With several weekends already sold out, organizers of the Renaissance Faire at Lake Anna Winery say tickets are going fast as the event continues through June 7. Cornelia Rutherford, Aileen Carrier and Karen Carrier joined us with an update on the popular Faire, which now has limited online only tickets remaining for its final two weekends. Organizers said this weekend is completely sold out. The Oregon Renaissance Faire draws over 75,000 visitors and generates millions each year, but behind the scenes, workers have been sounding the alarm on unsafe working conditions. After whistleblowers filed OSHA complaints, inspectors found six safety violations, including head injuries and poor machinery training. Some workers also claim retaliation. This episode kicks off in the middle of a laundry detergent catastrophe. Someone, perhaps a cat, knocked over a Costco size container that then broke and spilled on the floor. Let's just say the noises coming from the other room really emphasize that someone was going through it having to clean it up. Tamara was just getting back from spending the night and day at the Renaissance Faire. Throwing axes and having the best time! Rheannon this year did approve of her outfit and effort more this year than last year. Tamara did not complete her homework of starting a new show, but she did at least get started. Rheannon is on board being a wing woman as Tamara get's into golfing and wondering if that is a way to meet guys. Let's just say much like this episode it will probably go downhill fast. 

Renaissance fairs have long been a place for workers and visitors alike to find community amid the trappings of a fictional medieval town. “Merchants” bring their wares to hawk, while various “guilds” provide the entertainment, from jousting to smithing to demonstrating medieval textile arts.   But some longtime guild workers at the Washington Midsummer Renaissance Faire have pulled out of the festival due to what they describe as bad management and poor working conditions. They say the organization that puts on the fair – which also operates the Oregon Renaissance Faire and Oregon Celtic Festival – has prioritized profits over maintaining the sense of community that workers and volunteers value. Nathalie Graham is a former freelance reporter who now writes for The Seattle Stranger. She looked into these complaints in a recent article for InvestigateWest and joins us with more details.
