It's Wednesday, February 25th, A.D. 2026. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard on 140 radio stations and at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Jonathan Clark Yemen authorities arrested 20 Christians Authorities in Yemen, a country in the Middle East bordering Saudi Arabia to the north, have arrested at least 20 Christians in recent months. For simply professing Christ, these believers can face torture and even death. The Islamic country is located in the south of the Arabian peninsula. It is illegal for Christians to publicly display or share their faith there.  International Christian Concern notes, “The arrests in Yemen paradoxically confirm what missionaries and human rights observers have long suspected: despite being one of the most dangerous places on Earth to be a Christian, Yemen hosts a growing indigenous church.” According to Open Doors, Yemen is the third most oppressive country worldwide for Christians. In Matthew 16:18, Jesus said, “On this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hell shall not prevail against it.” Christian Canadian fined $750,000 for opposing gender confusion The British Columbia Human Rights Tribunal fined a Canadian Christian $750,000 last week for opposing gender confusion. Barry Neufield is a former Board of Education trustee for the district of Chilliwack. He posted on social media that there are only two sexes, and he opposed transgender ideology in the schools. Neufield wrote on Facebook that the widespread embrace of such ideology has “demonized people of faith who believe that God created humans male and female: In the Image of God.” Judge fined Maryland school district for promoting sexual perversion In the United States, a federal judge fined Maryland's largest school district $1.5 million last week for promoting sexual perversity. Parents sued Montgomery County Public Schools for not allowing them to opt their children out of storybooks featuring such perversity. Eric Baxter with The Becket Fund for Religious Liberty commented, “Public schools nationwide are on notice: running roughshod over parental rights and religious freedom isn't just illegal—it's costly.” Louisiana allowed to display 10 Commandments in classrooms Louisiana can now enforce its law for every public school classroom to display the Ten Commandments.  The 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals issued the ruling last week in favor of the displays. The ruling stated, “There can be no doubt that the Ten Commandments bear immense religious significance. … But they also ‘have historical significance as one of the foundations of our legal system.'” Deuteronomy 6:7 and 9 says this of God's commandments: “You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up. ... You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.” Vermont foster families allowed to affirm Biblical view The state of Vermont will no longer require families to abandon their religious beliefs in order to be foster families. The new policy comes thanks to the litigation of Alliance Defending Freedom. The issue began after Vermont revoked the licenses of two Christian families for opposing gender confusion.  The Christian legal rights group's Senior Counsel, Johannes Delphonse, said, “This is an incredible victory for children in Vermont's foster-care system.” Conservative Methodist denomination hits 7,000 churches worldwide The Global Methodist Church recently announced it reached 7,000 churches worldwide.  The denomination launched in 2022 after years of internal conflict within the United Methodist Church over human sexuality. Many theologically conservative churches left the mainline denomination since then. The Global Methodist Church posted on Facebook, “This moment reminds us that growth isn't just measured in numbers — it's found in repentance, renewal, and lives being transformed by Jesus Christ.” U.S. economy growing slower than expected U.S. economic growth was slower than expected during the fourth quarter of 2025. The U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis reported real gross domestic product increased at an annual rate of 1.4 percent last quarter. That's down from 4.4 percent during the third quarter and much lower than expectations.  Government spending was down during the fourth quarter because of the record-length shutdown.  Chicago man saved baby out of frigid Lake Michigan And finally, a Chicago man saved an eight-month-old baby from the frigid 35-degree waters of Lake Michigan last Wednesday.  Block Club Chicago reports 30-year-old Lio Cundiff was taking a walk along the lake at Belmont Harbor. That's when he heard a woman scream. Gusting winds had sent her stroller with her baby into the lake.  Cundiff can't swim. But he dove in to save the baby anyways. He wasn't sure how long he could keep her above water, but thankfully other bystanders stepped in and helped.  He said, “If she's going down, I'm going down with her. I couldn't live with myself if that baby hadn't made it. … If it wasn't for everyone being alert and helping, I don't know what would've happened. I'm very thankful.” Close And that's The Worldview on this Wednesday, February 25th, in the year of our Lord 2026. Follow us on X or subscribe for free by Spotify, Amazon Music, or by iTunes or email to our unique Christian newscast at www.TheWorldview.com.  Plus, you can get the Generations app through Google Play or The App Store. Arizona Gold and Silver Senior Vice President of Exploration Dr Lex Lambeck joined Steve Darling from Proactive at the company's Philadelphia Project to provide an update on active drilling and outline upcoming exploration plans in Nevada. Speaking from the Philadelphia property in Arizona, Dr. Lambeck said the company is currently drilling hole 161 and has intersected what he described as “double the thickness of the mineralized interval that we've never seen before.” While laboratory assays are still pending to confirm grades, he noted that the visual mineralization has generated significant excitement within the exploration team and could represent a meaningful expansion of the system. The company is also awaiting assay results from holes 159 and 160. Hole 159 stepped out approximately 60 metres north of hole 158, while hole 160 extended roughly 60 metres south of hole 156, continuing to demonstrate strike expansion and reinforcing the continuity of mineralization along the trend. Beyond Philadelphia, Dr. Lambeck provided an update on the company's Silverton property in Nevada. Strong surface samples grading antimony have prompted the company to prepare for a potential drill program. Drill contractors have been invited to submit bids, with plans targeting approximately 27 shallow holes ranging from 100 to 150 feet in depth to test identified antimony anomalies. Dr. Lambeck also emphasized the broader scale potential at Philadelphia, highlighting the extent of the Arabian structure and noting that additional targets, including Red Hills, are planned for future drilling pending permitting approvals. The ongoing drill program and expanding target pipeline underscore the company's strategy to grow mineralization at Philadelphia while advancing new opportunities at Silverton. #proactiveinvestors #arizonagoldandsilverinc #tsxv #azs #otcqb #azasf #GoldExploration #PhiladelphiaProject #MiningNews #JuniorMining #HeapLeach #Metallurgy #ResourceInvesting #GoldStocks #PreciousMetals #MiningNews #GoldExploration #SilverMining #JuniorMining #ArizonaMining #GoldInvesting #DrillResults #MiningInfrastructure #ProactiveInvestors #perryzone #risingfawnzone #Antimony #CriticalMinerals #ArizonaGoldAndSilver #MiningNews #SilvertonProject #GoldExploration #JointVentureOpportunity #NevadaMining #DrillPermit

