shuffle. Many real estate professionals face the same dilemma of getting stuck in a sea of generic listings, unable to differentiate themselves or their brand. Launching a franchise, especially in a new state, is daunting enough, but focusing on a niche like lakefront properties adds another layer of complexity. But what if you could turn that niche into your biggest advantage, becoming an expert in that field? How valuable would it be to offer something truly unique that draws clients to you? Chris “The Lake Realtor” Mosier, broker and listing agent at Lake Front Living joins me to talk about her journey owning a franchise and growing it nationally and how she found her passion in lake homes. Three Things You'll Learn In This Episode Intentionality when it comes to family We need to be more intentional when it comes to what we plan and create for our families. How does this contribute to the memories they make and carry? Generalist vs. specialist If we need brain surgery, we're going to want a specialist, not a generalist. Why does the same apply when we want to purchase a lake home? Why some things aren't better done alone A lot of money and time can be wasted doing things on our own if we're not educated properly on it. Can we save time and money by asking for help? Guest Bio As the driving force behind Ohio's Premier Lakefront Realtor Brokerage, Chris Mosier's mission is to unite buyers and sellers of lakefront properties across the state. Since founding Lakefront Living Realty—The Lake Team in 2015, the brokerage has expanded to include four virtual offices located at Hoover Reservoir, Apple Valley Lake, Candlewood Lake, and Put-In-Bay. Each office is staffed with resident realtor specialists who have an intimate knowledge of their respective lakes and markets. Chris is also excited about adding Buckeye Lake and Indian Lake to the roster this season. The brokerage's membership in every MLS in the state ensures that their listings receive statewide exposure, catering to buyers who prefer to be within a 2-3 hour driving radius from their home. Their custom website simplifies the search process, focusing solely on lake homes. In 2017, Chris partnered to franchise Lakefront Living Realty International, which is now operating in 12 states and is steadily working toward a nationwide presence—one lake at a time. Chris is honored to have been recognized in Entrepreneur Magazine's Franchise 500 for 2023, a distinction achieved by less than 5% of real estate franchisors. Although not yet ranked, Chris is determined to change that in the coming year, with eyes set on global lakefront domination. It is officially Pride Month – a time to honor and celebrate the LGBTQ+ community. And while we are thrilled to celebrate Pride Month this year, the reality is that our LGBTQ+ friends, family, colleagues and community members have been under attack. In fact, just last week, the Human Rights Campaign, the nation's largest LGBTQ+ advocacy group, declared a state of emergency for LGBTQ+ people in the U.S. after a wave of anti-LGBTQ legislation across the country. So far in 2023, more than 525 anti-LGBTQ bills have been introduced and more than 75 signed into law as of the time of this recording – the worst year on record. Be sure to check out Human Rights Campaign's Impact Report, which shows the real-life impact of this legislation across the country, as well as their guidebook, which provides guidance for navigating states with anti-LGBTQ+ legislation. There are also ways you can make your voice heard on this important issue, and I'll be sure to link to all of these in the blog post that goes along with this episode. And while the attacks continue, the fight for equal rights continues. As park and recreation professionals, you have the power to lead this charge through building inclusive, safe spaces, supporting your LGBTQ+ staff and community members, and creating a culture of belonging. On today's episode, we're looking back at some of our previous episodes discussing LGBTQ+ inclusion in parks and recreation. If you haven't listened to the full episodes from each of these clips you're about to hear, I encourage you to check them out and consider what role you play in this mission. Together, we can inspire change, embrace our differences, and create a world where EVERYBODY benefits from the power of parks and recreation. Tune in to the full episode to hear from: Cal Dobbs (he/they), a queer transgender ultra marathoner and long-distance hiker who is running across America — from California to Florida — fighting for the inclusion of transgender people in sports and access to gender-affirming healthcare. Peyton Daisy O'Connor (they/she) a past parks and recreation director for Buncombe County, North Carolina, who produced a formal inclusion policy for trans kids, based on their own lived experience. Chris Mosier (he/him), a trailblazing athlete, coach and the founder of TransAthlete.com. Chris is a six-time member of Team USA, and in 2015 he became the first openly transgender man to represent the United States in international competition. Jason Shriner (he/him), a past marketing manager for