The first BWU podcast of 2024 is here and features games writer, Andy Hobday returning alongside first-time guest, sculptor, Paul Hicks! Andy and Paul have been long time collaborators on miniatures products and they're here to talk about their upcoming line of fantasy miniatures alongside to be utilized with Andy's Baron's War rules set. I've been a long-time supporter of The Baron's War (and their other endeavours) so I was delighted to speak with them about what they have planned for this year. Paul talked about his journey as as traditional medium sculptor and what went into the visual inspirations of their upcoming fantasy figures while Andy discussed world building, rules writing, and their plans for Kickstarter. We also discussed their collaboration with iconic painter, Peter Dennis, and his work as a concept artist on these upcoming models. In this episode Kieran and Ian are joined by John Wigley, one of we believe the most brilliant of fantasy artists. We talk about his time at GW working on games such as Mordheim, all the way to the new game Coven that he is working on with Andy Hobday, from previous episode talking about Footsore Miniatures. Once we got started talking it was hard to stop, hope you enjoy. If you do please consider following the podcast for more of these interviews and hobby chats. You can find us on Facebook, and hopefully on whichever podcast application you prefer.
This episode I speak to Mr Paul Hicks an outstanding sculptor of miniatures. We have a general chat about him and what he has been up to since we last spoke on episode 90, and also both the previous and upcoming Baron’s War kickstarter campaigns he is working on with Andy Hobday of Footsore Miniatures. I always enjoy talking to Paul, traditional sculpting seems to be going by the wayside in favor of Z brush and electronic sculpting but I for one would hate the art and the discipline to die out, it was a shame Salute was cancelled this year as Paul was going to be there with PATM doing a number of sculpt along classes, next year we hope it will become a reality. Episode 6 of the Brush Wielders Union podcast! Each month, BWU General President, Simon Berman, interviews a Union member or other minis wargaming luminary. This month my friend Andy Hobday, co-owner of Footsore Miniatures joined me all the way from Nottingham, England to talk about his imminent project, The Barons' War, coming to Kickstarter, September 15th. Andy has become a real force of nature in skirmish gaming over the past few years and was kind enough to talk about his new line of beautiful 13th century English and French knights and the turbulent history of the Barons' War. Andy also shared his thoughts on game design in his work on Test of Honour, Mortal Gods, Gangs of Rome, and even lets slip a few things coming from Footsore Miniatures in the near future, including a new Dark Ages ruleset and the highly anticipated Mythic supplement for Mortal Gods, full of Ray Harryhausen inspired Greco-Roman monsters! In this episode Andy Hobday answers ten questions that were posted in our Facebook groups pertaining to Mortal Gods.
Today I was asked an interesting question by my good friend Andy Hobday... "Jamie, I'm going to a conference this week and I want to give away something awesome and valuable to get people interested in joining my email list. What's the best way for me to capture their email addresses and follow-up with them?" This question came at a good time as I've just experimented with an awesome method of attracting customers by giving away something of value while also growing a facebook group at the same time. Rather than just straight up answer Andy's question, I thought I'd go and record this podcast episode to give you guys my insights from experimenting with this challenge myself.
