Despite a loss over the weekend, the Indiana Hoosiers football team is still projected to make a bowl game at the end of this season. Based on the most recent projection from Action Network, the Hoosiers would meet the Miami Hurricanes in the Gasparilla Bowl in Tampa. On today's episode of Locked on Hoosiers, Jacob Rude (@JacobRude) catches up on a number of topics across the IU athletics landscape including an injury update on DJ Matthews Jr. who could be out for the Nebraska Cornhuskers game after an injury against the Cincinnati Bearcats. We also get tipoff times for the IU men's basketball team against the Kansas Jayhawks and North Carolina Tar Heels. The Hoosiers men's soccer team has had to adjust to the loss of a number of top players from last season. As a result, it's been a rocky season for IU as they've navigated a brutal schedule. The show wraps by looking at the Indiana women's soccer team and their stingy defense this season. While they've had a host of shutouts this season, their offense has been non-existent for the vast majority of the games. Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors! Finding the positives in IU football's loss to Cincinnati

Despite the frustrating loss by the Indiana Hoosiers football team to the Cincinnati Bearcats on Saturday, Tom Allen's side still came away with some positives to build on moving forward. Chief among them is the fight shown by Connor Bazelak and the IU offense and Tiawan Mullen and the Hoosier defense in the second half to come back. On today's episode of Locked on Hoosiers, Jacob Rude (@JacobRude) looks at some of the good things to come out of the loss for IU on Saturday. First, though, is a look at the quotes from Allen at his weekly press conference on Monday as he talked about the team's offensive line woes and slow starts. For all the problems and flaws exposed in Saturday's loss, the Hoosiers' comeback in the second half showcased something the team didn't have last season. As they continue making spirited comebacks this season, it's worth noting how different that mentality is from last year's team. The show wraps by looking at Peyton Hendershot's performance on Monday Night Football and the controversy it caused. 2024 big man Flory Bidunga is also set to visit IU for Hoosier Hysteria as well, a big get for the Hoosiers. IU football falls to Cincinnati after brutal first half

The Indiana Hoosiers football team fell to the Cincinnati Bearcats on Saturday for their first loss of the season. While it wasn't an unexpected loss, the way in which IU lost with Connor Bazelak throwing 66 times and Tom Allen's team unable to run the ball again continued raising red flags on the season. On today's episode of Locked on Hoosiers, Jacob Rude (@JacobRude) recaps the Hoosiers loss to the Bearcats, one which continued exposing flaws. While the loss was expected, the way the defense played under Allen was a concern. When looking at the game's biggest plays, Cincinnati's flourish to end the first half that doubled their lead is perhaps the game's defining sequence. Unforced errors by IU led to the Bearcats pulling away and taking the game out of sight at the half. The show wraps by looking at the best players of the game for IU, including continued excellence from wide receiver Cam Camper. Josh Henderson continued a strong stretch of games in the backfield while Cam Jones remained excellent and vital to the Hoosiers' defense. Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors! Can IU football pull off an upset against the Cincinnati Bearcats?

The Indiana Hoosiers football team will have a drastic step up in competition this weekend when they face the Cincinnati Bearcats. After a string of subpar performances against average-at-best teams, IU will be matched up with a top-25 caliber team. On today's episode of Locked on Hoosiers, Jacob Rude (@JacobRude) previews the Hoosiers' contest with Luke Fickell's Bearcats. A close game last year could give the Hoosiers optimism for this year's showdown, but the two teams are vastly different and it's a true road game for Indiana. Offensively, Cincinnati is no longer led by Desmond Ritter but still have an impressive signal-caller in Ben Bryant under center. Problems with penalties and turnovers throughout the young season could offer a pathway for the Hoosiers to pull off an upset. The show wraps by looking at the defense of the Bearcats and where they rank relative to the other opponents IU has played this season. The Indiana Hoosiers basketball team has been active in the fall recruiting window with trips to the Montverde Academy and Overtime Elite, among other locations. On today's episode of Locked on Hoosiers, Jacob Rude (@JacobRude) is joined by Jason Jordan (@JasonJordanSI), director of recruiting for Sports Illustrated, to catch up on all the prospects the Hoosiers have watched so far this fall. Derik Queen is one of the names most often on the lips of Hoosiers fans as he remains a top target in the class of 2024 because of his potential to reclassify to 2023. Naas Cunningham, one of the top recruits of 2024, received an offer from Indiana last week in a bit of a surprise. Likewise, Tyler Betsey is a sharpshooting wing that is quickly rising up prospect rankings and one that the Hoosiers also offered last week. The show wraps by bouncing around to another handful of standout recruits the Hoosiers have targeted. The Montverde duo of Liam McNeeley and Asa Newell are both top-20 recruits with the former set to visit IU this weekend. What is wrong with the IU football defense?

