Hey there!I sit and chat with a wide ranging set of individuals from both inside and on the outside of the Tabletop/RPG/Boardgame industry about their experience, insight, & motivations. Put on a show whilst you are painting and hear the stories behind your fellow geekers and the people that created…

One of the best aspects of this podcast is the host, Dan's, interviewing style. He asks all the questions that listeners would want to ask the guests, creating a natural flow and leading the conversation in interesting directions. Dan's relaxed and mature approach allows him to yield the stage to his guests while riffing off their responses, making for engaging dialogues. In this episode I speak to Ryan the author of the miniature fantasy skirmish game Anthems of War! I need to apologise to Ryan as I recorded this episode with him in March 1875…..or what it seems like….a long time ago!!! Sorry Ryan, its no reflection on you or the quality of your ruleset. We hope you enjoy the show, its great to be back with you again! Discord group invite: https://discord.gg/eHYTf4Z7t4
In this episode, I speak to Robert Salters who writes mini-agnostic rule sets. You hear about them in the show, but the one you may know of most is Battlespace, an ultra-modern solo/co-op rule set with some interesting mechanics, which you will hear about in the chat. It was fun to talk to Robert, and I thank him on our behalf for taking the time to chat.
In this episode, I speak to Dave Taylor the Publisher extraordinaire. Dave finds miniature painters who are interesting and who he feels are deserving of a spotlight in which to express their ethos and skill. These books are called The Art Of and you can do a bit of a search for them if you want and see if they tickle your fancy. I think Dave is an interesting guy and it is an interesting concept so check it out if you want. Check out ep 177 for a little more insight into Dave and his history, we dont talk about it in this show, so maybe refresh by listening to that before you slide the whip off the underpants of this episode.
Yo, Just a bit of hobby chat. A hobby shart of a convo fer'yer.
In this episode, Peter, Jon, and Erika discuss details of what to expect at the PatM stand at 2023's Salute show, to be held at London's ExCel Centre. Get your tickets here: https://www.seetickets.com/tour/salute-50
In this episode I speak once again to Travis from the Tabletop CP YouTube channel. Travis is a friend of the show and we spoke in Ep 160 about Travis' love for Chain of Command and also about the early years of Tabletop CP, so you can listen to that first if you would like. In the episode we chat about Bond, hobbying, his love of painting horses, and general health & diet, plus also plans for Tabletop CP. I enjoyed my time talking to Travis and appreciated him coming back onto the show!
In this episode I speak Mr Casey Madden, a hobby nerd just like you and me. We shoot the breeze about being an average nerd, about completion, and about items we use. Always fun to chat to a fellow nerd and it was a blessing to speak to such a stand up fellow such as Casey.
In this episode I speak to Mr Scott Radom, a long serving Paint All The Minis page member, awesome painter, and positive contributor. We talk about his roots in Canada, his early playing & tournament experience, his move into trying to paint his minis at a higher level and most, most, importantly his profile picture. It was a pleasure talking to Scott and getting to know someone you have e-known for such a long time but never had a super long actual conversation with. Its a bit weird at times in the modern world isnt it. You can end up with friends who you never never physically seen, with names like Swampwombat34 or whatever. So it was nice to talk to Scott for a full episode and pad out more of the fuzzy image I had of him. I hope you guys are all ok and doing well. Dont forget to reach out and message if you feel the need, its always nice to connect with you all. If you want to have a sniff around our Discord server then just email paintalltheminis@gmail.com and you can come and participate in our weekly quiz, weekly online league, monthly painting activity and loads more. Its the full package of caring for our fellow nerds.
In this episode I speak once more to the awesome Dave Baker of Trenchworx. Trenchworx work out of Utah in the US and A and help companies create and produce minis for their games along with doing an awesome range of their own. If you want to hear more about history and initial steps from trenchworx then go back to Ep 120 and you can hear from Dave when we met for round one. In this episode we talk about their new venture into releasing STL files for 3d printing and also 3d printing in general. 3d printing is a new thing for me that I very recently started to discover. I will be doing some episodes over the next weeks and months talking to people in this area as it is an area that has been growing and developing over recent history and its pretty cool.
Hey, In this episode a joint venture with Matthew from Bedroom Battlefields ( https://bedroombattlefields.com/about/) we chat about common reasons why we cant play and some things we can all do to play as we see fit.
