“He's been with us for 13 years. He's the new guy.” When host Blake Reed Evans heard those words on a visit to Three-13 Salon in Marietta, Georgia, he knew we had to talk about this business' staying power on the show.  Our guest Lester Crowell is a managing partner at Three-13, a departmentalized salon and spa company that's been running for 52 years. What's their secret? The formula combines lots of structure, weekly service provider education, and schedule flexibility when it comes to guests.  Three-13 also gives back to the community. Lester is a two-time heart transplant recipient, and  fifteen years ago Lester and Three-13 launched Angels of Life, a hair and fashion show benefiting the Georgia Transplant Foundation. Through the show and employee bake sales, Three-13 has raised over $1 million to help transplant recipients.  Learn more at  three-13.com . Hear the second edition of a new segment titled “40 Indiana guitar pioneers that every Hoosier should know.” Over the next year, we'll be sharing the music and history of Indiana guitarists who made notable contributions to music. Some of these musicians are world-famous; some you may not have heard of. This is not a ranked list, and it won't be presented in any particular order. On this edition, learn about the Gary, Indiana guitarist Donald Kinsey, who played with artists including Bob Marley, Albert King and Peter Tosh. Donald Kinsey was born May 12, 1953, in Gary. He was one of three sons of Lester “Big Daddy” Kinsey, a respected Chicago blues guitarist, singer, and harmonica player who migrated from Mississippi to Gary in the mid-20th century. Music was part of Donald's life from an early age. He began playing guitar at five years old, learning chords from his father and performing in church and at local gigs. By his early teens, he had earned the nickname “B.B. King Jr.” In 1972, Donald's professional career took a major leap when he was recruited to play with Albert King, one of the most influential blues guitarists of all time. Kinsey toured extensively with King, appearing at major festivals including Wattstax and the Montreux Jazz Festival. He also recorded several albums with King, including I Wanna Get Funky and Blues at Sunrise. This was a formative period that helped Kinsey refine his technique and stage presence while reaching audiences beyond the Midwest club circuit. In the mid-1970s, Kinsey left the Albert King band to join the psychedelic rock group White Lightnin'. The band's self-titled debut album was released by Island Records in 1975. Kinsey's connection to Island Records would prove significant. The label was co-founded in Jamaica by Chris Blackwell in 1959, and Blackwell introduced Kinsey to a rising young star on the label: Bob Marley. Kinsey's career soon took an unexpected turn toward reggae. From 1975 to 1976 he toured with Bob Marley and the Wailers, appearing on Marley's classic 1976 album Rastaman Vibration and numerous live recordings. Kinsey also worked extensively with Peter Tosh, contributing to several landmark albums including Legalize It, Equal Rights, Bush Doctor, and Mama Africa. He also recorded with Burning Spear, playing guitar on the albums Dry & Heavy and Marcus' Children. Kinsey was with Marley during one of the most harrowing moments in reggae history—the attempted assassination of Marley in Kingston in December 1976, when gunmen opened fire at Marley's home. After Marley's death in 1981, Kinsey recorded a tribute titled “Song for Bob.” In 1984, Kinsey reunited with his brothers Ralph and Kenneth and their father Lester to form The Kinsey Report, a band blending electric blues, rock, and roots music. The group recorded a series of albums beginning with Edge of the City in 1987 and became known for its powerful live performances, earning critical acclaim on the blues circuit and touring across the United States and internationally. Kinsey remained active into the 2020s, performing with both the Kinsey Report and the Wailers band. Donald Kinsey died February 6, 2024, in Merrillville at age 70, just weeks after the death of his older brother Ralph.