Send us a textWhat if a theme park felt like one sweeping coastline, where every turn on the path opened to another country across the water? We set our sights on the Mediterranean and build a Disney-style destination that blends living folklore, IP favorites, and seaside hospitality—sparked by the bright kick of a limoncello mule.We start with two complementary master plans. One, Solaria Kingdom, assembles five distinct lands—Italy, Greece, Iberia, Arabia and Persia, plus a Star Wars nod to Tunisia—around lagoons and layered sightlines. The other shapes a horseshoe park on Valencia's coast with a rotating marble-and-gold wishing star as the icon, visible from every land and designed to harmonize with Greek temples and Spanish bell towers. Both approaches favor connected views: castles and stars that “translate” architecturally from different vantage points, giving each land its own face while preserving a unified world.IP comes to life through culture-forward design. Star Wars: Villains of Mos Eisley embraces Tatooine's cinematic roots with a sandcrawler shop, a build-your-own remote pod racer, and a Boonta Eve race that pits four vehicles side by side on a desert track. Italy's Porto Fantasia pairs Pinocchio with Luca in a Vespa ride through a bustling port town, all horns, laundry lines, and festival banners. Greece rises to a peak with a Mount Olympus coaster diving in and out over the sea and a waterfront of tavernas serving fish, gyros, pastries, and strong coffee. Wish anchors the emotional center: a Rosas castle with live Storytellers Hall productions and an interactive Wish Station where guests send their wishes skyward and return later for a keepsake moment. We round out the shoreline with an Iberian fishing village animated by marionettes and street performers, a respectful split of Persian and Arabian spaces—including jewel gardens and shaded water features—and the Valencia Grand Prix, a Cars 2 racing district with family-speed thrills and pit-lane eats. A low-rise Stella Marina hotel sits right on the edge with a private gate and boat access, making arrival feel like part of the story.Ready to stroll the bay, ride a Vespa past café tables, and chase a pod racer across the dunes? Press play, share with a friend who loves park design, and tell us which land you'd visit first. If this tour sparks ideas, leave a review, subscribe for more creative builds, and send us your wish for the next land we should design.

