Cognitive distortions, or "stinkin' thinkin'" have a way of wreaking havoc with our lives if we let them. A cognitive distortion takes place in our minds when we experience an upsetting event in our lives & we think about it in a way that reinforces negativity & feeling bad. While some think that "feeling bad" is necessary to learn from mistakes, consistently thinking in this way can be unhelpful, even harmful & toxic. Stinkin' Thinkin' can be undone, but it takes effort, intentionality, & LOTS of practice. Join host Cynthia Corn as she covers 10 different exercises that will interrupt these negative thought patterns & help us move into a more authentic life with thoughts that are based in reality & truths. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/ownyour-ish/support
Does this sound familiar? We try something new, once, & subsequently fail...then the negative vortex starts spinning. "I tried & failed. I'm such a loser, I'll never be good enough for anything!" This kind of thinking is rooted in cognitive distortions which are distorted filters that our brain will apply to our lives & these filters convince us of something that is not actually true. These distortions usually reinforce our negative thinking & emotions. This can keep us "stuck in the yuck" & not allow us to fully live into our true, authentic selves. How do cognitive distortions show up in your life (did you even know they existed)? Can you recognize the thought patterns so you can interrupt & shift into thoughts that are based in reality? Join host, Cynthia Corn as she dives into the 15 most common cognitive distortions. With the knowledge of what cognitive distortions are, how they show up in our lives, & understanding the overall impact of this kind of negative thinking, we can begin to interrupt this cycle of negativity & align our thoughts with reality. Knowing when a cognitive distortion is taking over the way you think & speak to yourself can be detrimental. Get comfortable, grab a pen & some paper, & settle in for a show that will leave you thinking in a different way once you're done. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/ownyour-ish/support
