August 29th 2013 After the highest high the lowest low sometimes follows. Not in our case but it has been a disappointing end of the week slump. After a crushing 5-0 win vs Rayo Vallecano most fans turned their heads towards the Supercup tie that was to be decided at Camp Nou hoping to win the 6th title in a little more than 3 years. Atleti tried hard, fought bravely but weren't able to score a goal. Barcelona much less fearsome than we ever remember them in the past did little and less to deserve a better result, the end of tiki-taka is nigh? For the moment what we do know is that a full season and a half of Cholo has made us recovered most of our international prestige and rivals dare not look down at us as rivals. Sweet and sour week because if you have to lose, it's always better to do so putting up a good fight, and hell, we sure did. August 19th 2013 And we are finally back. We hope to share with you another exciting season full of trophies and history in the making. We have sorely missed recording the show and we apologize not having enough time for the podcast at the end of last season. We hope to have set enough failover devices and people to never let you without your weekly installment of the podcast. Week 1. Sevilla 1-3 Atlético de Madrid as Martin dubs it a thumping win to open the season. Costa is in better shape than ever and Koke is turning into a key player match upon match. We also marvelled with Cebolla's dream goal in a Maradona like dribbling dash from midfield. Beating a strong opponent as Sevilla to kick off the season is a sensational way to win and places us in the top 3 in the chart from the very start. Ahead of us is the huge challenge of a two leg Supercup final versus behemoth FC Barcelona. The reward is as big as the challenge, the opportunity of adding a sixth trophy in a span of 4 years, a feat very hard to match. The weekend will also bring us the match versus Week 2 Liga opponent Rayo Vallecano. Finally we also cover some of the promising (and the embarassing) signings, almost signings, sales, almost sales of the preseason. NOTICE: Recorded on April 19th 2013. With an important post production delay, here is the latest episode of This is Atleti. Our apologies if the match account is outdated. Still interesting stuff and we wouldn't miss it if we were you! April19th 2013 We talk about the huge Granada win that erases doubts the team was having due to not being able to win in the last two matches. Getafe and Valencia created doubts for the team that Granada helped ease the pains. But right around the corner is the mother of all challenges. Receiving archenemies Real Madrid is the first of the 3 big steps at the end of this tough season end. Also the mother of all fan experiences. Our host Ricardo Menéndez tells us about the unbelievable day trip Coca-Cola and Atlético de Madrid prepared for a selected group of Atleti bloggers. From Neptuno fountain they were toured and visited the museum, the store, received customized kits, played ball with Juanfran, met legends Caminero, Germán Burgos and Adelardo, celebrities like Carlos Jean, visited exclusive areas like the dressing room, held up cups like if they were team captains, dressed in red and white kits...what else can we add? Simply unbelievable. Ricardo Menendez (@rickyam on Twitter) co hosts the Spanish version of the show Esto es Atleti. March 20th 2013 After the Real Sociedad slump an away victory would seem the most soothing way to get back on track and take the interantional break with a positive atmosphere. As we say in the headlines of the show, Diego Costa single handedly managed to win the game and beat Osasuna at Reyno de Navarro. The only royalty around to be seen was the Beast eclipsing the name of the venue and the Tiger that seems to run out of ideas when Costa is on the pitch. Are they incompatible? March 6th 2013 Martin, Derek and Ricky get together again after Simeone and Atlético reach an astounding 4 year contract extension deal that leaves Atleti solid as never before in the coaching front. With that out of the way and possibly helping to securing retaining key players (the likes of Courtois, Diego Costa and who knows if Falcao) and drawing other interesting prospects towards colchonero camp next season we also talk about the last game played and the upcoming one. Málaga was a very solid draw away but spoilt fans can never get enough of winning and some grumbling was heard for dropping points. With the lead over Real Madrid for P2 of La Liga narrowed to a single point we can only plan for victory against tough rival Real Sociedad on Sunday night and prove ourselves as well that the February slump is completely forgotten. Atleti have won three out of four cup finals held in Madrid against Real. Curiosly all three win happened at Santiago Bernabeu and Atleti's sole defeat happened when hosting the final. January 26th, 2013 Atleti continued their consecutive home win mark: 11 Liga matches, the last 8 ones shut outs as Barça shows signs of weakness. Time to stop looking down and start looking up? Juanfran's injury was covered by a promising Manquillo but the other side of the coin brought a worrying injury for Falcao, though less serious than initially estimated. Will the team perform without the Tiger? After a three year injury, Filipe Luis is finally back in the Brazil side as is Miranda. Scolari is thus rewarding the shut out D-Fense. Arda denies a desire to leave and blame's it on the press as usual. The Tiger and the Cub One September 28th 2012 Following up with Atleti's excellent moment