Aiming True, Living FullyGracen Fletcher grew up under Indiana skies, where the wind danced across hayfields and horses ran free. A farm girl through and through, she learned to saddle up almost as early as she could walk. Her days were filled with muck boots, fiddle strings, and the steady hum of country life. Whether she was training one of her family's Arabian horses, casting a fishing line at the pond, or hitting bullseyes with her bow, Gracen lived wide awake to the world around her.Her brother got into archery first, and the rest of the family followed. At first, Gracen just tagged along. But the more she shot, the more she found herself hooked. The quiet focus, the feel of the release, the rhythm — archery used the same discipline she'd learned from horseback riding. And just like that, she discovered a lasting passion.By the time she turned 10, Gracen was competing. At 17, she made history in Las Vegas, shooting a perfect 900 — something only a handful of women had ever done. The spotlight turned to her quickly, and, as a result, the Olympic door stood wide open. But another door opened, too.Gracen had long dreamed of earning a degree from Cedarville University, a school with a commitment to faith that matched her own. She thought she'd have to choose: train for the Olympics or attend college. But Cedarville's new fully online accounting program made it possible to do both. Now, from her family's farm in Boonville, she balances Olympic-level training with online studies. Her days start early with chapel, continue with coursework, and end with hours of practice in the barn or the field. It's a full life, but one anchored in purpose.Gracen doesn't see archery as her identity — it's a gift. She competes with grit, but her aim stays fixed on something higher. Through every arrow and every assignment, she's living to honor God, knowing He's the one who gave her these passions to begin with. She recently shared more of her journey on the Cedarville Stories podcast, reflecting on how faith, family, and focus have shaped her both on the range and in the classroom.Gracen's story is a reminder: Sometimes you don't have to pick one dream over another — sometimes, with faith and the right fit, you can live both.https://share.transistor.fm/s/49abb142https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b2dfe3GFjPo

Send us a textForget the tinsel and crowns—let's meet the Magi where history lives. We sit down with Fr. Dwight Longenecker, author of The Mystery of the Magi, to rethink the famous journey to Bethlehem through the lenses of archaeology, geopolitics, and Scripture. Instead of mystical monarchs following a neon star, we explore a compelling alternative: Nabataean court advisors—astrologers and diplomats—from Petra, navigating trade routes, Roman power, and Herod's volatile court. We dig into why Matthew includes the Magi while Luke doesn't, and how reading the Bible with historical context can strip away later legends without losing wonder. Fr. Longenecker maps the power players of the era—Rome, Herod the Great, and the Nabataeans—and explains how Aretas IV's shaky throne and dependence on Roman goodwill could have sparked a diplomatic mission to Judea. The gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh move from pure symbolism to economic fingerprints of Arabian trade, pointing to a real origin and a recognizable protocol of royal homage. And the star? We weigh leading theories: supernatural sign, astrological reading, or rare astronomical event. Rather than a celestial spotlight dragging caravans across dunes, Matthew suggests discerning signs that prompt a journey to Jerusalem and then to Bethlehem. Along the way, we call out Gnostic embellishments—like the “burning baby in the sky”—and return to a leaner, stronger account where faith and reason meet. If you care about biblical history, Epiphany, or how ancient trade networks intersected with theology, this conversation brings the Nativity's most enigmatic visitors into crisp focus. If the reframe sparks your curiosity, follow the show, share this episode with a friend who loves history, and leave a review with your take on who the Magi really were.

"The original soundtrack I used from Cities & Memory's archive was recorded on a street in Cairo at sunset, outside the Marriott Hotel and Omar Khayyam casino, on Saray El Gezira Street. The famous Gezirah Palace was completed in 1869 by Khedive Ismail, to host dignitaries for the opening of the Suez Canal that year. When I first listened to this piece I heard, among the sounds of car horns and the evening prayer call, the sound of footsteps running down the street and away, and a sharp gasp of breath. The whipping wind in the microphone sounded like a jinn or an Afreet, plural Afareet. It reminded me of my favourite song El Shawarea Hawadeet (the streets are tales) by El Masreyeen from 1977. Lonely streets echoing with memories, stories and Afareet.  "In the final piece, you can hear layers of sounds from different eras. The song Al Bulbul Gani (the nightingale came to me) recorded in Cairo in 1906, written by Abd al-hayy Hilmi; the sounds of drumming used in the Cairo Zar women's ritual by the group Mazaher – a ritual to try to find accommodation with demons that have taken over a woman's body. You can hear too, strange sounds of a furious female jinn screaming, shouting and banging at each outrageous sentence from British prime minister Anthony Eden, in his public address in 1956 during the Suez Crisis, where he attempts to justify Britain's bombing of Egypt. Oil is the justification for everything.  "As this Cairo tale unfolds, the Arabian riff, or “Melodia Arabe”, sinuously weaves between the Zar drumming. Composed in the 1800's, the Arabian riff, also known as The Streets of Cairo, was a little Orientalist ditty that supposedly evoked the exotic Arab. The quote I am reading is from the 1899 gothic novel, Pharos The Egyptian, by Guy Boothby. It was one of many gothic horror stories of revenge by an angry Egyptian mummy or demon, a fear that haunted the Victorians during this era." featured Wiki of the Day

