On Monday, Philadelphia Union II took on Côte d'Ivoire at Subaru Park in the African nation's final tune-up before the start of its World Cup campaign. Philadelphia Union II welcomed Cavan Sullivan back to the second team for the first time since 2025. The match also saw former Union II players and current college standouts Jojo Elliott (Delaware), Henry Bernstein (Maryland), Gavin Wetsel (Pittsburgh), and Daniel Krueger (Wake Forest) return to the fold. Most notably, however, the match marked the return of former Philadelphia Union midfielder Anthony Fontana to Subaru Park for the first time since 2021, when the Union lost 2–1 to NYCFC in the Eastern Conference Final. Todd and José are joined by Anthony Fontana to discuss Jim Curtin to Austin FC, Fontana's experience training with Union II over the past few weeks, playing in his first match at Subaru Park since 2021, what he hopes his next move is in his career, and the 2026 World Cup. Jim Curtin announced as next Austin FC coach: [4:07] Union II vs Ivory Coast: How the opportunity came about for Fontana: [23:25] Impressions of Union II / mentoring the younger players: [29:24] Walking out onto the field for the first time since 2021: [38:24] Being a captain while on the field: [52:50] Reaction to the applause when subbing in: [56:42] 2026 World Cup: Four former Philadelphia Union players in World Cup squad: [1:09:52] People criticizing Paxten Aaronson's move back to MLS: [1:15:15] Difficulties of transfers: [1:21:57] Fan appreciation for Fontana: [1:31:13] Social Media: Twitter: @FreeKickPod Instagram: @FreeKickPod Facebook: @FreeKickPod YouTube: The Free Kick https://thefreekick.substack.com/ Jose's Social Media: Twitter: @JoserNunez91 https://nunezj.substack.com/ José and Anthony's catch up last year Anthony's social media: Instagram: @fontana.99
Paulbegins this chapter by saying: “Finally, my brethren, rejoice in the Lord.To write the same things to you is not tedious to me, but for you it is safe.”Now, when Paul says, “Finally,” he is not ending the letter. In fact, hestill has two full chapters to go. The word simply means “furthermore” or “forthe rest.” Paul is introducing a new section of this wonderful book. Thefirst thing Paul says as he introduces this section is, “Rejoice in the Lord.” Thatshould catch our attention because, remember who is writing this? Paul is inprison. He might be executed. He does not know what the future holds for him.Yet he keeps talking about joy. How is that possible? It is because, as we havealready learned, Paul's joy is not found in circumstances. It is found in JesusChrist. Thereis a great difference between happiness and joy. Happiness depends on whathappens. If things go our way, we are happy. If things do not go our way, webecome unhappy. But joy is different. Joy is rooted in a relationship—ourrelationship with Jesus Christ. It is not based on circumstances. It is notbased on changing things. It is based on the unchanging character of our LordJesus Christ. That means we can have joy even when life is difficult. Thatis why James 1:2 says: “My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into varioustemptations.” Notice, he did not say if you fall into trials. He said when.Trials are a part of life. Difficulties are a part of life. Heartaches are apart of life. But joy can still be a part of life because Jesus is the sameyesterday, today, and forever. He never changes. TheApostle Paul understood that praise changes things. Praising the Lord prevails over the enemy. The rejoicingbeliever discovers God's strength. Now,let me be clear. Rejoicing does not mean we ignore our pain. There may be somepeople listening today, dear friends, who are carrying heavy burdens. Maybe youhave recently received difficult medical news. Perhaps you are strugglingfinancially. Maybe you are carrying a burden for a child or a grandchild. Orperhaps you are grieving the loss of someone you love. Paul does not sayrejoice in those things. He says, “Rejoice in the Lord.” The Lord is still onHis throne. His love has not changed. His promises have not changed. His powerhas not changed. His faithfulness has not changed. His mercy has not changed. Nomatter what is happening around us, Jesus remains the same. Our joy is not inwhat we possess. Our joy is in Who possesses us—and that is the Lord JesusChrist. Then,as we look at the last part of this verse, Paul says something interesting: “Towrite the same things to you is not tedious to me, but for you it is safe.” Paulwas not afraid to repeat important truths because repetition helps us greatly. We never outgrow the gospel. We never outgrow the cross. We never outgrow ourneed to trust in the Lord. So today, let me ask you a question: What is tryingto rob your joy? Is it a difficult circumstance? A relationship problem? Ahealth concern? Financial pressure? Fear about the future? Then take a fewminutes today and focus on five things that are always true about Jesus. Repeatthem to yourself: His love never fails. His power never diminishes. Hispresence never leaves us. His work on the cross is complete. His return iscertain. When we begin to focus on these truths, I am telling you, joy willrise in our hearts. Joyis not found in perfect circumstances. It is found in a perfect Person—JesusChrist. And that joy can never be taken away. Let'spray together. Father, thank You that our joy is found in You and not in ourcircumstances. Help us to rejoice in the Lord every day when difficulties come.Remind us that You are still on the throne and that Your promises never fail.Help us to fix our eyes on Jesus and find our strength and our joy in Himalone. Godbless and may you have a wonderful, wonderful day!

