We recently got asked what is neurofeedback and what the difference between neurofeedback vs biofeedback was. Great question! Dr. Meghan Marcum is a neurofeedback and biofeedback trained professional and explains what they are and their differences and benefits! Biofeedback is a mind-body therapy that uses electrical signals to help a person gain awareness and control over psychological processes. There are a lot of biofeedback benefits such as: - Better control of heart rate - Control Muscle tension - Lower blood pressure and much more Research has shown biofeedback is an effective tool at helping a variety of scientific and psychological issues such as anxiety, trauma and headaches. Neurofeedback is a similar process whereby individuals learn to self regulate their brain waves over time(self control over brain activity) Neurofeedback can also at times be known as eeg biofeedback and it's a self-intervention to teach brain function. Typically little sensors are attached to the head to track responses. You typically need a professional to assist in this. Some of the benefits of neurofeedback therapy can include: - Reduce anxiety - ADHD and ADD - Stress disorders - Panic attacks - Depression - Headaches and migraines - and sleep issues. Play Episode Listen Later Nov 20, 2018 8:38

Social media addiction is a term that's been floating around the last few years. But is social media ACTUALLY an addiction at all? What do you think? We've seen a complete explosion of social media use and social media networks over the last decade. It has created careers and virtually changed the world as we know it! Some psychologists have argued that social media addiction should be added into the Diagnostic and statistical manual of mental disorders or DSM for short. According to Webster, Addiction is a compulsive need for and use of a habit-forming substance (such as heroin, nicotine, or alcohol) characterized by tolerance and by well-defined physiological symptoms upon withdrawal. Here are some questions to ask yourself if you think you may be addicted to social media: Do you spend time thinking about social media or planning to use social media? Do you feel urges to use social media more and more? Do you use social media to forget about personal problems? Do you often try to reduce social media use without success? Do you become restless or troubled if you are unable to use social media? Ultimately, you have to decide if your social media use is getting out of control and to set boundaries if you feel that it is. What is your opinion? Do you feel social media can be addictive?
