We're back with the start of our summertime summer camp series. Each year since college, they've been going on a girls' trip together to reconnect and renew their unbreakable friendship. But this year, the three ladies get kidnapped by Ike and Addley who drag them off into the forest to torment them for the pleasure of their dear old Mom. Happy Cinco de Mayo everyone! Turns out there's a cheesy, campy slasher movie from 2013 called "Cinco de Mayo" and so we covered it! It's the story of El Maestro, or Mr. Valdez. He's a Mexican Studies teacher at the college. When El Maestro gets fired and mercilessly ridiculed by those around him, he snaps. He unleashes his "Aztec Bloodlust" and goes on a killing spree just in time for the holiday. This week we jumped into another 80s style slasher classic with "Funeral Home." Alternate title "Cries in the Night" and we'll discuss all that today too. The story centers around Heather, who is visiting her grandmother to help get her Bed and Breakfast business off the ground. You see, Grandma and Grandpa used to run the community's funeral home. But when Grandpa disappeared, Grandma was forced to turn it into a B&B to make ends meet. While Heather is there to help, some of the guests start to go missing. It's the story of a group of friends who start out celebrating graduation, but end up trying to cover up a murder. Because there were points where we had no idea what was going on or why. Light on backstory, but heavy on content to make fun of. They're training hard for the Nationals competition with hopes to make it to the Olympics. But someone is stalking the athletes killing them one by one using a javelin as their weapon of choice. I won't spoil anything here, but this movie ends up having some very relevant topics currently in discussion in today's sports world. We continued our journey in the "Terrifier" series with "Terrified 2" from 2022. Art the Clown is back and it's gorier than ever. As tradition holds, in most slasher movies, the sequel has to ramp up the gore factor. This movie does not disappoint in that regard. Art is a master psycho clown killer and very good at torturing and ultimately killing his victims in very gruesome fashion. But we get more questions than answers in this one and we were left 'turned off' by some of the supernatural stuff in this movie. Maybe "Terrifier 3" will help tie up loose ends. We finally went to "Art Class" this week and watched "Terrifier" from 2016. Here at SlashU we try to educate you on the cheesy, campy, and sometimes forgotten slasher/horror movies. But I think it's safe to say this one is on everyone's radar these days. So it's not very forgotten, however it still fits the mold of cheesy/campy. Well Students, we heard this one was good. Upon review, we're not so sure everyone was truthful with us. We tackled "All Hallows Eve" from 2013. It's the movie that brought us the now infamous Art the Clown from the "Terrifier" series. So your professors thought we'd go see what all the hub-bub was about. We were not impressed. This anthology movie contains three separate stories within a larger story. It's a great framework for a slasher movie, there's no doubt about that. But we were just confused by the point of the three separate stories. No one said we're very smart though. This week we were at our first Horror Convention. It was Horror Fiesta in Peoria, Illinois. It was also the first horror convention for the town! So we were happy to be in on the ground floor as Peoria builds up and honors their horror/slasher community. On this week's episode, we're bringing you another special interview. We sat down with Calvin Marie McCarthy, the writer/director of "Pillow Party Massacre." He talked to us about making that movie as well as tons of other projects. We discussed his time working on low-budget horror, working with a familiar cast and crew of people, and how he thinks this genre has evolved over time. We went pretty basic this week and also handled our first Creature Feature. Still a Slasher movie at heart, we talked about "Don't F*** in the Woods." It's a very simple movie premise. A group of campers are in the forest for a weekend of partying. Anyone who engages in intercourse becomes victim to a creature attracted by sex. And that's it. This week we found another goofy, campy slasher to dive into. It's "Slashorette Party" from 2020. The story centers around Brie, a young bride-to-be who might be having a case of cold feet. Her friends throw her a surprise Bachelorette Party in a cabin out in the woods. But they get surprised by uninvited guests who begin picking off the partygoers. It's a slow burn at first but then it cuts loose. We're back to wrap up Shark Week here on SlashU. Another year, another couple of bad Shark movies in the books. This week we took on 2016's "Planet of the Sharks." It's another one where climate change has melted all the ice and 98% of the planet is covered in water. Sharks are the dominant species on the face of the earth and they've formed a massive super school. All the sharks are being controlled by a mutated Alpha Shark. A team of humans must band together to fight off the sharks while trying to launch a rocket into the atmosphere to clean off excess CO2 and help bring back some land to live on. It's time again for Shark Week here on SlashU, where we each take a pick at a cheesy, campy, sometimes terrible movie where a Shark is the killer. This week is professor Nick's pick, Ice Sharks from 2016. A group of scientists are studying climate change at a remote research station in the Arctic. They soon discover that warming waters have allowed a new breed of sharks to invade the area, picking off any living thing that comes too close to the edge of the ice. But since this movie is not nearly as good as the 1982 classic, I'm sure no one got sued over it. Our story centers around a group of friends trying to move past an April Fools' Day prank gone wrong from 2 years ago. But a killer holding a grudge isn't ready to leave the past behind. He's an aspiring director and he's got the perfect film for Jana. But he's a nobody. So Vinny gets to Cannes Film Festival in France to try and pitch his movie to Jana. Only he discovers he has to go through agents and producers, and Jana's ex-husband Bret. And people start getting killed left and right.