Suddenly my bundle stood up, and your bundles all gathered around and bowed low before mine!” 8 His brothers responded, “So you think you will be our king, do you? Do you actually think you will reign over us?” And they hated him all the more because of his dreams and the way he talked about them. 9 Soon Joseph had another dream, and again he told his brothers about it. “Listen, I have had another dream,” he said. “The sun, moon, and eleven stars bowed low before me!” 10 This time he told the dream to his father as well as to his brothers, but his father scolded him. “What kind of dream is that?” he asked. “Will your mother and I and your brothers actually come and bow to the ground before you?” 11 But while his brothers were jealous of Joseph, his father wondered what the dreams meant. Genesis 37:25-28 25 Then, just as they were sitting down to eat, they looked up and saw a caravan of camels in the distance coming toward them. It was a group of Ishmaelite traders taking a load of gum, balm, and aromatic resin from Gilead down to Egypt. 26 Judah said to his brothers, “What will we gain by killing our brother? We'd have to cover up the crime.[a] 27 Instead of hurting him, let's sell him to those Ishmaelite traders. After all, he is our brother—our own flesh and blood!” And his brothers agreed. 28 So when the Ishmaelites, who were Midianite traders, came by, Joseph's brothers pulled him out of the cistern and sold him to them for twenty pieces[b] of silver. And the traders took him to Egypt. Romans 11:29 (MSG) A Complete Israel 25-29 I want to lay all this out on the table as clearly as I can, friends. This is complicated. It would be easy to misinterpret what's going on and arrogantly assume that you're royalty and they're just rabble, out on their ears for good. But that's not it at all. This hardness on the part of insider Israel toward God is temporary. Its effect is to open things up to all the outsiders so that we end up with a full house. Before it's all over, there will be a complete Israel. As it is written, A champion will stride down from the mountain of Zion; he'll clean house in Jacob. And this is my commitment to my people: removal of their sins. From your point of view as you hear and embrace the good news of the Message, it looks like the Jews are God's enemies. But looked at from the long-range perspective of God's overall purpose, they remain God's oldest friends. God's gifts and God's call are under full warranty—never canceled, never rescinded. Transcript (Transcribed by TurboScribe) Thank you, Praise Team. What a wonderful morning of worship again. I missed you on the piano though. 6:10, not 6:07, 6:10. We really want you to do that. Alexander had a little fun with you this morning, but please go do that. 6:10 in the morning or 6:10 in the evening or afternoon, whatever you want to call it. Take a few moments, 5 minutes, 10 minutes, and pray. Pray for our search team in the work that they are doing, finding the next minister for this church. Pray for the person that God is preparing for this position. But also pray for another team because we’ve been struggling for a long time. We’re looking for someone for our youth, and we just do not have folks that are applying, and it’s not just us. It’s all over that we’re struggling with that. Pray for us too. Pray for folks that feel that call to do that. With God’s grace, I think there might be two people. That’ll be good news for those on the team that we might see apply and that we might be able to sit down and talk to. So 6.10 until we find people, take time. Five minutes is all we’re asking. Be quiet, and that’s all you pray for, nothing else. That’s what you pray for. Lord, as we continue our journey with Joseph, not an easy journey, Lord, because it starts in a home, goes to a pit, ends in slavery, but also in the end, it ends in war, more than that. But as we walk this path, help us, Lord, to see you as Joseph did, to see your hand in every moment, even there in the deepest pit, as we said last week. And every day as we walk, and in these moments, may we see Jesus, and only Jesus. I think you got it right, Alexander. Now I moved it, and now it’s all oblong. It started, the trouble started when Joseph’s mouth started. He walked into breakfast that morning, and he was blabbing about this dream that he had. Read with me. I’m going to do the verses little by little. It’s a little bit of fun. One night, Joseph had a dream, and when he told his brothers about it, they hated him more than ever. Remember I told you verse five last week? Listen to this dream, he said. We were out in the field, tying up bundles of grain, and suddenly my bundle stood up, and your bundles all gathered around and bowed low before mine. I do not know what