Wow is this a special one. For Episode 33 of the HipHopHumboldt Podcast, I was blessed to be able to have some time with the Humboldt County Hip Hop legend, 1Ton. 1Ton started the interview talking about how he got started in the scene DJ'ing shows with Underrated on the Arcata Plaza way back. He spoke about doing the grassroots game right by marketing the music and shows properly. Before social media. 1Ton talked about Potluck selling out shows early on. 1Ton talked about how the cannabis culture in Humboldt County was helpful with being able to network in the business and music industry. We got into how Humboldt County is changing, with the cannabis industry changing and with the University growing into Cal Poly Humboldt. We pulled back and got into the history of the group, the sound, and having to do it before the digital age. 1Ton talked about how booking went before the digital age. And still going on to have booked and performed at shows in all 50 states. 1Ton talked about doing the Harvest Party with Snoop Dogg at the Eureka Muni way back if you remember that. 1Ton talked about Potluck going on to tour with Tech N9ne. We get into some other stories, incuding an amazing story about 1Ton meeting Kendrick Lamar while on tour years back. 1Ton talked about wanting to book a show with Wiz Khalifa years back, but the label not wanting to fund it. 1Ton talked about Hiway. 1Ton talked about Greg Mack and The Party. 1Ton gave a shoutout to Bob Doran for covering hip hop. 1Ton also gave a shoutout to Brian Swislow for the growth he has brought to the Humboldt County Hip Hop scene. To start the second half of the pod, we spoke on the influence that E-40 has had on the culture for so long. We talked about the importance of Eminem's rise and how he paved a lane for so many young people. 1Ton talks about being on tour w Berner and Devin the Dude way back. We gave shoutouts to Fatbol and the Fantastik Fam. 1Ton got into the tour management work he's been doing and how learning the game in Humboldt fostered his growth. He drops some knowledge to the people coming up in the game. He also discusses how cannabis is a gift and a curse to Humboldt County Hip Hop. We got into a really meaningful conversation about Nipsey, and 1Ton tells a story about the single day where he met The Game, Nipsey Hussle, and Guy Fieri for the first time on the same day in Boise, Idaho. 1Ton closed the pod with what he's bringing to Humboldt in the future which includes new music! It was a great time and I'm very thankful to 1Ton for coming on this pod. 138. How Halloween 2022 Actually Went: A Follow Up to Episode 136

This brief episode is a follow up to Episode 136…if you haven't listened to that one, I highly recommend listening to that one first, otherwise this one won't make very much sense. I feel like it's really important to not just talk about ideas or make plans, but to take time for self-reflection after an event to see how you're feeling—especially as a mom. Mamas set the tone for their entire family and sometimes it can feel really out of control to create a plan only to have the day come and the plan go out the window. Halloween 2022 was no exception for us. There were frantic moments the day of Halloween with costume preparation and getting everyone out the door on time, but all in all, I'd say this holiday went well and my goals ended up being more of a guideline than a set in stone plan of action. My Original Goals From Episode 136 Included: · Wean off of Halloween traditions (trick or treating) · Switch Witch · Harvest Festivals and parties over mainstream celebrations · Heirloom costumes (no darkness) · Celebrate with neighbors, make it clear we will use our discernment & leave if necessary · Talk openly about Halloween and spiritual warfare · Make pie instead of scary jack-o-lanterns · Be aware of sweets consumption and ingredients · Set a good example for our kids with either no costumes or innocent ones · Up our vitamin regiment, get good sleep, take care of our health How Halloween 2022 Actually Went: · We're still upping our vitamin regiment, getting good sleep and taking care of our health · Switch Witch went off without a hitch · We're aware of sweets consumptions and ingredients—the kids asked about the candies they received and tried a few. They all agreed most of them were gross (green snickers, smarties, fire balls, etc). We let them have chocolates I bought at the health food store, let them keep just a few from trick-or-treating (they all chose less than 5 each!), and in general, candy was a non-issue · We set a good example with no