We talk about our feelings and observations about Kickstarter, we recorded this on our PATM discord server (email paintalltheminis@gmail.com if you want in to this) and my job in the chat was to voice my own ideas on KS but also to play devils advocate at times and tease out Zach's ideas and views. It was an interesting conversation and one I feel we all need to have with ourselves if we havent already as personal control and knowing yourself is critical if you are going to make more decisions that you believe to be correct than otherwise. Knowing what you like/dont what makes you feel good/doesnt is imperative so that we aren't used as a tool by others for their own intended aims. We tried to make the chat balanced, positive, and insightful, giving us both, and possibly yourself food for thought about your own antics and actions, but that is up to you isnt it. It doesnt matter what I say and do, that doesnt affect you, it all comes down to you, and if you are happy then do that, if you aren't then try something else. I will leave it there as I dont want to tread on the episodes toes, as mentioned already if you want to talk about more stuff like this then grab your space hopper and bounce on over to the PATM discord as I always value external input when figuring out my own direction on things.
In this episode I speak to Kelly who talks to use about DnD, about character creation, evolution, and representation on the tabletop. This is another show I recorded ages ago, sorry to Kelly for how long it took to come out, it bears no reflection on my enjoyment of the conversation.
Hello and welcome to episode 210 of the paint all the minis paint ramble podcast. The show where we strip everything back and just have a relaxed chat with someone who's as into the hobby as you are, In this episode I speak to Nick Komarev a normal hobby man just like you and me. We talk about his hobby journey and his love of Star Wars Armada. I'm releasing this now as he just posted about his vasectomy on our discord, so I thought he can listen to this whilst his nads get better. Put some ice on them Nick and all will be well.
I talk with Jon Harrington about planning and prepping for the Paint All The Minis stand at Salute 2021, how the pandemic forced us to create PATMOCON, and our general level of excitement for exhibiting at a convention in person.
In this episode I speak to Andy, aka the beard, aka The Beardclipper of the beard clipper YouTube channel. Its a YouTube channel that genuinely reflects one man's journey into and through this amazing hobby. The best chats I have are always with people of genuine care and passion and Andy is certainly one. The intro is brief as I wont lie, this episode has been sitting in the podbank for aeons and its about time it has its 10 minutes in the sun, I must apologies profusely to Andy for not releasing sooner, it is no reflection of my thoughts on his episode, I just stepped away at the time it was due to be released. I hope you enjoy!
Heyyyyy, It's been too long, you bunch of Mother'lickers!! Matt hit me up to have a chat on his show about our hobby time, how we find it, when should we hobby, and how much. Thanks to Matt for the invite plus also suggesting we could put it up on our regular stream too. You can find his podcast here: https://bedroombattlefields.com/tmhpodcast/seasonal-hobbying-passion/ If you want so save yourself some time then: Find the time as you can, make yourself do it, unless that harms you, in which case dont do it, but dont then moan! haha, but ultimately just do what you want. Oh, I also have a bit of a vent on content production, whilst also being incredibly respectful of how hard it is to create content and also who am I to poo poo it! Enjoy, hope to be back chatting more in the future, I miss you all, but not you...you I dont miss. Dan.xxx
In this episode, I talk to Michael from Oathsworn Minis about Burrows & Badgers, Sensible shoes, and some old dwarves and ponies. We also discuss the July PaTM themed painting challenge and announce a winner! Keep Paintin'!
In this slight departure from the normal programming, Peter talks to Eric and Chris from Polyglot Studios about their current epic Kickstarter 'miniatures' project, Cthulhu Rises. Summon the beasts from the deep and get some insight into launching a project like this...
In this episode I speak with Tom Greenway of Goblin King games about his upcoming Kickstarter campaign to expand Moonstone. Lucky, then, that it’s been Moonstone May all month on the Paint all the Minis Facebook group! Come and see what all the fuss is about at facebook.com/paintalltheminis
In this episode I speak to Foust the creator of VFI a company that works with games creators and publishers to make Asia and other places around the world more accessible for their games. In kickstarters especially it is sometimes a drag to get the games you want because of shipping costs, customs paperwork, and taxes. Foust is working to alleviate a lot of these issues and allow more people to play more games for less money, a modern day super hero!!! We have the usual chat about hobby and background along with insight into what he does, why, and how. It was a pleasure speaking to him and getting to know him, just today infact I received a new unmatched expansion and some Stormcrow Dervishes for A Song of Ice and Fire, thanks! I hope you enjoy the show.
