Reframing our Stories: The Podcast

Play Episode Listen Later Oct 5, 2022 53:23

As a woman who experienced childhood sexual abuse, Tenishia Lester knew what it was like to feel silenced, not trust herself, and experience a lack of self-worth. Over the course of time Tenishia knew there was more that life had to offer, so she started to fight for herself and her worth. Through a Facebook survey and a church program, that gave her the fuel to change her narrative. Through rewriting her story by writing her own story, she discovered her purpose to help other women discover their worth too.  Tenishia B. Lester is a Certified International Master Life/Business Coach, Certified International Christian Coach,  Certified Pastoral Counselor, Author, and Speaker. Tenishia B. Lester Enterprises, LLC enables Tenishia to coach entrepreneurial minded women who are ready to overcome self-defeating mindsets and behaviors to become more self-aware to live tenacious, bold lives. Raised in New Jersey, Tenishia currently resides in Georgia. She is the proud mother of one son (another preceded her in death) and a grandson. As a result of experiencing years of childhood sexual abuse, not being secure in her identity or knowing her life's purpose, imposter syndrome, low-self-esteem and other issues, Tenishia made up her mind to change the trajectory of her life. Tenishia is an advocate for counseling and healing ministries as it has helped her during the lowest moments of her life. Additionally, Tenishia had the assistance of a Life Coach to help her navigate life circumstances; therefore, knows the value of life coaching firsthand. Her book Arrested Development: A Journey to Discovering Identity and Purpose was penned and birthed during her healing process. Tenishia's heart behind her book is to provide a resource that gives insight and hope to those who are or have experienced childhood trauma, life challenges and/or lack of identity and purpose. Tenishia realized that her struggles were not for her during her healing process, but for the uplifting of others. With a heart to lead and serve, Tenishia finds joy in enlightening, empowering, encouraging and teaching others how to change their story. Tenishia is passionate and committed to seeing others win. Her compassionate caring ways and listening ear positions Tenishia as one who is sought out by many to assist them by providing wisdom and guidance in life. Her creativity has afforded women with businesses to create products and services and enhance revenue.  Tenishia is proof of what freedom looks like and that you too can overcome adversity. Her motto is "Healing....it's a whole journey, not a destination" – one that she is committed to going on with others. https://www.tenishiablester.com/

Sheppard Mullin's Restructure THIS! podcast explores the latest trends and controversies in chapter 11 bankruptcy, commercial insolvency and distressed investing. This week, Susan E. Lester, Global ESG Senior Counsel on the Marketing/IP legal team at McDonald's Corporation, joins us to discuss ESG – environmental, social and governance – in the post-pandemic economy, including the factors driving companies to embrace ESG and sustainability and the legal risk associated with ESG messaging.   Susan is also a mother of two and, as such, became a vocal advocate for working parents, particularly mothers, whose struggles came into clear focus during the pandemic. She graciously agreed to share her experience on this critical topic as well.   What We Discussed in This Episode:   As McDonald's' Global ESG Senior Counsel, what is your role? Why do you think ESG topics have gained such immense traction in the past two years? What are the legal risks that companies face in ESG messaging? DEI, or diversity, equity and inclusion, is a part of the “S” in ESG. How has the pandemic impacted the inclusion of women in the workforce? What can corporations do to support working parents, specifically working moms?   About Susan E. Lester   Susan E. Lester graduated magna cum laude of the University of Illinois College of Law in 2012.   Prior to joining McDonald's' Corporation, Susan worked at Kirkland & Ellis LLP in the IP Litigation group. She was with McDonald's Corporation for nearly seven years when she transitioned to her current role as Global ESG Counsel with their Marketing/IP team.  Susan coordinates legal support for business teams carrying out or reporting McDonald's' various ESG initiatives.   Thank you for listening! A realtor, an escrow officer and a marketing rep walk into a recording studio - anything could happen! We welcome escrow officer, Teresa Rogers to Pinnacle Title! She has worked with several of our team members before and we are thrilled to come full circle with her. Teresa connected me with long-time realtor/broker Lester Cox and insisted that I invite him to chat - he did not disappoint!  Lester is one of the few professionals who can claim the realtor role as their one and only profession. Over time, that gives him experience and know-how when it comes to navigating the ups and downs of the real estate market.  If you want to find out specifically why I love the podcasting platform (less important) and what Lester suggests agents do to succeed (much more important), then tune in. Lester is growing a select team and still taking on a few more agents to coach.  Mentors are vital in any field and real estate is no exception. We learn which book Lester recommends and find out who was/is his mentor. Teresa shares how she made her way into the Title industry and we learn what makes her stand out. I note that she is a good listener and doesn't seem to be formulating her next response when Lester is talking.  That takes discipline! Last but not least, we also discuss what's reasonable to expect this month.  Teresa Rogers - (480)885-0644, Teresa.rogers@pinnacletitleaz.com Lester Cox - (602)694-4000 Sandra Ovlinger - (480)392-7301  Text me if you have a topic that you would like to hear about on this podcast or if you have  a suggestion about who you would like me to have on Real Estate Rumble.