costumes…truthfully, I just didn't have it in me this year. I was not motivated to spend money on Halloween costumes for the grownups · The kids' heirloom quality costumes were amazing and continue to be an everyday play hit in our homeschool. I'm really glad we invested in www.khepp.com and www.treasuresfromjennifer.com · We did talk openly about Halloween and spiritual warfare…although it was a bit of a dance. I was left wondering if we shared too much or in the right way? · We did not make a pie with our pumpkins, we fed them to the chickens after we carved nice things in them at a friend's Harvest Party (did you see that “Jesus knows your harvest parties are really Halloween parties” meme going around?) · Our church's Harvest Festival was a blast…so wholesome and well organized! We will definitely be going again next year · Are we weaning off Halloween? I don't know. It was so fun doing an activity with our neighbors. I think it made me realize I want to do more adventures with them and it doesn't have to be trick-or-treating · A word on Trick-or-Treating…I had a moment where I thought this is so picturesque! What's the harm in this? And then we came to the creepy house…listen to the full episode to hear this part FULL SHOW NOTES AVAILABLE AT: WWW.ELEVATINGMOTHERHOOD.COM

Wake up Castle Rock and America

Some celebrate Halloween more or treat it as an essential holiday more than Thanksgiving. Why? Scripture does not speak at all about Halloween, but it does give us some principles on which we can decide. In Old Testament Israel, witchcraft was a crime punishable by death (Exodus 22:18; Leviticus 19:31; 20:6, 27).  The New Testament teaching about the occult is clear. Acts 8:9-24, the story of Simon, shows that occultism and Christianity don't mix. The account of Elymas the sorcerer in Acts 13:6-11 reveals that sorcery is violently opposed to Christianity. Paul called Elymas a child of the devil, an enemy of righteousness, and a perverter of the ways of God.  In Acts 16, at Philippi, a fortune-telling girl lost her demon powers when the evil spirit was cast out by Paul. The interesting matter here is that Paul refused to allow even good statements to come from a demon-influenced person. Acts 19 shows new converts who have abruptly broken with their former occultism by confessing, showing their evil deeds, bringing their magic paraphernalia, and burning it before everyone (Acts 19:19). Whether or not Christians should celebrate Halloween can be a very controversial topic. Some Christians celebrate Halloween simply by dressing up in a costume and having fun, seeing it as innocent and harmless. Other Christians are equally convinced that Halloween is a satanic holiday established to worship evil spirits and promote darkness and wickedness. So, who is right? Is it possible for Christians to celebrate Halloween without compromising their faith? Halloween, no matter how commercialized, has almost entirely pagan origins. As innocent as it may seem to some, it is not something to be taken lightly. Christians tend to have various ways to celebrate or not to celebrate Halloween.  For some, it means having an “alternative” Harvest Party. For others, it is staying away from the ghosts, witches, goblins, etc., and wearing innocuous costumes, e.g., little princesses, clowns, cowboys, super-heroes, etc. Some choose not to do anything, electing to lock themselves in the house with the lights off. With our freedom as Christians, we are at liberty to decide how to act. So, should a Christian celebrate Halloween? Is there anything evil about a Christian dressing up as a princess or cowboy and going around the block asking for candy? No, there is not. Are there things about Halloween that are anti-Christian and should be avoided? Absolutely! If parents are going to allow their children to participate in Halloween, they should make sure to keep them from getting involved in the darker aspects of the day.  