In this episode I speak to Brian of the Weird World War II YouTube channel. Brian is a big fan of what he refers to as ‘Free Range Gaming’, which is in essence making the game fit you instead of you fitting to the game. It is a refreshing concept and his whole demeanour is one of positivity and experimentation. If you havent checked out Weird World War II as a YouTube channel then do so if you listen to Brian and appreciate his ethos. We have the usual ramble around the hobby and it was a fun chat, we both hope you enjoy.
I pressed record on our discord server and you can listen to what comes out. Raw and unedited!

In this episode I speak to Zachary Quacks (not his real name) about all of the reasons why he loves the boardgames Shadows of Brimstone. I always love a why I love podcast and this one is no different. Dont feel there is any need to over egg the pudding soooo….let hear what he has to say!
In this episode I speak to Mike Hutchinson the author of the immensely popular Gaslands vehicular combat racing game and also, release over the last week, A Billion Suns. I wont talk too much about it here, as we do this in the show. But if it sounds interesting to you then great, if not then, hey no drama, its just fun talking to Mike about stuff and things. I must take some time to thank Mike for appearing on the show once more, it was a fun chat.
S'up, Here's where I am at with the stuff and the things....
Hey, And now for something completely different.... Peter brings you a little creative ep 200. See you in Feb!
In this episode I speak to Paul Beccarelli aka Beccas about his personal hobby journey and a little about his Youtube channel. I’m not sure how I first heard about Paul but at every interaction he has shown himself to be a positive and caring member of the world hobby community. I enjoyed finally getting the opportunity to talk to him about his journey from humble beginnings in Bull Bollock Australia to where he now lives in Perth. In the chat Paul and I discuss a number of topics on our meandering chat, I hope you enjoy it, the chat was recorded with a live audience on our Discord channel and we rolled right over into a live post ramble ramble, so stick around for that if you’d like.
This episode I have a second chat with Pete The Wargamer. Pete is probably my favorite YouTube video content producer, I just love his style, his method, and his content in general. Plus he is a fun and interesting guy to boot. We talked back in ep 31 so if you want a bit more of an introduction to him and his channel then you can go and listen to that first. In this episode we delve a bit deeper into his craft, his evolution, and peripheral bonuses that have come his way, plus also a chin wag about a great many other things. As ever I am thankful for the opportunity to have spoken to Pete and I hope you enjoy the show.
This episode I speak again to Thibaud de la Touanne of Triton Noir. Triton Noir produce the excellent V Commandos game, the upcoming Assassins Creed: Brotherhood of Venice….AAAAAAANDD the upcoming V Commandos deluxe edition coming in the first half of 2021. I spoke to Thibaud back on episode 128 where we talked about his personal history plus a little of V Commandos and Assassins Creed. This time we catch up with what has changed for him over the last year along with developments in Assassins Creed and finish up with some details about the nw 3d and gameplay elements being added to V Commandos. We also take some time to chat about inspirations and ethos when it comes to games design, I always enjoy those parts of the chats most. So if you are here to listen to juicy details about a new Kickstarter then PATM is probably never for you. Its about the stories and backgrounds of these things. Loads of people would do a much better job than me talking about the campaign. I must thank Thibaud for taking some time to talk to me about himself and his company, it is always a pleasurable experience.
This episode I speak to yet another fellow nerd in the form of Matthew Kozikowski. A while ago Matthew was a founder member of Dark Omen, and a podcast called Forgot to Feat. Matthew and I talk banana bets, clam chowder, nut meggers, along with his hobby journey, his family life, and how he is more and more drawn to both mini agnostic games, and dead games which are no longer supported by their founding companies, such as GW’s Warmaster game. It was a pleasure speaking to Matthew and getting to know him and there are certainly other podcasts to come to you from him, I look forward to them. I hope you enjoy the chat….
This episode I speak to Hubert, a native of Poland and a member of our PATM discord server. I am going to keep it very short and sweet this week as the charm of this episode was simply getting to know him, his opinions, his history, and other peripheral parts of him as a person and how he fits into our hobby. It was great talking to, and getting to know him.