Joseph was thinking. Was he really thinking that his brothers were going to just slap him on the back and say, baby brother, that’s amazing. We can’t wait to bow down before you. Well, they didn’t. They kicked dirt in his face, and they told him to take a hike. Verse nine, verse eight. His brothers responded, so you think you will be our king, do you? Do you actually think you’ll reign over us? And they hated him all the more because of his dreams and the way he talked about them. Now you’d think he would take a hint, but he didn’t. So he just comes right back, and this time with a dream even more elaborate than the first one, verse nine. Soon Joseph had another dream, and again he told his brothers about it. Listen, I’ve had another dream, he said. The sun, the moon, and eleven stars bowed low before me. This time he told the dream to his father as well as to his brothers, but his father scolded him. What kind of dream is that? He asked, will your mother and I and your brothers actually come and bow to the ground before you? But while his brothers were jealous of Joseph, his father wondered what the dream was. He should have kept those dreams to himself, and I think that’s what he was thinking if you think back to last week’s sermon when he was sitting there right at the bottom of that dark pit, heard the brothers up there laughing and having fun. And then all of a sudden, it’s not just their voices, there are other voices too. So let’s go to verse 25. Then just as they were sitting down to eat, the brothers, they looked up and saw a caravan of camels in the distance coming toward them. It was a group of Ishmaelite traders taking a load of gum, balm, and aromatic resin from Gilead down to Egypt. Judah said to his brothers, what will we gain by killing our brother? We’d have to cover up the crime. Instead of hurting him, let’s sell him to those Ishmaelite traders after all. He’s our brother, our own flesh and blood. And his brothers agreed. So when the Ishmaelites who were Midianite traders came by, Joseph’s brothers pulled him out of the cistern and sold him to them for 20 pieces of silver. And the traders took him to Egypt. Just like that. Brothers pulled him out, took the money, grabbed the garment, left, and Joseph had no choice. He was on his way to Egypt to be a slave. Can I just stop the story there for a second? Because I want to set the scene for you for what this sermon is all about. Not too long ago, Joseph had everything going his way. He was hanging out at home. Brothers had to work. He was the loved son and everything was going to him. He had his own tailor who made his own special garment for him. He had these wonderful lofty dreams. But like the old saying goes, what goes up must come down. And Joseph’s life came down with a crash. Down, down, down. Put down by the brothers, thrown down into a cistern, sold down the river of slavery, led down the road to Egypt. Stripped of everything. His name, his status, his position, everything he had, everything he hoped to have, it all went down the drain. Down to Egypt. And this is what the sermon is all about. Because here’s the thing. Life sometimes can do that. It can get us down. We even have sayings for that. I’m down to my last dollar. Just yesterday, this was not written in the sermon, but it gave me in a moment. As I was driving to Zehrs to pick up something, I saw this young lady come to the place where she always stands at the traffic light. And she had this cardboard and she was writing her cardboard again. And as I came back from Zehrs, she was ready and she stood there and she had a down on there. Down on my luck. Because that’s where she is. She’s down. Down to my last penny. Down on my back. Down and out. All of a sudden life takes us down. Boy, that’s a downer this morning. That’s not where I’m going. It takes us down. Now let’s go back to Joseph. Hold on to that. Joseph. When he arrives in Egypt, he has nothing. It’s all taken away. His family, his home, his country. Everything. He has lost everything. But the one thing he didn’t lose was his belief in God’s plan for his life. Joseph never stopped believing that. Never mind how down he went. Down into the pit. Down with the Ishmaelites. Down to Egypt. Down into the dungeon of the jail there. He never stopped believing in the fact that this was God’s plan for his life and nothing would change that. And he was going to hold on to that plan because he knew. Remember last week, Genesis 50 verse 20. You weaved evil. But God is the amazing weaver and God re-weaved, re-wove those plans. And they became plans not just good for me but good for everyone else. Joseph never stopped believing God’s plan and that God had a destiny for him. And I think sometimes, forgive me when I say