fWotD Episode 3129: Appaloosa Welcome to featured Wiki of the Day, your daily dose of knowledge from Wikipedia's finest articles. The featured article for Friday, 28 November 2025, is Appaloosa. The Appaloosa is an American horse breed best known for its colorful spotted coat pattern. There is a wide range of body types within the breed, stemming from the influence of multiple breeds of horses throughout its history. Each horse's color pattern is genetically the result of various spotting patterns overlaid on top of one of several recognized base coat colors. The color pattern of the Appaloosa is of interest to those who study equine coat color genetics, as it and several other physical characteristics are linked to the leopard complex mutation (LP). Appaloosas are prone to develop equine recurrent uveitis and congenital stationary night blindness; the latter has been linked to the leopard complex.Artwork depicting prehistoric horses with leopard spotting exists in prehistoric cave paintings in Europe. Images of domesticated horses with leopard spotting patterns appeared in artwork from Ancient Greece and Han dynasty China through the early modern period. In North America, the Nez Perce people of what today is the United States Pacific Northwest developed the original American spotted breed. Settlers once referred to these spotted horses as the "Palouse horse", possibly after the Palouse River, which ran through the heart of Nez Perce country. Gradually, the name evolved into Appaloosa. The Nez Perce lost most of their horses after the Nez Perce War in 1877, and the breed fell into decline for several decades. A small number of dedicated breeders preserved the Appaloosa as a distinct breed until the Appaloosa Horse Club (ApHC) was formed as the breed registry in 1938. The modern breed maintains bloodlines tracing to the foundation bloodstock of the registry; its partially open stud book allows the addition of some Thoroughbred, American Quarter Horse and Arabian blood.Today, the Appaloosa is one of the most popular breeds in the United States; it was named the state horse of Idaho in 1975. It is best known as a stock horse used in a number of western riding disciplines, but is also a versatile breed with representatives seen in many other types of equestrian activity. Appaloosas have been used in many movies; an Appaloosa is a mascot for the Florida State Seminoles. Appaloosa bloodlines have influenced other horse breeds, including the Pony of the Americas, the Nez Perce Horse, and several gaited horse breeds. This recording reflects the Wikipedia text as of 01:02 UTC on Friday, 28 November 2025.For the full current version of the article, see Appaloosa on Wikipedia. This podcast uses content from Wikipedia under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License.Visit our archives at wikioftheday.com and subscribe to stay updated on new episodes.Follow us on Mastodon at @wikioftheday@masto.ai.Also check out Curmudgeon's Corner, a current events podcast.Until next time, I'm neural Danielle.

After an epic 30 odd hours of travel, the boys arrived in a whole new world of landscape, culture and wildlife to have an opportunity to catch the rarest Permit in the world, Trachinotus Africanus. Hosted by the legendary Clare Carter (owner of Arabian Sport Fishing) and head guide Wesley Rapson, Chris and Steve were treated to a truly "excellent adventure". On this show, we discuss the travels, Omani culture and the great setup that Arabian Sport Fishing offer... We also talk about a new and emerging way to fish for Africanus Permit that Wes and Clare from ASF are pioneering. There is very little information about this way of fishing for them, so we hope enjoy the show and perhaps get a new way of looking at one of the coveted "Big 4" permit species. Hear us talk about crazy number of Permit and how targeting and feeding tailing fish with crustacean patterns is not only the latest way to fish for them, but the numbers suggest its a way way more effective way to fish for them. Matthew 14:1

