My guest on this episode is Anna Fitzpatrick. Anna has written for The New York Times Magazine, Rookie, Vice, Rolling Stone, The New Yorker, The Hairpin, Hazlitt, The Believer, The Village Voice, Refinery29, the National Post, the Globe and Mail and many more. She is the author of the children's picture book Margot and the Moon Landing, illustrated by Erika Medina, which was published by Annick Press in 2020. Her most recent book is the novel Good Girl, published by Flying Books in 2022. Writing about Good Girl, Buzzfeed said that “Fitzpatrick takes romance tropes and flips them on their head — then slaps them.” Anna and I talk about the mix of luck, hard work, and privilege that defines her writing career, and about how her next book began life as a sequel to Good Girl, before her agent advised her to scrap the idea, and about how strange and often unhelpful it is that certain kinds of writers get lumped together as part of a literary trends. We return to our favourite debate: monogamy vs. polyamory. This time with love triangles as the point of entry. We discuss new release Passages' somewhat bleak version of the shape, and look back at more optimistic portrayals, including Woody Allen's Spanish holiday fantasy Vicky, Cristina, Barcelona and the pre-code shocker Design For Living. Lily also gives the lowdown on (the auteur behind The Room) Tommy Wiseau's new release, Big Shark. Bonjour! For our third episode, we chatted with Anna Fitzpatrick. Anna runs a terrific film conversation series where passionate people get to talk about French films. In this episode, we talked about language learning as a way to open yourself to different things, and how foreign films can enhance the way you learn a language and see the world. Anna Fitzpatrick (@bananafitz) is presented with two versions of the p*ss drinking scene and, having never seen the actual scene, is asked to choose which is real and which has been fabricated.
Anna Fitzpatrick returns for a wide ranging conversation about The Black Hood's questionable moral code, the Lodge family's NYC bona fides, and the hard to define timeline of what's going on. We also rag on Jeff Goldblum for the first little while, so if you don't want to hear that you should skip ahead to 11:00. AND the audio on this one got all screwed up, so sorry. Fun episode though!
Anna Fitzpatrick and Averill Smith sit down with Graham and Kate to evaluate Riverdale's club culture, pass judgement on some Dads, and try to pick the most classic Fredheads album.

More from Jimmy's UK tour. He had a lovely dinner in Cambridge with some folks from Sweatdrop Studios as well as some of their friends. Post dinner, they retired to a local pub where he interviewed Emma Vieceli, Chloe Citrine, Laura Watton, Anna Fitzpatrick and Nana Li among others! At MCM Expo, Jimmy had a chance to chat with a few more creators from Sweatdrop. Sonia Leong joined him for a solo talk and then Sweatdrop couple Faye Yong and Fehed Said discussed much of their work. Awesome stuff from a very talented group of cartoonists!
