El pasado viernes el departamento de Justicia liberó el segundo y definitivo lote de documentos relacionados con el caso de Jeffrey Epstein. El primero de ellos vio la luz en diciembre y este era muy esperado. En total se han liberado más de tres millones de páginas en las que también hay miles de vídeos y fotografías. Esto ofrece una perspectiva mucho más detallada de la vida de Epstein y de las privilegiadas relaciones que cultivó en vida. Eso sí, como sucedió hace algo más de un mes, esta nueva documentación también está plagada de tachaduras que el Gobierno justifica para proteger el anonimato de las víctimas. El fiscal general adjunto, Todd Blanche, ha defendido la integridad de todo el proceso. En una rueda de prensa que concedió nada más hacerse públicos los documentos aseguró que se había cumplido estrictamente con la ley y que no se estaba protegiendo a nadie, tampoco al presidente. Pero, como era de esperar, las críticas no han tardado en arreciar. Unos creen que las ediciones sobre los textos y las imágenes son demasiado agresivas y ocultan importante material que debería ser público. Otros denuncian que se ha revelado indebidamente la identidad de al menos 43 víctimas. El abogado de estas últimas, Brad Edwards, ha señalado que el departamento de Justicia conocía estos nombres de antemano, lo que podría acarrear consecuencias negativas para quienes deseaban mantener su anonimato. Entre los nombres que han vuelto al primer plano destaca el de Donald Trump. Los archivos contienen miles de menciones al actual presidente, algo que tampoco es extraño ya que es del conocimiento público que Epstein y Trump fueron amigos en los años 90. Aunque Trump insiste en que cortó toda la relación con Epstein antes de su primer arresto, la publicación de correos de Melania Trump elogiando a Ghislaine Maxwell y registros de vuelos antiguos mantienen la mirada fija sobre el inquilino de la Casa Blanca. Today's Headlines: Democrats and the White House cut a last-minute deal to stop a government shutdown, temporarily boosting ICE funding while they argue over whether the agency should at least identify itself. The deal keeps most of the government running through September. ICE says it's “drawing down” operations in Minnesota, but the damage is already done. Lawmakers visited a Texas detention facility where 5-year-old Liam Ramos is being held after being detained in Minnesota. His father says Liam is sick, withdrawn, and lethargic. New reporting shows just how much surveillance power ICE actually has, from facial recognition and license plate readers to phone location data, drones, and phone-hacking tools. On top of that, ICE is asking ad-tech and data brokers for access to location data.  TikTok users say anti-ICE videos are mysteriously failing to upload or disappearing after the platform's ownership change. TikTok says it's a glitch. Sure. Meanwhile, Trump's acting cybersecurity chief reportedly uploaded sensitive government documents to a public version of ChatGPT, which is now being investigated by DHS. States are getting ready for possible ICE activity. New Jersey's new governor announced plans for a public database where people can upload videos of ICE encounters, plus expanded “know your rights” efforts. Signed by 60 Minnesota CEOs, co-signed in spirit by the Business Roundtable (though not like, officially), they managed to write a whole 199 words about the execution of a VA nurse whose crime was filming the Gestapo in actionTarget's incoming CEO (obviously not the CURRENT CEO Brian Cornell, he's busy polishing his mahogany chair for board meetings where he will be Executive Chair, making as much as a CEO with none of the responsibilities) also addressed the unlawful and unwarranted arrests of Target employees in Minneapolis by thugs - oh, wait, no he didn't - he said, “The violence and loss of life in our community is incredibly painful.” - IT WAS YOUR EMPLOYEES IN THE CROSSHAIRS, SCHMUCK. Target employees are currently skipping work in Minnesota, but solid leadership.Boards of directorsOur analysis of the boards of the Minnesota 60 showed that nearly half of them sit on each other's boards. Basically, you have a massive groupcoward problem - about 25 of the CEOs sit on some other CEOs board or overlap in some way, and the lawyers that carefully crafted the letter absolutely had to have it run through every other board and company lawyer, a task made easier when half of you are on the board with each other. Jeff Bezos's Amazon MGM Studios is due to release its feature-length documentary about Melania Trump, directed by Brett Ratner, a formerly exiled film-maker who was accused of sexual misconduct by multiple women. The documentary was screened at a promotional event inside the White House, attended by what the Hollywood Reporter describes as ‘70 assorted VIPs', including Amazon's Andy Jassy, Apple's Tim Cook and the former boxer Mike Tyson. Bezos bought the rights to the film for $40m (£30m) and spent a further $35m on a global marketing push – but so far, ticket sales are reportedly ‘soft' as it prepares to screen in more than 100 UK cinemas.
