FULL VERSION. Filmmaker Doug Roos (BAKEMONO) joins Adam and Joe in the ArieScope studio to discuss his international career journey and shooting his latest film in Japan. From seeing ALIENS at age 6 and falling in love with genre cinema… to his fascination with making his own monsters and starting out with nothing but clear plastic bags and a flashlight… to making his first short film at 12 years old and why 1993's CARNOSAUR was such an inspiration to him… to making films in China before relocating to Japan where he has been living for the last 7 years… to being told “it's too expensive to shoot a movie in Japan” and accepting the statement as a challenge… to learning about the dark side of Tokyo from actor friends and conceiving the idea for BAKEMONO… to how he made the incredible creature effects himself on an extremely limited budget and why he chose to tell the story of BAKEMONO in a “non-linear” structure… to why he waited to crowd fund the film until he already had footage to show the world… to the hurdles of promoting his film through his own efforts and positive word of mouth alone, Doug is an inspiration for anyone out there who is tired of waiting for permission and ready to make their own movie happen. The Murder Of The Butcher Pops Wagner Jump To The AD-FREE SAFE HOUSE EDITIONEpisode 117 tells the story of sweet 16-year-old Lena Theresa Neinstedt, known as Terry, a pretty eighth-grade dropout with a habit of stealing government checks out of neighborhood mailboxes. A wild child of the streets of New York, young Terry also had a habit of carrying a knife -- to keep the wolves from pawing her, she said. When she lost the knife, she discovered a small hatchet around the house that fit nicely in her patent leather handbag. Yeah, that's not gonna end well. The Trump Administration has rescinded a rule related to the Hatch Act that now allows federal employees to wear campaign paraphernalia. That is only if the items are not in support of a person who is actively running for office. That may be confusing as potential candidates don't seem to ever stop campaigning in this era of influencer and branding. For some explanation of this move and what it could potentially mean for the Hatch Act overall, Federal News Network's Eric White spoke with Michael Fallings, Managing Partner at the law firm Tully Rinckey.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Black Sunday (1960), Blood and Black Lace (1964), and A Bay of Blood (1971) There are films by certain directors that are truly iconic—classics of the genre we sometimes assume everyone has already seen. But it's easy to forget that, right now, there are fans just beginning their journey into horror. Whether due to age or a newfound curiosity, they're taking their first steps into the genre. For those unfamiliar with him, we'd like to introduce one of horror's true maestros: Mario Bava. And for those already acquainted with his work, maybe it's time for a revisit—to once again be stunned by what he brings to the screen. If it's been a few years, you may find yourself seeing things in a whole new way. That's one of the beautiful things about cinema. The three films we've chosen highlight important parts of Bava's career and show how his work helped shape entire subgenres—from gothic horror to giallo to the slasher film. Whether you're discovering him for the first time or coming back for a fresh look, these films are a perfect place to begin. One quick correction: Edgar Wallace was a British writer, not American. Films mentioned in this episode: Baron Blood (1972), A Bay of Blood (1971), Black Sabbath (1963), Black Sunday (1960), Blood and Black Lace (1964), Caltiki the Immortal Monster (1959), The Church (1989), Creature with the Blue Hand (1967), Curse of the Crying Woman (1963), Curse of Frankenstein (1957), Danger: Diabolik (1968), The Day the Sky Exploded (1958), Death Walks at Midnight (1972), Death Walks in High Heels (1971), Deep Red (1975), The Demon (1982), Demons (1985), Django Kill…If You Live, Shoot! (1967), Dr. Goldfoot and the Girl Bombs (1966), Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (1932), Erik the Conqueror (1961), Eyeball (1975), The Four of the Apocalypse (1975), Frankenstein '80 (1972), Frankenstein Island (1981), Friday the 13th (1980), Friday the 13th (1981), The Giant of Marathon (1959), The Girl Who Knew Too Much (1963), The Great Silence (1968), Hatchet for a Honeymoon (1970), Hercules in the Haunted World (1961), Horror of Dracula (1958), Inferno (1980), I Vampiri (1957), Knives of the Avenger (1966), Long Hair of Death (1964), Night Child (1975), Once Upon a Time in the West (1968), Planet of the Vampires (1965), Psycho (1960), She (1965), Shock (1977), Suspiria (1977), Thunderball (1965), The Toolbox Murders (1978), Torso (1973), The Whip and the Body (1963), Your Vice is a Locked Room and Only I Have the Key (1972)

Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) made very demeaning remarks about illegal immigrants. // Far-left journalist Michael Wolff has come out of the woodwork with a new book and claims he is being blacklisted. Trump says that many of Biden’s pardons should be voided because he signed them with autopen. Filmmakers Dan Berk and Robert Olsen (NOVOCAINE, THE STAKELANDER, VILLAINS, SIGNIFICANT OTHER) join Joe Lynch to discuss their career journey. From being randomly assigned as roommates at NYU… to starting their own production company… to taking on the STAKELAND franchise with their well-received sequel… to creating chemistry between two up-and-coming stars like Bill Skarsgard & Maika Monroe in VILLAINS and making an action star out of an everyman actor like Jack Quaid in their new film NOVOCAINE (in theaters March 13th)… Dan and Robert share the details of their collaborative process.
Filmmaker and MOVIE CRYPT favorite Darren Lynn Bousman (SAW 2-4, SPIRAL, ABATTOIR, REPO! THE GENETIC OPERA) returns to share yet another set of incredible stories from his various cinematic adventures over the last few years. As always, Bousman brings his unmatched level of candid honesty about his trials and tribulations and the humble perspective that has made him an absolute legend on this podcast. Starting off with the story of his film THE CELLO and how one of the greatest production experiences of his career suddenly turned south… to the making of his upcoming feature (tentatively titled THE MONSTER) and working with Dijon Hounsou (AMISTAD) and Lauren LaVera (TERRIFIER 2 & 3)… to the MUST HEAR second hour about how the three directors each wrestle with feeling responsible for anything that goes wrong on a production even when it was completely out of their hands… to how they deal with the disappointment of working on a project for years only to have it snuffed out in an instant… to how anxiety and depression have made them think they never wanted to make another film again and just what price “suffering for your art” can actually cost you over the long haul… this is yet another one of those conversations we only wish they would present students with in film school. It may only be March when this episode premieres but it is already a contender for best episode of the year. Don't miss it!