This episode I talk to Forrest Harris about his personal history and story, plus also his miniature company Knuckleduster. Getting to know Forrest was a great experience for me, finding out about him and the reasons behind Knuckleduster along with a little bit about his research process and sculpting ethos. Knuckleduster are probably most renowned for their wild west range of miniatures, their game Gunfighters Ball, and their upcoming board game Gunfight Royale which is coming to Kickstarter in January. I have mentioned it a few times but western games are getting harder to ignore, there are at least 3 rule sets that I want to get in on right now and there are some great terrain sets out there too, maybe in the new year it will be a new project for 2021. Knuckleduster will be top of the list for minis. Thanks to Forrest for coming onto the show and also being a founder member of PATMOCON that we hosted in April 2020. Forrest and Knuckleduster had a virtual booth and one of the highlights for me personally was the guided tour of their operation with a view into their workshop and casting process, something we just wouldn’t usually have a chance to see at all, pretty special. I hope you enjoy the show an it is another great insight into a brilliant personality involved in our hobby.
This episode is one that has been kicking about in the PATM vault for a few months as I have waited for the project to show up on Kickstarter. I chatted with Luke, the creator of Upzone. Upzone is a range of car pop up terrain for tabletop wargaming. I dont know how I saw it, but I did and I was instantly interested in the story and genesis of it. Make sure you check out the link even just to appreciate the idea and invention of it. I really enjoyed getting to know Luke, as mentioned we talked a good while ago and a lot has changed for him, partnering with a publisher was a big step, and as I record the KS campaign is into the 200,000+ dollars bracket. A real success story for a gent who just did something productive during his COVID lockdown time. Awesome. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/everythingepicgames/upzone-the-pop-up-wargaming-and-rpg-terrain-system?ref=discovery&term=upzone
This episode I speak to Scott Pyle, the brains behind 4 color studio. Scott has created a number of games, most of which hang off his Goal System set of rules which share common themes. Super heroes, to Sci Fi, to Fantasy Dungeon Delves, there seems to be something there for everyone. We take time in the show to chew the fat about his ethos, games, and intent. PATM and Scott seem to share the same ethos in terms of the things we do and how we like to interact with the hobby, Scott is very candid about the fact that he enjoys the challenge of creating the rule sets and jus having them go out into the wild to do their own thing. No murky or shadowy marketing techniques which is refreshing. A term ‘the empty can rattles the loudest’ comes into my brain more and more via kickstarter and new games in our hobby and it is refreshing to see the polar opposite here, a classy gent allowing his games to speak for themselves. Having said that, and I mention it in the show, could his games have a stronger audience? More on that in a moment. It was great to talk to Scott I really enjoyed our ramble chat, especially the 80’s references, I am sure I speak for all of us when I thank him for his time. Right! Back to the bigger audience thing. If you are a patron then head over to four-colorstudio.com and check out Scott’s games. If any tickle your fancy then PM me, preferably on discord and I will get the rule set out to you. This way you get a kick back in the form of some rules you want to play, Scott gets a grande caramel macchiato on us also, so its win win. If you aren’t a patron but want to check not only this out but a bunch more other things then meander on over to patreon.com/paintalltheminis and find out all the ways we try to make your hobby deeper, more fun, and to fulfill you a little more one terrible joke and sauce reference at a time.
