But once he forgot about his family's legacy, he unlocked his own potential to achieve greatness while continuing to surround himself with mentors. By learning from mistakes and focusing on the process, his intentional training has led to more successes than those around him. He is a 5X NCAA All-American, 2X Big Ten Champion, 2022 European Champion, 2X Olympian and 2020 Olympic Bronze Medalist. Myles shares that we are often surrounded by exceptional people that make mediocre decisions but to raise the standard, champions need to go places that most people won't go and always aim to be the best at whatever they do physically and mentally. His mindset has led to greatness off the mat earning an MBA from Ross School of Business and a Masters in Sports Management at University of Michigan. Welcome to episode 210 of Sports Management Podcast. Today's guest is Szymon Szemberg, a reoccurring guest who first appeared on episode 5, almost 5 years ago – and a lot have happened since. Szymon recently wrote an article about the NBA closing in on a league in Europe and if this could lead to an NHL-driven ice hockey league in Europe as well. This topic became even more relevant when NBA commissioner Adam Silver recently stated that such a league could start already in 2027 or 2028. Szymon is the perfect person to discuss this topic. He has been a player, coach and later sports director and managing director of an elite basketball club in Sweden. He has worked as a sports reporter, covering both basketball and hockey. Between 2001-2014, he served as Communications Director for the International Ice Hockey Federation. He was the Champions Hockey League's project lead and later COO (2013-2015) and most recently he was the Managing Director of EHC, Alliance of European Hockey Clubs, from which he just stepped down after 10 years. Sarah Dwyer-Shick, founder of The Sports Bra Project, is currently an Associate Commissioner for the WPSL and trains the Vassar College goalkeepers. Since 2021 she has also contributed content and managed the Soccer Parenting Youth Coach Advisory Group. A multi-sport athlete in high school and college, Sarah holds a Master's degree in Sports Management from the University of Denver, an undergraduate degree from Smith College, and certifications from NSCA, United Soccer Coaches, and USSF. With more than 30 years working in soccer, she has been a head or assistant coach at all three NCAA divisions, has worked with youth programs from the recreational to elite levels throughout the U.S., and has coached at soccer schools in Austria and Brazil. Drawing on these experiences, and recognizing the multiple barriers still faced by girls and women in sports, Sarah founded The Sports Bra Project in 2018. The nonprofit works to ensure that girls have the support and equipment they need to participate. With the goal of growing the number of women in decision-making roles in sports, The Sports Bra Project also provides leadership opportunities for young athletes. Finner helps review a boring St Joseph's game, which his daughter enjoyed at least, and a big win over Derry in Tallaght on Sunday that put Rovers 10 points clear. We look ahead to Thursday's tie with Kosovo Football expert Eljon, and potentially a trip to Portugal where Ronan made his European debut with Sporting Fingal in 2010, and also nearly cost Rovers the title that season. We reminisce about Belgrade and White Hart Lane, his League of Ireland debut for the college in 2005 and scoring against the Hoops as a teenager. Ronan talks his long wait for a first European goal, Pico taking the armband and equalling his European appearance record, Rory Gaffney's greatness, Burkey's fitness, the gaffer's half-time team talks and "the turn" when results haven't yet come. We discuss his relationship with Stephen Bradley and the senior leadership group within the squad, winning the Cup and lifting the league trophy with young Josh, and making the move from centre-mid to right-wing back, all the way up to his last goal for Rovers against Bohs in front of the south stand and the difficult decision to leave the club. Kaela is a defender for AFC Toronto, one of the six clubs in the inaugural season of the Northern Super League, Canada's first-ever women's professional soccer league. A young player from Burnaby, British Columbia, Kaela played with the Canadian youth national teams at the U-17 and U-20 levels, including at the 2016 U-17 Women's World Cup in Cameroon. After her time with the Kansas Jayhawks, where she played the most