City of Manassas Park in Virginia, who discusses how his agency was re-evaluating policies and spaces to ensure they were inclusive for LGBTQ+ people and the ways they were partnering with local LGBTQ+ advocacy and sports groups. My interview with top producer Chris Mosier is one of my all-time TOP favorites! Chris started her real estate career essentially as a single mother of two children with $80K in debt. The Lord told her to trust in Him, and he would take care of her. He said he was going to give her a listing without her saying a word to get it. And he did... her first listing, and she didn't say a word. From there, and over the years, she built a HUGE business in a niche market, and now, through her realty brokerage, did $153M in sales in the last year. Chris Mosier is the first transgender athlete to compete for Team USA, first transgender man to represent the United States in international competition, and first transgender athlete to qualify for the Olympic Trials in any sport in a category different than their sex assigned at birth. He's been hailed by the BBC as “the man who changed the Olympics,” credited for the International Olympic Committee's policy change for transgender athletes. This week's episode is with Chris Mosier. Chris is a hall of fame triathlete, an All-American duathlete, a 6-time member of Team USA, and a two-time national champion and Olympic Trials qualifier in race walking. He's also a Nike-sponsored athlete who, in 2015, became the first known transgender man to represent the U.S. in international competition. Beyond all of that, however, Chris is an incredible person who knows himself better than nearly anyone I've ever met and he's an advocate, inspiration, mentor, and a role model to so many, myself included. In this wide-ranging conversation, Chris and I talked about his relationship to sport and how that's evolved throughout his life. We discussed identity and how he shows up in the different communities that he belongs to, as well as why he doesn't want to be seen in any one particular type of way. Chris told me about navigating the world now as a white male and how that perspective differs from what he experienced earlier in his life, how we can all be allies and advocates for equal rights in sports and society, and so, so much more. This episode is brought to you by:— New Balance. The new FuelCell Rebel v3 is everything I enjoyed about its predecessor but with a more supportive upper, a little more cushion underfoot, and a more durable outsole. What it doesn't have is much more weight, checking in at under 8 oz, making it a great go-fast shoe for tempo runs, track workouts, and interval sessions on the road. The FuelCell Rebel v3 is available in both men's and women's sizes on newbalance.com or at your favorite run specialty retail store. — ARENA. If you don't have time or want to go to the gym, ARENA is a serious and super efficient strength training solution. I've been using my ARENA unit for a few weeks now and I don't have to think about it: I just find the workout I want to do on the app and it counts my reps, remembers my weight, and guides me through the workout. Try out an ARENA today by going to arena.fit and seeing if there is a unit you can demo near you or sign up for a virtual demo and see how much of a game changer this is! We're also going to learn about their journey as franchisors and what they've learned along the way building a business opportunity for others. This is a ‘must see event' for anyone interested in real estate, focusing on small niches in their industry or who one day dream to be a franchisor as well. This week's conversation is with Chris Mosier, a hall-of-fame triathlete, All-American duathlete, and a 6-time member of Team USA.But Chris is far more than an elite athlete – he is a trailblazer. In 2015, Chris became the first transgender man to represent the United States in international competition – he is also the first transgender athlete to be sponsored by Nike, featured in the ESPN Body Issue, and to qualify for the Olympic Trials in the gender they identify. He continues to be a leading voice for gender-inclusive policy in sport and is a mentor, role model, and inspiration for transgender athletes, teams, and leagues around the world. To do anything at the elite level is extremely challenging and rare – and Chris has done that while navigating an internal experience that is uniquely different from anyone else we've had on this podcast. In this conversation, we dive into the complexities (and controversies) surrounding transgender athletes – certainly a hot topic in today's society that deserves more open discussion. Moreover, you'll hear from someone who has exemplified a true commitment to know himself, a relentless and uncommon pursuit of truth, and the extreme courage to live authentically.