Job Story #28 goes back in time twenty-one years to Thanksgiving 1997. I recorded a trip home for Thanksgiving, with the intention of using the audio on my old WFMU talk show, Aerial View (see below). While I'm sitting around without an actual gig, one "job" I've taken on is digitizing old cassettes and other physical media. Much of the audio is raw recordings done in my car - what I called "Roadkill" - later boiled down for use on air. Revisiting the raw recordings has unearthed treasures I didn't know were there. In this case, it's audio of family members no longer with us. My Aunt Isabel. My mother. One of my sisters. My brother-in-law. My mother's boyfriend (though, in fairness, I only suspect he's dead). They are all here. It may be one of the last Thanksgivings we spent together, everyone but my brother Mario, who was down in Florida and had to be there by phone. If you’d like to tell yourJob Story, email it to jobstorypod@gmail.com or submit it on the Facebook Group page for Job Story.Job Story is hosted by Pippa and available here:Apple Podcasts- In the app, search "Job Story".Google PlayGoogle Podcasts- In the app, search "Job Story".iTunesRSS FeedSoundCloudSpotifyStitcherYouTubeYou can call and record a Job Story of any length at WAY-4-JOB-POD (929-456-2763) or a Job Story of 90 seconds or less right here. Please share Job Story with your friends and family and be sure to review Job Story on iTunes and elsewhere.Until next time, this is Chris T., working hard... and hardly working. Job Story #21 is all about my recent "Intro To Voiceover" class. You'll hear me in the car on the way to Waistock, talking about Voiceover Class, some actual readings from same and an original song from 1991 about a co-worker. Job Story #17 is a bit of a cop-out. I'll admit it, I wanted Labor Day off. But something interesting happened. While dubbing material for my ongoing "Defunct Media Digitizing Project" I stumbled across an Aerial View from four years ago that sowed the seeds for this podcast. The episode is from Sep. 2, 2014 and is entitled "The Working Life". Here's the description from the playlist page:Tonight, I'd like to hear your stories about the best and worst gigs you've had and what you've learned on the job. Other things to discuss:How do you prepare for your work day?Living on unemployment. The job search.Co-worker Conflict.Horrible Bosses. The Day I Got Fired.Weekend Warrior.Public Employees: Scum of the Earth?I don't like Mondays: the worst day of the week at work.Scary Co-workers: Are you armed?Slacking on the Job.Changing Careers.Romance in the Workplace.Watercooler Gossip. When Do You Know It's Time to Go?LinkedIn, Monster.com, Career Builder & other job search sites. That's Job Storyright there. This idea actually began as a pitch I made at my old job, for an entire channel about working topics. It didn't fly.My dream is to one day do Job Storywith phone calls and I'm still working on it. In the meanwhile, this Aerial View show will give you a pretty good idea what it would sound like.If you’d like to tell your Job Story, email it to jobstorypod@gmail.com or submit it on the Facebook Group page for Job Story.Job Story is hosted by Pippa and available here:Apple Podcasts- In the app, search "Job Story".Google PlayGoogle Podcasts- In the app, search "Job Story".iTunesSoundCloudSpotifyStitcherYouTubeYou can call and record a Job Story of any length at WAY-4-JOB-POD (929-456-2763) or a Job Story of 90 seconds or less right here. Please share Job Story with your friends and family and be sure to review Job Storyon iTunes and elsewhere. For Job Story #14 I decided to enter my vocal booth and rant for as long as I could, as if I was back on the air live. I enjoyed it. It felt like utilizing a skill in danger of atrophy. You'll also hear a vintage piece I did for the old WFMU Program Guide, LCD, about being unemployed. Honestly, I don't know if it ever ran but it was interesting to hear how much is still relevant. If you’d like to tell me your Job Story, email it to jobstorypod@gmail.com or submit it on the Facebook Group page for Job Story.Job Story is hosted by Pippa and available here:Apple Podcasts- In the app, search "Job Story".Google PlayGoogle Podcasts- In the app, search "Job Story".iTunesSoundCloudSpotifyStitcherYouTubeBig Job Story News: you can now call and record a Job Story of any length at WAY-4-JOB-POD (929-456-2763) or a Job Story of 90 seconds or less right here. Please share Job Story with your friends and family and be sure to review Job Story on iTunes and elsewhere. In Job Story #4 I talk with Kiran Gaudioso at United Way of Northern New Jersey. They spearheaded the ALICE Report. ALICE is an acronym that stands for Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed. These are people who live just above the poverty line, often working two or three jobs to get (barely) by.Since the first ALICE Report out of New Jersey, many other states have commissioned and issued their own reports. The idea is to get a true picture of where things stand with decent-paying jobs in the United States. It's not a pretty picture. Despite a booming economy, gains are not getting to the majority of workers in the form of raises or bonuses or any other way. With 3.9% Unemployment (a figure in dispute due to the number of "discouraged" workers no longer seeking employment) you would think employers would begin paying people more. Not the case, unfortunately.Job Story is on iTunes and SoundCloud. Stay tuned for info about Job Story on other platforms. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
Job Story #3 features a sit-down with one of my oldest, dearest friends, Jeff Maschi. But that’s not the reason I spoke with him. He also happens to be a Labor Relations Expert and we talk about what happens when you lose your job. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
Episode 2 of Job Story, featuring the Jobless Journal and more. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
The first installment of Job Story features an unsolicited phone call to me from the Banker’s Life company. Look these scam artists up online sometime if you want to read some hilarious reviews of a horrid workplace.I want to hear your job stories, about bad bosses and toxic co-workers, about horrid interviews and soul-crushing corporate nonsense, about climbing the ladder to who-knows-what and endless meetings wherein you wish you could use astral projection to place yourself in nature, communing with your friends of the forest.Yes, Job Story will also have uplifting shit and advice from people who are good at that sort of thing. But it will largely document my search for a good job. What is a “good job”? One that pays more than the $40K all these jobs seem to offer. One that has a benefits package. One that is full-time and allows me to use all my talents, whatever those are. But I don’t mind getting “negative” on Job Story. I roundly reject those “Stay positive” types who would tell you to cheer up as they marched you to the gallows. Fuck all that. There are more than enough positive job and work podcasts out there.
