This is a Grave Talks CLASSIC EPISODE! Once a beacon of healing, Wildwood Sanitarium now stands as a monument to everything time tried—and failed—to erase. Built at the turn of the century, it offered compassion long before the world understood addiction, trauma, or the fragile human mind. But when tuberculosis swept through its halls, hope gave way to fear, and the building's purpose twisted into something far darker. Its original mission disappeared into the cracks of its foundation… but something else remained. Today, Wildwood's shadowed corridors and aging walls carry more than history—they carry presence. Visitors report footsteps where no living soul walks, murmurs drifting from empty rooms, and glimpses of figures that dissolve the moment you focus on them. It's as though the patients who once sought refuge inside never truly left. Paranormal investigator Matt Warner takes us deep into Wildwood's past and deeper still into its haunting present. With chilling encounters, compelling evidence, and stories that blur the line between comfort and dread, Matt uncovers what may still be searching for peace within the sanitarium's forgotten rooms. Are these spirits trapped? Restless? Or simply waiting for someone to finally hear them? Donate (no account necessary) | Subscribe (account required) Join Bryan Dean Wright, former CIA Operations Officer, as he dives into today's top stories shaping America and the world. In this Monday Headline Brief of The Wright Report, Bryan examines the rising risk of war with Venezuela, secret peace talks over Ukraine, the abduction of Christian schoolchildren in Nigeria, Israel's shifting posture in Gaza and Lebanon, and the domestic political fight over sedition and extremist rhetoric inside the United States government. U.S. and Venezuela Move Closer to War: President Trump authorized covert CIA operations inside Venezuela, prompting the FAA to warn airlines about dangerous conditions in Venezuelan airspace. Reports from Bloomberg, Reuters, and the New York Times confirm GPS jamming and rising military activity. A Russian oil tanker headed for Caracas was turned away twice by the USS Stockdale and is now anchored off Cuba. Bryan notes that the White House still hopes for a peaceful exit by President Maduro, with Colombia offering asylum in exchange for guarantees of no future attempts to kill or arrest him. Trump's Ukraine Peace Plan Faces Pushback: A secret twenty-eight-point peace plan leaked last week, calling for Ukraine to give up parts of the Donbas, reduce its military to six hundred thousand troops, and abandon NATO membership. The plan would also restore economic ties between Russia and the West and release frozen Russian funds for joint rare earth projects. European leaders object, and President Zelenskyy says negotiations must continue, insisting Ukraine needs a larger standing army to deter future invasions. Bryan emphasizes that Trump wants the deal signed by Thanksgiving, warning Zelenskyy that U.S. support may end if he refuses. Ukraine's Deepening Corruption Crisis: Fifteen to thirty percent of aid intended for Ukraine's military and energy needs has been stolen, according to recent reporting. Several allies of Zelenskyy have been arrested, and the president's key aide, Andriy Yermak, is widely suspected of involvement. Ukraine's anti-corruption agency plans more indictments this week, placing Zelenskyy in a weakened negotiating position. Islamists Kidnap Christian Children in Nigeria: Three hundred Christian students were abducted from a Catholic school in central Nigeria. About fifty escaped by fleeing into the forest and hiding until farmers rescued them. Boko Haram and other jihadist factions are believed to be responsible. Bryan warns that these groups aim to build an Islamic caliphate across the Sahel and into the Gulf of Guinea, threatening regional Christians and strategic minerals such as cocoa, iron ore, bauxite, and oil. Trump has warned Nigeria that failure to protect Christians could trigger U.S. military action. Israel Reshapes Gaza and Expands Strikes in Lebanon: U.S. troops are withdrawing from Gaza's coordination center. Israeli, Arab, and vetted Palestinian officials will manage reconstruction in a new "Green Zone," while unvetted Palestinians remain in a devastated area controlled by Hamas. Polling shows Hamas' support has risen inside Gaza, meaning roughly half the population may remain under militant control. Israel also intensified operations in Lebanon, killing Hezbollah's top military commander in a drone strike despite an ongoing ceasefire. Jewish Extremists Spark Crisis in the West Bank: Prime Minister Netanyahu convened emergency meetings after Jewish extremists torched Palestinian homes and cars in a village attack. Israeli officials say about two hundred seventy young men are responsible for the most recent incidents and vow to act. Sedition Caucus Escalates Rhetoric Against Trump: Former CIA, FBI, and military officials who now serve as Democrats in Congress released a video urging service members to resist unlawful orders from President Trump. Senator Elissa Slotkin admitted she knows of no unlawful orders but says such orders might come. Bryan calls the effort a psychological operation designed to sow confusion inside the military. Legal experts warn that service members who refuse lawful orders could face court-martial and prison. Trump Meets NYC's Socialist Mayor Elect: Zohran Mamdani met with President Trump on Friday, and the two agreed on issues