EPISODE SUMMARY: What if I told you that you could build the body you want in one year instead of five? That you don't need more information—you need execution. The reason you're stuck isn't because you don't know what to do, it's because you don't trust it yet. And that's because your mind won't trust what it hasn't experienced. In this episode, I break down why execution builds trust, why hesitation is the thing holding you back, and how you can finally step into the new game—the game where results actually happen. This is about long-term commitment, showing up, and executing at the level required to get what you want. If you're tired of second-guessing, tweaking, and waiting for proof, this episode is for you. Plus—I'm opening spots in Warrior School this March. If you're ready to do the thing, click the link below to apply. KEY TAKEAWAYS: Your mind won't trust what it hasn't experienced. That's why you hesitate and second-guess. Execution is the only way to build confidence. There are only two reasons you don't have the results you want: You're not executing at the level required. Your expectations don't match reality (you haven't given it enough time). The old game of women's fitness is about chasing excitement, jumping between programs, and constantly tweaking. The new game is about following a proven system, staying consistent, and committing for at least 12 months. Biofeedback is your foundation. If you're not seeing the progress you want, start by auditing your energy, metabolism, and nervous system health. Proximity to success matters. If you don't have guidance, leadership, and a community, you'll keep feeling stuck. You need to put yourself in the right room. POWERFUL QUOTES: "Your mind won't trust what it hasn't experienced. You don't need more proof before you take action—you need action to get proof." "You're waiting for certainty before you commit, but confidence doesn't come before execution—it comes _from_execution." "If you're not seeing the results you want, you're either not executing at the level required, or you haven't given it enough time. Period." "You're playing the wrong game. The old game is about overthinking, starting and stopping, and waiting to feel ready. The new game is about showing up and doing the damn thing—every day." "If you could have done it alone, you already would have. Stop waiting. Find the support, leadership, and guidance you need." JOIN WARRIOR SCHOOL: Spots are open this March for Warrior School. If you're ready to stop overthinking and actually do the work, apply now. We'll jump on a call, talk about your goals, and see if this is the right fit for you. Have you ever wondered how much your body is telling you—and what you might be missing? Could looking at one more metric from your wearable device, like heart rate variability (HRV), unlock the secrets to better sleep, reduced stress, and improved overall health? In this episode of Salad with a Side of Fries, Jenn Trepeck welcomes Dr. Torkil Færø, a GP, emergency physician, author of The Pulse Cure, and advocate for the transformative power of wearables in health optimization. Torkil shares his journey of exploring devices like Whoop and Garmin to uncover hidden stressors, track heart rate variability (HRV), and make meaningful lifestyle changes that dramatically improve health. From understanding the connection between HRV and chronic stress to identifying surprising factors like late-night meals and alcohol that impact sleep and recovery, this conversation dives deep into how wearables can enhance our understanding of the body. Dr. Færø also discusses HRV's role in improving PMS symptoms, offers actionable advice for boosting HRV, and explains why personalized data is key to unlocking better health. The Salad With a Side of Fries podcast is hosted by Jenn Trepeck, discussing wellness and weight loss for real life, clearing up the myths, misinformation, bad science & marketing surrounding our nutrition knowledge and the food industry. Let's dive into wellness and weight loss for real life, including drinking, eating out, and skipping the grocery store. IN THIS EPISODE: [6:04] Dr. Færø explains why he began to focus on wearables[11:26] Humans can't sense our inner stress levels[14:55] Heart rate numbers are individual, and the connection between low heart rate and disease[23:34] Unexpected sources of stress and the sleep connection[29:21] How heart rate variability can improve PMS symptoms[32:45] Dr. Faero gives advice to see improvement in heart rate variabilityKEY TAKEAWAYS: HRV is a powerful tool for tracking stress and overall health. By using wearables to monitor HRV, individuals can learn how lifestyle choices—like diet, alcohol intake, and exercise—affect their bodies. A higher HRV typically reflects a restful, adaptive state, while a lower HRV may indicate chronic stress or other concerns. Notably, the focus is on individual patterns and baselines rather than comparing numbers with others, ensuring a personalized approach to health tracking.Wearables can uncover hidden stressors, like inflammatory foods or alcohol, that traditional medical training can overlook. By making informed changes, such as reducing alcohol intake, eating earlier dinners, and incorporating stress management techniques like breathwork or cold plunges. These tools serve as a modern extension of human senses, allowing users to “listen” to their bodies in ways evolution never equipped us for.Eating late or consuming alcohol can lower heart rate variability (HRV), resulting in less restorative sleep, even if total sleep hours are unchanged. To improve sleep quality, it's essential to wind down 1–2 hours before bedtime through calming activities like meditation, dimming lights, and avoiding late-night meals or alcohol. Additionally, keeping the bedroom cool (around 67–68°F) enhances sleep quality, as seen through wearable HRV data.Wearables provide insight into stress and health management. Devices like Whoop and Garmin track HRV, offering data on recovery, stress levels, and readiness for physical or mental exertion. This information can help prevent burnout by signaling when stress levels are unsustainable and encouraging proactive adjustments like yoga, better sleep habits, or dietary changes. For women, these wearables have even been used to manage PMS symptoms by identifying stress patterns and adjusting activities accordingly.QUOTES: [7:02] “I understood that there was a metric called heart rate variability that could show and track these improvements. So if I did something good for my health, that will be revealed in the heart rate.” Dr. Færø[10:36] “Heart rate variability essentially shows the time between heartbeats. We want that number to be higher, right? When that number is higher, there's greater variability between those heartbeats, it's a sign of the