----Please support our partners! We're able to keep growing and creating content for YOU because of their support. We take (another) bite out of the trans policy issues surrounding anti-trans legislation targeting participation in sports. We've pulled the audio from our queer policy event from July 2021 for this special episode as we continue to monitor the impact of these policies in current time. This discussion between Katie Barnes, espn feature writer; Chris Mosier, Olympic Trials athlete and founder of TransAthlete.com; and Naomi Goldberg, deputy director and LGBTQ program director at the Movement Advancement Project makes important connections between the larger movement for trans justice and what's happening in the world of professional, collegiate and K-12 sports. Have you ever wondered what a podcast guest has been up to since you heard them interviewed? We have, and so Running Reunion was born. This week we're catching up with Amelia Gapin. Amelia says that she was “quote, unquote ‘famous,' for like 10 seconds,” but she's actually a groundbreaker. In 2016, she was on the cover of Women's Running magazine, making her, as she says, “the first out transgender woman on the cover of a woman's fitness magazine.” Amelia is an outspoken advocate for the LGBTQ community, and encourages others to speak up, as well. She suggests following Chase Strangio and Chris Mosier on Twitter. They tweet out all the information you need to voice your support for people who, as Amelia says, “really, really need your help and support. We're just the people who are hanging out, doing our thing, living our lives, just like you are.” You can follow Amelia on Twitter and Instagram. To hear Amelia's original episode from June 2018, you can go here. Thank you to UCAN for sponsoring RUNNING REUNION! Today's guest - Chris Mosier
Recently, swimmer Lia Thomas made history when she became the first known transgender athlete to win a division I National championship in any sport. Predictably, the blowback has been intense. With so much conversation again focused on trans athletes, we wanted to bring you an episode we did last year that features two groundbreaking trans athletes telling their own stories.First CeCé Telfer, the first openly trans woman to win a National Collegiate Athletic Association title, joins Imara to discuss her historic win, how the attacks on trans girls in sports is rooted in anti-Black racism, and how she continues to follow her passion despite the backlash.Plus, Chris Mosier, the first openly trans athlete to represent the US in an international competition, comes on the show to discuss his career and the importance of making space for other trans athletes. And, for our moment of Trans Joy this episode, we celebrate Luca Page who started RadicallyFit, a gym that centers queer, trans, POC, big bodied and fat identified people. You can connect with us on social media!Follow TransLash Media @translashmedia on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook.Follow Imara Jones on Twitter (@ImaraJones) and Instagram (@Imara_jones_)Follow our guests on social media!CeCé Telfer: @cecetelfer (Instagram)Chris Mosier: @thechrismosier (Instagram)Radically Fit:https://www.radicallyfitoakland.com/aboutTransLash Podcast is produced by Translash Media. There are only two kinds of people. Those who live on a lake. And those who wished they did. With that in mind, our guests Scott Freerksen and Chris Mosier founded Lakefront Living International, LLC, a national real estate franchise company focused exclusively on the buying and selling of lakefront and lake community properties. Martin Scorsese's Shutter Island and nine Lakefront Bargain Hunters have turned to Lakefront Living for location advice and arrangements. Lakefront Living has an extensive database of details for 2,809 lakes. In addition to its recent expansion into North Carolina, the company has established franchise territories in Alabama, Arkansas, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Missouri, New Hampshire, Ohio, Rhode Island and Tennessee. What's Up, Runners! Welp, after five incredible years filled with amazing guests, enlightening conversations, and more fun than we ever thought we'd have, we've decided to sunset The BibRave Podcast. Today's episode is #260 and the Grand Finale! We originally created the show as a way for BibRave to contribute to the larger conversation around running, hoping to find and connect with new people, stories, and movements. After 260 episodes we feel so blessed to check every one of those boxes several times over. We've chatted with some of the biggest names in running, helped elevate stories that were under-represented or under-appreciated, and we've learned so much from all of our guests and listeners. Tim, Jess, and all of the rotating cast of characters are so grateful for the time you've spent with us in your ears, and we're going to miss chatting you up through all those miles. Why are we ending the show? Well, that's what Episode 260 is all about. Mike and Aydian in conversation with Team USA Athlete Chris Mosier discussing: - Athlete Sponsorships - Being an out transgender athlete - Masculinity in mens' spaces - How children perceive and learn from adults' masculinity
Chris Mosier was the first transgender athlete to represent the United States in international competition, after earning a spot on Team USA's sprint duathlon men's team in the 2016 World Championship.
