We break down the over-the-top kills, practical effects, and old-school horror vibes that make Hatchet a cult favorite. Was it just mindless fun, or is there more hiding beneath the blood and guts? Plus, as always, expect some unexpected tangents, hot takes, and laughs along the way.Grab your boat ride tickets and prepare to enter the bayou... You Have Been Warned.
Overview We don't do a lot of sequels on the Horror Lasagna podcast. Sequels tend to not fit the mold for us telling you about the best horror movies you haven't seen. In our Director Rehash though, we made an exception for Victor Crowley. The Hatchet series is worth the inclusion though. We both loved […] The post Season 05 Episode 09 – Victor Crowley appeared first on Horror Lasagna.

From a bullied kid growing up in Alabama who realized he had the ability to make people laugh… to becoming a teacher and quickly realizing that he got more fulfillment out of entertaining his students than actually teaching them… to going through a difficult period of hardships that ultimately pushed him to go after his dream of acting rather than playing life safe… to being the understudy for Stefán Karl Stefánsson in “The Grinch” and performing in other small roles… to the literal “flip of a coin” that saw him lose out on one role but gain the opportunity to become the now iconic “Art the Clown”… to his process of transforming into “Art” and how he comes up with many of the characters' mannerisms based on feel and only once on the actual set… to how his stage experience in theater has made him find “method acting” unnecessary for his own process in his film roles… to what it's really like on set when he's shooting such violent sequences and the kill in TERRIFIER 3 that almost made him throw up on set… to getting canned from performing a voice for a children's show halfway through the season when the producers realized that he was the same actor who played “Art the Clown” in TERRIFIER… to his ongoing prank war with Kane Hodder (“Victor Crowley”) at conventions and the incredible love that fans have shown him at appearances… to his close brush with tragedy during the making of STREAM and specific signs from the universe that have reminded him that he is indeed on the right path… David's journey to icon status is certainly one for the horror history books! A recovery team heads to the Honey Island Swamp to search for any survivors as Marybeth discovers the secret to putting an end to the curse of Victor Crowley. Spooky Season is upon us and it only makes sense to kick off October with Victor Crowley. Hatchet III is another fun sequel from this slasher series that always turns up the kills and the fun. In this film, a search and rescue team attempt to look for the whereabouts of any survivors after the events of the previous movie. While the focus is a bit different, the theme of large groups of people heading to the Honey Island Swamp and getting horribly murdered by Victor Crowley remains the same. From growing up in Australia in the 80's as fans of cinema and the movies that inspired them to pursue a career in filmmaking… to the late night talk shows, hosts, and famous moments in television that inspired their script for LATE NIGHT WITH THE DEVIL… to the challenges they faced crafting a story set entirely in one location and implementing a “found footage/documentary” style… to the various technical nuances and camera tricks they used to present the film in as realistic a way as possible… to how they work together as both brothers and filmmakers… to the social media backlash the duo faced over using A.I. technology to generate a few of the film's graphics (and WHEN that decision was actually made)… Cameron and Colin take us deep behind the scenes of one of the year's most talked about horror films and their devilish late night journey together. Meet Adam Green at Texas Frightmare Weekend in Irvine, TX May 17th - 19th where he'll be appearing alongside Kane Hodder, Danielle Harris, and FX artist Robert Pendergraft from the HATCHET franchise and offering the first ever “Victor Crowley” photo op! Visit www.TexasFrightmareWeekend.com for details.
We have a number of pop culture interests outside our beloved genre. Our fandom in the wonderful world of comic books outdates our residency in Metaldom. Indie comic companies have been clamoring to present stories about and inspired by current Metal artists. There have been some cool crossover stories as well. Think Elvira meets Vincent Price. So we took our love of "funny books" and thought up some cool crossovers featuring our fave Metal artists. How about Misfits/Scooby Doo, Gwar/XMen and Henry Rollins vs. Wolverine. The ideas are endless. In our "News, Views and Tunes", we lost another Punk legend and regret WrestleMania. Musically, we crank some Tyr, Thor, Trespass, Drop Dead, Witch Hazel, Victor Crowley and Personality Crisis. Horns Up!!
This next guest is probably best know for her portrayal of lead character Angela Baker (at 13 years old) in a little controversial film at the time that has elicited a myriad of responses and interpretations over the years, with some of the reactions to the film have included accusations of sensationalism & transphobic exploitation. That film is Sleepaway Camp, but she has certainly done so much more during her career like such films as Victor Crowley, Terrifier 2, Camp Dread & others. Let's welcome, Ms. Felissa Rose! Screenwriter Nick Shafir (I.S.S.) joins Adam, Joe, and Arwen in the ArieScope Studio to discuss his journey to becoming a working screenwriter with a film that's currently playing in theaters all across the country. From a dyslexic aspiring writer living in New York City who discovered THE MOVIE CRYPT podcast back in 2014 and drew his own personal inspiration from it… to paying his dues at various jobs including being the writer's assistant to the staff of a major network TV series where he was expected to fix toilets and once reprimanded for “walking too loud”… to selling his sci-fi screenplay I.S.S. during the pandemic and what it was like handing his baby off to a creative team and a production process that he wouldn't be directly involved with from day to day… to why he believes it would be a disservice for an aspiring filmmaker to NOT go through both the wonderful highs and the soul crushing lows that accompany most every artist's journey… to what it's really like surviving for 6 months or more without a paycheck in sight yet not throwing in the towel and giving up on your dream… to how exactly Nick took his brilliant single location concept and crafted a complex character driven sci-fi thriller… to the research that he needed to do to believably write a story about scientists living on the space station… to the nonstop anxiety and constant self-doubt that an artist endures while hoping and praying that somehow someone somewhere will discover and recognize your talent… to the triumphant moment of having I.S.S. world premiere at the prestigious Tribeca film festival only to not even be allowed to step foot on the red carpet or talk about the movie due to the WGA strike… we've been waiting and waiting (and waiting) to share Nick's story with you all and the time has finally come! Also, Dr. Arwen provides “Hollywood Therapy” for a writer in search of tips on how to improve the dialogue in their screenplays which turns into a super in-depth 20 minute discussion on writing character's with unique voices. Adam Green is the creator and writer of the Hatchet franchise, and he shares some great stories about Hollywood, and what it took to get Hatchet made! He details his battle against the MPAA over Hatchet's NC-17 rating, and how that loss completely changed his movie and his life. He reveals what inspired the Victor Crowley character and look, how he comes up with the crazy, gruesome kills for each sequel, and what it took to get horror genre greats like Kane Hodder, Robert Englund, and Tony Todd involved in Hatchet. He breaks down the practicality behind some of his grossest kills like the double chainsaw murder and Tony Todd literally being ripped right out of his skin. And he explains what really happened with Eli Roth and Cabin Fever 2.