this, that we forget that. When we hit those Egypt moments, I think sometimes we forget God has a plan. In my, where are we now, 44 years as a minister, I’ve heard many Joseph stories. I told you one last week. I’ve seen many folks going down to Egypt and I’ve always asked them this one question. So with all of this, what is the one thing that you still have that you cannot lose? What is the one thing you still have that you can’t lose? It can’t be taken away. Difficulties can strip us from so many things. Struggles can overwhelm us. But the one thing that no one and nothing can take away from me is God’s destiny for me. But let me explain that word destiny because we sometimes think of fate. Oh, it’s my fate. It’s my destiny. It’s just gonna, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. God’s destiny for you is a little different. Can I use the Hebrew word because the Hebrew word is way more beautiful. Amira, I don’t know if it’s the same in Arabic. Ye’ut in Hebrew. Ye’ut. It’s a yot and a ayin and a vav and a dalet in Hebrew. Amira would understand that. Ye’ut means purpose. It also means life’s plan. It also means that which God made me to be and that which God wants me to do. One thing nothing can take away from me is God’s destiny for me. Think of Joseph. And here’s the thing that makes it true for each one of us. The reason we can say that to one another is because of this fact of who you are. Kerry, who are you? You’re not just Kerry. You are Kerry, the child of God. That’s what makes you, you. The fact that we are children of God. Because why is that important? When God says I’m his child, all God does is give the best that God has to me in my life. Also when I’m down in the pit. Also when I’m with Ishmaelite traitors. Also when I land in Egypt and I don’t know where I’m going to be. Also when I’m trying to do good and I land in jail. God still says you’re my child. I have a purpose. I have a plan and I will make that plan work for your life because you’re my child. And we’re going to sing that. I specifically asked Kerry. I sent her a text this week and said can we add another song which we didn’t. We’re going to sing that in a little while where we say I’m no longer a slave to fear or a slave to sin. I am a child of God. The words go from my mother’s womb you have chosen me. Love has called my name. Think of that for a second. That’s who you are. Jeremiah wrote that. Even before I was born you knew me. The Psalm 139 says in my mother’s womb when I was being knit together you already knew who I am. From my mother’s womb you’ve called and you’ve woven me. You’ve called me. Your love has called my name. And then it goes one step further. The song says that I’ve been born again into your family. It’s God’s family we’re there to take care of each other in those down moments. We’re there to lift each other up. We’re there to laugh with each other Paul the young when we can sit on the stool of repentance and just love one another and just smile. I’ve been born again into your family. And then those beautiful words your love your blood flows through my veins. That’s who you are. A child of God. God has a purpose and a plan and a destiny for you even sometimes if it feels it’s going down. Don’t believe the tombstone that says you’re just a dash between two dates. You’re far more than that. Don’t fall into into small thinking. This world can take everything away from you. The one thing they cannot take away is the love of the one who has your destiny in his hand. And sometimes on the way to Egypt we forget that. And then we redefine ourselves according to our catastrophes the things that happen in our lives. And I look at myself well I’m the bankrupt businessman. I’m the recovering addict. I’m the divorcee. I’m the one with the scars. No. No that’s not who you are. That’s not what God does in your life. Despite those little setbacks God is the God of the big comeback. Think of Joseph. He was a nothing in a bit. And look what he was. Because God had a plan not just for Joseph and I’m getting ahead of myself but we’ll get there. Not just for Joseph but for his brothers and for his father and for his family. They would all come back to Egypt and they would settle and God would take care of him. Joseph would understand the dreams of Pharaoh and they could help the world who would come and would come by from them when there was no food. That was God’s plan. Although it looked like it was going down, down, down. God knew about that. Don’t put yourself down. Don’t allow the world to play the down game with you. You are God’s child and God is true to his promises. Listen to this beautiful promise from Romans chapter 11. God’s gifts and God’s call are under full warranty. They never cancelled and