The success of the latest Final Destination movie is one of the biggest surprises of the first part of the year. Even more shocking is a reported incident from Argentina that is one of the truest cases of life imitating art ever seen. Deadly truth, false internet reporting, or best marketing ever? We finally saw our first look at the It prequel series Welcome to Derry and neither of us were particularly impressed. Of course, we will be watching the HBO Max show, but the trailer was very disappointing. It as a little too familiar. That being said, we have high hopes for the show's potential. We have championed indie horror on our humble little podcast for years. And since we have watched so many small budget films, we understand some of the constraints that come with them. Production values are lower, actors are not as well known, and there is less access to resources. Knowing this, we adjust our expectations and are willing to give the benefit of the doubt. One thing we will not forgive is poor writing. A Hard Place is a decent enough idea. Criminals are caught in the middle of a war between two monster factions. There is just so much going on that nothing leaves an impact. Add in the fact that none of the many characters are developed and the end result is a film that feels pointless. For years, people have complained about the number of remakes and superhero movies. “We want new stuff!” they all scream. This is not limited to a vocal minority. Critics include it in reviews, film fans discuss it while trying to figure out their best Wes Anderson movie, and even the average person on the street has strong feelings about the topic. And then a movie like Companion comes along. Topical, cast filled with young stars, and a director working on his first feature film. And nobody went to see it. But maybe it wasn't that good? We talk about the performances, themes, and tone while trying to figure out why no one went out to see a movie that was exactly what they wanted. To put it simply, Michael Leavy was born a filmmaker. Ever since he learned what a movie was he has dreamed of making them. Fortunately, it didn't take long for that dream to become a reality. Michael began shooting his own films and taught himself how to edit at an early age and has perfected his craft ever since. From the early days of using a paper-towel roll to scroll credits, all the way through mastering Final Cut Pro and Adobe Premiere, his passion has never left. Michael almost single-handedly ran his high school's television studio; anchoring the show each morning and creating more skits and short films than anyone else in the studio's history. Michael received his Bachelor's Degree in TV & Film from Saint John's University and also took graduate classes to further his knowledge. In 2010 Michael Leavy, along with his brother Jason Leavy and Steven Della Salla, established a production company, Fuzz on the Lens Productions. In 2014 Fuzz on the Lens' received worldwide fame with their viral 'Staten Island Clown" publicity stunt. Michael has directed/produced a comedy/fantasy entitled "Abnormal Attraction" starring Malcom McDowell, Gilbert Gottfried, Tyler Mane, Leslie Easterbrook, and academy award nominee Bruce Davison. Michael is most known for starring as 'Will the Exterminator' in the now cult classic original 'Terrifier". More recently, Michael was one of the Producers and the Assistant Director of the Top 10 Box Office success, "Terrifier 2" and is currently Directing / Producing Fuzz on the Lens Productions next horror feature, "Stream", which stars horror icons; Jeffrey Combs, Danielle Harris, Tony Todd, Tim Reid, Dee Wallace, Daniel Roebuck, Felissa Rose, Dave Sheridan, Mark Holton, Damian Maffei and Art the Clown himself, David Howard Thornton. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/steven-cuoco/support

To say that Douglas Vermeeren is one of the busiest actors filming roles in feature films in Europe and the USA is an understatement. To keep up with his roles in productions in 2024, let's start with the Western “Unnatural 2,” Douglas plays Lucifer, directed by Whit Whitman and shot in Kentucky in May 2024 for Little Monsters Productions. He then flew to attend the Cannes Film Festival before booking a role as gangster Archie Baker in “Clean Right Hook,” shot in London, UK, in Late May /early June 2024, directed by Sam Purewal for Black Coppice Productions, Then back to the US for “Deadly Endings” shot in New Haven CT in June 2024. Douglas plays Bradley West with filmmaker Richard Harlost. Douglas also found time to shoot the role of Raynard in “Alien Horde,” his second film with Mahal Empire. And if that's not enough, you can see Douglas in Paramount+'s six-episode documentary series “Mafia Spies,” now streaming. Based on the book Mafia Spies: The Inside Story of the CIA, Gangsters, JFK, and Castro. On the film festival circuit, Douglas is proud of two independent feature films, “Jack Knife” and “Tenants,” which are winning awards worldwide. Other roles include starring alongside former WWE star Al Snow in “Homeless for the Holidays.” As Callum in “Bikers Vs. Werewolves” with Robert LaSardo and Michael Pare. As Denver Haywood in “The Boy From Below” with Dee Wallace and Leah Voysey. As Neal in “Skate to Hell” with Eric Roberts, Todd Bridges, Jenna Jameson and Robert Carradine. And Bradley in “Deadly Endings” with Felissa Rose. Want to watch: YouTube Meisterkhan Pod (Please Subscribe)
