This is practical, real-world parenting advice with impact. Whether you're raising kids, working with students, or just trying to build stronger relationships and better emotional health, this episode is for you.

It's natural to want to do a “good job” as a parent. We want to be attentive, be calm when our kids are having a difficult time, teach them all the skills they need to know in life…and it's easy to be really hard on ourselves when we don't do all of those things well. The good news is, our kids don't need parents who never make mistakes -- they actually need us to be imperfect! In this episode, you'll learn: Why it's hard for us to accept that our imperfections make us better parents Four reasons we MUST be imperfect to raise great kids What we should spend our energy on, instead of trying to be good at everything -- JOIN THE “DAILY LIFT” + WEEKLY “GET UNSTUCK” CONVERSATION FOR $1 Summary and examples from this episode Transcript for this episode Join Rachel's Facebook group The Leadership Parenting Academy and Success Lab

A word to the grown-ups: this story told by Jason Buck is not scary, it's very funny – and brilliantly told, but it's does include toilet humour including quite a few sound effects - so, if you want to discourage giggles about ‘p-o-o' this is probably not the story for your children. We also have another fun story this week from Greece called The magical sneeze. In this funny story from Scandanavia, told by Jason Buck, a poor family are asked to donate a barrel of their finest ale to a troll. Would you give a troll a barrel of beer? Well it's just as well this family did, because they were given a magic barrel in return for their kindness, and it's a gift which keeps on giving. But listen on, there's a twist in the tale. I Corinthians 16:13 Be on your guard Psalm 101:3 WEB I will set no vile thing before my eyes. I hate the deeds of faithless men. They will not cling to me I Corinthians 15:33 ESV Do not be deceived: “Bad company ruins good morals.” Proverbs 13:20 Walk with the wise and become wise; associate with fools and get in trouble. 2. Be a THERMOSTAT not a THERMOMETER. I Corinthians 16:13 Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith Kids don't need a MOTTO to say, they need a MODEL to follow. Deuteronomy 6:4-8 Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Joshua 24:15 … But as for me and my family, we will serve the Lord.” Proverbs 14:26 Those who fear the Lord are secure; he will be a refuge for their children. I Corinthians 11:1 And you should imitate me, just as I imitate Christ. The greatest impact of faith won't be the WORDS you speak, but the LIFE you live. 3. Be their PARENT not their FRIEND. 4. Parent with STRENGTH. Ephesians 6:4 Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord. 5. Love is not a FEELING, but a COMMITMENT. The greatest GIFT a parent can give their children is a HEALTHY MARRIAGE. Judges 2:8, 10-11 Joshua son of Nun, the servant of the Lord, died at the age of a hundred and ten. 10 After that whole generation had been gathered to their ancestors, another generation grew up who knew neither the Lord nor what he had done for Israel. Then the Israelites did evil in the eyes of the Lord and served the Baals. Our greatest success in life may not be WHAT we do, but WHO we raise. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/coastalchurch/message

Manlihood ManCast - a Podcast For Men | http://manlihood.com More from Josh Hatcher | http://joshhatcher.com Fatherhood isn't for the faint of heart. So many dads struggle to connect with their kids in a meaningful way, and while I think our generation is striving to do better than the generation before us, there's always room for improvement. Be Present and involved Your family needs you more than they need your paycheck. I'm not saying you shouldn't work to provide, I'm saying - you should make sure that you are present. It's better to have a little less than it is to have a lot of stuff, and no time with them. And don't just be present, but be involved. Change diapers, help with feeding, read to them, tuck them in. As they get older, play with them, teach them, work with them, and make sure that you're not a disconnected dad out in the garage trying to hide from them. Have Fun Your home should be filled with laughter and fun. Even teenagers need to play. Even adult children need to play! So play, laugh, and go on adventures often! Be Strict It almost sounds counter to everything we see in today's culture that being a strict parent with clear rules and consequences is actually a good thing. But i firmly believe it's true. Establish your code of ethics and rules in your home. Establish clear discipline and consequences for breaking that code. Enforce firmly, but with mercy and patience. Be loving Hug and kiss your kids. Praise your kids. Tell them you love them everyday. Make “I Love you” the most commonly spoken words under your roof. Speak more praise than criticism This doesn't mean you can't correct - but it does mean, you need to praise them for the good things they do as often as you can. Even when offering correction - find something to praise them for. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/manlihood/message

First off, Helene chooses to call her step-kids her 'chosen kids' - major distinction. Helene and Jeff Slusky have been featured in a previous podcast #204 about their courtship and marriage - it's hysterical. We brought Helen back to talk about how great kids come from great parents - it's no magic - it's, well, listen to Helene and you'll see, well, you'll actually will hear it, but you can easily envision it by Helene's great story telling.
