“One reason why it can feel so hard to listen to your body is because it is not normalized to move in a variety of ways that you would want to. There are certain ways of moving that are allowed or socially accepted but others are very rare to see. Therefore, it makes a lot of sense that we don't know what our body wants or can't listen to it because we always shut it down.” - David BantjeIn this episode, I'm joined by natural movement practitioner, and my loving partner, David Bantje. In this episode, he offers a refreshing, intuitive reframe on how we can shift our relationship to movement for a more liberated , and playful life. Rather than treating movement as a chore, isolated workout, or something we only do in designated spaces, David invites us to see movement as a birthright—something our bodies crave and have evolved to do in diverse, dynamic ways. He discusses how mainstream exercise culture, with its narrow focus and rigid intensity, can leave us disconnected from the deeper intelligence of our bodies. Instead, natural movement emphasizes accessibility, variety, injury prevention, and playfulness, allowing us to reconnect and reclaim our capacity for taking risks, curiosity, and aliveness. This isn't about perfection or discipline, but about attunement: giving our bodies the space to lead.In this episode we discuss:How chronic pain and injuries "stack up" from habitual postures and sedentary lifestylesWhat natural movement is, and how it helps realign us with what our bodies evolved to doThe limits of conventional fitness culture and why high-intensity, short bursts of exercise can do more harm than goodThe power of movement snacks—simple, frequent movements throughout the day—to support flexibility, awareness, and healingMovement as medicine in the context of illness, disability, and injury (including David's experience with a herniated disc)Relearning how to listen to your body, even when it doesn't communicate in languageWhy reclaiming natural movement can be a path not only to health—but to joy, agency, and freedomBioLinksDavid's Substack: https://davidbantje.substack.com/Katie Bowman: https://www.nutritiousmovement.com/Natural Movement Classes: https://movnat.com/Resources:Get the book: Mad Studies Reader: Interdisciplinary Innovations in Mental HealthBecome a member: The Institute for the Development of Human ArtsTrain with us: Transformative Mental Health Core CurriculumSessions & Information about the host: JazmineRussell.comDisclaimer: The DEPTH Work Podcast is for educational and entertainment purposes only. The Lens of Betrayal: Relearning How to See the Ones We Love In this thought-provoking episode of the Human Intimacy Podcast, Dr. Kevin Skinner and MaryAnn Michaelis explore how betrayal changes the way we see the people closest to us. When trust is broken, our brain naturally shifts into self-protection, filtering our perception through trauma, pain, and fear. Dr. Skinner shares personal stories and clinical insights to illuminate how resentment, grief, and disconnection can cloud our ability to see others clearly. Together, they discuss how healing requires slowing down, grounding the nervous system, and re-engaging the prefrontal cortex to ask deeper questions: Who is this person now? Am I ready to see them anew? The episode encourages listeners to examine their own emotional filters, make space for grief, and learn to see others—and themselves—with compassion, clarity, and maturity. This conversation offers hope, not through rushed reconnection, but through the power of perception and presence. At today's Special Interactive Service, Pastor Femi Paul kicked off a timely and thought-provoking new series titled “Learning, Unlearning & Re-learning!” Drawing wisdom from scripture, life, and global thought leaders, he unpacked the importance of being adaptable in our spiritual and personal growth journey. Referencing Matthew 11:28–29 (CEB) and Proverbs 15:32 (GNT), Pastor reminded us that learning is not just academic - it is the foundation of wealth, health, and spirituality. As John Rohn rightly said, “Learning is the beginning of everything.” But it doesn't end there. True transformation also involves unlearning what no longer serves us, and re-learning to align with God's evolving truths for our season. Quoting Alvin Toffler, Pastor Femi emphasised that the real illiterate today is not the one who cannot read or write, but the one who refuses to learn, unlearn, and re-learn. Many people get stuck because they “know too much,” live in self-delusion, or are closed off to new ideas. These mindsets limit growth and rob us of the opportunity to walk in wisdom. He challenged us to examine our hearts: Are we opinionated? Resistant to change? Afraid to face the real person in the mirror? If so, we may be holding ourselves back from the rest and renewal Christ offers when we humbly learn from Him.

