Amid claims of a 300% increase in self harm among American teenagers, this is truly an epidemic rising from a global pandemic. And anyone with teenage children knows it's often difficult to tell the difference between normal teen behavior and a genuine problem. Communication helps, yet very serious problems may be going unchecked if we are not in close, frequent communication with the teens in our life.Today you'll hear from mother-and-daughter Jennifer and Abigail. Abi slid into self harm for nearly a year without her parents ever noticing. Her friends were indifferent to the behavior, which drove her to it all the more. Then one day, Abi opened up, and the whole family was able to deal with the destructive behavior.
Your children - and every single one of us - are uniquely created. As parents, teachers, and youth leaders, it's important we direct their paths without making their choices for them.
From bullying to unhealthy acceptance, navigating life as a teen or adolescent has become infinitely more complicated.Existing with the culture of identity and its counterpart which seeks to cancel anything that does not agree with its fluidity takes a toll on the innocence of youth, and that's where the truth of our being an image bearer of the One who created us comes in.
Whether you call it anger, righteous indignation, or something else altogether, of it causes you to sin, you have to get it in check. In a culture where anger is common and almost anything can be taken as offense, we - the body of Christ - have to be on guard when it comes to our emotions and our responses.Tony and Rob discuss how this plays out in their lives as individuals and with the young people they are trying to lead and influence for the better.
The subject of politics is normally avoided as Fayetteville Youth for Christ Campus Life Directors counsel and guide students. But in light of the culture of division we are all steeped in, Jennifer and Abigail talk openly on this episode about the condition of our country from a Christian and political perspective.
Do your kids, or the children you're leading and teaching have a healthy view of sex? Do they understand why God made them the way He did, and how they are to relate to others? Josh and Jennifer talk to parents and pastors about when, why and how top present the truth about sex to young people.