they are never rescinded. Believe that. That’s for your life. You’re God’s child. God never goes back on his promises. You’re more than anything that this world could ever throw at you. Remember the question and you’ll put that slide on there. I like that big orange slide. The question I always ask, so what do you still have that you cannot? God’s plan for your life never changes because God never changes. Survival in Egypt begins with a yes to God and to God’s plan. And yes, you have something that you cannot lose. Amen. Take a few moments of silent prayer. Thank you. Father, you are good. Even when we’re in the pit and when we’re in the hands of the Ishmaelites and we have no idea, because you know those amazing plans that you have made. It’s tough sometimes. We go through real difficult times and we kind of wonder. But then we see you and we know. Thank you, Lord. Thank you that you have us, our plans, our destiny in your hands. Not fate. We don’t care about that. We care about you. Thank you, Lord. We love you. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
Zach returns from Italy with a sobering reminder from Rome's ruins that every earthly kingdom eventually falls, but the kingdom of God keeps moving forward. Jase, Al, and Zach dig into how trials expose what comfort hides, and what it means to have a double-minded soul. Jase helps Zach's son, Bear, through a panicky faith moment, and it ends up being an awesome reminder of the courage young Christians need in today's world. Life often brings unexpected storms that can leave us feeling shipwrecked and broken. The Apostle Paul experienced this when his ship was destroyed during a violent storm while he was following God's will. Sometimes we face difficulties because of our own poor choices, sometimes because of others' actions, and sometimes because God allows storms for His greater purposes. When everything falls apart, we must grab hold of something that will sustain us - Jesus Christ and His Word. Even in our darkest moments, God provides help through unexpected sources and uses our storms to position us for ministry to others who are struggling.Thank you for joining us at NorthRidge Church! In this episode, I walk you through a week that really tried my patients. It starts at the dentist, where getting numb took way more effort than it should've, and somehow, I still thought eating dinner an hour later was a good idea. Spoiler: it wasn't.Then we head outside, where mowing the yard turned into a full‑blown mud‑wrestling match between the mower and myself. I grabed the truck as a tag team partner, but it turned on me too. It's a story of numb lips, bad timing, buried equipment, and the kind of week you just have to drink to and laugh about later.

Deuteronomy 4, Moses warned the people first that they must go in and possess the Promised Land, but that then (verses 26-27), once they were in, he said, ‘You're going to go through difficulty and trial.' When I preach the Gospel, I am a realist. I do not tell people that coming to Christ is suddenly an end to all their problems, everything will be transformed, living on cloud nine, twanging a harp! Let's be realistic, the church is called into battle to fight for the Kingdom! Yes, me as an evangelist winning people for Christ, but also you, like me, fighting for those things which are our right to possess, like healing and deliverance. We're at war with an enemy who is fighting to prevent us possessing! I hate the devil, and I fight him by demonstrating the power of God. You must fight him, not allow him to stop you receiving. Some look to the church for ceremony, for a formula, for peace – but I find God most, not in the calm, but in the reality of my life
Five years ago, 2021, David Jones and Naomi Murphy began the Locked up Living podcast. Over 400 episodes later we are still going and are proud of the library of conversations we have produced with so many excellent colleagues. This is an extended version of an episode from 2021 previously shared with Dr Fiona Warren and focuses on the closing of the Henderson Hospital. The full episode with Dr Warren features a discussion about the value and meaning of research in a socio-political climate that wants to look elsewhere. This episode features Dr. Christopher Scanlon, a consultant psychotherapist with decades of experience working with complex trauma and mental health services. Chris offers a candid reflection on the evolution, challenges, and possibilities of therapeutic communities, emphasizing the importance of social and relational approaches over purely biomedical models. Key topics: The history and legacy of Henderson Hospital as a pioneering therapeutic community How group and sociotherapy approaches foster belonging, resilience, and