Chris Mosier is a trailblazing hall of fame triathlete, All-American duathlete, and a 6-time member of Team USA. In 2015 he became the first known transgender man to represent the United States in international competition, and was a catalyst for change for the International Olympic Committee policy on transgender athletes. He is also a 2x National Champion and the first transgender athlete to compete in the Olympic Trials in any sport in a category different than their sex assigned at birth. He has devoted his life to fighting for transgender athletes' rights and fair, inclusive policy. In this episode, Chris talks about the current moment we are in with so many bills on the table that attack transgender youth. We also talk about the documentary, Changing the Game, that Chris is the Executive Producer of. The film follows transgender high school athletes across the country as they compete at the top of their fields, while also challenging the boundaries and perceptions of fairness and discrimination. Discussed in this episode: --Transathlete.com --Take action tab on transathlete.com (reach out to legislators)!! --Gender-affirming healthcare --The inherent harm in the phrase “protect girls' sports” --AP article: lawmakers fail to be able to cite any example of transgender athletes in sports being a problem --Women's Sports Foundation statement: "Let us be clear, there are many real threats to girls' and women's access and opportunity in sports; however, transgender inclusion is not one of them." --Watch Changing the Game on Hulu --Particular struggles that Black transgender kids face --Sha'Carri Richardson and scrutiny of Black women athletes Quote: “This is not a partisan issue. And while it's been made out to be a partisan issue, my identity should not be political. The identity of these kids should not be political. We're talking about basic human rights, dignity, respect, and opportunity--like every other kid has--to play the sports they love, to be their authentic selves, and to have a childhood and experience in school that is like that of their peers. That is not a political issue.” -Chris Mosier Follow Chris: Website, Instagram, Twitter, Follow Changing the Game: Follow Social Sport: Website, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter Subscribe to the Social Sport Newsletter --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/socialsport/support

This week, Julie and Jane welcome the first guy to the pod, as Chris Mosier stops by to discuss competing at a world-class level as a trans athlete, why there are so many laws targeting trans girls, and how cis people can be better allies. ALERT: We get stuff wrong in this episode, we struggle with pronouns and properly gendering trans athletes. Chris Mosier has made history many times before, as the first transgender athlete to represent the United States in international competition, appear in the ESPN Body Issue, and be sponsored by Nike. This January, he once again blazed a trail at the Olympic Trials for the 50K racewalk, becoming the first transgender athlete to qualify and compete in the Trials in the gender with which they identify. However, injury nearly robbed him of the chance to make it to the starting line. On this week's episode, Mosier shares the experience of having an injury he didn't tell anyone about; how he's changed his goals and perspectives through injury and other challenges, and the way his identity continues to evolve through his competition and his work as an activist. Last June (2018), I was very fortunate to travel to New York for work and while there, I thought it'd be fun to meet up with other triathletes, train with them and hear their story! I sent a message to the Empire Triathlon Club in New York and soon found myself attending one their strength sessions and runs! They welcomed me with open arms and I had truly a terrific time. If you're ever a triathlete in NYC, I highly recommend joining them! While still hot and sweaty from the session, I caught up with three of their athletes! Our conversations are short and varied: achieving goals, overcoming fears, journeys into triathlon, being courageous , giving back and much more!(At the end you'll hear me mention Chris Mosier coming on the podcast, we're hoping our schedules will match up for Season 4!).
We are honoed to have Chris Mosier as our guest this week. Chris is the first transgender member of the US Triathlon team and he has made celebrity appearances at a large variety of events, was the star of a NIKE commercial during the Olympics and recently was named as OUTSPORTS person of the year for his contributions to the LGBTQ community as an athlete. He can best be described as a pioneer in trandsgender athletics, having an impact on International Rules, the Olymics, and even your local race. Plus, he can kick your ass out there on the bike, running, and swimming! Listen in and hear what he has to say! Oh yeah, Also mailbag, favorite things, blah blah blah. Listen to the F*CKING interview. It's awesome!
