This week, Kelsie sat down with The First Ladies Man, Andrew Och, to talk about the importance of the women who served in what he says, "is one of the most powerful and influential unelected and unpaid women in the world. There is no formal training, no job description or specific classes to prepare a woman for this role. She cannot major in “First Lady” at any university. Each woman has both the ability and the freedom to make the role her own and craft it as she sees fit. Technically, because they are unelected and unpaid, they do not have to do anything. However, they take on the position like it was their job. Keep in mind, none of this happened over night." We discuss Martha Washington-- who really crafted the role, and then some of the lesser known first ladies like Frances Cleveland, Lucretia Garfield, and Jane Pierce. Behind every great man is an even greater woman... or in this case... lady. If George Washington had never met and married Martha Dandridge Custis, this book would be called something quite different.