We are happy to welcome back Producer, Actor, and Director Michael Leavy to talk about the movie STREAM which will be theaters AUG 21st. We also talk about SCREAMBOAT and maybe a little Terrifier3? STREAM: The Keenan family's simple weekend getaway truly turns into a vacation to die for, as four deranged killers playing a sadistic game lock down their hotel and compete for the most creative murders of all the guests. SCREAMBOAT: A late-night boat ride turns into a desperate fight for survival in New York City when a mischievous mouse becomes a monstrous reality. It is not often that we discuss Hallmark movies. But when it involves the Kansas City Chiefs, how can we avoid it? We also talk about the trailer for the upcoming remake of Nosferatu by Robert Eggers and a M3GAN spinoff with a really neat premise. We also discuss the importance of an AI girlfriend.Whenever we review a movie for our humble little podcast we inevitably ask ourselves, “Who is this movie for?” Never has the answer been harder than with The Conqueror: Hollywood Fallout. There is definitely something here for those who liked to hear stories about trouble productions, but overall, this is not that kind of movie. The film has a much darker story to tell. Along with the multiple cases of cancer among the cast and crew, it also goes into how the production affected the surrounding towns. A hard hitting watch, this is one of those releases that seems like it is for one audience that is accessible to anyone. Then there is The Omicron Killer which is not for anyone. This is bad in more ways than we can adequately describe. Awful comedy, a confusing plot, and nude scenes that even we find pointless, the film seems to go out of its way to alienate audiences. And not in the cute Troma way that ends up being charming. Adventures in Movies! is a part of the Morbidly Beautiful Podcast Network. Kent Collins grew up as a Monster Kid, feeding his haunted head a steady diet of Universal Monsters and DC comics through the late 1970's and early 1980's. And then horror slashed its way into his life in a big way when he saw FRIDAY THE 13th and SLEEPAWAY CAMP. Kent and I kept showing up at the same events this past year or two, so I decided it was time to make a proper introduction from one monster kid to another. For episode #99 we peer into Kent Collins' haunted head for a look at his own experiences as a young horror fan, his love for the film SLEEPAWAY CAMP & his decision to put his money where his mouth is by investing in independent horror.

What you may actually know about the Blair Witch franchise may be something entirely different and your opinion may change after watching this interview. I had the honor and pleasure of speaking to Wes Robinson who plays Lane in the movie; to discover what his personality really is. Wes describes Lane as an obsessive fanatic of the Blair Witch myth. Trying to conceive the possibility that the Blair Witch actually exists and is trying to get answers. I get it. We have all been there. Attempting to wrap our minds around what the universe cannot explain. And that is exactly what Wes delivers in this movie. I am convinced that Wes is very talented, and he acted phenomenally in this movie, and I would love to know what happened to Lane. Why did Lane fall off the face of the earth? Hopefully someone, somewhere can draw up some kind of conclusion for the fans of the franchise. To me, it's damn near frustrating when I don't have answers. Overall, Blair Witch (2016) is a great film. It's more modern take on the legend has had me on the seat for years. No matter how many times I watch the movie, I want to know more. Fan theories may suffice for now, but I would love to see a final conclusion for the franchise that explains everything. I cannot be the only one that wants a final end to the mystery that started in 1999. Wes is working on a project alongside L.C. Holt (another fantastic and talented actor), a movie called “Watchdog” – with an amazing cast: Felissa Rose, Mark Patton, Chaney Morrow, and Lucas Dunaway. Make sure you support Wes by following him on Instagram and you will also be kept up to date with what is coming your way. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/southjerseyhorror/message