Children and horror are often thought to be an incompatible meeting of audience and genre, beset by concerns that children will be corrupted or harmed through exposure to horror media. Nowhere is this tension more clear than in horror films for adults, where the demonic child villain is one of the genre's most enduring tropes. However, horror for children is a unique category of contemporary Hollywood cinema in which children are addressed as an audience with specific needs, fears and desires, and where child characters are represented as sympathetic protagonists whose encounters with the horrific lead to cathartic, subversive and productive outcomes. Horror Films for Children: Fear and Pleasure in American Cinema (Bloomsbury, 2021) examines the history, aesthetics and generic characteristics of children's horror films, and identifies the 'horrific child' as one of the defining features of the genre, where it is as much a staple as it is in adult horror but with vastly different representational, interpretative and affective possibilities. Through analysis of case studies including blockbuster hits (Gremlins), cult favourites (The Monster Squad) and indie darlings (Coraline), Catherine Lester asks, what happens to the horror genre, and the horrific children it represents, when children are the target audience? Through analysis of case studies including blockbuster hits (Gremlins), cult favourites (The Monster Squad) and indie darlings (Coraline), Catherine Lester asks, what happens to the horror genre, and the horrific children it represents, when children are the target audience? Summary Robert Gates (Website; Website) joins Andrew (Twitter; LinkedIn) to reflect on the 75th Anniversary of the CIA. He served 8 U.S. presidents.  What You'll Learn Intelligence His reflections on the CIA at 75 How the CIA's story intersected with his own   His take on the organization's strengths and weaknesses  The complex intl. environment the CIA must now help America navigate Reflections Twists of fate Identity and institutions  And much, much more… Episode Notes Robert M. Gates is the first career officer in the CIA's history to rise from entry level employee to Director. He spent 27 years at CIA, nine of those at the NSC. More recently, he was the first Secretary of Defense to be asked to remain in office by a newly elected president. In all, he served 8 presidents.  Wouldn't you love to know his take on the CIA at 75? Well, we've made that happen for you! He was born in Wichita, Kansas, served in the U.S.A.F. and he received his undergraduate education at William & Mary, his masters from Indiana University, and his doctorate from Georgetown University. He was formerly the President of Texas A&M University and the current Chancellor of William & Mary.  And… The academic institutions Dr. Gates has been associated with all have quite different capacities of football stadium: Georgetown University's Cooper Field can hold 3,750; William & Mary's Zable Stadium can hold 12,259; Indiana University's Memorial Stadium can hold 52,626; and Texas A&M's Kyle Stadium can hold a whopping 102,733. What could we infer about Dr. Gates, college sports, or the United States from this information? Well, that would be thinking like an intelligence analyst. Quote of the Week "I've led four very big, very different institutions and like all of them I always saw where places where CIA could be better. But I always loved the place, and I always was proud to work there and proud of the people that I knew…they were probably the smartest, most honest people I've ever met and worked with." – Robert Gates. WELCOME BACK!!This is it, Fellow Babies. Welcome to the FINAL network first-run airing of WKRP. This episode, "The Impossible Dream" had been shelved by the network in the spring of 1982. Now, with a breakout hit on their hands, the network decided to play this never-before-seen episode well into the fall season...the season AFTER WKRP had been cancelled. It's Les's birthday. The passing of another year has spurred the News Beacon of the Ohio Valley to strive for more in his career. That, and his mother is in town. Les suddenly starts pulling awards off the wall and announces he's headed to New York to take Dan Rather's news-chair. Jennifer reacts to the birthday and mother-visit news with the same answer: Party Time! She plans a surprise birthday party for Les. For some reason, the guest of honor shows up way early. He's there before any of the other guests! He arrives without his mother and tells Jennifer he hates it for anyone to know about his birthday.Ms. Marlowe could not be having a worse day. Triple vodkas all around!!At the party, Les debuts his on-camera demo tape. It's beyond bad. Les realizes he's made a fool of himself and runs out. Will Les go to New York? Will we meet Les's mother? Will we shudder just a little bit at the overwhelming cringiness of the final three minutes? Spoilers!! The answers would be: no, yes and yes. Let's join Lester in tilting at some windmills during this FINAL WKRP episode!! Moo-goo, anyone??WATCH ALONG DETAILS...[Want to watch along with us? It's a blast!! We highly recommend the 'Shout Factory' boxed DVD set of the entire WKRP series. For reasons you'll have to listen to in the "Prolog" episode, all streaming versions of the original "WKRP in Cincinnati" have had the original music cues removed. Generic music beds and stings were used in place of the original music for the syndicated version of the series. 'Shout Factory' has been able to restore an estimated 85% of all WKRP music cues to the original "as-aired" content for their DVD release. They've also restored scenes that had been cut to shorten episodes for syndication. The original eps ran 25 minutes. The syndication eps were shortened to 22 minutes. Over 88 episodes that's more than four hours of lost content, including the performance by "Detective" at the end of "Hoodlum Rock." Get the COMPLETE series...get the Shout Factory DVDs. The Shout Factory complete series box has a release date of 2014. All individual seasons of Shout Factory disks were released starting in 2015.]The WKRP-Cast is a weekly re-watch podcast spending time with the original "WKRP in Cincinnati" which aired from 1978-82. New episodes every Tuesday. Subscribe wherever you get your podcasts. Hey Fellow Babies!! We talked to Gary Sandy. Don't miss our exclusive interview with Andy Travis himself, dropping on Sept. 27th, 2022.