If Christians take part in Halloween, their attitude, dress, and most importantly, their behavior should still reflect a redeemed life (Philippians 1:27). Many churches hold "harvest festivals" and incorporate costumes but in a godly environment. There are many Christians who hand out tracts that share the Gospel along with the Halloween candy. The decision is ultimately ours to make. But as with all things, we are to incorporate the principles of Romans 14. We can't allow our own convictions about a holiday to cause division in the body of Christ, nor can we use our freedom to force others to stumble in their faith. We are to do all things as to the Lord. Okay, you might get tired of me speaking about Thanksgiving. I know that I have so much to be thankful for. So, what should you and I, as Christian, be focused on Thanksgiving Day? The Bible tells of a beautiful story of Jesus providing miraculous healings for ten individuals suffering from Leprosy. This fantastic story is found in Luke 17:11-19, and while it shares the incredible fact that Jesus is our healer, it also gives a powerful lesson on thankfulness. If you take time to read the story, you will see that out of the ten who experienced healing from this horrible disease, only one of them took the opportunity to turn around and thank Jesus face to face. Luke 17:15-16 And one of them, when he saw that he was healed, returned, and with a loud voice glorified God, 16 and fell down on his face at His feet, giving Him thanks. And he was a Samaritan. We see that only one came back to offer thanks, but in addition to that, he was a Samaritan! In those days, Samaritans were looked down upon in many ways. Yet, he was the one who was often on the receiving end of so much hatred was, in fact, the one who was the most thankful! As we enter this Holiday Season, some have often remarked that Thanksgiving is the “forgotten Holiday.” Unfortunately, it is often overlooked and forgotten for many of the same reasons the nine lepers continued their way. Perhaps they were so thrilled with their healing that they forgot about the one who healed them! That would be hard to believe, but possibly that was the case. Perhaps they went on their way to return sometime “real soon” to offer thanks, but first, they had to do other essential things. Procrastination could have been a reason. Possibly, they felt they were doing the right thing by obeying what Jesus told them to do in verse 14 when He said to “go and show themselves to the Priest.” He was the one who would declare them fully healed and grant permission to return to society. Whatever the reason, there was only one who felt compelled to the point that he changed direction to go back and thank the Lord for what He had done. During this Thanksgiving season, my prayer is that we will “take time” not only during the Holiday but throughout the year to return and say “thank you” to the one who saved our souls! When you sit down to eat that wonderful Thanksgiving meal, be sure to pause and thank Him for all His blessings! Ephesians 5:20 (NKJV) 20 giving thanks always for all things to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, [startSpeech r=Slow startSpeech][endSpeech] There are many vital Holidays, and I believe Thanksgiving should be right near the top of the list! (Christmas and Easter are fantastic too)! Thanksgiving blessings!

Halloween… that time of year when kids all go nuts, eat too much candy, and then crash after their sugar buzz wears off. But there's more to it than all that. Today on the Lifeschool podcast, we talk about what may be the lowest hanging fruit of the year when it comes to relationship building and intentional missional engagement with your neighbors. Halloween has some “dark history,” and many of us were taught that this was a holiday you were supposed to avoid if you are a Christian. But the truth behind this annual event may surprise you. There's no reason to miss out on this HUGE chance to bring redemption to your ‘hood. In This Episode You'll Learn: The history of Halloween and how the church may have actually invented it. How the Gospel redeems culture instead of avoiding it. Why Christians can and should participate with radical generosity. How to move beyond the costumes and “trick-or-treat” with your neighbors How discipleship and mission will be showing up at your doorstep this Halloween. 7 ideas on ways to be more intentional and missional this year. http://getpodcast.reviews/id/1209249450 (Get started here...) http://getpodcast.reviews/id/1209249450 () Regardless if you really love this tradition and go all out, or if you're less into the whole dress-up and party thing, and whether you call it Halloween, trick-or-treat, Harvest Party or whatever, you can leave a lasting impression on people and really prime the pump for future missional opportunities.  What “divine appointments” may show up on the other side of your front door? Each week the Big 3 will give you immediate action steps to get you started.https://caesarkalinowski.lpages.co/leadbox/1459e40f3f72a2%3A134ffec37346dc/5713430174498816/ ( )https://123lifeschool.clickfunnels.com/big-3-download ()Download today's https://123lifeschool.clickfunnels.com/big-3-download (BIG 3 right now).
