The news that Iowa has a new offensive coordinator went official on Wednesday. Tom Kakert and Matt Randazzo discuss the continued reaction to the hiring of Tim Lester. Why has it been mixed from Iowa fans and what should Hawkeye followers look to hear from the new coordinator and Kirk Ferentz when they meet with the media next week? What are two important things that Lester needs to accomplish this spring should Iowa hit the portal for a quarterback this spring? Then we discuss the vacant wide receiver coaching position and if there is a frontrunner for that job. After that we turn our attention to the Iowa basketball team. They had a shot to pull off a come from behind win at Indiana and let it get away late. Why is Iowa struggling to close out tight games? What needs to change on that front and why has Ben Krikke been struggling of late? We also dive into Iowa's resume this year and project their record moving forward. What would it take to get to the NCAA Tournament this season?
Locked On Hoosiers - Daily Podcast On Indiana Hoosiers Football & Basketball
On today's episode of Locked On Hoosiers, Jacob Goins previews the matchup as the Indiana Hoosiers and Head Coach Mike Woodson host the Iowa Hawkeyes inside of Assembly Hall. Concerns remain about Kel'el Ware's health, and whether he plays in this game has a huge impact on the outcome. Indiana doesn't gain much from a win over the 12-8 Hawkeyes, but a loss is brutal for the resume. Then, we go into keys to the game for the Indiana Hoosiers to try and pull out a win. The goal defensively is to stop Ben Krikke down low, who averages nearly 16 points a game for Iowa. Indiana must crash the glass and not get caught ball watching, while also pushing the pace offensively. Can someone like Mackenzie Mgbako or Trey Galloway finally hit a shot from three-point land? Finally, a look at the latest Bracketology from ESPN and Joe Lunardi, as numerous opponents for the Hoosiers find themselves in or on the bubble. There's no doubt this team has its opportunities to get big wins, the question is can they do it? We had to squeeze one more podcast in before the holidays. There was a good reason because Brock Harding had his first career double-double for the Hawkeyes, so Matt Randazzo needed to take a victory lap. We talks about Harding's big night, but also Ben Krikke and Payton Sandfort having a double-double and Tony Perkins catching fire. But, this leads to a larger discussion of why Iowa fans are not coming out to watch this basketball team? What, if anything, can be done to get more fans to come out to games? Then we wrap up signing day coverage with a look at the recruiting class just inked by the Hawkeyes. How do they rank nationally and what were some of the thoughts about it shared by Kirk Ferentz and Tyler Barnes. What has Barnes been focused on? Also retaining six Iowa players for next season. We discuss the chances of that happening. Finally we wrap up picking the Big Ten bowl games this year, including the Iowa/Tennessee game.
A special edition of the Hawkeye Report Podcast as we roll out our huge hoops preview week series. We are joined by Iowa men's basketball assistant coach Matt Gatens. We talk to Gatens about the trip overseas this summer and how it helped in the development of this year's team and if there were any players who have surprised him in their development. Then we go down the roster and discuss Ben Krikke, Josh Dix, Payton and Pryce Sandfort, Ladji Dembele and his improvement, and Brock Harding and Owen Freeman. We also talk about how this team doesn't have star, but it has a lot of guys who on any given night could be their leading scorer. Also how the team is motivated by some of the slights from the national media heading into the season.
In this episode Patrick and Payton are joined by teammate Ben Krikke, the forward who transferred from Valparaiso this year. They talk about Ben growing up and playing basketball in Canada, His time playing for Valparaiso, the decision process to come to Iowa and what he loves about this year's Iowa basketball team. Thank you for watching and be sure to subscribe to be notified for more episodes!