PUBLIC VERSION. Filmmaker Michael Mohan (IMMACULATE, THE VOYEURS, EVERYTHING SUCKS) joins Adam, Joe, and Arwen to discuss his career journey and the making of his hit new horror film IMMACULATE (in theaters now). From seeing BACK TO THE FUTURE as a child and how the film set him on his journey of becoming a filmmaker… to going to Chapman for film studies and the indie films that made the impossible dream of becoming a filmmaker seem possible for him… to shooting and editing short films and scenes for actor friends in need of “tape” for their reels… to his trials and tribulations working on various film and television projects on his way to his first feature… to what it's been like working with actress Sydney Sweeney on multiple projects… to how he convinced the IMMACULATE producers to hire him with an extensive pitch deck… to some completely coincidental similarities that IMMACULATE shares with a certain other “neo-Nunsploitation” horror film that's currently in theaters… to his great advice on not relying only on sustainable gigs… and how he created IMMACULATE's incredible final shot… Mohan is certainly having an amazing moment and deservedly so! Also… Adam gets Sea Monkeys again after a traumatic first experience with them as a child, the group shares the first CD's they ever bought, Joe and Michael explain their philosophy on using Letterboxd, and Adam reveals his biggest personal issue with the theatrical poster for his 2010 film FROZEN in this terrifically candid conversation between three filmmakers. Meet Adam Green, Kane Hodder, and Felissa Rose from the HATCHET franchise next weekend (April 19th - 21st) at New Jersey Horror Con in Edison, NJ! This next guest is probably best know for her portrayal of lead character Angela Baker (at 13 years old) in a little controversial film at the time that has elicited a myriad of responses and interpretations over the years, with some of the reactions to the film have included accusations of sensationalism & transphobic exploitation. That film is Sleepaway Camp, but she has certainly done so much more during her career like such films as Victor Crowley, Terrifier 2, Camp Dread & others. Let's welcome, Ms. Felissa Rose! Ricky and his shy, reserved cousin Angela are spending the summer at Camp Arawak, a bargain basement overnight camp in upstate New York run by Mel, cigar-chomping shyster, and staffed by a bunch of adult and teenage degenerates. Angela is initially withdrawn, occasionally catatonic – but is soon brought out of her shell by Ricky's friend Paul, who takes a liking to Angela in the hopes he might be able to make it with her before summer's end. But there are forces are at work – forces determined to put the strangely distant Angela in her place. Bunkmate and camp harlot Judy sees Angela as a weirdo, then a threat when she attracts Paul's attention. Counselor Meg, who can't get Angela to eat, play sports, or swim, constantly berates Angela for her failure to thrive. That's when the murders begin, one at a time, first a staffer, then a camper, and on and on. Mel tries to hide it due to the bad publicity, but as any good camp director knows, murder's bad for business, and the more we learn about Angela's murky past, the more things at Camp Arawak take a turn… for the deadly. This is our 3rd year of Halloween content. Even to this day, we can't decide on what to call it. Is it "Spooky Penis Month"? Is it "Halloweiners"? It can probably be a combination of both. Either way, we're starting off our favourite season right with a film we're a little embarrassed to have not seen before. Yeah, it's Robert Hiltzik's cult classic SLEEPAWAY CAMP. I mean, we're glad we waited to cover this film as adults as it's easily one of the best horror films we've seen with an ending that honestly leaves you haunted but also, one of the most important scenes we've covered on this podcast. You honestly won't want to miss our commentary on this classic but if you have yet to see the film, please don't allow it to be spoiled for you. You have been warned!
Return to camp with Michael A. Simpson's Sleepaway Camp 2: Unhappy Campers (1988) which finds Angela killing according to Aunt Martha's conservative moral code. We're talking about Pamela Springsteen's performance (and Felissa Rose's absence), our love of Ally, and the film's status as a self-referential horror comedy. Plus: the lack of short shorts, poor editing, Molly's end, and debates if the laughs subvert the "trans killer" trope. Reference: > Cervantes, Reyna. "Finding Your Identity at Sleepaway Camp." Today on Crime & Entertainment we have Dave Sheridan or as some of you may know him as, Special Officer Doofy from the hit comedy, Scary Movie. Dave has to his credit over 90 film roles in everything from comedy to horror. In addition to his film roles, Dave Sheridan is credited with introducing the reality series to the MTV audience with Buzzkill (1996), a show that featured three slacker buddies staging elaborate pranks and catching it all on video. Sheridan began his career interning at Saturday Night Live working with some of the greats like Chris Rock, Adam Sandler, David Spade, & Chris Farley. From there, he entered Chicago's famed comedy Mecca, The Second City, where he wrote, directed and produced Dave Sheridan's America, a multimedia stage show. That would lead him to land the role of Doofy in Scary Movie and it wouldn't be the last time he would collaborate with the Wayan's brothers.
