We kick things off with a little chat about Alison Balson, who played the unforgettable Nancy Oleson, along with some fond (and hilarious) memories from Dean and Alison. Here's a quick shout-out to Nancy—she brought a whole new level of wild to Walnut Grove! Let's hear it for a little Nancy love! Now, cue the bug spray and brace yourself—it's time for The Campout! An epic misadventure in the great outdoors where the Olesons and the Ingalls attempt a relaxing weekend of camping, (spoiler: no one was relaxed), a questionable school project and some very odd ideas of what one would consider a "vacation".This episode marks the beginning of Katherine MacGregor's comedic brilliance on the show, while also giving us a peek into Mrs. Oleson's more vulnerable side. Yes, underneath all the feathers and finger-pointing, she's got feelings! And this peek behind the curtain only deepened our love-hate obsession with her. It also opened up a whole new dimension to the Olesons and deepened our love-hate relationship with them. Especially the hate part.Alison spills the tea on what the Olesons were actually eating at that dinner table, how they filmed the now-iconic floating-down-the-river moment (it was way more dangerous than it looked), and the very creative (read: gross) way she and Melissa Gilbert stayed warm in their wetsuits. Let's just say it involved a bodily function and a lot of friendship. Dean and Alison also dive into Katherine MacGregor's unique approach to her role, including how she wove elements of her real life into many of Mrs. Oleson's unforgettable moments. And finally, things get real when Pamela asks the question we didn't know we needed:“What's your damage, Pa?!”Grab your bonnet, pour some of Ma's coffee, get out your anti-itch ointment, and join us for a laugh-filled, memory-soaked deep dive into one of the most delightfully chaotic episodes Little House ever gave us. This one's a classic! Then join Pamela, Dean, and Alison over on Patreon for an honest and heartfelt conversation about the growing negativity on Little House social platforms. We're taking a stand against toxic, bigoted, and harmful behavior from those who, somehow, believe there's space for hatred in the world of Walnut Grove. It's a powerful moment of reflection, solidarity, and setting the record straight—and one you won't want to miss.Don't forget to subscribe, comment, leave a review, and share this episode with fellow Bonnetheads.Links and Resources:Haven't signed up for Patreon yet? Starlight Thursdays Episode 225. We're thrilled to Import Art Van Delay's export to the series. He's recently moved to Montana from Las Vegas, Not that there's anything wrong with that… And people need to know the truth,so apparently we're doing an interview. How long have you been DJing? My entire life Nobody is going to be leave that. I mean what are you gonna say when someone asks why you decided to be a DJ? Well, let me tell you, it's not like I woke up one day and said, "Hey, Art, you know what would be great? Standing in front of a bunch of people and pretending to be cooler than you actually are." No, no. It started out small. I was always that guy who made the mixtapes for road trips, you know? Friends would say, "Art, you have impeccable taste in music," and I'd think, "Yeah, I do, don't I?" Then, one thing led to another. Someone at a party handed me the auxiliary cord. Hold on an Auxiliary cord Come on George. ART its ART! We Gotta Stick To The Story!!!! I'm getting angry!!! Yes, Jerry an Auxiliary cord and boom, I was in control. It was like being the maestro of social interaction. People danced! They actually danced because of me! I thought, "Art, you've found your calling. You're not just a guy who lives with his parents; you're a master of ceremonies, a purveyor of beats, a DJ!" So, here I am, spinnin records, making people move, and thinking, "Maybe this is what you were meant to do all along." It's a delicate balance, like a TV episode—awkward, hilarious, but somehow it just works. Gorge, I mean Art, A maser of ceremonies? But you are a guy who lives with his parents. I mean where have you even been DJing? We'llllll Jerrrry it just so happens I've been DJing at Soup nazi's beats & eats, Festivus fest, Serenity Now! Campout, Electric Kramer Carnival and Crystal Mountain 2024 Art at least half of those festivals you made up. What if someone looks into this. There going to know… Nobody looks into this stuff it happens all the time Jerry. These days DJs just make up social media pages with a bunch of photos with hot women and boom next thing you know off to Spain in a privet jet. I don't think that's how it works George. ART! So you mean to tell me people are supposed to believe you're originally from Detroit, you DJ festivals under the name Art Van Delay and what are you going to tell them when they ask what inspired you to do that? Inspiration? HA! Let me tell you about inspiration. You know that feeling when you find the perfect parking spot right in front of your building? That's what DJing is like for me. It's a moment of pure, unadulterated victory. So Art, what's the deal with this electronic music culture stuff anyway, I mean it's music and its culture, I just don't understand? Okay Jerry, It's all about the freedom, the energy, and sheer unpredictability. First off, the people. You've got all these folks from different walks of life, coming together in this crazy, pulsating environment. It's like a big, dysfunctional family reunion, but with better music and less judgment. You look around, and everyone's just there to have a good time, to escape the mundane, to dance like Elaine without anyone caring. Then, there's the music itself. It's like this endless buffet of sounds and beats. You never know what you're gonna get, but somehow it all works. It's like the electronic music gods decided, "Hey, let's throw a little bit of this, a little bit of that," Yada Yada and boom! You've got a masterpiece. It's chaotic, it's beautiful, it's… well, it's life Jerry And the technology! The gear, the lights, the visuals—it's like living in the future. Who wouldn't be inspired by that? So, yeah, electronic music culture inspires me because it's a wild, unpredictable ride, just like a day in my life. It's about finding those moments of joy and letting loose, and in the end, isn't that what we're all looking for? For More Art Van Delay check out https://soundcloud.com/djartvandelay

We camped under the stars, with nothing between us and the infinite West African sky. No need for a tent in the dry season. But the fire was crucial. “Never let the fire go out,” Dad said, prodding the logs with a stick. Fire kept wildlife at a distance. God’s creatures are wonderful, but you never want a leopard or a snake meandering through your campsite. Dad was a missionary to Ghana’s Upper Region, and he had a knack for turning everything into a teaching moment. Camping was no exception. God used campouts as a teaching point for His people too. Once a year, for an entire week, the Israelites were to live in shelters made of “branches from luxuriant trees—from palms, willows and other leafy trees” (Leviticus 23:40). The purpose was twofold. God told them, “All native-born Israelites are to live in such shelters so your descendants will know that I had the Israelites live in temporary shelters when I brought them out of Egypt” (vv. 42-43). But the event was also to be festive. “Rejoice before the Lord your God for seven days” (v. 40). Camping may not be your idea of fun, but God instituted a one-week campout for the Israelites as a joyful way to recall His goodness. We easily forget the meaning at the heart of our holidays. Our festivals can be joyous reminders of the character of our loving God. He created fun too.