growth Critiques of the biomedical model and the limitations of randomized controlled trials for complex social interventions The impact of societal changes, neoliberal policies, and professional rivalries on specialist services The concept of the "unhoused mind" and societal exclusion as a psychosocial phenomenon Lessons from the demise of services like Henderson and what can be learned about service design and relational capacity The importance of community, belonging, and holding space for marginalized individuals How social dynamics and professional hierarchies influence treatment and organizational culture The threat of privatization and market-driven approaches to mental health services The importance of housing, inclusion, and societal belonging in healing trauma Timestamps: 00:00 - Introduction to Chris Scanlon's background and work 01:08 - The psychosocial orientation versus psychoanalytic models 02:05 - The role of group analysis and community in treatment 03:23 - Experiences working at Henderson Hospital 04:37 - The interface of community assessment and outreach 06:15 - Challenges of referral and ethical consent in high-security settings 08:11 - Critique of personality disorder label and trauma adaptation 09:37 - Systemic dysfunction and medicalization of complex trauma 11:34 - Attitudes towards difficult patients and systemic resistance 13:19 - The system's reliance on medication and lack of holistic treatment 14:17 - Iatrogenic effects and the failure of biomedical dominance 16:10 - Societal trauma, racism, exclusion, and the "unhoused" state 17:16 - Organizational culture at Henderson and peer influence 18:48 - The significance of social relationships over formal therapy 19:55 - Key moments of social connection as pivotal to healing 20:34 - The decline of sociotherapy in prison and community settings 22:39 - Hierarchies, professional identity, and relational humility 23:23 - The undervaluing of milieu and social space in treatment 24:50 - Difficulties of measuring multi-modal, relational interventions 26:54 - Challenges of evidence-based support and cost-effectiveness 29:56 - The cost benefits of residential and community-based services 32:32 - Political and professional rivalries in resource allocation 35:06 - The impact of commissioning practices on service sustainability 36:11 - Lessons from the closure of Henderson and systemic failure 38:09 - The role of community and relational trust in service efficacy 40:12 - The importance of understanding failure through political and social lenses 43:27 - The influence of market forces and privatization on service models 44:30 - The threat of profit motives and the privatization of mental health in prison 49:53 - The challenge of belonging and power in community settings 57:29 - Building capacity for creativity and resilience through social spaces 60:06 - The importance of trust, shared authority, and authentic relationships 61:52 - The culture of inquiry and the transferential space 66:14 - The significance of presence, continuity, and shared lived experience 68:42 - The concept of the "Hendo" as a transference object and community symbol 73:56 - The "unhoused mind": societal exclusion, trauma, and belonging 76:47 - Society's role in housing and trauma, and the psychosocial lens 78:35 - Broader societal issues: extremism, colonialism, and systemic injustice 80:36 - The healing power of shared community and relational space 81:12 - Personal reflections on the loss of Henderson and current gaps 81:58 - The dangers of societal disconnection and the importance of inclusive belonging

Detours, Delays, and Difficulties PART 2 | Rick Godwin by Summit Church Podcast
Welcome to The Turf Zone podcast. On this episode we preview presentations and activities for the procrastinators recertification seminar on June 11, 2026 in Maryland. Introductory comments are from 8:00 AM to 8:10 AM with moderator Dr. Carroll. From 8:10 AM to 9:00 AM will be a presentation titled “Thinking Outside the Chemical Box: Prospects for Alternative Approaches to Weed Management in Turf” by Dr. Daniel Buonaiuto, Assistant Professor, Department of Plant Science and Landscape Architecture, University of Maryland. For the past half century, the field of weed science has been focused on chemically managing noxious weeds and invasive plants. While this focus has led to useful advances in weed control, it has also given rise to herbicide resistant weed genotypes and increased incidences of negative environmental and health impacts. Scientists are calling for a new weed science research agenda focused on integrating chemical control with mechanical, cultural and biological management approaches, but new research agendas take time, and the weeds are growing right now. In this