Pursuing the Kingdom of Heaven
The Bible says that our gifts and calling are irrevocable - but our gifts can also grow and our calling goes upward. The Bible also says that our appointing can change abruptly. These transitions in appointing, calling and gifting provide opportunities for us to grow in faith, personal identity and into the alignment of who we are and what we do. In this podcast, Steve and Wayne discuss how we can embrace and grow through the transitions we may face. In our previous podcast, we introduced four types of leaders from 2 Timothy 2:2 and the leadership necessary to learn to serve others well. We looked at the roles of Doers, Managers, Leaders and Leaders of Leaders. In this podcast we look in detail at the roles of Leaders and leaders of leaders and the transitions that we need to make in going from a manager to a leader and from a leader to a leader of leaders. We look at the leadership styles that are crucial for these two roles. The reality is that no-one is purely one role or another and even leaders of leaders are still required to be doers, managers and leaders. Being a servant leader means that you need to adjust your behaviour to be helpful to different types of people. As a part of serving others, there are 4 main management and leadership roles that we can learn. Paul refers to these in 2 Timothy 2:2 as himself (which we'll call a "leader of leaders"), Timothy (which we'll call a "leader"), faithful men (which we'll call a "manager") and others (which we'll call "doers"). Each of these 4 roles has different ways of serving. In this first of a two-part podcast, Steve and Wayne look at serving others through "Doing" and "Managing", the actions we need to learn, the leadership styles we should adopt and the transitions that are necessary from being a "doer" to a "manager" Some resources referred to in this podcast include - Online courses: https://www.udemy.com/user/wayneback/ General resources: https://www.heaveninspain.com/resources-recursos.html Books by Wayne Back: www.amazon.com/stores/author/B006UYLA86/allbooks Music by - Dave Osorio - Peruvian Woods
Churches have a variety of role expectations on leaders and not all of these expectations help people to enter the kingdom. In this podcast, we look at the church as a spiritual house, as a family and as a body and discuss how leaders can help the church in these three things. We include a discussion on how church hierarchical structures can work against the church operating as a family and as a body Some resources referred to in this podcast include - Online courses: https://www.udemy.com/user/wayneback/ General resources: https://www.heaveninspain.com/resources-recursos.html Books by Wayne Back: www.amazon.com/stores/author/B006UYLA86/allbooks Music by - Dave Osorio - Peruvian Woods
In this podcast, Steve and Wayne look at some of the subtle ways that christian leaders can use control tactics (What Jesus called "The leaven of Herod") They examine how these tactics discourage people from entering the kingdom. Whenever we fill a leadership role, by definition we are aiming to help others to go in a particular direction. True Kingdom leaders therefore help others to enter the kingdom. Religious leaders, however, aim to get others to fit into the structure, systems and culture of their particular religious organisation. In this podcast, Steve and Wayne examine how Jesus criticised the religious leadership of the Pharisees and apply that to some common practices of today's religious leaders. In perhaps Jesus's most damning criticism, he said that the Pharisees stopped those who were already entering from going in further. This is reason for all christian leaders to stop and reflect on the outcomes of their leadership Some resources referred to in this podcast include - Online courses: https://www.udemy.com/user/wayneback/General resources: https://www.kingdomculture.com.au/Books by Wayne Back: www.amazon.com/stores/author/B006UYLA86/allbooks Music by - Dave Osorio - Peruvian Woods
In this episode Steve and Wayne continue the series on Kingdom Leadership by focusing on the need for Kingdom Leaders to enter the Kingdom themselves. Kingdom Leaders get no special entry priviledges. They need to enter for their own benefit as well as to know how to help others. In this journey they also need to know the difference between seeing, entering and inheriting the kingdom as well as practice the keys to the kingdom. Steve and Wayne cover these issues and more in this podcast. Jesus made it clear that all leaders in the kingdom should lead through serving and that they resist the use of their authority. Since people and situations in which a leader is present vary, they should be able to adopt different styles of leadership to serve others. The New Testament says very little on the topic of leadership so we need to pay extra attention to what it does say. Unfortunately, much of the teaching and current practice of church leadership has more of its basis in the military and heirarchial structures than it does in the Scriptures. In this podcast Steve and Wayne begin a series on kingdom leadership where we discuss 4 of the key elements of that identifies kingdom leaders. One of them, leading without the use of authority represents a great challenge to existing leaders. Everyone who experiences the Kingdom of Heaven also must contend with religious attitudes that keep them and other people from experiencing more of the Kingdom. Some of these religious attitudes have been built over centuries or millennia and some have been established more recently. Jesus's disciples were not established religious leaders yet also showed emergent religious attitudes that Jesus needed to address. In this podcast, Steve and I look at the harmful nature of religion as well as four emergent religious attitudes the disciples showed that we also need to guard against. From beginning to end, the Bible can and should be viewed as an account of God bringing Heaven on Earth. Creation, man, the Garden of Eden, the tabernacle, Jesus and the New Jerusalem are all copies and shadows of heavenly realities. Therefore, we can understand more about the unseen realms by how they manifest in the seen. Steve and Wayne unpack this further in this podcast. Our spirit, soul and body can all "touch the surface" of the spiritual realm and as a result people have spiritual experiences. These experiences can be felt spiritually and/or emotionally and/or mentally and/or physically. Our natural world exists in a limited set of dimensions within the greater reality of the Kingdom. Therefore, our contact with this greater reality of the KIngdom can be thought of in the same way as a person living within a painting engages with the greater space that the painting sits in. They would experience the greater reality by how it engages with the surface of the painting. When Acts 17:27 says we "feel our way towards Him", it uses a word that means "to rub or touch the surface". We have spiritual expereinces when our spirit, soul and body "touches the surface" of the spirit realm. In this podcast, Steve and Wayne explore the nature of the spiritual life ans we engage "at the surface".