The Indiana Hoosiers football team has been known for it's defense under head coach Tom Allen. However, despite his return to calling plays on that side of the ball, the Lakers have still struggled on that end of the floor. On today's episode of Locked on Hoosiers, Jacob Rude (@JacobRude) looks at Allen's comments on Monday about his defense's performance against Western Kentucky. Though the Hoosiers were ultimately victorious, red flags continue to be raised about aspects of their performance. Despite being 3-0 on the season, those concerns have led to advanced numbers continuing to look not too fondly on IU. Indiana still ranks near the bottom of the Big Ten and in the lower half of the nation. The show wraps by discussing the news that alcohol will be sold at Assembly Hall for men's and women's basketball games this season. On today's episode of Locked on Hoosiers, Jacob Rude (@JacobRude) reacts to IU's third victory in as many weeks to open the season. While the team is undefeated and made the big plays when they had to, there is still lots of room for improvement. The biggest plays of the game all came in the second half, starting with a momentum-changing interception from Myles Jackson late in the third quarter that kept IU in the game. The big touchdown pass to eventually tie the game from Connor Bazelak to Cam Camper and the blocked field goal in overtime also both were monster plays. The show wraps by looking at the top players of the game, including the aforementioned Bazelak and Camper. IU Hoosiers football vs. Western Kentucky Hilltoppers preview

The Indiana Hoosiers football team has a terrific opportunity to remain unbeaten on the season as they host the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers. What version of the Hoosiers will appear on Saturday, though, and can they seize the opportunity? On today's episode of Locked on Hoosiers, Jacob Rude (@JacobRude) previews the matchup between IU and WKU. The two sides have had many a memorable meeting with high-scoring affairs aplenty and Saturday could be the latest tale in that story. For the Hoosiers to find success against Western Kentucky, the defense will have to do a better job defensively against the passing game than they did last season. Offensively, the team will have to compete against not just a talented secondary, but against the level of complacency and inconsistency that plagued them against Idaho. The show wraps by looking at a handful of players that could prove vital in the Hoosiers' bid to move to 3-0. Shaun Shivers and Connor Bazelak will have big roles in whether the offense can put up points while Tiawan Mullen will anchor a defense looking to not replicate last year's effort. After a scare last week against the Idaho Vandals, the Indiana Hoosiers football team hosts Western Kentucky this week looking to remain undefeated on the season. The Hoosiers are well aware of the threat the Hilltoppers can pose after narrowly escaping last season with a victory. On today's episode of Locked on Hoosiers, Jacob Rude (@JacobRude) previews Western Kentucky, who also enters with a 2-0 record on the season. IU, though, will represent a large jump in level of opponent than WKU has seen this season so far. The Hilltoppers made their name last season offensively with an air raid attack. With a new QB and new offensive coordinators, WKU still has a dynamic offense but not quite as lethal as last season's. Defensively, Western Kentucky leads FBS in turnovers with seven interceptions and three fumble recoveries. However, six of those takeaways, including five of the interceptions, came against a Hawaii team that is potentially the worst in FBS this season. Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors! The Indiana Hoosiers football team waited until the final drive of the night before coming from behind for a memorable, exciting victory to open the season against the Illinois Fighting Illini. New quarterback Connor Bazelak led the decisive drive for the game-winning touchdown as part of an impressive debut performance. On today's episode of Locked on Hoosiers, Jacob Rude (@JacobRude) recaps the season-opening win and the emotional release that came along with it after a dismal 2021 season. Even for how exciting the victory was, IU still left plenty to be desired over the course of the entire game. Still, Bazelak was at the center of two of the game-changing plays of the night, including his long touchdown pass to D.J. Matthews in the first half. The defense also stepped up with a number of key turnovers in the second half as well. The show wraps by looking at the top players of the game on both sides of the ball. On top of Bazelak and Matthews, Cam Camper was a standout on the offense while Cam Jones anchored the defense. Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors! While we've spent days, weeks and months talking about the Indiana Hoosiers football team, there hasn't been nearly as much talk about the Illinois Fighting Illini. Coming off a Week 0 win over Wyoming, the Illini head into Friday having had a warm-up that IU hasn't. On today's episode of Locked on Hoosiers, Jacob Rude (@JacobRude) welcomes in the assistant sports editor of the Daily Illini in Jonathan Alday (@JonathanAlday7) to talk about Illinois. While Friday will be the season-opener for IU, the Illini come in with a 1-0 record after beating the Cowboys. Like the Hoosiers, Illinois came into the season with a QB battle, but one that wasn't quite as much of a coin flip. Behind a strong running game from Chase Brown and a stout defense, Illinois comes into the season with a realistic shot at a bowl game. Three most important players for IU football vs. Illinois