BIBLE IN TEN

Tuesday, 4 November 2025   At that time Herod the tetrarch heard the report about Jesus Matthew 14:1   “In that time, Herod the tetrarch, he heard the ‘Jesus hearing'” (CG).   In the previous verse, Chapter 13 ended with words concerning Jesus' not doing many miracles in Nazareth due to their faithlessness. Chapter 14 now begins with, “In that time, Herod the tetrarch.”   A new word is seen, tetrarchés. It signifies the ruler of the one-fourth part of a country or region. In other words, he is not a ruler of a country with three other rulers. Instead, his rule covers one-fourth of the area of a county.   Thayer's Lexicon notes that “the word lost its strict etymological force, and came to denote ‘the governor of a third part or half of a country, or even the ruler of an entire country or district provided it were of comparatively narrow limits; a petty prince.'”   Of this particular Herod, Charles Ellicott provides the following description –   “The son of Herod the Great by Malthace. Under his father's will he succeeded to the government of Galilee and Peræa, with the title of Tetrarch, and as ruler of a fourth part of the Roman province of Syria. His first wife was a daughter of Aretas, an Arabian king or chief, named in 2Corinthians 11:32 as king of the Damascenes. Herodias, the wife of his half-brother Philip (not the Tetrarch of Trachonitis, Luke 3:1, but son of Herod the Great by Mariamne, and though wealthy, holding no official position as a ruler), was daughter of Aristobulus, the son whom Herod put to death, and was therefore niece to both her husbands. Prompted partly by passion, partly by ambition, she left Philip, and became the wife of Antipas (Jos. Ant. xviii. 5, §4). The marriage, at once adulterous and by the Mosaic law doubly incestuous, shocked the conscience of all the stricter Jews. It involved Antipas in a war with the father of the wife whom he had divorced and dismissed, and it was probably in connection with this war that we read of soldiers on actual duty as coming under the teaching of the Baptist in Luke 3:14. The prophetic spirit of the Baptist, the very spirit of Elijah in his dealings with Ahab and Jezebel, made him the spokesman of the general feeling, and so brought him within the range of the vindictive bitterness of the guilty queen.”   Concerning this Herod, Matthew records, “he heard the ‘Jesus hearing.'” In other words, the news (it is a noun signifying “a hearing”) of Jesus was circulating everywhere. He heard of this exciting news, and it set the stage for what lies ahead. Today, such a hearing might be precipitated by a statement like, “Have you heard the news about the guy from Nazareth, Jesus? He is incredible!”   Such a statement is the hearing. Herod heard it and will react to it.   Life application: Some of the translations of this verse say, the fame of Jesus, the news of Jesus, the report of Jesus, the reports of Jesus, heard about Jesus, the hearing of Jesus, concerning Jesus, etc. Various smaller changes from some of these exist.   Don't think that because a translation doesn't exactly match the original that there is an error. The intent is essentially the same. Some versions give a thought-for-thought rendering. Some attempt to give a closer rendering of each word, but amend it to sound more common to the hearing of the audience.   A literal, or close to literal, translation can be extremely unpleasant to listen to and tiring to the mind to read. Trying to make sense of the structure of the original language while also trying to understand the intent in a reasonable way is much more difficult with a direct rendering of each word.   Also, there is the consideration that different people will come up with different words to describe the same original word. Therefore, at times, there are going to be a seemingly infinite number of differences in translations, but they all will carry the same message to some extent.   We should never tolerate purposeful manipulation of the text, something that scholars will search for and highlight. Such manipulations have occurred in the New World Translation of the Jehovah's Witnesses as well as some Hebrew Roots Movement translations.   In order to meet their perverse agenda, such manipulations are underhandedly introduced. If you are looking for a new translation to read, be sure to check up on whatever you are leaning towards buying, just in case someone has identified such things.   But be sure to check the source you are reading as well. Some commentaries on Bible translations are biased towards one translation, the KJV, for example. Therefore, they will find all other versions damnable. That is not a healthy way of looking at such things either.   In the end, just keep reading the word. Keep thinking about what God has done in the giving of Jesus. Let the word of God dwell in you richly. It will bring delight to your heart, joy to your day, and contentment to your soul as you consider the eternal blessings that lie ahead for the redeemed of the Lord.   Lord God, thank You for allowing us to enter into the study of another chapter of the book of Matthew. We anticipate a great adventure as we analyze it day by day. Give us the clarity of mind that is needed to properly understand what is being conveyed. Amen.