such as electricity costs and housing. Mamdani later repeated his belief that Trump is a fascist and a Nazi, prompting Republican leaders like Elise Stefanik to call Mamdani a jihadist with a long documented history of radical associations. Bryan argues the evidence strongly supports Stefanik's view and warns against normalizing Mamdani's ideology. Eric Swalwell Runs for Governor of California: Representative Swalwell announced his campaign on Jimmy Kimmel Live, promising to lead the "Resistance" against Trump. Bryan revisits the long-running Chinese influence operation that targeted young California Democrats, including Swalwell, and raises questions about whether the FBI ever thoroughly investigated the network linked to his former associate Fang Fang. Good News in Medicine: Japanese researchers found that the amino acid arginine significantly reduced Alzheimer's-related plaque and inflammation in animal studies. Dosing remains experimental, but Bryan notes it could offer a promising option for families exploring right-to-try pathways. Hello and welcome to another episode of Ohio Mysteries Backroads. On November 23, 1963—while the nation was consumed by news of President John F. Kennedy's assassination—a devastating fire quietly swept through the Golden Age Nursing Home in Fitchville, Ohio. In a matter of minutes, 63 residents, many unable to walk or call for help, lost their lives in one of the deadliest nursing home fires in U.S. history. In this episode, we uncover the overlooked tragedy that was overshadowed by national mourning. Through historical records, survivor accounts, and expert insights, we explore how outdated building codes, inadequate staffing, and a lack of fire protections created the perfect storm. We also examine how this disaster became a turning point that transformed safety standards for care facilities across the country. Join us as we shine a light on the forgotten victims, the systemic failures that doomed them, and the reforms their loss helped inspire. This is a Grave Talks CLASSIC EPISODE! Chicago has its fair share of legends — but some stories never made it onto the postcards. Long-time investigator Tony Szabelski has walked the alleys, theaters, and hotel hallways where the city's ghosts still linger. And few places hold as much residual fear as the Iroquois Theater, where a single night of chaos left spirits with nowhere left to run. Then there's the Congress Plaza Hotel — a place so charged with unexplained activity that even seasoned investigators refuse to wander certain floors alone. In this conversation, Tony doesn't just recount history; he brings you into the echo of it — the footsteps that shouldn't exist, the whispers that travel down century-old corridors, and the sense that in Chicago, tragedy doesn't just fade… it settles in. Mary Trump joins Joanna Coles to pull back the curtain on the Trump family and the man at its center. She recounts a childhood spent seeing her uncle everywhere, the opulent parties that doubled as power plays, and the lessons learned about a man who thrived on attention and control. Mary dissects Donald's core pathologies—from his craving for wealth and status to the public slips and impulsive behaviors that now define him. She warns that the real danger isn't just Trump himself, but the enablers who prop him up and profit from his rise. From her perspective as a clinical psychologist and family insider, Mary asks: when the myth collapses, what happens to those left in its wake? Hosted on Acast. A basement fire, a desperate escape, and a suitcase full of contradictions turned the Hotel Congress into one of the Southwest's most enduring ghost stories. We head to downtown Tucson to unravel how a 1918 rail-side hotel became ground zero for Dillinger's capture and a century of spectral lore, then walk room by room through the encounters that keep investigators coming back.We start with the history: Congress Street's expansion, the Southern Pacific station, and the 1934 blaze that raced upward to the gang's hideout. From there, we sift through the strangest details in the recovered luggage—Tommy guns, body armor, cash, gold coins, and whispers of a glass eyeball and a skeletal hand—and how those artifacts shaped decades of first-hand claims from staff and guests. The building's restoration, landmark status, and still-working switchboard frame a space where time hasn't fully moved on.Then we dig into the hauntings with care. Room 242 carries the weight of a life cut short, with reports of a woman in white who sits at the bed or curls close in quiet grief. Room 220 is lighter, marked by a World War II veteran's routine and the playful reappearance of butter knives left in impossible places. Room 214 hosts a dapper figure in seersucker and hat, often seen at the window of an unrented room, while 212 delivers pure anxiety: locks clicking, doors opening, and a ghostly “apprentice” practicing the craft of intrusion. This FREAK on the DRACULA of HAUNTS podcast, it's our annual Halloween special! What better time to talk for two hours about two very unscary (and actually quite good) episodes of reality TV? Week 2 of The Golden Bachelor AU brought us a bevy of creatures, a character-revealing swear-word, and some profoundly touching personal stories - so naturally, we've responded by doing a parody song and talking a lot about horse poo. So kick off your high heels and saddle up for another perfect pod!
This time, we have another big home haunt hop and DFC Expo to share!