This episode I speak to David Thompson a second time. I spoke to David about himself and also Sniper Elite, the hidden movement game back in episode 181 and I asked him to come back onto the show and we have a chin wag about the things that he feels make a good game. Its a wide ranging chat from nicknames, to game length, to intent, card mechanics, I even get a couple of sauce references in there too. I have enjoyed the two chats with David thus far, I really seem to click with his ethos and how he decides to create his games. We also talk a little about his new game Dire Alliance. Dire Alliance seems a little like the game the Avengers would make. David is one of 4 designers, the game has 2 game modes, it has card tokens, or you can upgrade to an edition that has plastic minis. Also it seems to have a lot in common with games David has designed previously so I am super excited to see it, plus the addition of minis adds a whole new level of interest. Dire Alliance is a gothic/victorian horror game with vampires, witch hunters etc etc, I am sure you know the trope. But it is a genre I havent painted much of so I am excited to get involved with it. You can check out the link in the description if you feel you may like it. Base core pledge is fiddy bucks, double if you want to add the 70+ plastic minis. Its superb that they offer the sans minis version, I think that is a great shout. Check out Dire Alliance here: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/blacklistgames/dire-alliance-horror?ref=android_project_share Talking of David, we have just started our War Chest league on our discord server, a weekly fun league where we wlll battle it out each week until it is apparent who is alpha nerd, David is also a pretty regular participant on our server and he is pretty cool to hang out with so if you want to talk to these great people who make games we love then come on over, patreon.com/paintalltheminis
This episode I speak once again to Mike Tuñez of Firelock Games. Firelock Games are most renowned for their historical skirmish games set in the 1600-1700’s, thats the age of privateers, pirates, and freebooters to you and me. As this show is live Firelock are in the midst of a new Kickstarter campaign designed to produce a giant section of all their minis in plastic. I am a huge plastic fan, mostly due to the weight, ease of transport, the forgiving nature when you drop it, but also the customization that can occur between models within ranges. I also love the new plastic ships Firelock are beginning to produce. You can grab a 28mm plastic Sloop in this campaign, I have signed up for 3. I cant think of any other plastic minis in this genre on the market right now, or indeed a plastic Sloop of this scale so I am super excited, and not just about that but also because Mike and Firelock are superb people and they deserve every success. As you know, the show isnt a sales pitch, Mike and I discuss beard maintenance, the broad range of products offered by Firelock, how difficult it must have been living in that era, an a whole bunch of other things as they occur. If Firelock’s current campaign does appeal to you or to someone you know then check it out, its a great way to support great people and get yourself some cool hobby/gaming challenges too. https://www.kickstarter.com/discover/advanced?ref=nav_search&term=firelock%20games%20
This episode I speak to a stalwart member of the PATM team and discord server, Mal. Mal is a huge positive presence in our discord community and consistently gives to our group, inspiring and empowering as he goes. We shared an hour and a bit of our time together and talked a lot about people. Our hobby involved, and therefore revolves around people and what they choose to do, not do, and how they conduct themselves. We have a wide ranging chat from RPG’s to Co op games, a sprinkling of competitive games, and a whole bunch of other stuff in-between, there is even some terrible dad jokes in there too. This was recorded directly form our discord server Sunday night paint hang out, and we roll into a live post ramble ramble with the group that were able to listen in live and we have a chat about technological advances we may see in our hobby in the not too distant future, its all pap by the way so dont expect to actually see an of these things. patreon.com/paintalltheminis
This episode I speak to Richard of Folded Space. Folded space create a range of storage and game organization aids for board games, a number of which contain minis. I personally bought their Mansions of Madness insert recently and it has been fantastic. It was cheaper & lighter than other inserts I had seen. This makes shipping cheaper and also. Plus it was pretty logical to put together and because of the material used it doesnt add much to the weight of the box. The only unknown would be long term durability but after a good few plays of the game it all looks secure and sturdy and I am confident it will stand the test of time. Richard moved to Sofia Bulgaria in 1998, he did lots of other things before stating Folded Space and from a personal point of view it was not just interesting learning about his business but also about his journey that has taken him to this point. I have been in Sofia for over 2 months now so was interesting to hear his insight.
This episode I speak to the awesome Dan Warner, a nerd just like us who is also a big presence in the background of PATM. Dan has a set of twins under one years old and se we naturally talk about how your hobby takes a bit of a back seat when being a dad, and also in lots of other settings no doubt, its not limited to parenting. But yeah, we talk about his journey, his ideas around online content and what it should be, plus also his likes/dislikes. It was fun getting to know Dan some more, it is another podcast recorded live on our Discord channel, you could have listened in live, and some people did, plus we also have a live post ramble ramble, so if you enjoy the show and A: want to be on it, B: want to listen in live, C: want to be directly involved in a post ramble ramble then hit up patreon.com/paintalltheminis.
This episode I talk to Ben Galbraith of Blacksite Studio. Blacksite Studio produce pre painted laser cut MDF terrain for a number of tabletop war-game genres, from modern to historical & fantasy. Recently Ben and Connor pushed into model design in a line of sci fi resin minis, and even more recently they decided to put together the whole Jean Luc Package and give us a terrain, minis, rule set experience in the form of Dont Look Back, a horror film inspired cooperative skirmish game. First and foremost it was great talking to Ben, again, I say it a lot but, I found him to be an open, honest, and engaging individual who I felt I could ask literally any question to and he would have given us his take on it. We have a wide ranging chat from Texas BBQ, where the chat opens, to Innovation, moral intent as a company, and the current state of the industry in regards to crowdfunding and its both positive and potentially possibly negative effects. Secondly and finally if you havent heard of or check out Blacksite Studio then I encourage you to do so. Its not for everyone and it isnt a whim purchase, as I mention in the show but if you agree with Ben that you want great terrain to fit into a number of games you have and play, or want to play, then give it your consideration. I bought the Sundered Empire kit way back in April and it fills my Fantasy skirmish needs to a Tee. It gives hefty 2x2 but can easily scale up to 3x3 or 4x4. I love the terrain, the quality, and also…Fantasy skirmish terrain, thats that now, with a little flavor change from different scatter or pieces I pick up in the future I can continue to make it diverse and interesting. You can check out Dont Look Back and other BSS stuff here: https://blacksitestudio.com I hope you enjoy getting to know Ben, as I did, and that you enjoy the show.