Visuals: https://getbehindthebillboard.com/episode-104-gavin-lesterPodcast #104 features the funny and super talented Gavin Lester, partner and CCO at Zambezi advertising.Gavin is the fourth in our series of America specials and brought not just great stories, but as the episode progressed, we realised he and Dan had been to school together which was hilarious. What's more, he and Hugh knew each other from BBH days in London when Gavin and Ant (his partner at the time) were running through walls with Jonathan Glazer for Levi's.The bulk of our chat was around Liquid I.V. and the Times Square takeover - one of the most audacious stunts ever attempted in this iconic space. Every digital billboard was synced to displayed an ‘error' message to mimic a dehydration ‘glitch'. And then at exactly 4:00 p.m.—rebranded as ‘I.V. O'Clock' —the screens refreshed to a vibrant brand display while 50 Kiwibot robots distributed samples to the crowd. We also discussed the Traeger Wood Fired Grills campaign, which turned a billboard into a ‘Grillboard', (vegetarians may want to skip this bit) Each day, an animal disappeared from the farm below the billboard and showed up in all its delicious glory on the ‘Grillboard.' Amplified on social media and with tonnes of pr, this single Grillboard pulled nearly every marketing lever and won a shit ton of awards. We talked about Gavin's art too, which is f***ing cool. Highly conceptual, witty, provocative - much like the man himself - we hope one day to own ‘A Lester'. For now we managed a selfie with the artist, adman and lovable chap. Thanks so much Gav for coming on, it was a blast. In this episode of the Every Church Flourishing Podcast by the Great Commission Association of California, hosts Pastor Christopher Cole and Dr. Chase Thompson interview the senior directors of the GCA, including Dr. Michael Stewart, Ms. Lannette Lozano and Dr. Se J. Won about topics ranging from prayer to mission fields, to prayer and great pastoral resources. Chase and Chris also taste test Lester's Fixins Ranch Dressing Soda and barely survive the experience.  In terms of what makes a church healthy and flourishing, there's no good answer to that question that doesn't begin with what Jesus said in John 15 about abiding in Him. - Chris Cole.  "I've been to churches where there is an inauthentic, almost Stepford Wives too bright, too shiny kind of vibe where people greet you like you're their long-lost brother that they haven't seen in years…I would much prefer, rather than bright hot, gleaming and polished smiles, I would much prefer something more genuine, warm real and authentic. The way to make that happen is not a program, but to preach the Gospels, preach the epistles, and cultivate a people who value biblical humility, biblical serving, biblical gentleness and biblical warmth.  There's no program or strategy that replaces the kind of outflow of the Fruit of the Spirit that should come from an authentic church with real greeters - that is massively important to reach your community. It may not grow you into a megachurch, but it will grow you into a place where people will come and feel welcomed and feel real warmth. "  "People don't want to be sold on Jesus. That's not the same as saying we don't want to invite them to a real-world encounter with the Good News of Jesus Christ and the hope that we have…When we center the gospel into the middle of authentic relationships, it should overflow into how we greet guests, do outreaches, and how we teach people to grow up into disciples of Jesus." Chris Cole Resources mentioned: Thom Rainer's Becoming a Welcoming Church.  Daniel Henderson's Old Paths, New Power: Awakening Your Church through Prayer and the Ministry of the Word. "There is a great need for spiritual renewal and awakening…for us to see something that can't be explained by numbers or logic, for us to see God move in such a way that we can only say that was God. If I'm not right with God, then what we do, doesn't really matter." Dr. Se J. Won.    Waking the Dead - John Eldredge (Dr. Stewart)  "Who we are matters more than what we do. Laugh Tracks Legends of Comedy with Randy and Steve

Can you tell a good joke? Sure! How about can you make a puppet tell a good joke? Yes, indeed. OK, so can you tell a good joke and make the puppet banter with you -- all without moving your lips? And that's what separates Willie Tyler (and his dummy Lester) from the rest of us! A ventriloquist since his school days, Willie Tyler brings top notch skills to his act which he has been performing since the 1960s. From early work in Detroit clubs, to recurring spots on Motown tours in the 1960s, to joining the cast of Laugh-In, Willie worked his way to becoming the most successful African-American ventriloquist act in history. A frequent opener for top Vegas headliners, as well as a reliable guest on tv variety and game shows, Willie also managed to branch out into guest roles on tv and he was the first act to take the stage when David Letterman held his Late Night "Ventriloquist Week" in the early 2000's. Now in his mid-80s Willie and Lester keep trucking along, recently appearing in Adam Sandler's 2024 Netflix special. Not too bad for a dummy from Detroit! As always, find extra clips below and thanks for sharing our shows. Want more Willie Tyler and Lester? Willie Tyler and Lester weren't a musical act, but that didn't stop them from appearing on Dick Clark's American Bandstand back in 1976. https://youtu.be/L0rnH99cNVA?si=Cfo_lVgZ-f3E4_Px When Willie and Lester were added to the Laugh-In cast in 1972 it introduced the duo to a whole new audience. https://fb.watch/Fb6NonKmKn/ When David Letterman held a "Ventriloquist Week" on his late night show back in 2006 the first act to appear was Willie and Lester -- and, as usual, they killed. https://youtu.be/6Q1JkAa5ksc?si=KeyaLwQxzJ4MhoHi