minutes and games in program history while studying Sports Management with a minor in business, Kaela pursued a professional soccer career with stints in Serbia and Finland. She joined the Toronto side as one of their first players signed in December of 2024 and is now a key part of the current league leaders' backline. Brent, a Florida State University graduate and seasoned endurance coach, serves as the Foundation's Executive Director. His leadership has fueled programs like the Inclusive Employment Program, which helps individuals with disabilities secure meaningful work. Brent's athletic achievements, combined with his passion for advocacy, have helped raise over $10 million for the cause. Leonard Marshall is the oldest of seven children from the rural town of Franklin, Louisiana. Hegraduated from Franklin High School in 1979 and attended Louisiana State University (LSU). Heattended LSU from 1979 until he was drafted from LSU in the spring of 1983. Leonard Marshall was coached by legendary LSU coaches Jerry Stovall and Pete Jenkins. Leonard Marshall played in the NFL for 12 seasons. He was drafted in the Second Round of the1983 NFL Draft as a rising Junior at LSU by the New York Giants and played for most of his career in New York. After being drafted in 1983, he initially resided in Secaucus, New Jersey before residing in Jersey City, New Jersey. Leonard Marshall was coached by Hall of Fame Coach Bill Parcells and former NY Giants Defensive Coordinator and future Hall of Fame Coach Bill Belichick. During his tenure with the Giants, he was part of the “Big Blue Wrecking Crew”, won two Super Bowl rings (1986 & 1990) and was twice Named second-team All-Pro (1985 & 1986) and twice named to the Pro Bowl team (1985 & 1986). In September 2022, he was inducted into the New York Giants Ring of Honor and recognized for his work bringing awareness to CTE in professional football players. After football, Mr. Marshall attended Seton Hall University towards an MBA in Finance. He previously held his Series 7 and 63 licenses and worked for a number of years as a Registered Investment Advisor. In 2007, Leonard returned to Seton Hall, as a Professor of Finance and Sports Management. Leonard Marshall also accepted a seat on the Board of Directors for Louisiana State University's Diversity Board; and serves as a Board member for Carver Bank, Piketx.com, and the Concussion Legacy Foundation. He currently serves in the capacity of Outside Advisor for Moldaver Lee CohenRockefeller Global Family Office. He is currently mentoring an Autistic child in NJ. He has a daughter named Arianna and a stepson named Victor and a grandson. He often visits his home state of Louisiana. He is a fan of LSU and loves to visit LSU and its football program. He previously lived in Hudson, Bergen and Passaic Counties of New Jersey and Boca Raton, Florida. He currently resides with his wife, Lisa Marshall in Ocean County in New Jersey. Enjoy. Many graduate students in psychology, counseling, and social work struggle to find their theoretical and clinical footing. As graduate students get closer to graduation, many feel under-prepared and ill-equipped to provide effective therapy to clients. Despite the differences between training in a depth-oriented model like NARM and studying traditional coursework required for a clinical degree, one student celebrates bridging these two different modes of learning to become a more confident and effective beginning therapist. On this episode of Transforming Trauma, host Emily Ruth welcomes Caleb McNaughton, a graduate student currently seeking licensure in Tennessee. The pair discuss Caleb's path that led him to enroll in the NARM Therapist Training as a graduate student. They also explore the friction that developed as Caleb began bringing back into his graduate program what he was learning in the NeuroAffective Relational Model, leading him to question, and at times push back on, his graduate school education and training. About Caleb McNaughton: Caleb McNaughton, a graduate student, is currently seeking licensure in Chattanooga, Tennessee, alongside training in complex developmental trauma. Caleb received his undergrad in Sports Management from Covenant College. After graduation, Caleb spent a year as a missionary in Mexico. It was during this time that he felt led to pursue a degree in counseling. Caleb was introduced to the Neuro Affective Relational Model (NARM) through his father Jason McNaughton and his colleague Heather Parker, both NARM Master Therapists in Birmingham, AL.