This episode I talk once again to Alex Davy, the creator of, amongst lots of other notable things, the Star Wars Legion tabletop battle game, published by Fantasy Flight. I really enjoy both talking to Alex and Star Wars Legion. The word that I use in this show is fresh. Star Wars Legion to me is a fresh look at tabletop battle from what I had seen and played previously. I enjoy its innovations and quirks. Alex is an engaging and interesting person, from his cooking of Ukrainian Borscht, to misplacing game prototypes to, you know, just being a great guy, its always fun to talk to him. I hope you enjoy the show and for me, if someone asked what the show is, I’d make them listen to this one. I’m still unsure about how to define it and what it is but if the show smells of something, its this, if it looks like something, its this, whatever the show is, for me it is this. Thanks to Alex for taking some time out to talk to me and making some noises that I could record. patreon.com/paintalltheminis You can also check out our the you tube channel & the website, you can email paintalltheminis@gmail.com with any Q’s you may have
This episode was the first ever fully live, with live guest and also people listening into the stream live. We spoke during the Paint All The Minis Sunday evening hangout. I chat to Ravis and we go podcast old school and reprise the questions from the original 10 podcasts I recorded way back when. We also go right over to a fully live post ramble ramble with not only Ravis but also some of the people listening live at the time. It was great to get to know Ravis a little more, hear his story, and capture som of the chat that usually goes on on a Sunday anyway but now you can listen too, if you weren’t there, or have forgotten!!! Dont for get if you are a patron you can not only listen in to any more we do, which we will, but even better you have first dibs on being the actual guest! patreon.com/paintalltheminis
This episode I have a hugely enjoyable chat with Mr Brent Spivey. Brent doesnt get anywhere near as much credit as he should. We had a chat to Dewi Clough in ep173 where he tonked the enthusiasm bongos for one of Brent’s games, Mayhem. Dewi’s enthusiasm made me want to reach out to Brent and I am so glad I did, he was such a welcoming and enthusiastic guy. We waffle on about a wide range of things from reality TV, his games, creator royalties, and lots of other thing in between. One of the major points which come up in the show is the amount of mini agnostic rule sets being put out by talented and passionate people. For ten to fifteen bucks you can pick up a rule set, you probably already have enough minis, and get playing. Just think, in your fridge you have a huge packet of ham, and a giant baguette, sometimes you dont need more ham or bread, some times a nice wee mustard or relish is what you need to make your meal different and tasty. Have a look at some of these independent and self produced rule sets, the enthusiasm, passion, and talent on show is amazing. I hope you enjoy the show.
In this episode I speak to Guy who is the editor of the War-games, Soldiers, and Strategy magazine. WSS, as it is often called, is a bi monthly magazine thats focuses on historical tabletop games and how to play them, and not just historical content and settings you can get from other sources. Throughout August WSS run their Great Wargaming Survey where they ask the community what they have been up to over the last year. You can find a link to it here: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/T5H2LVP Its interesting to see how typical you are in the hobby and what others have been up to. It was fun not just talking about this but also finding out more about Guy, his journey, and any interesting stories that pop up along the way.