What happens when life changes in an instant? When a truck runs a red light, and everything—from your language skills to your sense of self—must be relearned? This week on A Mental Health Break, we sit down with Adrienne Falcone Godsell, a traumatic brain injury (TBI) warrior and the founder of The Food Whisperer LLC, to explore her powerful story of resilience, self-discovery, and healing.Adrienne shares her journey of recovery after surviving a traumatic brain injury—from relearning how to speak and socialize, to accepting a new version of herself. She offers heartfelt advice for others navigating life post-TBI: "We have to accept our new 'us'—because we're never going to be the same ever again."But Adrienne's story doesn't stop at survival. Her passion for holistic health began at 16 with a hypoglycemia diagnosis and evolved into a lifelong mission of helping others through mindful eating. She shares how her food journey intertwined with her mental and emotional recovery, and how she now uses her skills to support healing from the inside out.In this episode, we discuss:
In this 5th week in reThinking Everything series, we're challenged to examine what's truly shaping our hearts and minds. Drawing from Colossians 3, we're reminded that transformation in Christ is not just about surface-level changes, but about becoming an entirely new person. The analogy of a secret apartment in a mall vividly illustrates how easily we can let harmful thoughts and habits take up residence in our lives without even realizing it. We're called to 'strip off the old self' and 'clothe ourselves with the new self,' a process that involves both 'digging down' to identify our idols and 'looking up' to set our minds on Christ. This message encourages us to consider: What have we allowed to move into our souls? Are we being transformed by Christ, or unintentionally shaped by the world around us? It's a call to intentional spiritual growth and a reminder that in Christ, we have the power to become the people we were truly meant to be.

Welcome to Monday Night Live Host Derek Arden welcomed networking expert Will Kintish for an insightful and practical chat, The session was packed with actionable tips, personal anecdotes, and thought-provoking advice to improve communication and networking skills in both social and professional settings. Here's a summary of the highlights: The Importance of Names and IntroductionsWill Kintish emphasized that many people struggle to remember names, so it's crucial to help others by clearly introducing yourself. A simple approach like pausing after your name—e.g., “Hello, my name is… Will Kintish”—gives people a moment to register it. He also noted how people often mirror the way you introduce yourself, so setting the tone with a clear and confident introduction can make a big difference. Asking Better QuestionsWill shared a valuable lesson learned from the late Queen Mother. Instead of asking, “What do you do?”—a question that can sometimes feel limiting—she reframed it to encourage more meaningful responses. For instance, replacing it with, “Tell me about what keeps you busy” allows for a broader and more engaging conversation. Will also highlighted the importance of talking about what you do in a way that focuses on the value you bring, rather than just stating your job title. The Power of Active ListeningA major theme of the discussion was listening carefully and attentively. Will reminded the audience to observe not only what people say but also their body language, as it often reveals more than words. Drawing from Dale Carnegie's principles, he underscored that letting others talk about themselves builds stronger connections. Will shared a personal anecdote about a dinner conversation where his genuine interest in someone else's story led to a memorable and engaging discussion. WAIT: Why Am I Talking? Will introduced the acronym WAIT—“Why Am I Talking?”—as a reminder to pause before dominating a conversation. This self-awareness is key to fostering meaningful interactions. He stressed the importance of balancing conversations by flipping the focus back to others after sharing your thoughts briefly. Avoiding ArgumentsOne of Will's golden rules is never to argue. Instead of engaging in disputes, he suggests offering alternative perspectives with kindness and respect. He mentioned how this approach, rooted in Dale Carnegie's principles, fosters more productive and harmonious relationships. Respect and Admitting MistakesThe conversation also touched on the importance of respect and accountability. Will recounted a personal story about a challenging situation in his charity work where someone's inability to admit mistakes strained their relationship. The lesson? Admitting and learning from mistakes goes a long way in maintaining trust and respect. Relearning the BasicsWill and Derek concluded that often, we don't need to learn new skills but rather relearn and practice fundamental principles. Whether it's showing genuine interest in others, asking thoughtful questions, or being a better listener, these timeless strategies remain relevant today. Key Takeaways:Names Matter: Help others remember your name by introducing yourself clearly and confidently.Ask Open-Ended Questions: Replace “What do you do?” with more engaging alternatives.Listen Actively: Pay attention to both words and body language, and let others share their stories.WAIT: Ask yourself “Why Am I Talking?” to ensure a balanced conversation.Avoid Arguments: Offer perspectives with respect and without conflict.Admit