Welcome, friends, family and early listeners. I want to start off with a big thank you. This is the last episode of the season and I am glad that we've had such a great run. In this episode, I am talking about the philosophy of the late great 18th century philosopher Immanuel Kant. In sound, I dive into one of Disney's most incredible and bold moves, the fantasia project. Following that up, I talk about bringing scientific thought to a broader audience with one of my college buds, pretty much my roomate from our university days, Shibl. Here's what you can expect in this episode - We'll have a quick mindful moment to bring us together - today's theme is taking a break, when it's necessary. At 6min together, we'll wonder what would life be like without our rose colored glasses of space, time, and numbers? How do we know these are actually part of the world? Next, I'll talk a little about the wine I am sipping this episode - bringing the sensibility of burgundy to the northern coasts of California with Littorai At 14.5min, we'll look at an iconic pairing of classical music, innovative sound techniques, and animations coming together with Walt's groundbreaking Fantasia Following that - we'll spin the globe and learn about a new location - this time it's the furthest reaches of our country, only 50 miles off the coast of Asia, separating the Arctic and Pacific is the state of Alaska At 25min, I'll interview Shibl about our university days, inspiring thinkers, appreciating beauty and ways to weave science into our daily lives. This grammy award winning song is one of my all time favorites. Originally from the ‘92 animation of Lion King, it was written by Tim Rice, who's now got a show out on Seabourn, and Alan Menken. Tim Rice won the Academy, Golden Globe, and Grammy for song of the year. Most renditions of the song showcase the fabulous polyphony of stacked harmonies between male and female. Lyrically, this song takes us on a journey of discovery - and reminds us of the adventure of stepping outside your box for a moment. This song happens in the script where Aladdin convinces the confined Jasmine to jump on the magic carpet so he can show her the sights and sounds of the world outside her castle. It symbolizes freedom. If you'd like to learn more, click here to hear the excerpt. /// Thanks again for your time. I hope it was engaging, entertaining and enlightening! In this excerpt, we’ll look into the career of and lessons learned from Frank Sinatra I think the ‘Meaningful Message’ from Sinatra’s career is a lesson to have faith in yourself and never give up. It's made clear in this song 'my way' The decade of the 50s, was a particularly interesting time in his career. He lost his recording and film contracts early on as a result of some bad decisions. A few years later however, he made a triumphant comeback and won the Oscar for He's playing a soldier in the movie from here to eternity. Things looked on the up and up, but once again, towards the end of this decade, he lost his popularity. His sales slipped again because of the up and coming rock and roll music. So with a couple of his friends he went to set up his own record label, Reprise. However, he didn’t give up, and by the mid-60s, he was back on top, winning Grammys and becoming a main attraction in the adult playground of Las Vegas. The career heights that he reached, especially after climbing from the depths of despair, is something that few public figures ever achieve. His words say it best. I've loved, I've laughed, and cried I've had my fill, my share of losing And now, as tears subside I find it all so amusing To think I did all that And may I say, not in a shy way Oh no, oh no, not me I did it my way...