This episode I get my fan boy hat on and talk to a game designer who I have a great deal of excitement towards, Mr David Thompson. David designed two of the games that I have been setting about with reckless abandon over the last 5 or 6 months, Undaunted Normandy and Undaunted North Africa both WW2 skirmish games with deck management aspects. Although they dont contain minis out the box, conversion projects are easy and the game play is brilliant, in my opinion of course, and so it was great to talk to David about……Not undaunted. Undaunted deserves its own stand alone podcast which will come later but in this show I spoke to him about his personal journey and experience along with his current Kickstarter Campaign for his game Sniper Elite. I wont spoil the show by talking about all the details but in a nutshell it is a WW2 hidden movement espionage game where a sniper is sneaking about trying to evade the patrolling guards. You can find out more about it here: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/rebellionunplugged/sniper-elite-the-board-game It was fun talking to David and it was great to find him to be a really nice guy and a person I’d love to talk more to about his ethos, ideas, and insight. We talk about some of his design influences in the show and he comes across as accomplished and strong willed, an example of this we didnt talk about during the show but a very active decision on his part to include a wide variety of ethnicities on the US forces artwork on Undaunted Normandy, something that didnt necessarily reflect the abstract unit mention in the game but certainly noted the sacrifice from a number of ethnic groups during that conflict. Strong positive decision making there in my opinion and not one to be overlooked. Anyway, I hope you enjoy the show, and if you like the sound of the Sniper Elite game then go check it out, I am a giddy kipper in anticipation of it and cant wait for the cat and mouse experience with my fellow nerds.
This episode I catch up with Joe McCullough and we talk through the reasoning behind and the tweaks involved in Frostgrave 2nd Edition. Frostgrave was one of my first delves into narrative wargaming once I began to branch out from Warhammer 40k. I found the stories that could be created, the time I spent thinking up narrative, and the memories of the games to be a massive benefit to the hobby for me personally, that gave the hobby so much more depth. I really enjoyed using the framework created by Joe to put my own spin on things and I mention during the show that I feel Frostgrave is a vehicle for me to create great experiences. It came at a time when I was looking for this exact sort of experience, I just didnt know it, the only thing I knew was that I didnt really get a good feeling from competitive wargaming, Frostgrave took me by the hand and led me out of the initial antechamber of the hobby to where I am now, and I cant thank it or Joe enough. I always enjoy talking to Joe, we open with his roast dinner strategy and then delve into the nuts and bolts of the new edition which is you are a crafty old veteran of Frostgrave or a new apprentice it should give you an insight into the world, the rules, and the structure, I hope you enjoy the show.
This episode I speak to Rob Saunders about his eclectic hobby and work life. Rob is a jack of many trades working in a board game cafe, being a stand up comedian, member of bands, and also the purveyor of podcast treats in the form of the men with two brains & death nerve podcast (about horror movies). We sit and chat about his personal journey into the hobby and his life decision to chase things he loves. We also talk about our shared love of narrative and story creation on the tabletop, amongst a good few other areas. Rob is someone I find myself talking to on a regular basis just because he is a great guy and has a positive attitude to the things he does, twas a fantastic chat with a really great person, I hope you enjoy it.
In this episode I speak to Charlotte who is not only a big fan of the hobby like you and me, but she also works for Steam Forged Games as part of their PR team. I wanted to talk to her for a number of reasons and in the show we talk about her own hobby background, gender portrayal, and also a little about the world of PR and how she goes about her job on a day to day basis. It was a fun chat and I thank Charlotte for coming onto the show, I hope you enjoy it too.
In this episode I speak to Dave Taylor who has completed more projects in the hobby industry than we’ve had hot dinners! This is a marathon podcast clocking in at over 2 hours and thats simply down to the diverse and interesting journey that Dave has been on during his hobby life time. From discovering the hobby, to working within it, to moving countries because of it Dave has had an amazing ride so far and it was a pleasure to ramble about it for a while. Dave is possibly a peripheral figure for us schmo’s that engage in the hobby from our side but internally he is a big driving force that connects cool people doing interesting things with us as the hobby nerds. I always find it tough personally when I like something and want to mention it as the term ‘influencer’ or whatever has an association that I want to avoid like COVID-19 but I feel Dave does a great job of making us aware of things without slapping us round the chops with it. It was fun talking to Dave and he is someone I have the utmost regard and respect for because of he is demeanour, openness, and the intent of his operation. I hope you enjoy the show.
In this episode I speak to Colin of Battle Systems. Battle Systems are a company who produce high quality card terrain along with the brilliant Core Space 28mm sci fi skirmish game. Core space is a wham bam, one game in a can game with all you need including all of the high quality card terrain AND a neoprene mat too. Its a really good game in my opinion and one I love to play. It was fun talking to Colin and his passion, enthusiasm, and drive for what he does shines through in the chat, he’s a great guy making great things and I hope you enjoy the show.