Mistakes: Accountability strengthens relationships and trust. Derek closed the session by thanking Will for sharing his wealth of experience and reminding viewers that sometimes hearing these lessons multiple times is essential to fully absorb them. The Joint Readiness Training Center is pleased to present the eighty-sixth episode to air on ‘The Crucible - The JRTC Experience.' Hosted by the Task Force Senior for the BDE Command & Control (BCT HQ), LTC Timothy Price on behalf of the Commander of Ops Group (COG). Today's guest is the Deputy Commander of Operations Group (DCOG), LTC Ian Ginty. As the DCOG, LTC Ginty primarily focuses on assisting units through the Reception, Staging, Onward Movement, and Integration (RSOI) process, facilitating sustainment operations, and providing leadership roles within the fictitious division staff as the BCTs higher headquarters. In this episode, we delve deeply into the often-overlooked yet critical role of wargaming within the military decision-making process (MDMP), emphasizing its importance as a tool to synchronize plans and anticipate operational challenges. Wargaming is not merely a procedural step but a vital exercise in critical thinking, requiring robust staff participation and commander leadership. Topics included the necessity of a well-developed enemy plan, staff synchronization, and the importance of understanding the cascading effects of operational decisions across all warfighting functions. The conversation also underscored the pitfalls of rushed or incomplete wargaming, which can lead to chaos and poor transitions during execution phases. We further explore the challenges and best practices for integrating wargaming into unit training, particularly at home-station. We highlight the importance of rehearsing wargaming with a rules-based approach to build staff experience and enhance their ability to identify and address points of friction. By conducting tabletop exercises and leveraging simulations, units can refine their processes, ensuring that gaps in synchronization and sustainment planning are addressed before field operations. The discussion reinforced that a disciplined approach to wargaming not only prepares units for combat but also develops critical thinkers who can adapt to the complexities of large-scale combat operations. In Exodus 2 & 3, we look at Moses' life in the second 40 years. We join Rabbi Jeff Zaremsky as he examines the choice Moses made to suffer affliction with the children of Israel and not the pleasures he could have enjoyed in Egypt. Do we have similar choices to make? How do we do that?
HELLO 2025!!In this episode, we talked about reflection while also reflection on ourselves.Reflection is one of the most important things for us to keep evolving. Understanding your emotions, triggers, mindset involve so much reflecting. We are constantly learning ourselves and will continue to learn ourselves as we grow older and meet new versions of ourselves along the way.As mothers, it's very important that we still prioritize our well being because not only do our kids need to live with that but so do we. Self care is childcare. We tend to carry the unhealed versions of ourselves into our adulthood & motherhood and that's okay, we just need to give our inner child the love and support that she deserves. We hope as you listen to this episode you realize that there is time for you to be the person and mother that you want to be. It may cause you to scream and cry and break down but YOU ARE CAPABLE!! We must give ourselves grace, time, patience, understanding, and love along the way. It might be uncomfortable, but that's only because we haven't done it yet.Self love and care is a lifelong journey, so take your time. You don't have to do it all this year. Do what you can.We love you!

When I think about it, alcohol shaped many aspects of my past relationships—starting with how I entered them. From first dates to emotional confessions, alcohol was always there, acting as a social lubricant, a confidence booster, and, often, a crutch. It blurred the lines between genuine connection and the convenience of shared intoxication. Many of my first social, emotional, and even physical experiences were steeped in alcohol, shaping not only how I saw others but also how I saw myself. Looking back now, through the clarity of sobriety, I can see how alcohol didn't just influence the dynamics of those relationships—it influenced my perception of love and what I thought I deserved. It allowed me to stay in situations where I was settling, mistaking temporary highs for lasting intimacy. Without it, I'm beginning to understand what real love looks like, starting with the love I show myself. I reflect on the clarity sobriety brings, the patterns I never noticed before, and the beauty of finally choosing to want more for myself. Key Takeaways: How alcohol shapes the dating culture, from first dates to deep emotional connections. The ways alcohol can create a false sense of intimacy, masking red flags and emotional disconnect. Relearning love and self-worth through sobriety, and understanding the kind of connection we truly deserve. Why our earliest experiences with alcohol and relationships can set the tone for patterns we carry into adulthood—and how we can break free from them. Join us in conversation with host Andrew Marcus and guest Matt Smethurst as we walk through passages like Matthew 7:1, John 7:24, 1 Corinthians 5:12, and 1 Corinthians 6 to learn how to show grace and humility in our judgements amidst church feuds and false teachers.