“Have you had enough?” It was just four words, but it was a turning point question in Kelly Lester's life. For 15 years, Kelly had been running from the Lord, desperate to fill the hurting places in her heart with men, drugs, and every other kind of coping mechanism. But after nearly losing her life in a violent domestic fight, Kelly came to a place of surrender to the question God was asking of her. But God, do you know the things I've done? “Yes, Kelly, but if you follow me, I will make beauty from ashes.”   Kelly's story is one that covers so many difficult and painful topics in our world today. Child molestation, raped as a teen, several abortions, drug dealing, eating disorders, homosexuality, pornography, prostitution, and even working in the clinic where she had her first abortion. But beauty triumphs from the ashes, and Kelly is a testament to how God can clean all the dirty parts of a painful life story and make it brand new.   Now a wife and mother of six children, Kelly loves to share her story to give hope to the most desperate situations proving that God can save anybody. She is currently a client advocate for LoveLine Ministries, Director of Outreach for And Then There Were None and Pro-Love Ministries, and a board member for Village Ansanm: Living Stones Ministries.   For More Information Please Visit: https://proloveministries.org   LISTEN NOW AT: Apple: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-blacksmith-chronicles-podcast/id1485445641   Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/4OmhF96FBZ7wz6umnfiMnT   Destiny Image:  https://destinyimagepodcastnetwork.squarespace.com/#/the-blacksmith-chronicles/   Amazon Music: https://music.amazon.com/podcasts/84241b46-96c3-4aed-a483-a003fd5ea74c/the-blacksmith-chronicles-podcast   Ryan Johnson — www.ryanjohnson.us RJM YouTube Channel — https://bit.ly/34Vxbgl Ryan Johnson Ministries Facebook — https://www.facebook.com/officialryanjohnsonministries The Blacksmith Chronicles Podcast Facebook — https://www.facebook.com/RJMinistries Twitter — https://twitter.com/ryanbjohnson278 Instagram — ryanjohnsonministries EMAIL — info@ryanjohnson.us TikTok — @officialrjm