If the Indiana Hoosiers football team is to open the season with a win on Friday against the Illinois Fighting Illini, a number of players are going to need to step up. With that in mind, who are the three most important Hoosiers ahead of the season opener? On today's episode of Locked on Hoosiers, Jacob Rude (@JacobRude) answers that question, beginning with one of the only proven commodities in the receiving core with D.J. Matthews. If he is recovered from his knee injury, he could be exactly what the IU offense needs. On the defensive side of the ball, Cam Jones could be the solution to filling the hole left by Micah McFadden. While a number of other players have been mentioned to directly fill McFadden's vacancy, Jones could be the guy to shoulder the responsibility of the intangibles as a leader this season. The show wraps by looking at the offensive line, which will have plenty of focus on them this season after a putrid 2021 campaign. On today's episode of Locked on Hoosiers, Jacob Rude (@JacobRude) reacts to the first games of the college football season, specifically the three future Hoosier opponents that were in action. The Indiana Hoosiers football team is unquestionably in a rebuilding phase, but what is the most talented position group heading into the 2022 season? Is it part of the loaded secondary or could be one of the most uncertain positions on the offense this year. On today's episode of Locked on Hoosiers, Jacob Rude (@JacobRude) answers a number of "Fill in the Blank" questions, including a look at the most talented position group. While the IU wide receivers have a lot of unproven talent, it's certainly part of the secondary that is the most talented. Should the Hoosiers put things together, rely on those strengths and finish 6-6 this season, that would be the best-case scenario. After a disastrous 2021 season, bouncing back with a bowl game in 2022 would get things back on track for the program. The show wraps by looking at the Pro Football Focus preseason All-Big Ten team, which includes Tiawan Mullen on the First Team. The Indiana Hoosiers basketball team missed out on another 2023 recruit in Jamie Kaiser on Wednesday. The sharpshooter picked the Maryland Terrapins over IU on Sunday, making it two prospects in as many weeks to skip over Indiana University. On today's episode of Locked on Hoosiers, Jacob Rude (@JacobRude) reacts to the news of Kaiser staying home with Maryland. While it's an understandable decision for Kaiser to commit to the program he grew up rooting for, is it time to worry about IU's recent recruiting losses? Tom Allen's first media availability since the start of fall camp led to a big update on DJ Matthews. The speedy wide receiver is expected to be ready for Week 1 after his knee injury last season, a big win for the IU football team. The show wraps by looking at the latest way-too-early top 25 from ESPN that features the Hoosiers at No. 15. The Indiana Hoosiers football team released their depth chart of the season to kick off fall camp. Predictably, there are a number of different takeaways from position battles to surprise names appearing. On today's episode of Locked on Hoosiers, Jacob Rude (@JacobRude) reacts to the first depth chart to open the year, starting with a quick glance at the quarterback battle. There are also some interesting notes from the running back position, an interesting name in Dasan McCullough on the defensive side of the ball and a lot of returners on the offensive line. The most intriguing position, though, is wide receiver as there are very few answers given by the first depth chart. A number of spots are up for grab and the likes of Donaven McCulley, DJ Matthews Jr. and Javon Swinton will be fighting for those positions. The show wraps by looking over the defense where there is some uncertainty at the front but plenty of known quantities in the secondary. The Indiana Hoosiers basketball team has missed out on top prospect Xavier Booker in the Class of 2023, so what's in store for them next? A trio of targets have emerged and could be the next step for IU and coach Mike Woodson. On today's episode of Locked on Hoosiers, Jacobo Rude (@JacobRude) is joined by the director of basketball recruiting for Sports Illustrated Jason Jordan (@JasonJordanSI) to talk about a number of topics. While Booker is out of the picture for Indiana, a number of targets remain. Each of Jamie Kaiser, Arrinten Page and Deshawn Harris-Smith remain priorities for IU moving forward in the Class of 2023. But as much fun as it is to look at the future, the Hoosiers do have a pair of recruits already committed for the 2023 class. Gabe Cupps is the more well-known prospect of the two and is someone that is only continuing to rise up rankings this summer. The show wraps by also looking at Jakai Newton, the other prospect the Hoosiers have landed in 2023. On today's episode of Locked on Hoosiers, Jacob Rude (@JacobRude) looks back on the best and worst season-opening games in recent memory. Some of the most memorable include THAT Penn State win and a peak #chaosteam victory.