“I've been very present to the fact that there have been these huge, huge joys. But every time I meet a huge joy, it just drops me deeper into the grief, which is part of what I always say about grief. The more you open yourself to the joy, the more you open yourself to the grief and vice versa. So that kind of feels like where my journey has been this summer.” ~ Naila Francis In this episode, inspired by our conversation with grief activist, author and podcast host Lisa Keefauver, we reflect on where our journeys have taken us these last few months, including the grief we're both living with. As we invite you into these personal experiences, we share the ways grief continues to surprise and teach us — and how challenging it can be to lean into those lessons that come ‘round again and again. Given all the wisdom Lisa shared with us from her new book, “Grief is A Sneaky Bitch” (also the title of her podcast) in the previous episode, we also explore some of the threads that most resonated with us, especially the value of seeking support, which can be tricky to do when you're the one often giving it. We're so grateful for Lisa's work challenging conventional narratives around grief. And we invite you to consider the narratives you hold around loss, how they might be impacting you and how you care for yourself and others in times of grief. STARTING SEPT 12th!! Anchored into Authenticity Group Program: https://tarynrachel.thrivecart.com/anchored-into-authenticity-program/ -------------------------------------- ABOUT TODAY'S EPISODE: Are you afraid of men? Maybe you wouldn't say that, but statistically it is incredibly common for women (and men!) to have some sort of historical encounter with men that caused them to feel unsafe, which can often translate to a subtle fear of or judgement of men in general. Unfortunately, it doesn't stay there, and will leak over onto your relationship to God as well. But have no fear (haha, no pun intended), in today's episode Taryn Marchena is talking with us through a powerful look at how we are meant to pursue healing in those relationships where fear surfaces, and how Men carry a very special power to reconnect women to SAFETY and security. This NOT a man-bashing episode... quite the opposite, we call out the goodness and greatness inside of most men and cast a vision for how essential their role is in healing the women they interact with. Literal superhero powers they may not realize they have. So, men, women, you're going to want to listen to this one! (and send it to a friend too, because yes, she needs to listen to it.) ABOUT GUEST: Taryn is a community activator, teacher and elder at her church and a businesstry owner. She reconnects you to trust after trauma; guiding you to find your anchor so you can live from who you want to be. Last year she worked with over 115 clients 1-on-1 as they broke away from the lies of their past and rediscovered safety. Kayaking on a Colorado lake at sunset and narrating her opinions as she watches Survivor with her daughter and husband are her two favorite pass times. This week we will be studying Galatians 6:1-10 under the theme “Doing Gospel Good”. God works through each of us in a different way, and we are to examine ourselves and take responsibility for what He asks us to do. God also calls each of us to sow good, spiritual seeds in this life, so that the harvest may be reaped in our next, eternal life. SERIES SUMMARY: Galatians is written to believers who were allowing the gospel to become distorted in their lives. Influential teachers were causing them to focus more on themselves and their obedience than on Christ's deliverance. In this series, we'll learn that everything in a fallen world is fighting to drive us further into self-focus. But the beauty of Christ pulls our eyes to him, healing our self-inflicted wounds, and liberating us to love and serve others. Preston Perry joins us today and we're taking a deep dive into relearning emotional safety after trauma, why grief is a gift to receive, how therapy has become trendy (but not automatically effective), and why suffering purifies and strengthens us. Preston has such a unique take on life. Growing up, the streets of Chicago were his home, and it was there that he encountered all sorts of people who had their own versions of the truth. That's where Preston discovered not only the importance of the truth but how to tell the truth in a way that speaks to someone's heart and leads them to freedom and transformation. In the latest installment of Casual August, writer and educator Larissa Phillips joins the pod to respond to the August 2 interview with Vanessa Grigoriadis, who theorized that childless cat ladies were secretly happier than moms, especially moms raising young children while caring for aging parents. Larissa related to much of what Vanessa said, but she had several things to add, including her later-in-life recognition that early motherhood makes more sense than later-in-life motherhood — and, what's more, single motherhood might not be as cool and easy as 1980s media made it out to be. A GenXer who grew up steeped in second-wave feminism, Larissa now advises her 20-something daughter to marry and start a family early, which is pretty much the opposite of what her own mom advised. In this conversation, Larissa (who was a guest on A Special Place In Hell back in March) explores how her thinking evolved, why her friends were shocked when she got pregnant at 29 (practically a teen mom!), how divorce rates in the 1970s and 80s made an entire generation wary of the nuclear family, and why she invokes Jordan Peterson when she explains to her daughter that being “high value” has a lot to do with being young. She and Meghan also wrestle with whether the hyper-professional, hyper-independent feminist ethos internalized by Gen Xers and millennials will end up being something of a blip in time in the history of civilization. Larissa also talks about joining The Unspeakeasy at its upcoming retreat in Woodstock, NY this October. GUEST BIO Larissa Phillips is the founder and director of the Volunteer Literacy Project, a NPO that teaches reading to adults using a phonics-based curriculum. She also runs an educational program on her family farm in Upstate New York.