Bryan Cranston read that famous poem in the final episode of “Breaking Bad.” The title of the episode was “Ozymandias,” and TV Guide picked it as “the best television episode of the 21st century.” It was also the only episode of a TV show ever to achieve a perfect 10-out-of-10 rating on IMDb with over 200,000 votes, putting it at the number one spot for the most highly rated television episode ever:I met a traveller from an antique land,Who said—“Two vast and trunkless legs of stoneStand in the desert. . . . Near them, on the sand,Half sunk a shattered visage lies, whose frown,And wrinkled lip, and sneer of cold command,Tell that its sculptor well those passions readWhich yet survive, stamped on these lifeless things,The hand that mocked them, and the heart that fed;And on the pedestal, these words appear:“My name is Ozymandias, King of Kings;Look on my Works, ye Mighty, and despair!”Nothing beside remains. Round the decayOf that colossal Wreck, boundless and bareThe lone and level sands stretch far away. When I returned home from the auction, I spent a delightful 90 minutes tracking down all the bits and pieces of how that poem came to exist. It was in 1817 that Percy Bysshe Shelley and his poet friend, Horace Smith read the news that the carved head of Egyptian Pharaoh Ramesses II had been removed from its tomb at Thebes by an Italian adventurer and that it would soon be traveling to Britain.Shelly suggested to Smith that each of them should write a poem about it and title each of their poems “Ozymandias,” the Greek name for Egyptian pharaoh Ramesses II.Look at the poem as it appeared in newspaper on that day in 1818, and you will see that Percy Bysshe Shelley signed it, “Glirastes.” He did it as an inside joke intended only for his wife, Mary Shelley, who, incidentally, published her famous novel “Frankenstein” that same year.Mary often signed her letters to Percy as “your affectionate dormouse.” So Percy combined “Gliridae” (Latin for dormouse) with “Erastes” (Greek for lover) to create “Glirastes,” (meaning “lover of dormice.”)So now you know how Google's second-most-often-searched poem came to be published without anyone in London suspecting that it had been written on a bet with a friend by one of the most famous poets on earth who chose to sign it with a pseudonym as an inside joke to his wife.Did you know that I became an ad writer only because it was impossible to support myself as a poet? Now that you know that, you will not be surprised that Indy Beagle has collected Google's Top 20 Poems for you to read in the rabbit hole. Indy also found the Horace Smith version of Ozymandias, and added it at the end of the Google's Top 20 list.To enter the rabbit hole, all you have to do is click the image that appears at the top of today's Monday Morning Memo. You'll find this memo archived as “Looking Though Antique Doors,” the Monday Morning Memo for October 20th, 2025.This is the Google Top 20 List:“The Road Not...

Long before modern horror imagined zombies or demons, ancient Arabic folklore spoke of the Ghoul (غول) — a terrifying shape-shifting creature haunting deserts, ruins, and graveyards. In this video, we uncover the true origins of the Ghoul: its roots in pre-Islamic Arabian mythology, its transformation through Islamic tradition, and its lasting influence on global horror culture.Find me and my music here:https://linktr.ee/filipholmSupport Let's Talk Religion on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/letstalkreligion Or through a one-time donation: https://paypal.me/talkreligiondonateSources/Recommended Reading:Al-Rawi, Ahmed (2009). 100 Years Before Ford v. Ferrari, a Horse Breeder Revolutionized Thoroughbred Racing Through a Similar Obsession With Progress

Horse racing was the most popular sport in early America, drawing massive crowds and fueling a cultural obsession with horses’ speed and pedigree. In the early 1800s, every town in America with a few thousand people had a horse racing track, with major cities drawing crowds of up to 50,000. In the midst of this was Alexander Keene Richards (1827–1881), one of the nineteenth century’s most significant Thoroughbred importers and breeders. Richards was like automotive designer Carroll Shelby, Matt Damon’s character in Ford v. Ferrari, who revolutionized the sport by blending innovation with a relentless drive to perfect the breeding and training of Thoroughbreds. Today’s guest is Gary Odell, author of Reinventing the American Thoroughbred: The Arabian Adventures of Alexander Keene Richards. We explore how Richards traveled thousands of miles on expeditions into the heart of the Syrian desert to obtain Arabian stock of the purest blood. He became the first American to venture into the desert to bargain directly with nomadic tribesmen for their horses. The Civil War interrupted Richards’s equine breeding experiment. After the war, he was bankrupt and spent the rest of his life attempting to rebuild his Thoroughbred facility. But Richards’ willingness to look globally for solutions—traveling to the Middle East for superior bloodlines—parallels today’s international talent scouting and cross-cultural exchanges in sports, fostering a legacy of globalized athletic improvement that shapes how American sports, from horse racing to other disciplines, prioritize scientific innovation and cultural adaptability.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
