The FBI profiler noted his clear, coherent writing made him especially dangerous.The stalker eventually called Kaya's high school pretending to be her father, leaving 19 voicemails overnight threatening to kill any teacher, student, or administrator who got in his way, proving his threats were escalating from paper to real-world action.Traditional law enforcement couldn't help because stalking laws require physical contact or break-in before police can act. The case was only solved when FBI agents used forensic genealogy — the same technology that caught the Golden State Killer (as discussed with investigator Paul Holes on episode 725) — matching DNA from the stalker's discarded Arby's cup.The psychological toll rewires how victims move through the world permanently. He had never met her, never spoken to her, never been in the same room with her. But through obsessive consumption of her music, her interviews, and her public appearances, he constructed an entire relationship in his mind — one that demanded his loyalty, then his anger, and finally his violence.Between 1993 and 1996, López recorded over twenty hours of video diaries from his small apartment in Hollywood, Florida. These tapes documented a slow psychological unraveling in real time. What started as adoration became entitlement. What began as devotion curdled into rage when López learned Björk was in a relationship with another artist. In his mind, this was a betrayal of him personally.The Björk case stands as one of the earliest and most extensively documented examples of parasocial obsession turning violent. López spoke directly to his camera, constructing elaborate justifications for what he planned to do. He researched methods. He tested materials. He kept working, day after day, toward a goal that made complete sense in his distorted worldview.On September 12, 1996, López mailed a package to Björk's London address. It contained a hollowed-out book filled with sulfuric acid, designed to spray in her face when opened. Then he returned to his apartment, pressed record one final time, and ended his own life.The package was intercepted by Scotland Yard after López's body was discovered. Björk never saw it. But the twenty-two hours of video López left behind reveal something chilling: how obsession can hide behind the mundane routines of ordinary life, how fixation can grow in isolation until it becomes indistinguishable from purpose.This episode examines not just what López did, but how he got there. It traces the warning signs that were never seen, the psychological patterns that repeat across stalking cases, and the specific dangers of parasocial attachment in the early internet era. In this interview, Piper and Ben talk about meeting in 2019, moving to Oregon, and starting their own wine label.Ben talks about going to school for design and architecture in Durango, Colorado before moving to Salt Lake City, where he met Piper. They moved to Oregon in 2020 so Ben could go to University of Oregon for their architecture program and Piper could make wine.Piper speaks about taking over the Privé brand in 2020 with oversight from the original owners. She emphasizes their focus on “old school Oregon winemaking” as the philosophy behind the brand, as well as putting her own influence on it.Ben and Piper talk about finding the West Wind Vineyard which they purchased in 2021, and from which they started their own brand: Sealionne. They started pouring their wines for the public out of an Airstream trailer - remodeled by Ben - and their labels are designed each year by Ben's sister. In the early 1990s, a beloved first-grade teacher in Pennsylvania began receiving harassing, threatening letters from an anonymous sender. Her school principal, fellow teachers, and the parents of some of her students soon began receiving them too. As the ordeal wore on, the stalker slowly escalated from taunts to vile accusations and death threats—and then, finally, violence. From early on in the case, the police thought they knew the tormentor's identity, but it took 18 months to finally gather the evidence needed for an arrest. The trial to follow would be one of the most bizarre the state had ever seen. Brian BonsallTake a walk with me down Fascination Street as I get to know Brian Bonsall. When Brian was very young, he joined the cast of the hit television show Family Ties, where he played Andy for over 80 episodes. Brian was also on several other shows including Star Trek: The Next Generation; before jumping onto the big screen with films like: 'Mikey', 'Father and Scout', and my personal favorite 'Blank Check'. About the age of 14 or so, Brian moved on from acting. He went to school, moved across the country, and discovered punk & pop punk music. He fell in love instantly with the genre. In this episode, we chat about some of those acting projects, and how he came to be in the industry in the first place. We talk about why he left the industry, and what he found in music. Brian discusses some of the bands he has been part of including Bootjack & Bons, Sunset Silhouette, and his newest endeavor Lights In The Sky. He also shares fun stories about some of the musical opportunities that have come his way; including playing with The Ataris, and even getting to play in Las Vegas at the When We Were Young Tour, the largest audience he has ever played in front of. Along the way, we deep dive into several different aspects of his storied career. From child actor and star to redemption story, to husband, father, and family man. Brian graciously allows me to play a couple of songs from two of his bands, I love them, and I think you will too! Lastly, Brian openly discusses the amazing Courtney, his wife. He fills us in on some recent health scares with her, and how she is doing these days. She is his ROCK. It was an absolute delight to speak with this remarkable and resilient dude.
