This episode marks my 5 month post op from having surgery for endometriosis, fibroids, cysts & adenomyosis AND 3 years of trying to concieve. I talk about the importance of having a support system, essential items to pack and all about my recovery. This was my first surgery, so you can imagine the angst I felt leading up to it but I don't regret it one bit! Having this surgery has given me my life back and allowed me to prioritize myself guilt free. I have learned to listen to my body when it needs rest. I no longer have daily pain and my last period (2nd since surgery) I didn't even need to break out my heating pad and I was not bed ridden! I am shocked! As painful as it was to pause our fertility treatments for 9 months to have the surgery, it was completely worth it and hopefully will be just what we need to concieve.

In this weeks episode, I have guest Ashlea Morante with me who is sharing her experience with recurring pregnancy loss. She is a super warrior who has had three pregnancy losses, but hasn't lost hope or her sassiness along the way! It can be very challenging to deal with pregnancy loss, let alone three, so Ashlea was an avid advocate for herself and her husband for answers. We chat about how you can do all the things to prepare for starting a family (finishing college, career) but infertility is an unexpected game that you just have to learn to roll with. She discusses how she was told she had to endure three pregnancy losses, before she could receive the proper panel testing (like actually wtf!), how hopeful she was to have medical intervention during her IUI's to see if that helped lead to answers, and now she is on her way to beginning her first round IVF in July!In preparing for IVF, as we know the cost can be ALOT, she planned an IVF Auction to help lessen the burden of cost. Through this auction she was able to raise $6900, enough to cover all Dr fees, bloodwork, egg retrieval and transfer. Small business, friends and family came together to offer amazing auction items.. one being a week vaca in the Outer Banks!! This was such a compelling story, some small business owners were asking to donate MORE because Ashlea's story resonated with them so deeply. Give today's pod a list for the full scoop!

Do you know what's in your everyday products? Did you know that if you see “fragrance” or “perfume” on a label it is actually a way for the beauty industry to mask the REAL ingredients? Today I have Jackie Banda, who is giving me all the details on how to make clean swaps for a more sustainable lifestyle. From floss, makeup, cookware, AND mattresses, there are so many everyday household items that have added toxins that are harming our bodies on a daily basis. Jackie has followed an 80/20 rule when it comes to clean products, has seen a noticeable difference in her health and well being such as, her menstrual cycle, decreased food sensitivity, and less inflammation. We should be able to find products that serve their purpose AND support our bodies. She is giving me all the fabulous advice on how I can make a difference in my own buying power. We even discuss how POC are more likely to be exposed to toxic chemicals in the beauty industry that are directly impacting our hormones. This conversation definitely has me double & triple checking my products. Check out my IG post for some WOC owned clean beauty & other brands we mention in today's episode.

Play Episode Listen Later Apr 7, 2021 19:59

Summer is right around the corner so I thought what better time to share my own experience and journey with body love. In my own self reflection, I think some of my body issues stemmed from one of my first jobs, Hollister. They are known for only hiring skinny “models” and based their recruiting strategy on appearance. Since I worked there at such a young age, this indirectly engrained these poor body image assumptions and comparisons of what is considered “healthy” and “beautiful” into something that was not realistic. As I got older, and realized how toxic the diet culture can be, I started to surround myself is healthy influences, focused on being stronger vs skinner and stop letting societal norms determine my worth. I am a big believer you only have one life to live so make it a good one. But personally I felt freed from worrying how I looked to others, what I ate or feeling like I had to workout because I had takeout that weekend. All bodies are good bodies.
