Text: Colossians 3:12-14 Teacher: Mandi Paszek Mandi continues our sermon series by expounding upon the principles of patience and forgiveness bound in love.
Unless we learn to give these wounds into the file drawer of heaven, to allow Christ to take these burdens of heart for us, we will be overwhelmed by a shadow of bitterness, anger or disappointment. That is why forgiveness is so very essential to the message of Christ.
Welcome to this sermon on the spiritual disciplines. Unfortunately we had some technical difficulties in the recording, however you are welcome to listen to the beginning of some thoughts on bearing with one another through forgiveness.
Ephesians urges the people of the church to “bear with one another in love” because the thing is, relationships are hard and people can be annoying! Examining the original translation of the text gives us a rich understanding of what it looks like for us - and for God - to truly bear with people in love, even when it's difficult.
God's word doesn't assume that His Church has already been made perfect, but makes clear we are a people in process being shaped and molded by the hands of His Spirit into the image of Jesus. Until then, for unity to be preserved among us, there must be a predisposition we each hold towards one another that requires humility, patience, love, and forgiveness: We must share a willingness to Bear With One Another. Bear With One Another[Ephesians 4:2]"We weren't meant to follow Christ as just One, we need Another"We can sometimes mistake healthy community as meaning we just politely 'put up with each-other'. You know, where you just let the little things slide, you smile through your frustrations and the baggage we bring with us into groups... BUT Jesus models something different for authentic community. He calls us to 'Bear with One Another', a new way to look at what truly loving each other in a group setting can look like even with the messiness of life.Kids: You can find a full online bible story and activity experience at https://www.cedarvalley.ca/kidsonline each week! This sub-series starts with looking at some of the over 50 "One Another" statements in the Bible. In this episode, Nate points out OUR CALL to BEAR with One Another. We must then us OUR ACTIONS to implement Our Mentality of Lowliness/Gentleness, and OUR COMMUNITY in Long-suffering/Bearing with/and Keeping Unity with our fellow believers and others we wish to attract to our community.Quote: “In the beginning the church was a fellowship of men and women centered on the living Christ. Then the church moved to Greece, where it became a philosophy. Then it moved to Rome, where it became an institution (Holy Roman empire). Next, it moved to Europe, where it became a culture. And, finally, it moved to America, where it became an enterprise.” -Halverson
Continuing our series to challenge us to live a worthy life, we look into Galatians 6: 1-5 to find out the importance of gentleness in our attitude towards one another as a community. Let us grow to value each other as Christ sees us!
Authentic relationships bring tensions, but we should make allowance for each other's faults. Key Verses: Colossians 3:12-15

Bear With One Another The eighth talk in our "One Another Series" this week focuses on the challenge to "Bear with one Another". To do this we need to discover the "Power of the Pause". Jesus came to bring unity. Unity between God and mankind, unity in the church and unity ultimately between all people everywhere. One look at the world around us and it's clear this purpose is yet to be fulfilled. But we have great hope. With the power of the gospel and the Holy Spirit working in us and through us we can see progress and trust that when Jesus returns the work will be completed. A key characteristic we need to get us there is to be able to "bear with one another". To be able to respond correctly when we are hurt, let down or frustrated by those around us. To be patient with one another. No one finds it easy. But Jesus bore with us and has given us the wisdom and power to follow his example. Lets find out how!
Sunday PM Sermon
Ephesians 4:1-6
Jesus puts up with us so that we can put up with one another! He bore our sins so that we can receive His Spirit to help us bear with one another. (Romans 15:1-6)
How much can one person take, and still choose to offer kindness? In Genesis Chapter 37, verses 12–36, 17-year-old Joseph is sent by his father to visit his brothers, who were tending the family's flock of sheep in the countryside. Rather than the friendly check-in he expected, Joseph's brothers initially plotted to kill him out of jealousy, but instead sold him into slavery to a group of Ishmaelites heading for Egypt. Among the brothers, only Reuben wished to leave Joseph unharmed, attempting (but failing) to set up a situation where he could rescue his brother and return him to their father. In Egypt, Joseph was falsely accused of a crime, thrown into prison, became an interpreter of dreams for Pharaoh, and eventually attained a seat of power over Egypt. When famine hit the land where his brothers lived, they came to Egypt to buy grain. They didn't know Joseph was not only alive, but was now the governor of Egypt. To their surprise, Joseph wasn't angry at his brothers, but showed them compassion when he saw them again. Instead of taking revenge, he took them in and cared for them. Joseph knew everything that had happened was part of God's plan, and what his brothers intended for harm, God intended for good. Ephesians 4:2 says, “Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love.” The story of Joseph teaches us that humility, patience, gentleness, and love are not just qualities to be saved up for those who deserve it; God asks us to approach others with love even if they have offended or caused us harm. Let's pray. Lord, sometimes the people in our lives are disappointing, frustrating, or downright hurtful. Help us to love those who fall short and need our forgiveness the most, and to bear with each other with patience, and with grace. Amen.
Paul moves from the first three doctrinal focused chapters to the application focus by calling believers to live out our calling in relationships in the church. Because of the redeeming work of Christ in our lives, the church should be eager to maintain unity produced by the Spirt and one component of that unity is a willingness to bear with one another. Ephesians 4:1-3
