What began with simple gestures—singing carols, shouting holiday greetings across trenches, and placing candles on trees—turned into something remarkable as troops cautiously came out into “no man's land.” Instead of bullets, they shared food, exchanged small gifts, showed pictures of family, and even played friendly soccer matches. They also used the moment to bury their dead with dignity and mourn together. Formerly a Board member, today she serves on the Trail Leadership Council of the Partnership for the National Trails System and has served as the Chair of the Federal Advisory Committee to aid the USFS in the development of the Pacific Northwest National Scenic Trail.