Episode 186 Details Be Weather Aware: Understand Tornado Season Tornado season typically runs from spring to early summer in the United States, peaking in April, May, and June. During this time, atmospheric conditions are ripe for the formation of tornadoes, powerful rotating columns of air that can cause significant damage in their path. Identifying Tornado Risks at Home Create a Safety Plan: Designate a safe room in your home, preferably in a basement or an interior room on the lowest level without windows. Practice regular tornado drills with your family. Strengthen Your Home: Reinforce your home's structure by securing loose shingles, reinforcing windows, and installing storm shutters or impact-resistant glass. Stay Informed: Invest in a NOAA weather radio or download a reliable weather app to receive alerts and updates about tornado warnings in your area. Have a safe place by the door or common area, so that you always remember to grab your wallet, purse, etc. Incase of catastrophic damage, it is always important to have identification, a credit card, some cash and a list of phone numbers that are your primary emergency contacts in case your mobile phone is ruined. Tornado Safety Tips While Traveling or Camping Traveling or camping during tornado season requires extra vigilance to ensure your safety in case of severe weather. Camping Safety Tips Upon checking in, ask the camp host for the EMERGENCY weather storm shelter is located! Choose the Right Campsite: Select a campsite away from trees and other potential hazards that could become projectiles in high winds. Avoid setting up camp in low-lying areas prone to flooding. Monitor Weather Conditions: Stay informed about weather forecasts and be prepared to seek shelter in a sturdy building or designated storm shelter if severe weather threatens. Pack Emergency Supplies: Pack essential emergency supplies, including a first aid kit, non-perishable food, water, flashlights, and extra batteries. Consider bringing a portable weather radio or a fully charged smartphone with a weather app for updates. Safety Tips for Travelers Plan Ahead: Check weather forecasts for your travel route and destination before hitting the road. Be prepared to alter your plans if severe weather is expected. Stay Informed: Keep abreast of weather updates during your journey by tuning into local radio stations or using a weather app on your smartphone. Have a Shelter Plan: Identify shelters along your route or at your destination where you can seek refuge in case of a tornado warning. If you're staying in a hotel, familiarize yourself with the hotel's emergency procedures. Father's Day Gifts & Trips If your idea of a Father's Day weekend is cleaning up the yard, mowing and fixing the long overdue hole in the backyard fence. Then you are wrong. Why should the weekend not be celebrated like others such as Mother's Day? Father's Day Gifts & Trip Ideas To Plan Now Now there are lots of gifts out there from the Tees to the Coffee Cups that say “World's Greatest Dad”; but my suggestion is to stay away from the typical gifts and go for something more memorable. Take The Time, Make The Memories Plan A Weekend Fishing Trip. Early summer fishing is often the best! Purchase a Guided Fishing Trip as a Gift for a later date. Campout with the whole family! If your dad is a bit older, than book him in a cabin but be sure to bring along all who can make it. Golfing with the Guys or pitting family member teams against one another. Nothing wrong with some friendly family competition. Brewery Tour. Plan an afternoon of touring the local Breweries, Distilleries or Wineries in your area. Often there's live music outside, making for a fun day! Geocaching. If you've not tried, you need to! It's an adult version of a scavenger hunt. What kid or guy doesn't like to “hunt” for something!? Build a project together. Think about if there's something you've been wanting your dad's help with or he has been wanting yours. The time spent together focused on that task, creating something you'll be proud of for years to come is rewarding too. Father's Day or Guy Gifts To Buy 1. Hawaiian Shirts! Personalize or customize with family photos, favorite cows or pets. 2. Infused Wood Chips for BBQ Smoking. These are great for the BBQ cooks in the family! 3. Battery operated yard tools. Technology has come a long way with increasing power in the tools as well as the longevity in battery length. Today you can trim weeds, use power drills, hack saws and even chain saws all with the same battery. There are even battery operated power washers. Batteries alone are a great gift, just make sure you know the brand of tools the recipient is using so that they all match in chargers and batteries.