we review the two latest wins vs Real Valladolid and Real Betis. Atleti now second in La Liga, something we had grown used to not experiencing has Falcao as main killer weapon. The Colombian continues to set records for the rojiblancos and has found a more than decent replacement in Diego Costa willing to take the role of becoming Falcao's natural replacement: the Cub? We also cover the goalkeeping issue. Is Asenjo the best choice to fill Courtois' shoes? Ahead is Español and maybe a chance to lead the league. The season is getting better and better but will all our hopes fade as fast as we built them up? Finally we also talk about the youth system and the debate around Atleti B's coach Alfredo's results. The Second Line One September 21st 2012 Our first European clash of the season was a great chance (risky as it might have sounded at first) for our less frequent starters to earn their stripes and get involved in the tour de force Atleti's stride through European championships has been in the last 13 matches collecting an astonishing 13 consecutive undefeated matches including two European Finals averaging 3 goals per match. Tel Aviv witnessed a sweatless 0-3 win with emerging player to follow Diego Costa scoring a very nice goal and proving a valid backup for Falcao and Raúl García popping into the starting eleven and receiving man of the match recognition for his performance. Before travelling there we went through a 100% Atleti style rollercoaster versus Rayo with 70 minutes to remember and 7 to forget and almost to regret. After leading the match 4-0 the excess of substitutions in a short period of time added to the lack of intensity in the final part of the match allowed Rayo to try a comeback leaving a tight score and wobbly knees in Atleti supporters. The final 4-3 score must be a warning that no win is easy or should be taken for granted. We asked Billy Edwards (BillyEdwards94 on Twitter) from MadridAtleticos.com and AtleticoFans.com to join us to talk about Cantera specially the severe slump the B team is facing right before receiving Real Madrid C from the bottom of the chart. We also have writer Florian Tiemann (@Flooo09 on Twitter) from MadridAtleticos.com to give his views on the recent Atlético news and his views on these two aformentioned matches. And it's our second recent episode without Gary. Come back home soon! Ricardo Menendez (@rickyam on Twitter) co hosts the Spanish version of the show Esto es Atleti. The Super One 12th September 2012 The end of August brought a solid 4-0 home Liga victory (vs Bielsa's Athletic Bilbao and another huge European success as Atletico raised their fourth trophy in 2 years, this time destroying Chelsea waltzing their way to a final 4-1 score. Falcao, man of the match, man of the month scored a double hat trick four days apart and led to rumors on his upcoming sale in the next transfer windows as his father claimed him a lifelong Real Madrid supporters. The Colombian star striker during the international break reinforced his compromise to the red and whites and assured everyone willing to listen that he wished to win even more silverware with Atleti in the future. On the other side of the balance the unquestioned best rojiblanco ambassador ever, Fernando Torres received continuous support from the rival rojiblanco fans at Monaco in a night to remember. Fernando, come home. Susanne (@Mirai_Torres on Twitter) from the German Peña and Gert (@ssdshirt on Twitter) from the Belgian one are on today's show to tell us about their trip to Monaco. Martin Rosenow (@atletideneptuno on Twitter) , who will be appearing often on the show adds the overseas international touch. Besides the SuperCup that seemed to cover all other news we discuss Atlético's debt which led UEFA to temporarily block the prize money for the previous as part of the Economical Fair Play policy. Atlético (the only major European side to be warned by UEFA) claim there is no reason to receive the warning and that their payments are in order. More news on this front in weeks to come. Bad news though is that unfortunately our overworked Gary missed the season starter but he will be back soon. A lot to talk about: Post Europa League Offseason, Preseason, the kick off schedules, match day 1 vs Levante, rising star Oliver Torres, cantera - the new hope, the player list growing thinner by the day and the upcoming Supercup vs Chelsea among other. May 15th 2012 The One when we were chamions again ¡Campeones! Wednesday 9th of May saw Atleti collect its 5th European trophy, 3rd in 3 seasons. The glorious win at Bucharest with 2 goals of tournament top scorer Falcao and a great third one by Diego. Will these be the last European goals to be scored for Atlético by the two excellent marquee players? The end of La Liga left Atleti just one point away from qualifying for Champions League football next season. The sadness anyway at El Madrigal was on the other side where Villareal was relegated as a consequence of Atleti's 0-1 victory in the closing gameday. Sad day for the yellow submarine. We have a look ahead at what to expect from the squad in terms of getting reinforcement in key positions and leave mentions of the season and a more thorough look at la cantera for a season finale episode where we hope to have our good friend Martin Rosenow tell us his experience as corresponsal for This is Atleti at the Colombian friendly matches. Stay tuned we haven't closed for summer yet. Gary is cofounder of www.madridatleticos.com writes for US based ForzaFutbol and Madrid based magazine European Vibe.
