Episode 44: Uncanny X-Men #244 Starring Lodro Rinzler

Best Issue Ever Podcast

Hey, it's the 44th episode of Best Issue Ever. This episode's guest is Lodro Rinzler. Like many people I am friend's with, he is a big fan of the X-Men, and has his own podcast - X-Men Horoscopes, which you can find wherever you get podcasts. I guested on an episode and had a ton of fun doing the show. He also wrote a book called You Are Good, You Are Enough which for me was a pretty timely read. Follow his work at his website, lodrorinzler.com. We're chatting about Uncanny X-Men #244, which you might know as the Girls' Night Out issue. This is one of my favorite comics from my favorite era of X-Men and it introduces one of my favorite X-Men, Jubilee! This issue was written by Chris Claremont with art by Marc Silvestri, inks by Dan Green, colors by Glynis Oliver, lettering by Tom Orzechowski, and edited by Bob Harras and Mark Gruenwald. This podcast is recorded in Milwaukee, WI. This episode is edited by Sara Century, but it's usually edited by Kate Warner of the band Church Fire. The theme music is provided by Earth Control Pill, whose work is on Bandcamp. I do not want to deal with ads AT ALL, so if you also don't want to deal with ads, please consider supporting the podcast by rating and reviewing and/or signing up at the Ko-fi @ ko-fi.com/saracentury. There is now a Discord for this podcast, and here's the slightly cumbersome invite link if you are interested: https://discord.gg/ZwbvqJDAGS  Finally, you could support my other ventures, visit my website to sign up for my newsletter for updates. Oh, and I'm a horror writer, so pick up my short story anthology, A Small Light and Other Stories, through Weirdpunk Books, or pretty much wherever else you get books. I wrote a zine about the Scream franchise that you can pick up @ sara-century.square.site.

Welcome true believers to X-Men Horoscopes where each week our host Lodro Rinzler is in conversation with a special guest to discuss the X-Men issue that aligns with a significant month and year from their life and what that issue reveals about their future. Want to listen to this episode ad-free? Visit our Patreon! With us this week is Miles and Anna Stokes! Full disclosure: this lil podcast would not exist if Jay and Miles Xplain the X-Men didn't pave the way for it. We are interrupting X-Men ‘97 Month for a week because Jay and Miles Xplain the X-Men JUST ENDED and this is a good communal way to process that news.   So if you're heartbroken, come on in for this victory lap/debrief and meet Anna, who is a kick-ass human being with stories to share.   We cover the X-Men issue that came out during their wedding anniversary - X-Men 2 (it's Krakoa, baby) - and they play the X-Newlywed Game.   Also in this episode: What's Miles' next big project? the X-Men as Captain Planet That time Sunfire didn't quit A bizarre poker game The likely origin story of Cordecyps Jones How telepathy actually works The mutant MRI machine The definitive Xorn explanation What does this mean for Anna and Miles' future together as a couple? Tune in to find out! For the last 12 years, Miles Stokes has been enthusiastically attempting to make sense of comics' most complicated superhero soap opera as half of the podcast Jay & Miles X-Plain the X-Men. By day, he fixes computers for a non-mutant-related comic book publisher, and by night, he tries and fails to catch up on his gigantic media backlog. Anna Stokes is an enigma wrapped in shadows, or possibly just an endearing dork with an excellent fashion sense. She loves horror, British comedy, the visual arts, and spends most of each week listening to people's life stories while she expertly rips hair out of their bodies in her role as an esthetician. Anna and Miles live in Portland, Oregon in a spooky house full of nerdy things, or possibly a nerdy house full of spooky things, in the middle of a pretty great community of creators and weirdos. What if that voice telling you you're broken or fundamentally flawed is wrong? That's the radical message of today's guest, Buddhist teacher and best-selling author Lodro Rinzler. His new book is called Your Good, You Are Enough. Lodro teaches a powerful idea from Tibetan Buddhism called basic goodness, that beneath all our self-doubt, anger, and anxiety, there's something awake and whole already present in us. It sounds like a self-help slogan, but in fact, it's something we can directly experience ourselves in meditation and in everyday life.In this conversation, Lodro talks about how to trust your own goodness without using this powerful idea as an excuse to avoid growth. And how to see goodness in difficult people without excusing harm.Episode #221: You Are Good, You Are Enough with Lodro RinzlerIf you'd like to practice with others and bring these ideas into your life, join our weekly meditation community with Scott.

In this episode of The Mental Training Lab, I sit down with Buddhist teacher, meditation teacher, and author Lodro Rinzler to explore a concept that has powerful implications for athletes, leaders, and high performers: basic goodness. So many of us operate from the quiet assumption that we're not enough. Not successful enough, disciplined enough, accomplished enough, or mentally tough enough. Lodro's work and new book “You Are Good, You Are Enough” challenge that story at the root, offering the possibility that beneath the striving, self-doubt, anxiety, and the insatiable need to achieve, there is something fundamentally whole and worthy already present.Together, we unpack how meditation functions as mental training, why thoughts don't mean you're “bad” at meditating, and how loving-kindness can help us relate differently to ourselves and others. We also explore the tension between achievement and worth and why so many high performers keep chasing external validation only to discover it doesn't deliver the peace they hoped for.If you've ever felt fueled by the belief that you're not enough, or if you coach athletes and performers who live inside that story, this conversation offers a grounded, practical, and deeply human way to begin relating differently to your own mind.- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Learn more about The Mental Training LabConnect with Pete on Instagram | LinkedIn | WebsiteSubscribe to the podcast on Apple | SpotifyThis show is produced and edited by the team at Palm Tree Pod Co.

Check out Lodro's new book "You Are Good, You Are Enough" to dive further into the themes we discuss, available wherever you get your books. Also listen to X-Men Horoscopes for delightful insights into the lives of X-fans through comics. Part 3: Thoughts and Questions - 01:27:15 | We check in with the voice of the people! We discuss reflections on the series as a whole, lingering questions, predictions and thorns in our sides.  Part 4: X-Men United #1 - 1:41:20 We wrap up our episode with a conversation about the first issue of X-Men United. What does this title bring to the line that's new and different? How does it expand the questions being asked - or ignored - in other titles? And what are the Exceptional kids doing as tutors!? Even Reggie...

In this episode, I talk to Lodro Rinzler about his book, You Are Good, You Are Enough, which explores the Buddhist concept of basic goodness. We discuss how life's experiences can cover our inherent wholeness with "clay"—conditioning and societal messages—leading us to believe we are lacking. The core teaching is that we don't need to add anything to become whole; we need to peel away the layers to reveal the "gold" that's already there. Key takeaways include understanding that the nagging voice of self-doubt doesn't have to drive our actions, and that meditation, or gom, is about becoming familiar with our true nature, not just stress relief. This message is particularly relevant today, offering a powerful counterpoint to a culture that often profits from our sense of inadequacy, and encouraging us to see this inherent goodness not only in ourselves but in others as well.https://amzn.to/4s9kC92https://www.lodrorinzler.com/youaregoodExplore more at eightfoldpath.com: full transcripts, guided meditations, courses, and Noah AI, an AI you can chat with about any episode or teaching.
