Send us a textTired of wasting time and money on hiring the wrong people? Dr. Michael Neal knows your pain. As both an optometrist running his own practice and the founder of Build My Team, he's cracked the code on finding and keeping top talent without the traditional headaches. The journey began in rural Alberta, Canada, where Dr. Neal grew up in a town so small it didn't even have a traffic light. His path to entrepreneurship started unexpectedly as a high school co-op student working as a secretary in an eye care office (a position he admits he was terrible at). What drew him to optometry was the perfect combination of helping people while running a business. But like so many healthcare professionals and business owners, Dr. Neal found himself trapped in the nightmare of constant hiring and rehiring. "Talk to any doctor who's in their own practice. It's the number one problem we all face," he explains. After pulling out his hair in frustration, he began studying how elite hospitality companies like Disney and Four Seasons hired their exceptional staff. What he discovered fundamentally changed his approach: ditch the resumes, stop trying to "fix" mediocre performers, and focus instead on natural strengths and talents. "Using resumes to hire entry-level positions is a complete waste of time," Dr. Neal asserts. "What does a resume actually tell you? The answer is nothing, virtually nothing."Perhaps most surprising is Dr. Neal's counterintuitive advice on experience: for most entry-level positions, you're actually better off hiring someone without experience. Why? Because experienced hires bring bad habits that need to be "untrained" before they can adapt to your way of doing things. The impact of proper hiring extends beyond just individual performance. As Dr. Neal explains, "A players on a team only want to work with A players. They'll tolerate B players, but as soon as you ask them to work with a C player, they're gone." Want to transform your company culture? Start by hiring better people.Ready to transform your hiring process? Visit buildmyteam.com to schedule a free consultation and learn how their assessment-based approach can help you find the right people with 97% certainty.Support the showThanks for listening & being part of the Mindset Cafe Community.----------------------------------------------Connect With Devan:https://www.devangonzalez.com/connect----------------------------------------------Follow On Instagram https://www.instagram.com/devan.gonzalez/https://www.instagram.com/mindsetcafepodcastLet me know what topics or questions you want covered so we can help you achieve your goals faster.----------------------------------------------P.S. If you're feeling that familiar weight of disappointment about what didn't get accomplished this year, you're not alone. In this episode of the Art of Homeschooling, I discuss why shifting our focus toward what did happen strengthens the learning, builds connections, and creates positive momentum in our homeschools. When we celebrate progress, our brains release dopamine, which strengthens neural pathways and cements learning in ways that help reinforce the learning. You've accomplished more than you realize. Celebrating allows you and your kiddos to embrace progress over perfection!Find the Show Notes here  https://artofhomeschooling.com/episode228/Check out all the ways I can help you here.Send Jean a text message.Support the showThanks for listening!

What's up with the energy of June?  This month blends fire, water, and air vibes — perfect for movement, reflection, and realignment.  In the first part of the month, we balance the energy of Gemini.  This energy keeps the mind active, your schedule full, and the nervous system buzzing from all sorts of information flying around. Conversations, media, television, and more reveal much as we witness the falling of an old paradigm.  It's easy to become lost in distractions, overthinking, or trying to keep up with everything at once because this energy lingers in your head, throat, and thoughts. Yet, that is Gemini's gift—the power of choice in motion.June 20th, we move into Cancer season, bringing depth to our emotions and exploring more reflective parts of our being.  It's midyear, and the Summer Solstice provides a push at midyear to shift and align.  June is generally known as the sixth month in numerology. June's collective numerology for 2025 is "6, " representing love, nurturing, responsibility, and balance. It is also a month associated with service and compassion, embracing self-expression, and balancing the material and spiritual worlds.  The energy pushes us to look at humanitarianism, domesticity, and social responsibility. It's a month of visibility and choice. Listen as Laurie gives an overview, followed by information for each sign as we begin June in Gemini Season and leave the month in Cancer season—through the gateway of the sun. Send us a textSupport the showThanks for listening - For questions or comments email Laurie at Laurie@yourlifecore.comInstagram @yourlifecore or Twitter @yourlifecore Facebook https://www.facebook.com/YourLifecoreWebsite www.yourlifecore.com