Horror movies are big business: this year, they've accounted for more ticket sales in the U.S. than comedies and dramas combined, bringing in over a billion dollars at the box office. And the phenomenon goes beyond a hunger for cheap thrills and slasher flicks; artists have been using horror to explore deep-seated communal and personal anxieties for centuries. On this episode of Critics at Large, Vinson Cunningham, Naomi Fry, and Alexandra Schwartz, along with the New Yorker culture editor Alex Barasch, use three contemporary entries—“The Babadook,” “Saint Maud,” and “Weapons”—to illustrate the inventive filmmaking and sharp social commentary that have become hallmarks of modern horror. “In the past, the horror would be something external that's disrupting a previously idyllic town or life. Now there's a lot more of: the bad thing has already happened to you,” Barasch says. “You already have a trauma at the beginning of the film—or even before the film begins—and then that is eating you from the inside, or trying to kill you, and you have to grapple with that.”Read, watch, and listen with the critics:“The Babadook” (2014)“Rosemary's Baby” (1968)“Scream with Me,” by Eleanor Johnson“Hereditary” (2018)“The Substance” (2024)“Saint Maud” (2020)The “Saw” franchise (2004—)“The Exorcist” (1973)“The Case Against the Trauma Plot,” by Parul Sehgal (The New Yorker)“Weapons” (2025)“Barbarian” (2022) “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre” (1974)“Get Out” (2017)“Alien” (1979)“The Blair Witch Project” (1999)“Talk to Me” (2022)New episodes drop every Thursday. We conclude spooky season (To be fair it's been a pretty damn spooky year) with a history of haunted house attractions. Holden takes us all the way back to when haunts started with Ancient Greece and through some Dark Ages, some not so Dark Ages, and the Great Depression when creepily yelling at people for fun started becoming the art form it is today! Then Jake talks about theme park horror attractions like Halloween Horror Nights and Knotts Scary farm. And finally Mike takes us home talking about the lunatic fringes (emphasis on the lunatics) that have tried to take haunted houses to the extreme and what happens when an art form loses its art and just turns into a guy named Russ torturing people. It's always a guy named Russ, isn't it?Want even more Nerd of Mouth? Some houses creak. Others whisper. This one swept the floors — even when no one was there. This true haunted house story begins like any other suburban move-in: a quiet cul-de-sac, a pale single-story home built in the '80s, the promise of peaceful nights. But for one unsuspecting family, the ordinary sounds of settling beams were soon replaced by the unmistakable swoosh of a broom sweeping unseen floors… and the violent slam of a locked front door at 4 a.m. It started with whispers near the laundry room, shadows crossing doorways, phones ringing with no caller on the other end, and objects vanishing only to reappear in impossible places. The family's dogs growled at empty corners; the children woke to invisible hands yanking their hair and tugging at their feet. But the most chilling twist? The mother realized the haunting didn't start with this house. Years earlier, in their home overseas, the same voices and presences had followed them — and her own childhood memories revealed the same pattern. It wasn't the walls. Support our Halloween “Overcoming the Darkness” campaign to help people with depression: https://weirddarkness.com/HOPEA dying man with a fake identity spent his final days erasing every trace of his existence before walking into the Irish sea, leaving investigators with only one question: who was Peter Bergmann? | #WDRadio WEEK OF OCT 12, 2025==========HOUR ONE: In June of 2009 a man calling himself Peter Bergmann checked in to a hotel in Sligo Town. Five days later his body was found on Rosses Point Beach. But Peter Bergmann was not Peter Bergmann – so who was he? (The Peter Bergmann Mystery) *** Sharing stories from people who are frightened by a bump in the night or a strange shadow on the wall in their bedroom is one thing, but when you get professional ghost hunters telling of the scariest experiences they've had, you know it has to be some freaky stuff. (Scariest Experiences of Ghost Hunters) ==========HOUR TWO: Jeannie Saffin already had a tough life, being born with a birth defect that stunted her mental growth, leaving her with the mind of a child, never getting married and having kids, never dating… but that all pales in comparison to how she died: bursting into flames for no apparent reason. Was Jeannie Saffin the victim of spontaneous human combustion? (The Spontaneous Combustion of Jeannie Saffin) *** Sometimes it's easy to get a girl to go out with you – just be polite and ask. Some men resort to cheesy pickup lines thinking it will help their chances. But one man chose to call upon a woman in a very unusual way… by purchasing a gravestone. (Pitching Woo With a Tombstone) *** If a man demands his girlfriend give up the baby they conceived, otherwise he would no longer be with the woman – what is that newborn's mother to do? Sadly, Emily Dunn made the wrong decision – with tragic results. (The Durbin Baby Murder) *** The transplanting of an organ is almost a routine procedure now in the 21st century – even doing a transplant of an arm or a leg isn't uncommon. But when you talk about transplanting a living head onto a dead body – that's when things get tricky. But Robert White thought it could be done – and even tried doing it. (The Man Who Wanted To Do a Head Transplant) *** Imagine getting onto a plane and once in the air finding out that the pilot wasn't qualified to fly that kind of plane – and that he was only there because the original pilot wasn't available due to being dead. That's what happened in 1934 on the boat, the SS Morro Castle. And it was the beginning of tragedy after tragedy. (Mystery, Mismanagement, and Mayhem on the SS Morro Castle)==========SUDDEN DEATH OVERTIME: More of the scariest experiences of ghost hunters! *** I'll tell you about that time when a dam failed – and because of it, people were legally allowed to marry the dead. And still do to this day. (That Time A Failed Dam Led to Marrying Corpses) *** Personal experiences of those who have stayed at the Wolf Creek Inn, plus some hard evidence, seems to indicate that spirits who haunt the place are not only benign in nature, but even protect the guests and owners from other malevolent spirits which roam there as well.