body being in a restful state where it can adapt to whatever is coming at us.” Jenn Trepeck[12:28] “I think the piece that's really important for all of us is to recognize is the body can be in a stress response, even when we don't intellectually register stress.” - Jenn Trepeck[24:35] “Heart rate variability and sleep are intimately connected.” - Jenn Trepeck[35:20] “Breathe slowly; nobody will notice if you're in a meeting, or if you're on a phone call. Slow down your breath, and close your eyes so that throughout the day, you calm your nervous system down.” Dr. Færø[37:06] “It's only when you get sick, that's when your health depends on your wallet.” Dr. Færø"It's like you have a speedometer for your physiology." - Torkil FærøRESOURCES:Become A Member of Salad with a Side of FriesJenn's Free Menu PlanA Salad With a Side of FriesA Salad With A Side Of Fries MerchA Salad With a Side of Fries InstagramSheMD WebsiteSheMD on SpotifySheMD on YouTubeGUEST RESOURCES:The Pulse Cure - WebsiteTorkil Faero - InstagramTorkil Faero - FacebookTorkil Faero - LinkedInGUEST BIOGRAPHY: Dr. Torkil Færø is a GP, emergency physician, documentary filmmaker, author, and photographer. Over a 26-year career as a freelance doctor, he has worked all over Norway, had a hundred thousand consultations and thus gained a unique picture of the diseases that plague us. He learned that the cause is most often found in the stresses our lifestyles place on our bodies. When his father died at 73, he realized that he had to change his lifestyle. Being 40 pounds overweight, under-trained, over-stressed, under-slept and drinking alcohol daily, he learned that this lifestyle could deprive him of decades. He found a way to track and regulate his nervous system and physiology using wearables. Færø is an award-winning photographer and author of The Camera Cure and has made TV films about his pilgrimages to Nidaros and Santiago de Compostela. An inveterate traveler, he has visited over 80 countries and speaks eight languages. He lives in Norway.

Over the next week or so, I wanted to reshare the top several episodes of 2024! These are essentially "voted on" by you, the listeners, based on the episodes that had the most downloads over the course of the past calendar year. For longtime listeners of the podcast, I think this will be a welcomed revisit of the compelling, invigorating conversations had with these guests; for newer listeners of The Red Light Report, you are undoubtedly in for a treat. Sit back, relax and enjoy learning from some of the best minds and thought leaders in the wellness and longevity spaces!- The more and more I learn about Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and acupuncture, the more I am intrigued and it just makes intuitive sense. It also helps when you learn this deep and complex knowledge from someone as intelligent and articulate as (now) three-time guest, Dr. Chris Motley. Long-time listeners of the show are familiar with Dr. Motley and his amazing command and intuition when it comes to TCM and other holistic modalities; new listeners.... you are in for a treat! He is by far one of my favorite humans to talk with, on and off the mic. Dr. Motley not only speaks from his depth of learning the information, but even more so from hands-on experience from his full day's of treating patients. During our conversation today, he details some fascinating discoveries he's made via experimenting with red light therapy and acupuncture points; he has observed some profound results particularly with viruses! We also take a deep dive into the importance of our fascial system and why it is a crucial (and, unfortunately, a highly underrated and overlooked organ system) facet of our overall wellbeing. Most commonly known for playing a major role in our mobility and flexibility, the fascia plays a much deeper role in our vitality. Dr. Motley and I also discuss the invaluable role that cupping plays in optimizing fascial health, which leads to innumerable benefits that we detail during our talk. We also delve into some intriguing topics that are of special interest to Dr. Motley currently, including psychological aspect of physiological growth, the connection between psychological stress and organ growth patterns and the exploration of devices that detect static charges on the skin for diagnostic purposesI hope you enjoy the conversation today with Dr. Motely. Please share this episode with family, friends and colleagues if you find the content especially interesting and/or impactful. Grab Your Opportunity for a Free Call With Lynne Here About Guy Odishaw Guy Odishaw is the founder of Bhakti Wellness Center, one of the largest, most diverse, integrative medicine clinics in the country. Co-founder of the first integrative student health clinics in the country at the University of Minnesota. Cofounder of Bhakti Brain Health Clinic - Neuroimaging & Neuromodulation. Cofounder of Minnesota Bredesen Clinic - Dementia Prevention & Treatment Co-founder of CerebralFit Brain Training, a Nutraceutical, Electroceutical, company. Guy's 20+ years as meditation instructor and facilitator of courses on personal growth helped him understand how to support clients through transitions of life. He's studied dysregulation that possibly stems from the brain, brainstem, body or mind that affects so many of us in this day and age. What We Discuss In This Episode Lynne welcomed back Guy to discuss anxiety from a psychophysiological perspective, a prevalent and growing issue impacting individuals and families. Guy defined anxiety as the experience of dysregulation that could originate from the brain, brainstem, body, or mind. Guy explained that anxiety is labeled as the feeling of dysregulation in the system. Identifying the source of dysregulation is key to determining the best treatment approach whether it's in the body, brain, brainstem, or mind. Guy presented a case study showing a client's highly dysregulated autonomic nervous system and how biofeedback training improved heart rate variability, coherence, and overall regulation—greatly reducing anxiety and depression symptoms. Through biofeedback sessions, a 53-year-old woman was able to regulate her previously chaotic autonomic nervous system with breathing exercises, improving quality of life after decades of treatment-resistant depression and anxiety. While practices like meditation and breathing can benefit many, Guy cautioned that randomly choosing an exercise risks dysregulation rather than resolution. Biofeedback allows identifying truly regulating techniques versus those maintaining dysregulation. Guy offered a free 15-minute consultation for listeners to discuss specific concerns, with the goal of empowering self-care and connecting others with targeted resolution approaches. Lynne thanked Guy for the insightful discussion.