Let me know your thoughts on the show and what topic you would like me to discuss next. Many men struggle with outdated expectations of masculinity, creating disconnection from purpose, relationships, and self while carrying the weight of social norms that no longer serve them. Jason Lange joins us to explore how embracing men's work, uncovering shadow elements, and building supportive relationships can help men reclaim their vitality and purpose.• Shadow work involves making the unconscious conscious, bringing to awareness what might be running your life without your knowledge• The "man box" confines men to behaviors like never showing emotion, never asking for help, and always appearing tough• Studies show men who strongly identify with traditional masculine values are more likely to commit suicide• Loneliness and isolation are as harmful to health as smoking a pack and a half of cigarettes daily• The "fierce, loving masculine heart" offers a third path beyond macho jerk and passive nice guy• Integration of masculine and feminine energies creates wholeness regardless of gender• Community builds resilience—men need other men to model healthy masculinity• Many men push themselves with strategies and goals while ignoring their dysregulated nervous systems• Connection and rest often naturally lead to renewed motivation and energyJoin a men's group or find ways to build deeper connections with other men. Send us a textTransformational coach Arlene Miller opens up about her remarkable journey from high-pressure attorney to mindfulness expert in this captivating conversation about authentic work-life harmony. After decades practicing law while raising a family, Arlene shares the moment she recognized her burnout wasn't just fatigue—it was a call to completely reimagine her relationship with herself and her career. The discussion quickly moves beyond standard self-care advice into practical techniques anyone can implement immediately. Arlene introduces simple yet powerful breathwork practices that physiologically shift your nervous system from stress to calm without requiring extra time in your day. "We forget to breathe," she notes, explaining how this foundational practice creates space for deeper transformation. Most compelling is Arlene's framework for breaking free from self-judgment—what she calls the hamster wheel of negativity. Rather than promoting quick fixes, she advocates for consistent awareness, explaining how recognizing our inner critic allows us to embrace our role as our own inner coach instead. This perspective shift transforms how we approach challenges, setbacks, and even past wounds, creating pathways for genuine healing and growth. The conversation takes an unexpected turn when exploring boundaries, with Arlene challenging conventional wisdom about how we protect our energy. "We set our boundaries based on how the other person is," she explains, offering a refreshing perspective on maintaining strong boundaries even with those closest to us. This approach allows us to share love from our overflow rather than depleting ourselves by absorbing others' negative emotions.Whether you're facing burnout, struggling with self-criticism, or seeking more authentic connections, Arlene's insights provide a roadmap for creating meaningful change through self-awareness, intentional breathing, and unconditional self-love. A conversation with Austin Unruh, founder of Trees for Graziers, about the investment case for silvopasture. What if we could plant hundreds of millions of trees on degraded, low-value pasture land and make money from it? What if we planted trees that are beneficial for livestock—ruminants, pigs, and poultry? The market for meat and animal products is fairly stable (unless we get a massive breakthrough in precision fermentation soon, but that's hard to predict). Trees can dramatically lower costs and increase production.Austin argues that this is the best entry point to get many more trees into the landscape. When chosen well, these trees provide shade (a basic need), but more importantly, they offer feed during the most difficult periods of the year—like high summer, or specific fruits that drop in the autumn, full of sugar and energy, just as cows prepare for the colder winter months. Especially with pasture-raised pigs and poultry, you can save massively on expensive (organic) feed, which is mostly grain. And as a bonus, pastures grow better with partial shade.More about this episode on https://investinginregenerativeagriculture.com/austin-unruh.==========================In Investing in Regenerative Agriculture and Food podcast show we talk to the pioneers in the regenerative food and agriculture space to learn more on how to put our money to work to regenerate soil, people, local communities and ecosystems while making an appropriate and fair return. Next week on Zen Commuter, we begin our popular Tricycle Week, a five-episode series where we explore and reflect on selected articles from Tricycle: The Buddhist Review. It's a listener favorite and a perfect opportunity to dive deeper into the teachings of contemporary Buddhist writers. Today's episode offers a preview with “The Kamma of Goodwill” by Thanissaro Bhikkhu, first published in 2022. In this thoughtful piece, we explore three key ideas: how goodwill is an intentional and skillful kamma (or action) that shapes our inner and outer world, why true goodwill requires wisdom and discernment rather than blind acceptance, and how developing this quality supports both personal peace and wise engagement with others. Be sure to tune in next week for a full week of insight and inspiration from the pages of Tricycle.   Meditation Coaching Schedule Time with Thom (Complimentary consultation)   THANKS FOR LISTENING!