session we'll survey the tools and techniques that are available right now that can aid turf professionals in managing problematic weeds with fewer chemicals. We'll also discuss the potential for practitioner-research partnerships to rapidly advance our collective expertise in integrated weed management in turfgrass systems. From 9:00 AM to 9:50 AM will be a presentation titled “Improving Dollar Spot Control While Reducing Fungicide Inputs” by Mr. Uday Kumar, Doctoral Candidate, Department of Plant Science and Landscape Architecture. Dollar spot is the most common and costly disease on golf course fairways in the Mid-Atlantic region, and most courses rely heavily on calendar-based fungicide programs to keep it in check. This presentation covers two practical, research-backed approaches that can help superintendents get better control while reducing the number of sprays applied each season. Three years of field trials at the University of Maryland showed that timing fungicide applications using the Smith–Kerns dollar spot prediction model at the 20% threshold provided the same level of control as a standard 14-day calendar program while reducing applications by two to four sprays per season. In addition, nightly UVC irradiation delivered by an autonomous mower consistently suppressed dollar spot in lab, greenhouse, and field conditions. When UVC was combined with fungicides at 28-day intervals, turf quality remained acceptable while significantly reducing chemical inputs. Together, these tools offer a more precise and sustainable approach to dollar spot management on golf course fairways. Presentations will break from 9:50 AM to 10:00 AM then resume with a presentation titled “IPM Strategies for Ornamental Landscape Diseases” from 10:00 AM to 10:50 AM presented by Dr. David Clement, Plant Pathologist, University of Maryland Extension. Many landscape ornamental diseases require early diagnosis for effective management. Scouting is critical to finding symptoms early. This presentation will cover the common diseases in Maryland landscapes along with key diagnostic symptoms coupled with Integrated Pest Management strategies. From 10:50 AM to 11:40 AM Mr. Geoffrey Rinehart, Senior Lecturer, Institute of Applied Agriculture, University of Maryland will present “Fertilizer Product Selection and Nanotechnology Use in Fertilizer Programs” This presentation will provide information about what nanotechnology is and how it is being researched to improve the efficiency and efficacy of turf fertilizers and plant protectant products. In addition, this talk will encompass an overview of the major nitrogen fertilizer sources and their respective release characteristics. Timings for utilizing various major fertilizer sources for improved turfgrass health and effective nitrogen utilization will be discussed. From 11:40 AM to 12:30 PM Dr. Mark Carroll. Associate Professor, Department of Plant Science and Landscape Architecture, University of Maryland will present “Organic Lawn Care: Principles, Science and Landscape Architecture, University of Maryland” Synthetic fertilizers and pesticide treatments are often the primary chemical inputs in conventional lawn care; however, growing human health and environmental concerns have many homeowners seeking lawn care programs that are marketed as Natural or Organic. Natural and Organic programs emphasize the use of materials and practices that enrich soil organic matter and promote presence of organisms perceived to be beneficial to promoting plant health. This presentation will review the principles underlying an organic approach to turfgrass management and will provide an overview of the materials being used by lawn care operators in Maryland that offer organic or natural lawn care services. Difficulties in adhering to organic precepts when offering an organic or natural lawn care program will also be discussed. From 12:30 PM to 1:15 PM the presentations will break for lunch and resume with a presentation titled “Pesticide and Fertilizer Spray Calibration Field Demonstration” from 1:15 PM to 2:00 PM by Steve Holman, Paint Branch Turfgrass Facility Research Technician. When the storms of life come (and they do), Jesus followers should show up for one another, fueled by the love of God. Scripture: John 17:1-11
How can we practice without ignoring the world, but also without being overwhelmed by it? We can learn something from a koan involving the 9th century Chan master Zhaozhou (Joshu): A monk asked, "When a great difficulties come, how should I avoid them?" Zhaozhou said, "Just right." We can include great difficulties in our perception of this life without being destroyed by them, letting our hearts break without rejecting this world or becoming consumed by anger or grief.