Michael T. Lester, a U.S. Naval Academy graduate and former Marine Corps combat pilot who served in Asia and the Middle East, initially believed deeply in American ideals. Over time, he experienced growing disillusionment as U.S. actions abroad often contradicted official narratives and failed to align with stated goals of promoting democracy and freedom. His book provides a non-partisan analysis, arguing that repeated harmful outcomes across administrations are systemic features driven by incentives, not mere mistakes. It outlines an imperial playbook involving regime change, sanctions, proxy wars, and economic control, while linking foreign policy to domestic narrative management that manufactures consent. Lester applies this framework to current events like Ukraine, Gaza, and Venezuela, noting increasing global skepticism toward U.S. explanations. The provocative title refers to outcomes; from a global viewpoint, the U.S. often appears as the antagonist, emphasizing that denial hinders self-correction. Motivated by the view that silence enables complicity, Lester wrote this book to encourage honest reckoning in a multipolar world. All we need is one special person in our life to change our destiny. When Irina mentioned that her grandmother had taught her to sew, I knew there was something very telling about her maternal role models in her life.  Irina introduces us to her mother, Etya and Grandmother Beyla, who was a seamstress. Unfortunately, Etya's father died when she was a young teen in Russia.Etya was born and lived in Russia till the age of 25. She was one of three children, came from a poor family at a time when it was difficult to be successful in Russia. Etya was the kind of child that "always wanted more than what was available," says my guest about her mom.My guest, Irina was born in Russia  and came to America as a Jewish refugee when 2 1/12 years old.  What is it like to grow up with a mother who always thought of herself first?  "She told me I  that I was worthless and stupid all the time" says Lester of her mother.  "I was always in her way and she was always exhausted by me." Irina says she developed survival skills at a very young age.It wasn't until Beyla, Irina's grandmother, insisted on taking her granddaughter to her place of work as a seamstress or to her home, "where she felt safe, loved and cared for and allowed to be a kid," continues Lester. This is when and how Irina's life started to turn around.  I know that there are many children that never get this lifeline through out their life. Irina got lucky but there certainly are many scars that she wears with frustration, hurt  and humility.Previously divorced and a single mom, Irina struggled to care for her young daughter, so she's familiar with what her mother experienced, but it doesn't mean that you have the right to mistreat and/or abuse your child because you are a narcissist. "The local Yarn Store",  in  large part, is due to the influence her grandmother had on my guest's life. Beyla introduced  Irina  to embroidering and hand stitching and so much more.  Irina says, "my grandmother taught me to appreciate the beauty and the creative process and the functionality of the basics of clothing."  Luckily, Irina inherited her grandmother's sewing machine and is now an avid knitter.Hear the full story when you listen to this episode of SHLTMM. https://thelocalyarnstore.com/https://www.facebook.com/The-Local-Yarn-Store-324924261265048     "Should Have Listened To My Mother" is an ongoing conversation about mothers/female role models and the roles they play in our lives. In this episode, Adam sits down with his friend Lester to talk about finances, wise choices, and the systems that help you win with money at any age. They start with Lester's personal story—how losing his dad young exposed the harsh realities families face when finances aren't protected—and why that experience sparked a passion for financial education. From there, they break down the difference between having money goals and actually building a repeatable plan that turns goals into real progress. They get practical: high-yield savings, emergency funds, “forced savings,” paying off debt with the snowball method, and how much you'd need to save in your 20s, 30s, 40s, and beyond to build a strong retirement foundation. Adam and Lester also talk about common traps—credit cards, lifestyle spending, “get rich quick” hype—and why a steady system often beats a flashy strategy. If you want to reset your financial story, build long-term security, and live with freedom and generosity, this conversation is a solid place to start.--Connect with:Adam Mesa https://www.instagram.com/amesa/Lester Baron https://www.instagram.com/globalmoneymaster/--Don't forget to stay connected with us:Youtube https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC4OvpFp9OB9_DgVdVVbXhFgInstagram https://www.instagram.com/beyond.theletter/Tik Tok https://www.tiktok.com/discover/beyond-the-letter--Have a question? In this episode, Jason Pritchard is joined by Lester Erlston, Founder of Flight Kinetics, to explore how advanced aerodynamics could unlock the next phase of electric and hybrid-electric flight. Lester explains how the company's proprietary technology, PropWings, is designed to dramatically improve lift, range, and payload capacity for eVTOL aircraft—without requiring advances in battery chemistry. Instead, the solution focuses on smarter aerodynamics, harvesting previously wasted propeller slipstream energy to enhance performance during critical flight phases such as transition and cruise. During the conversation, Lester outlines Flight Kinetics' journey from initial invention through patent protection and toward a scalable licensing business model. The company positions itself as a future Tier 1 technology licensor, offering an airframe-neutral solution that can be integrated across multiple eVTOL platforms. The discussion dives deep into the technical challenges of designing a high-lift system that is robust, adaptable, and certifiable across diverse aircraft architectures. Lester shares how a phased validation roadmap—progressing from advanced CFD analysis to wind tunnel testing and ultimately flight testing—is being used to reduce risk and deliver the real-world data OEMs require. Looking ahead, the episode explores how improved aerodynamic efficiency can translate directly into safer operations, greater energy margins, longer routes, and stronger economics for operators.

Keith Morrison sits down with Lester Holt and Dateline senior investigative producer Dan Slepian to talk about their episode, “The Ruse.” In August of 2018, Tom Perez Jr. called the Fontana, California, police asking for help finding his father. As police began investigating the case, they started to suspect Tom Jr. was hiding something — possibly involvement in his father's disappearance. Over the course of 17 hours, investigators interrogated Tom and he eventually confessed to his father's murder. But then, in an astonishing turn of events, Tom Perez Sr. turned up alive. Tom Jr. had confessed to a murder he didn't commit.  Lester and Dan talk about the evidence that led police to believe Tom was guilty of a crime that hadn't been committed, and the interrogation techniques that led to his false confession. Later, they play a podcast-exclusive clip from interrogation expert Steve Kleinman. Then, Lester and Dan answer your questions about the episode from social media.  Have a question for Talking Dateline? DM us a video to @DatelineNBC or leave a voicemail at (212) 413-5252.
