One of the most common prayers we as believers pray is that God’s will be done. Whether it be in a situation, such as praying for the salvation of a loved one, or something less significant as buying a new house or taking a new job, in both instances we pray and ask God, your will be done. While there is not necessarily anything wrong with speaking to God and telling Him that we want to see His will be done, I believe that sometimes that conversation ends where it should just be getting started. It might be true that Jesus spent a lot of time around sinners, but the reason why seems to be getting lost in translation. I couldn’t stop thinking about how many times at the end of the year we start seeing many different evangelists talking about what God has shown them for a word or direction for the year to come. I began to come up with a word for the corporate body to end this year and a direction to bring for the year to come. I had some ideas of what I felt the Lord was showing me about a corporate word but every time I would try to put it together I would get sidetracked. I had an idea that there was a message about moving forward and pressing on, not looking back, not getting defeated in things we weren’t able to accomplish but staying positive and pressing on no matter what. Trying to put this into words, I somehow found myself thinking about a passage of scripture where Jesus said, “and these things shall follow them”. The words “shall follow” stuck out to me like a sore thumb. We are getting ready for the new year with our “Get Ready” series. Every new year we make resolutions we plan to keep or set goals for the year to come but what happens when we don’t keep the resolutions and we steer off course? What about the goals we had set for last year, only to fall short of meeting them? The bottom line is that we don’t always stick to what we wanted to do or meet the goals that we set for ourselves. The enemies job is to make us feel like failures so that we don’t want to “Keep Keeping On” or as Paul would say to fight the good fight. When he makes us feel like we didn’t accomplish anything, we feel like giving up. If all we do is focus on the negative things from the last year, that is exactly what will happen. Let’s look back at 2018 and see all the things that we were able to do and get encouraged about how much more we did this year than the year before. How many times have you tried to do something on your own, only to realize you cannot do it by yourself? Many things seem to be impossible, and on our own, many are. One of the most important things that we can do is to learn to be led by the Spirit. We hit the road again this past week, looking for a new church. We were not able to find what we were looking for but ended up stopping at a small Baptist church in hopes of at least getting fed a good word before going home. The church was beautiful and full of history. It was also full of religion, but one thing that it wasn't full of was the Spirit. Why is it important to be led by the spirit?
